Synchronous Vs Asynchronous Outputs

If you have a data file, and you only want CERTAIN rows to pass to the destination, ie) a table
and you are using a script task to accomplish this,
is this a synchronous or asynchronous transformation?
Q. And how do you assign the values to the output? Do you have to create output columns, or not?
I am very very confused right now. I can't seem to find a decent answer to what is a very basic question either in my SSIS book or in the documenation. Perhaps it is so basic, that the question doesn't seem valid? I don't know. But I just don't understand this at all.

Adding To Outputs Together To Retrieve The Top(10) - Is It Possible??

I have been struggling day and night with the creation of a store procedure due to not being able to retieve the rows I need for SUM and AVG functions.
I have two tables ('actions' & 'incident_types') which both have a score value for each record. In my database, I have reports that contain both action codes and incident_type codes based on a personnel_code.
In simple terms I'm trying to do the following:-
For all reports, find each personnel member and thier attached incident_types and action codes and then, for each score from the actions and incident_types tables, create the SUM of the 'combined' scores.
I have successfully retrieved the output for the scores individually but I need the TOP(10) of the combined output.....
I'm currently using to seperate queries as follows :--
--This gives me the incident type output...... Creating the 'Volume' column which is the total Score for incidetn_types

Emailing From MS SQL

I would like to set up a job to send mail out to clients on a semi-regular basis. Is there a way to mail directly from MS SQL.
or some application which I can set to interface with MS SQL and send these mails out.
I'm currently using asp.net, however, doing it through the web is very time consuming, I would much rather use some application to generate the mails on the server as it currently takes close to 20 min to send through the web interface (and that's only to 900 members, we are looking at having at least 2000 members in a few weeks). What am I looking for is something I can call perhaps with transact sql so I can run it through an ms sql server job, however any solution you have would be fantastic.
If you don't have specific details, that's fine, I'm not even sure what apps etc to look into, even a name of some technology to use (or does MS SQL have a way of doing all of this itself?)

I have an stordprocedure that returns a resultset , an output value and an return value.
I invoked this procedure using an sqlcommand object ( by ExecudeReader method ) and I filled a SqlDataReader object by the resultset.
dr = cmd.ExecudeReader();
but I cant reach its output variable and its return value (cmd.parameters["@ret"].value).
an exception raises : object refrence error!
what is wrong in this approach ?
please help me.
How To Handle Large Outputs From RDBMS
Nov 30, 2014Obviously Excel is the tool of choice for most people but with it's limited ability to leverage RAM (32 bit) and it's limitation with rows at just over 1 million what other choices do we have for viewing data?
My bosses boss created several OLAP universes and they seems to fly a lot fast than regular relational database. This still doesn't work with the fact the data can't be worked with unless you have a strong front end that can handle processing all those rows.

Multicast Does Not Send Data To All Outputs
Apr 11, 2007Hello, I am using a multicast with 5 outputs, I attempting to pass about four thousand rows to different destinations. However, upon execution only two of the outputs send the rows to the destination. After deleting the multicast and reinserting it, different destinations received the data. The number of destinations is also not consistant, sometimes 3 work and sometimes only 1 works.

What I am trying to do is very simple. I just want to run 2 stored procedures, then have the output from both sp's written to a single file.
I created a Data Flow task, then put 2 OLE DB Source adapters in the Data Flow task, one for each stored procedure.
Next, I dropped a Flat File destination object onto the page. However, I can only connect ONE arrow from one of the OLE DB Source adapters to the Flat File destination. It won't let me connect both.
What am I doing wrong here? How can I accomplish what I am trying to do here?

Script Component With Multiple Outputs

I wonder if someone might be able to help me with scripting a script component. I'd like to include error redirection of rows within my script.
If the conversion of any of my inputs fail i'd like to catch the error and then just output all values to another output path. The output path will just take the input values without converting them from string data types and output them to an error table.
In the script i imagine i would use try catch statements and if it fails then set the output. I am not entirely sue as to how to go about switching between outputs though.
Any help on this matter would be greatfully recieved.

Feb 7, 2006I have a DTS package that runs 4x a day and generates an excel spreadsheet, renames that spreadsheet with a datetime stamp and then places it into a folder on our network. I have been asked to email that spreadsheet to someone everytime the package runs.
My question is what would be the best way to handle this and how do I ensure that whatever process I define grabs the correct file? The folder that the Excel file is being placed into has multiple files in it. Is there a way to tell SQL Server which file to grab and email?
Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Emailing Errors
Feb 19, 2007I'm sort of new to SSIS so I apologize if this is a trivial question:
I setup a package and want it to email me if there is any errors. Right now I got it working to send me a pre-written message about the failure, but I want to load the full task failure message into variable and email it on the email body.
But so far I have not found a way to save the error messages into variables so I can email them. Anyone can help with that one?

I am currently using a generic queue, and a custom class. I am creating an instance of the class in the ProcessINputRow and then adding it to the Queue.
The CreateNewOutputRows Dequeues the class instances and creates buffer rows.
Is there a better solution?

I wrote a source, which works with a single output, but after adding a second output, I see no rows there. I've single-stepped the code in the debugger, and it looks like it should be adding rows to the second output, but the downstream component never sees any.

Jan 5, 2001Whenever a certain stored procedure executes I need to email both admin and clients (different messages). I have created an error within the SP and can RAISE the error and thus notify admin staff but how can i email the client also ? I can obtain the cient email address from thye system but how can i email them ? Can i use xp_sendmail within a stored procedure ? If so, how as i can't seem to get it working ?

I am trying to use €œSQL Server Business Intelligence Development Studio€? (what is the short name for this) to complete a check and then possibly email me depending on what happens.
The check is around two tables that I have. There is a chance that they will become out of sync with each other and so I want to know when a field (ACCOUNTID) has a value that is in one table and not the other. I can do the check but I would like the package to email me when there is a problem (and if possible email me the details) and do nothing when everything is OK.
Can anybody give me some hints to point me in the correct direction as I just seem to be chasing my tail at the moment,

The problem is this.
I have many short messages in a table. I need to tigh them together in one long email message and email to the users.
But xp_sendmail is limited to 7,790.
How could I send longer messages? Or how could I devide the long message and send it in parts (i.e. separate consequtive emails)?
This doesn't work, it still cuts the messages off at around 7,790:

Continuation Of Emailing An Excel File

I need to create a new excel file daily and then need to mail it.
The problem iam facing is that ,when i schedule a job the task that dumps data into excel(Dataflow task ) gives a validation error.Everytime i need to manually link the sheets of the excel to the corresponding tables.
Any idea why this is happening?So iam unable to schedule as a job...

I'm hoping someone here will be able to guide me in the right direction. I am trying to figure out a way of looping through table columns or a flat file in which there will be three parameters every time. With these parameters I am then wanting to run a report using two of these parameters to feed into the report and then email this out to an email address which would be my third parameter. Does anyone here have any idea how I would go about doing this?

1) I created an operator - me.
2) I created a job which runs a query.

4) I've set the alert to email and delay is between responses 2 minutes.
It history tables says number of occurences is 18964. However, I don't receive an email.
Shouldn't the alert send an email? Do I need to include email code in the job?
