I tried to follow the widely talked about method to dynamically populate the connection string property of my flatfileconnection manager from a variable. I keep getting the following non-fatal error.

Error at Package [Connection manager "FFCM"]: The file name ""C:ProjectsSSISHLoadTOutputOut.csv"" specified in the connection was not valid.
Error at Package: The result of the expression "@[User::CsvFullFileName]" on property "ConnectionString" cannot be written to the property. The expression was evaluated, but cannot be set on the property.
Here is what I am trying to do.
I have a foreach loop that iterates through a list of xml config files and reads the config information including the destination csv file name and does a data transformation.
So I created a flatfile connection to a csv file did my data mappings.
Created a package level variable to hold the destination file path
In the Flat file conn. manager's properties -> expression -> set the @[User::CsvFullFileName] (which even evaluates fine)
When I try to run the package I keep getting the above mentioned non-fatal error..I checked the path and it is valid. I even tried
the c:\projects\...notation and the UNC path notation...all seem to give the same error
Anyone experience this before ? any thoughts would be appreciated.
I have a simple package, which reads a flat file source, does some transformation, and outputs to a flat file destination. The package runs as a SQL Agent job, so I have the flat file source and OLEDB connection ticked and configured on the data sources tab.
What I would like to do is get hold of the flat file source connection string property from inside the package at run time, and use it to set the flat file destination connection string using property expressions.
The easy option is to set the destination in the agent job, but I'd like to add a date/time stamp to the destination filename.
Another question regarding the frustrating SSIS stuff. Basically when I used to use a DTS task to import a flat file (comma delimited) into the database it worked fine no problems, however, for some reason the same approach in SSIS means that any string values in the file are automatically delimited with double quotes, even though I am specifying <none> as the delimitation. I have also changed the fields so that the the TextQualified is set to false.
This causes a problem because all of the information stored in the database (done by a stored procedure) contains these stupid quotes.
Is there something I am missing or haven't done correctly to get rid of the quotes
I have packages that must generate log errors dynamically including time of execution and the name of the task.
I make it changing the properties of the connection inserting two expressions.
1.-I alter the File Usage Type to 1 to generate this files. 2.- I alter the connection string as: @[User::myvariable] +"constant_description"+ time description+ +".txt"
The time description is : (DT_STR,40,1252) DAY (GETDATE())+"-"+(DT_STR,40,1252) MONTH( GETDATE())+"-"+(DT_STR,40,1252) YEAR( GETDATE())+" + REPLACE( (DT_STR,10,1252) (DT_DBTIME) GETDATE(),":","_") But it is not the problem
In those packages I have one connector for all the tasks and in execution time it creates one file for each of the tasks.
The problem is the way I insert in the filename the task name.
I have a pre-execute event handler in each task that modifies a string variable( myvariable) appending the task name. When I execute de package it works great but when I only execute a task, the program do not enter in the event and do not put the task’s name.
How can I put that name without using that handler? There is another handler can I use to do it that happens before the system generates the new file name and after pre-execute? Anyone knows another way to do this kind of things?
I am testing SSIS and have created a Flat File Destination. I defined the Flat File Connection as New for the first time and it worked fine. Now, I would like to go back and modify the Flat File Connection in the Flat File Destination Editor, but it allows only to create a New connection rather allowing me to edit the existing one. For testing, I can go back and create a new connection, but if my connection had 50-100 columns then it would be an issue to re-create it from scratch.
I have a situation where a tab limited text file is used to populate a sql server table.
