Emailed Subscription Not Including Port Number In Servername URL Link For Report

Aug 14, 2007

I hope someone can help as I have searched for a solution but been unable to find one as yet.

My problem is that after installing SharePoint V3.0 and amending the Report Server to <ServerName>:8080, as I don't yet wish to use integrated mode, everything works fine except email delivered subscriptions. The URL in the email body referencing the report only puts in <ServerName> etc. omitting the port number :8080. I have tried to find where this URL link is built-up from but have had no luck in the report manager, report services configuration and the config files, does anyone know where I need to look and if possible what I need to amend to have the link include :8080 after the servername portion of the URL. I can copy the URL and manually insert the port address and it works but this defeats the object of automated subscriptions.

Sorry if this is a dumb question but it is giving me a headache at the moment.

All answers gratefully received,

Andy

Cannot Get Subscription Email When Including Report, But Can Get It When Just Sending Link

Jul 12, 2007

When I set up an email subscription for a report, I can get the email notification if I only include a link to the report, but get the generic "Failure sending mail: The report server has encountered a configuration error. See the report server log files for more information." error message when I attempt to include the actual report in the email; either as "Web Archive," or PDF." When I consult the ReportServer log file, I do not see any sort of exception that would indicate the true source of the error.

I have set the file security on the RSTempFiles folder to allow the IIS_WPG group to modify the folder, but when I looked into the RS config files, it looked as though SSRS wasn't configured to use temporary storage.

Any suggestions?

AppSettings From Web.config Cannot Be Referenced In Emailed Report Subscription

May 2, 2007

Server Software:

SQL Server 2000 (all sp's up to date)

SSRS 2000 (all sp's up to date)

We have an error when a report subscription is sent via email.

Our report definitions reference a key in the web.config file so that we can have a single location to reference our department's name in all reports. Our department name changes frequently as our company is bought and sold and it is difficult to manually update 700+ reports.

In report designer we have a text field with the following value expression:

=System.Configuration.ConfigurationSettings.appSettings("Department").ToString()

Our web.config looks like this:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>

<configuration>

....extra settings truncated for brevity...

<appSettings>

<add key="Department" value="Report created by: Corporate Reporting and Analysis" />

</appSettings>

</configuration>

The reports work perfectly in every aspect accept when they are schedules to be emailed. When the email recipient receives the email (not matter what format, mhtl, pdf, etc...) the department string value is replaced with: #Error

Is this a bug with the report schedule and deilvery component? ..or is there a permission problem when accessing: System.Configuration.ConfigurationSettings.appSettings("Department").ToString() ?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

URL Link In Subscription Email Does Not Render Report

Apr 25, 2008

I have set up a test subscription that sends an email that includes both the report and the url link to the report. However, the report does not render when user clicks on url link in subscription email. The parameter toolbar sorta appears at top of page but buttons are not showing correcty. I saw similiar issue posted in another forum but no one had resolved yet. We all noticed that the subscription email uses /reportserver folder instead of /Reports folder.

The report does appear fine in the email so I believe the problem is the URL.

Can anyone tell me how to resolve?

Thanks,
Tammy

The URL from Report Manager is

http://dss0vw037.svr.us.jpmchase.net/Reports/Pages/Report.aspx?ItemPath=%2fIOC+Metrics%2fDCS+Emergency+Contact+List

The URL in subscription email

http://dss0vw037.svr.us.jpmchase.net/reportserver?%2fIOC+Metrics%2fDCS+Emergency+Contact+List&rs%3aParameterLanguage=en-US

Include Report Link In Subscription Does Not Render The Correct URL

Jun 29, 2006

Hi,

I am sure there is a thread about that one but I cannot find it.

I have a server which does not include the correct link with the subsciptions.

I create a subscription and ask to include the link to the reporet, I get the report with the machine name instead of the DNS name.

i.e. i get

The report is accessible at the following address:

http://atlanta/reportserver/...

instead of http://reporting.onsemi.com/reports/....

I tried to edit rswebapplication.config like that

<ReportServerUrl>reporting.onsemi.com</ReportServerUrl>

and rsreportserver.config like that

<DefaultHostName>onsemi.com</DefaultHostName>

but still cannot get the correct URL in the subscription.

Any idea?

Thanks,

Philippe

Creating A Report That Is Emailed Every Night

Oct 10, 2007

Hi,

Some of you might remember me posting a question about importing data from a csv. Well I've managed to do that now by writing a vb.net service.

Now all I need to do is have some kind of method of exporting the data as a report via email every night.

The tables are as follows...

CDetails
cNumber
ClName
FE

Disb_1
cNumber
type
dateReq
payee
amount
vat
total
chequeReq

Disb_2 - Disb_20
"Same as Disb_1"

The report structure I need is...

cNumber ClName FE type dateReq payee amount vat total chequeReq

With data from each disb on a new line, i.e. cNumber could be the same for 20 rows! (don't blame me, it's what they want!)

The records should only be shown though when the dateReq is equal to today. I think I can do that with the DateDiff function.

The problem I have is knowing how to set the report up and what to do it in, Reporting services or Business Intelligence. The report only has to be an email, would it even be simpler to write an extra class into my service?

