Dumbest Question Of The Day: Run A Simple Query And Save The Results Into A Text File
Jul 20, 2005
Can someone demonstrate a SIMPLE way to do this that does not require
additional functions or stored procedures to be created? Lets say I
want to execute the following simple query - "select * from clients" -
and save the results to a text file, we will assume c:
esults.txt
I've Executed DBCC CHECKDB in the T-SQL in the Query Analyser, then i got results in the Grid, but i wana to store that Information Immidiatly in the Text file, useing T-SQL Script, please help any one how to write T-SQL.
i know that going into menu-Query- Results to File. i don't want to do like that.
I want to save through writing T-SQL Script
Please help any body know.... Thanks in Advance....
I want to write a small program (maybe just a stored procedure) that will save the results and column names of a simple query to CSV file. This will then be copied onto disk and distributed to user who'll use Excel or a similar package to open the CSV file.
Any suggestions as to the best way to achieve this? I was considering using a view and then BCP but I have problems then when trying to open the CSV file in excel (or other spreadsheet package). Doesn't like the datatypes and so on.
Is there a simple way to do this? And is it possible to save the results in such a way that Excel will choose the right datatypes for the columns. (not convert varchar's like '000122' to numbers.)
I have a query (select * from table1) and I'd like to have the results of this query sent to a text file instead of the results windows when I run it from Query Analyzer.
select *,substring(stafflog,15,11) as test into #t1 from dbo.Customers where stafflog like '%armagh%' go select left(stafflog,4) as Staff,count(left(stafflog,4)) as Total from #t1 where cast(left(test,charindex(' ', test))as smalldatetime) = cast(convert(varchar(8),getdate()-1,1) as datetime) group by left(stafflog,4) go select Title,Address1,Address2,Town,County,Postcode,TelephoneDay,TelephoneWork,TelephoneEvening, MobileTelephoneNo,Contact,Mail,Telephone,Terms,StaffLog from #t1 where cast(left(test,charindex(' ', test))as smalldatetime) = cast(convert(varchar(8),getdate()-1,1) as datetime) go drop table #t1 go
i need this query to be scheduled to run at a certain time every day and the results to be put in a text file.
is there an easy way to do this or what should i be looking at doing to get it to work
I have written a query that I need to save results of. Is there some statement that I can place at the top of my query (like we can do in Oracle through spool command) to specify the directoryfilename to save query results to? Eventually I need to schedule this to run daily via a DTS package.
Please let me know if you've come across this before?
I've got a query that returns the data I need. I want to put the query in a stored procedure such that, when the SP runs I get a pipe delimited text file on disk. I don't really want to mess with SSIS, etc. Is there a Q&D way to do this?
How do I save my query results into new table.... The ORIGINAL COLUMN Of course before parsing--- But the only data I want is in the three no name columns---(NO Column Name),(NO Column Name),(NO Column Name)I don’t want the original column saved back but I think it existing in the final query is blocking my Insert Into---
Can anyone show me how to run a prediction query and save the results to a sql table without using the T-SQL OPENQUERY tip here http://www.sqlserverdatamining.com/DMCommunity/TipsNTricks/3914.aspx? I am looking for an example in vb.net that I can use in a SSIS script task.
I have cubes that hold quite a few calculations and so creating Excel pivot table views from it take a long time. This is even true for Excel 2007.
Now I wonder if it would be possible to write back all the calculation results to a relational table - maybe one that exactly matches the report format - so creating another report would be much faster?
SSRS seems to be a way to go but it does not speed up my Excel case.
I read about write-back in ROLAP and MOLAP but I don't think any of these concepts help me to really speed up my reports.
The closest thing I was able to find so far, which besides seems to do exactly what I want is Microsoft's new PerformancePoint 2007. It's just it seems overkill for my projects and the price is at $20K.
Hi I am using bcp command to export data from a table to a text file. I want to be able to save this output from bcp into log.txt how can I do that.