The tab limited text file comes from a third party vendor. There are fixed number of columns we need to export to the sql server table. However the third party may add colums in the text file. Whenenver the text file has an added column (which we dont need to import) the build fails since the flat file connection manager does not create the metadata for it again. The problem goes away where I press the button "Reset Columns" since it builds the metadata then. Since we need to build the tables everyday we cannot automate it using SSIS because the metadata does not change automatically. Is there a way out in SSIS?
I am a relative newbie to SSIS. I have been tasked with writing packages to import data from our clients. We have about 100 clients. Each client has a few different file formats. None of the clients have the same format as each other. We load files from each client each day. Each day the file name changes. I have done all of my current development work with a constant file name in a text file connection manager.
Ultimately we will write a VB application for the computer operator to select the flat file to load and the SSIS package to load it with. I had been planning on accomplishing this thru the SSIS command line interface. Can I specify the flat file to load via a variable that is passed through the command line? Do I need to use a Script Component to take the variable and assign it to the connection manager?
Is there a better way to do this? I have seen glimpses of a VB interface to SSIS. Maybe that is a better way to kick off the packages from a VB app?
I am struck at one point. I am trying to this operation and not able to go further.
1. I have got the dataset to a variable in the control flow.
2. I am looping through the dataset based on a coloumn.
3. Now inside my For each loop i have a dataflow task.
4. In the data flow task i am trying to build a dynamic query using the OLEDB Source and i have selected SQL Command from variable. And the variable build the Query as select * from @othervariable.
Now my question is
Can i send the data of each of the Query resultset to an out put text file using Flat File Connection? If yes pls guide me how? I have tried to create a flat file connection but i am failing how to map the data comming from step 4 dynamically for every query, since every query gives you a different resultset with different coloumns.
Trying to figure out the best method of reading in a number of flat files, all with different number of columns and data types and outputting them to a database.
Here's the problem: They are EBCDIC encoded and some of the columns are packed decimal. I've set up one package that takes the flat file, unpacks the decimal (Using UnpackDecimal component) and then sending the rest through a second component to go from EBCDIC -> ASCII.
What I need is a way to do this for every flat file based on the schema for that flat file. One current solution is to write a script/app to create the .dtsx XML file and then execute that for each flat file. It appears like this may be possible, but I haven't gotten far enough to know for sure. So my questions are this:
1) Is there an easier way to do this (ie somehow feed the schema to the package and use it to dynamically set up the column makers and determine which columns get fed to the unpack decimal component.
2) If there isn't a better way, will dynamically creating the .dtsx XML file based on the necessary input/output columns for each flat file work? If so, what is a good source of information on this (information about how the .dtsx XML file is set up, what needs to be changed/what doesn't, etc).
After performing a join operation on two tables i get the below resultset
pid, fname, typename, pname, pcost
1, cad, bars, product-1, 100
2, har, witte, product-2, 120
3, nes, bars, product-3, 119
Now i need to create files with the obtained resultset like
Column 'fname' is the folder name and 'typename' should be the file in the particular folder.
For example the first record should be inserted into file name 'bars.txt' in the folder 'cad' and third record should be created in file name 'bars.txt' in the folder 'nes'.
I have 3 web identical web apps whose only diff is that they access different SQl Server DB's. I use the SQLDataSource in a number of pages to retrieve data from the db. The apps all use Forms Auth. I would like to be able to see who is the logged on user user and assign the approp connection string to all the SQLDataSources in the app. For example when user UserA logs in they are retrieving data from on db but when UserB logs in they are retrieving data from another db. I am sure this can be done but could use a little guidance. Thanks in advance.