Retrieving A File Link From The Database And Including Its Code On Page

Dec 21, 2004

Hi there folks,

was just wondering if there was an easy way to include a files contents into a web page via a database field. A bit confusing i know.

Here goes:

I got a field called ContentPage stored in a database. (e.g Index.htm)

I want to retrieve this page and then include its contents in my middle div of the webpage like so: <!--#include file="<%=ContentPage%>"-->. Not allowing me to do this as you may have guessed. These pages will either be htm or aspx pages. This would make my life so much easier.

Is there any way of doing this or am i kidding myself.

Would appreciate any help.

Does Link In Subscription Point To Live Or Snapshot?

Mar 19, 2007

This should be an easy one...

You get an email that contains a link to a report. The email was sent automatically as part of a subscription.

Does that link point to a snapshot that was taken when the report was run, or does clicking the link cause the report to re-run altogether?

Thanks,
Dan

Migrated SSRS With Old Server Name In Subscription Link

Jan 16, 2008

Hi there,

Some months ago, we migrated our SQL Server Reporting services server from Server 'Alpha' to server 'Bravo'. I thought we performed all of the steps needed to accomplish this task based on various Microsoft Articles that we identified. The fact that everything has been running fine (we thought) for the last several months confirmed our belief that everything was done.

Our problem found the other day is with a report 'Subscription'. The other day, a user called me and said their subscription is coming to them fine with the report displayed, but the link to re-run the report at the bottom of the e-mailed document doesn't work. I looked at the e-mail they received and found that the link had 'http://alpha/reportserver/...' instead of 'http://bravo/reportsserver/...'. Since 'Bravo' is the name of the new server, I new something was a miss. I tried creating a new subscription to a report and the result was the same 'http://alpha/reportserver/...' I've looked high and low in the SQL Reporting services configuration and can not figure out where I missed a change from 'Alpha' to 'Bravo'.

Has anyone seen anthing like this? If you can help me out it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! - Eric-

Can Profiler Display Port Number?

Feb 6, 2007

Where - in SQL Server Profiler - can I see the port number that someone has used to connect to a database?

e.g. given the connect string "tcp:MACHINE1INSTANCE7,3045" - where in Profiler does it tell me that the connection is using port 3045? I looked at "audit login" and "existing connection" but I don't see a port number...

Any other SQL/Windows tools that I can use to monitor connections to databases on specific ports?

Finding Port Number In SQL Server 2005

Feb 13, 2008

I know the ..Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLLOGErrorLog on the server contains the information. But that needs I to RDP to the server or open the file remotely. Is there any other way to find out the port from my SSMS connection?

I remember in SQL Server 2000 you could find the information by choosing Properties of a connection in EM and click on the Network Configuration button. (I know it works when you are ON THE SERVER! But when I tried from my desktop, pressing the button didn't do anything)

MS SQL 2000 TCPIP Port Number And SQL Replication

Jul 20, 2005

Hi allI'm struggling to find an answer to this one! We've configured our SQL boxes to run under a different port number,e.g. from 1433 to 4533. This works fine under our Citrix enviornmnetwhere the dsn is configured to use the new port. The problem comes interms of SQL Server management. For example, when you try andconfigure SQL Replication, it is not possible to add the subscriberunless the SQL Servce runs under port 1433, the default port. Thesame goes when you try to add the server as a registered server withinthe Enterprise Manager MMC.Does anyone know how you can configure SQL Server to run under adifferent port number, without naffecting SQL REPLICATION, etc? Many thnaksNikJoin Bytes!

SQL 2005 Unattended Install TCP Port Number

Oct 19, 2007

Hi All,

I am having an issue with SQL 2005 unattended install, I cannot see where in the template.ini file you can specify the TCP port number for SQL 2005 to listen to I want to change it to a specific port number, I know you can do this in an unattended install on SQL 2000.

Also in an unattended install of SQL 2000 and 2005 is there any way you can specify the database and transaction logs location for new databases to be installed on another drive then the system databases. I know you can change this later in SQL server properties but I wanted this to be done during the install or is there a T-SQL script which can do this after?

Any help on this will be great.

Cheers

Programatically Create A DSN For SQL-Server With Non-standard Port-number

Apr 16, 2007

Hi all,

I have to create a DSN for SQL-Server. Therefor I use the function "SQLConfigDataSource" from "ODBCCP32.DLL". But the problem is that the SQL-Server does not use the Standard-Portnumber 1433. I've tried to make the DSN with "SERVERNAME xxxx" where xxxx is the Portnumber, sometimes it works, but often it does not. When it does not work, then the Checkbox in the ODBC-Configuration-Tool is checked, so the connection is searching for the standard-port. How can I tell the system that it shall NOT use dynamic configuration?

Thanks for help,

Named Instance Connectivity Error - Only Works When Port Number Is Specified??

Sep 27, 2007

I have a new named instance (SQL Server 2005 x64 SP2 (Build 3159) Developer edition) setup with dynamic port selection. A default instance was also running on the server prior to the named instance setup.

SQL Server Browser service is running. Remote connections are configured on the named instance. But still remote clients can only connect when the port number is specified after the instance name (servernameinstancename,9999). Without the port number, "error 26 - Error locating Server/instance specified" is thrown.

Doesn't the SQL Server Browser service eliminate the need for clients to specify the port number? What am I missing?

Thanks.
