Connect From 2005 Developer Edition To 2000 Developer Edition

I'm trying to register a developer's 2000 pc from my 2005 pc.
i'm not sure this is even something possible from Dev Edition to Dev Edition- I can register a 2000 server just fine.
I can ping him. Both our systems have remote access 'on'. His server is (local), i've tried connecting to it by just entering his machine name and by using just the ip address. The error I get is "timeout expired. The timeout elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding."
Am I just not registering this properly? I entered just the ip address in the 'server' box. I am connecting as sa with the pw he gave me. When i connect to my server, I use the ip addressinstance. However, I am not sure what to use for the instance when all I see when I look at his machine is (local).
I haven't needed to do this before.

Email Delivery
Apr 11, 2007I'm using the web service to run reports from an application. However, I don't want to wait for a report to complete; I would like to just have the report emailed to the user when it is complete. I've only found email delivery through subscriptions. Is there another way to deliver reports via email?
If I have to use subscriptions I would like to set them to run "immediately". I've found that setting the start date to sometime in the past does not seem to run the report. Is there some way to set a schedule to run immediately. I've thought of setting the time to the near future, but I seem to have the problem of getting the proper timestamp. Can I get this through the web service some how?

Jan 10, 2007In Sql Reporting Services 2005 (This is bolded because this same error is all over the web for Sql Reporting Services 2000 and thats not where my problem lies) I schedule a report to be emailed. However when the delivery extensions Deliver method is called I get the following error

So it seems to be failing at GetAuthzContextForUser
I've set up my smtp as out domain email smtp, given the accounts all the permissions I could (Even going to far as to give Everyone permissions everywhere)
Currently my IIS, SQL 2005 and reporting Services 2005 as well as my local SMTP is running on the local machine account.
I cannot seem to get it to work, or even give me a different error.
Could anybody please tell me what needs permission where and what settings I need to have set up for this not to happen.
Some extra information
I'm using Windows XP to develop on however the server where this will eventually run is Windows Server 2003
I'm using ASP.NET 2 and SQL Reporting Services 2005 and SQL 2005 with sp1 loaded

Mar 14, 2007I have a report server set with an smtp account with Alias set to False but will not allow me to send e-mail outside the network. E-mail report delivery works fine to any e-mail with @mycompany.com but to an e-mail like @hotmail.com it gets rejected saying e-mail not recognized. I tried all config possibilities know to this man but nothing works. If long into the smtp server itself I can send e-mails outside of company. I'm thinking it may require a password from SSRS config but there is no place to put one. Any one know how to config SSRS to deliver e-mails to any and all e-mails accounts?

I am attempting to use the SQL Server 2008 Developer Edition (Management Studio) to create/manage a Compact Edition 3.5 database. My problem is that I cannot even create/open the compact database in Management Studio. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. TIA
Problem Creating the Compact Database:
Open 2008 Management Studio
From menu choose File | Connect Object Explorer...
Choose SQL Server Compact Edition as the Server type.
Choose <New Database...> as the Database file.
Browse to folder where file will be created (C:MyDatabase#1.sdf was used in my example)
Leave all other field as default selections OR make changes, either way it does not work.
Click OK.
At this point the OK button just becomes disabled and nothing happens.
Problem Opening An Existing Compact Database:
Open 2008 Management Studio
From menu choose File | Connect Object Explorer...
Choose SQL Server Compact Edition as the Server type.
Choose <Browse for more...> as the Database file and locate a ".sdf" file that I created using VS2008.
Enter password, if any.
Click OK.