I know i got to use for each loop task ADO.Net schema row set enumerator, with OLEDB connection manager, select table name or view name variable from access mode list, but the problem comes, as table name is dynamic then flat file connection is also dynamic, i am using visual studio 2013...
I need to make my site aware of which server_name it is loading from so it uses a different connection string. However, I'm not sure how to get both in here with some sort of 'if/then' statement to determine which one to use.I've heard it could be done in global.asax with something similar to the code below, but I dont know how to assign a 'name' to a connection string for that type of setup. I have dozens of packages that work as follows (high level... not listing all the steps just those relevant to this question)
- Get list of files in directory
- Join list to list of already imported files
- Those not imported put into an ADO.Net object
- Loop through ADO.Net record (which contains the filename) and import each file.
I just set the connection string of the flat file to be the variable in the loop (expressions.. connection string). Pretty standard stuff. Now I tried to do the same with a file connection (not a flat file) becuase I have a source that is from a mainframe and I had to write a custom source script and its not working. Basically the source script uses
And it opens the same file over and over (not ever changing as the ConnectionString expression changes like it does for flat files) and imports it even though I have verified the loop is correctly looping through all the different files.

After the staging_temp data gets inserted into main table.my probelm is to handle such a file where number of columns are more than the actual table.
If you see the sample rows there are 4 column separated by "¯".but actual I am having only 3 columns in my main table.so how can I get only first 3 column from the satging_temp table.
I have create packages which loads the data from flat file to sql server table, now I want to make my destination table connection dynamic what is format of connection string. I also need to pass user name and password for sql server dynamically in this case, what is the format for the connection string.
Also  in package i used ADO.net  as source for  *.mdb files how i can set the commection to .mdb files dynamically which is used as source in my package.
Problem: ColA (Source) Rounding error to PARTY_NO (Destination) I have a field of text of in a flat file that the flat file connection manager Source picks up correctly €œ70000893€? However when it gets the OLE DB Connection Destination the data has changed to 70000896. That€™s before its even Written to the database. The only clue that something is wrong in the middle is the great Data viewer shows the number as 7.000009E+07 Other clues looking at the data it appears there is a rounding error on only the number that dont end in 00 ColA (Source) PARTY_NO (Destination) 71167300 71167296 70329000 70329000 70410000 70410000 Any ideas people? Hello Experts, I am createing one task (user control) in SSIS. I have property grid in my GUI and 2 buttons (OK & Cancle). PropertyGrid has Properties like SourceConnection, OutputConnection etc....right now I am able to populate Connections in list box next to Source and Output Property.
Now my question to you guys is depending on Source Connection it should read that text file associated with connection manager. After validation it should pick header (first line of text file bases on record type) and write it into new file when task is executed. I have following code for your reference. Please let me know I am going in right direction or not.. What should go here ? ->Under Class A
I have a package A which is copied from another existing package B as most of the data structure and ETL mappings are same.
What I need to change in Package A is to change the file in Flat File Connection Manager. I can change it in the conneciton manager editor. However, it is automatically changed back to the previous one everytime when I try to Save All or run the package.
I also tried to copy/paste this Flat File Connection Manager in the same package but samething happen. The package file is not set 'Read Only" so anything else can Saved well except for the File name in connection manager.
Is this a bug? It would be very appreciated if anyone can give me any idea about this.
I'm used to DTS but new to SSIS. What's a good reference/tutorial that deals with transforming columns of data (from a flat file) from one format to another when uploading into SQL2005? Typically columns of data have "" around the values and spaces that I want to remove.

Flat file source Derived or Copy Column? OLE DB Destination
I have hard coded the value for the User::FilePath variable in the parent package.
I am mapping this variable to the value of the same variable in the Child Package.
I created a directory and sql file: "C: empsqlb.sql". I have verified that the path variable value is passed to the child package by using a Script task with a messgbox call.
How do I define an execute sql task to execute sql file: @[User::FilePath] & "sqlb.sql". I'm using this expression for the SqlStatementSource property. I have entered the OLEDB server information and specified the SQLSourceType = fileconnection.
However I get the error:
[Execute SQL Task] Error: Connection manager "D: lewisdevZsqlb.sql" does not exist.
What happens is that the flat file connection non of the columns can be altered
you can set them in other ssis packages but not in the one that you want to use and when it comes to changes the flat file complains that not a correct file is set, even though there is one set,
and when it comes to altering a flat file source it complains that it can not find the connection and the database destination can not find the meta data BUT
when it is run it works perfectly,
so what i have had to resort to is making the part of the dts package in another package and then copying it accross
Okay, can I assign line x of a flat file to a variable, parse that line, do my data transformations, and then move on to line x+1?

In other words, I'm looking at using a for loop to cycle through a flat file. I have the for loop set up, and the counter's iterating correctly. How do I point at a particular line in a flat file?
We are designing a server where functions and procedures are to be kept in a single database. Our other databases will call these functions. The functions will need to reference tables in the schema being called from. Is it possible to pass a schema name to a function? If so, then how?