I believe saving prediction query results to relational tables is possible (the BI studio does it!). I am not clear on how to do this w/o the BI studio, which means if I write a DMX query and want to store its output to a relational table, how do I do it?
you see these are the requirements.. 1. there is a text file named "Loan" 2. i must create a program using ASP.net wherein the text file can be imported in the system. 3. after importing, i must save the whole text file in a database.
my questions are:
1. what code can i do to open up a text file? 2. how can i save the text file into a database? 3. is there any way that i could import the file and view its content in my application? 4. after viewing, how can i save the text file as a text file in a database?
I have created a DTS package which transfers data from a SQL 2000server table to a text file. Hi - I am trying to add paging to my stored procedure. The stored procedure successfully executes a full-text search. Unfortunately, the paging routine below the full-text search operates on the articles table after the search has been conducted. This means that it utilizes the row numbers from the entire table rather than the row numbers from the result set. I somehow need to the paging routine starting at "WITH tempArticles AS" to operate on the search results rather than the articles table. I am too new to SQL and can't figure out how to populate a temporary table storing text search results to use in this paging routine. Can anyone help me with this? Thanks! Peter dbo.Search_Articles @searchText varchar(150), @PageSize int, @PageNumber int AS Declare @RowStart int Declare @RowEnd int if @PageNumber > 0 Begin SET @PageNumber = @PageNumber -1; SET @RowStart = @PageSize * @PageNumber + 1; SET @RowEnd = @RowStart + @PageSize - 1 ; CREATE TABLE #results (ArticleID int) INSERT INTO #results SELECT ArticleID FROM articles WHERE CONTAINS(Description, @searchText) OR CONTAINS(Title, @searchText) UNION SELECT ArticleID FROM article_pages WHERE CONTAINS(Text, @searchText) /*this returns all matching records from the text search*/ SELECT * FROM articles, #results WHERE #results.ArticleID=articles.ArticleID; WITH tempArticles AS ( SELECT Title, PostDate, UserID, City, Country, Tags, StoryID, Approved, ROW_NUMBER() OVER (order by PostDate) as RowNumber FROM articles WHERE Approved = 1) SELECT * FROM tempArticles WHERE RowNumber >= @RowStart and RowNumber <= @RowEnd; END
In TSQL, is there a way to 'Set' the query option results in text as the head of my sql statement?
kind of tired of hit contol+t to get the text result.
also, when I print '@dateStart--' + cast(@dateStart as varchar(30)) I don't get seconds and I even need mis. Is there a simple way instead of a combination of datepart() to get ss, mis?
I have written this sample query to search a full-text indexed table and return the results. If the word occurs more than once I want it to return as a new record and the results show a short summary of the location. I was using 'like', but the full table scans were really slowing it down. Can performance be improved for the following (The results returned by my query are accurate)
Im running a query using isql from the command line and outputting the results to a file. Ideally I'd like to have the file in csv format so that it can be used by a client to import the results into their system.
I can run a query and output the results to a file but get i dont get the csv format I require. I can separate the columns using /s parameter but I also additional space within the column fields.
I know it is possible to create the csv format using the SQL query tool and ISQL_w but I was wondering if there was some parameter that I can call that will format the output like the format options in ISQL_w allows me to do.
Is there a way in SQL Server 2000 to output your query results to a file (example comma-delimited) in the SQL CODE ITSELF? I know you can check the option under Tools->Options->Results but I want to have it do it in the SQL code. Thanks Eric
After running a query (from the Query Builder) in SQL Server 2008 sometimes I can right-click on the results pane and "Save results as CSV file", other times it's not an option. After running a query for 24 hours (several million record results) I can't seem to do anything with the results. I have my settings:
Options | Query results | SQL Server | Default Destination for Results
set to "Results to File" and a path entered, but it doesn't work. Is there wording I can add to the end of my SQL statement such as "TO FILE xxx.csv" or something?