I am interested in taking MCTS exam 70-431 for sql server 2005 implementation and maintainance.
I have been reading the hardware requirements for the instalation of sql server versions and realise that enterprise and developer editions have same minimum requirements for the operation system.
I understand that the Developer Edition includes all the functionality of SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition, but it is licensed for use as a development and test system, not as a production server.
Also I undestand that the developer edition supports the Windows XP Home Edition with SP2 or later but the enterprise edition does not support this operating system. The evaluation/trial version is for the enterprise edition. Can I use the developer version of sql server 2005 for my practice exercises instead of using the trial version?
I have all hardware requirements for the trial enterprise version except that I am using Microsoft windows Xp home edition version 2002 with SP2. I am trying to see if I can use the developer version of sql server 2005 as it is cheaper for me to buy this software than buying the new operating system for my computer.
According to the microsoft book for the MCTS exam 70-431 there is a section which states that before you begin you should have Microsoft Windows Server 2003 running on your computer on an NTFS file system
(NTFS) partition. Will I still be ok to use the book and be able to do all the tests in the book if i am using the developer version of sql server 2005 with my Microsoft windows Xp home edition than using the trial version which comes with the book?

Change From Developer Edition To Enterprise Edition Of SQL Server 2005 64 Bit
May 20, 2008We have an existing installation of SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition (64bit) that we are ready to go live with and would like to change the edition to Enterprise Edition (64bit). We have purchased all the appropriate licenses. We would like to avoid UN-installing the Developer Edition and RE-installing the Enterprise Edition. There must be some way to change a registry key, provide your serial number via a command line utility or re-run the setup with the license key provided and direct it to just change the edition from Developer to Enterprise and not change any of the other settings like service account, sa account, collation, etc. Any help is most appreciated.

Problem Description:
I have a requirement for which I have created a data driven subscription in
SQL Server 2005, the whole thing works like this:
I have a report on Report Server which executes a stored procedure to get
its parameters; then it calls another stored procedure to get data for the
report; then it creates the report and copies it to a file share. This is
done using data driven subscription and the time set for repeating this
process is 5 minutes.
You can assume that following are working fine:
1. I have deployed the report on the Report Manager (Uploaded the report,
created a data source, linked the report to data source) - manually, the
report works fine.
2. Created a data driven subscription.
3. The data driven subscription calls a stored procedure, say
GetReportParameters which returns all the parameters required for the report
to execute.
4. The Report Manager executes the report by calling a stored procedure, say
GetReportData with the parameters provided by GetReportParameters stored
procedure; after it has generated the report file (PDF) is copied to a file
share.
For each row that GetReportParameters stored procedure returns a report (PDF
file) will be created and copied to file share.
Now, my question is
1. How to I get a notification that this file was successfully created
or an error occurred?
2. The only message that reporting service shows on 'Report Manager >
My Subscriptions' is something like "Done: 5 processed of 10 total; 2
errors."
How do I find out which record was processed successfully and which ones
resulted in an error?
Based on above results (success or failure), I have to perform further
operations.
Solutions or Work around that I have found:
1. Create a windows service which will monitor the file share folder
and look for the file name (each record has a unique file name) for the
reports that were picked up for PDF creation. If the file is not found, this
service will report an error. Now, there's a glitch there; if a report takes
very long time to execute it will also be reported as error (i.e. when this
service checks for the PDF file, the report was currently being generated).
So, I can't go with this solution.
2. I have also looked at following tables on ReportServer database:
a. Catalog - information regarding all the reports, folders, data
source information, etc.
b. Subscriptions - all the subscriptions information.
c. ExecutionLog - information regarding execution of the subscriptions
and the also manual execution of reports.
d. Notifications - information regarding the errors that occurred
during subscription execution.
For this solution, I was thinking of doing a windows service which will
monitor these tables and do further operations as required.
This looks like most feasible solution so far.
3. Third option is to look at DeliveryExtensions but in that case I
will have to manually call SSRS APIs and will have to manage report
invocation and subscription information. What is your opinion on this?

SQL Statement Execution On Standard Edition Vs Developer Edition
Sep 25, 2007We have a performance problem with a SQL statement (never completes) on one of our customer€™s sites. They are running SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition with SP2. The server is dual core with 3GB or RAM.
We requested a backup of the database and restored it to a SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition Server with SP2. The server has a single CPU with 2GB or RAM. However the exact same SQL (cut and paste) executes in approx 35 seconds.
We restored the backup of the customers database SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition with SP2. The server is dual core with 2GB or RAM. However as on eth customer site the SQL never completes.
So our question is why is this happening and is there a solution?
Our understanding is that the SQL Server 2005 engine is the same but Developer Edition (aka Enterprise Edition) has additional options.

I tried to download PerformancePoint Server Trial Version to ther server today and I got to the configuration point of the Analysis Services Setting, and when I clicked next to proceed with the configuration I got a popup error message:
"Microsoft Analysis Server must be Evaluation, Developer or Enterprise Edition".
Now I have SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition Disc (Bought it with Visual Studio 2005) but on the server I have SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition, if I try to run the sql server developer Edition disc, I use the wizard download and it seems that the download is going through the SQL Server entire download, it's like I'm re-downloading SQL Server all over again.
Does that seem right?
what is the best approach to work around this probelm?

SSRS 2005 Web Farm Error : The Delivery Extension For This Subscription Could Not Be Loaded.
Jun 22, 2007We are using RS2005 for a year now and never had any problems especially with mail subscriptions.
Since we transferred from single RS machine to web farm everything works ok except mail subscriptions. Subscription sometimes (?!?!?!?!) refuse to export report to a document of any kind. I repeat that this is a random thing which is more often with PDF and less with Web Archive or Excel. We are using shared schedules and on demand execution of AddEvent stored procedure by night batches to send mail to users. Also, original error from RS log says something that this kind of operation is not supported for server working in native mode. We don't have SharePoint so we never used it in any other way then native mode and it worked.
Any idea will be appreciated!

It seems that problem is not loading dll used to export report to a file but loading email subscription extension (dll that needs to be loaded for execution of email subscription.)

Problem Replicating From Std Edition To Developer Edition

from: Win 2K Server, SQL Std Edition 8.00.818 SP3
to: Win XP Pro, SQL Developer Edition 8.00.2039 SP4
XP has Firewall 'Off', and I added sqlservr.exe and port 1433 to the exceptions list.
Subscription on Win 2K Server gets error that it cannot connect to the subscriber system: SQL Server does not exist or access denied.
Ping from the Win2K to the WinXP box works fine.
The WinXP SQL login works when I connect from my desktop to the XP box using both SQL Ent Mgr and Query Analyzer.
Any ideas?

If I choose not to install the Developer Edition (Im quite new to SQL) can I deploy a database I develop in the express edition on a regular SQL server?

I don't know if it is easily possible to upgrade by only inserting the DVD and start the Setup...

I have noticed there are several versions of SQL Server 2000. Enterprise, Personal and Developer. I undestand the difference between Enterprise and Personal Editions, but I do not know what make Developer different. Does any one know?

I've just reached the end of my frustration with trying to learn MSDE with no interface (in addition to simultaneously learning ASP.NET), so I'm going to install 2K Developer Edition. However, I'd like to know if it's safe install it on top of MSDE. I'm currently running XP Pro, VS.NET, IIS 5.x, so I'm afraid that if I have uninstall MSDE that I'll break a bunch things that I've painstakingly configured. ;-)

Backup Using Developer Edition
Jan 2, 2007I have sql server developer edition on a computer at home. I would like to back up the database onto a separate device (in case my computer blows up or something). So I'm thinking of setting up a little home network and backing up the database onto another computer or maybe onto a network drive. Remembering that developer edition is only licensed for one user, is there anything to stop me doing this? I will not be in breach of the licence, as it will only be me using the data. However, I have the feeling that the developer edition is not set up to work with networks.
Can anyone help me out please?
DTS In 2005 Developer Edition
Oct 3, 2007I develop for a number of clients, and rely on DTS in SQL Server 2000 to transport schemas and data to remote client databases.
I've been using the Express edition of the SQL Server 2005 Management Studio to access these databases lately, but it does not have the DTS feature, which is horribly inconvenient when I need to add tables, etc to remote databases.
If I purchase the Developer Edition of SQL Server 2005, and install the Management Studio on my workstation (my development db is on another machine), will it give me full DTS support for remote databases, or is DTS limited to one db only?
I've searched MS and this obscure info doesn't seem to be there anywhere. Does anyone know this?
