i ran a preview of a matrix based report whose column headers are dates. The dates seem to be displaying in a somewhat (not completely) random order from left to right. How can I ensure that they display chronologically from left to right?

In my report, I have a Matrix control placed next to a table. It renders properly and displays data aligned in two controls in Visual Studio Preview. However, when I deploy to production, it wraps the matrix control below the table, in fact puts the entire matrix control underneath the table. Why such strange behavior and not in the Preview of the report but only in Production? Any ideas how to fix this?

I'm consistently getting >10 minute render times in a matrix based report whose underlying query only takes 1-2 seconds to run in both RS's data tab and mgt studio. The bad render times occur in preview tab, Report Viewer and when requested from Report Manager. I believe most of the time being taken is RS's attempt to pivot and present the data.
I can run a homegrown query that pivots (with unknown number of cols) the data itself in under 4 seconds but would be concerned about mapping an unknown number of columns to a table region in RS.
The matrix I'm testing with is 67 columns across (just over 2 months of daily columns) and is supposed to be 207 rows long. There is no aggregation required by RS when it is pivoting the data because each intersection occurs at most one time in the query's result set. The number of data points actually being "bucketed" is around 13,800 values. Row headers consist of 3 columns.
RS is also cutting off the number of rows it is supposed to be showing. The number of rows cutoff seems to be 100% repeatable based on the date range chosen. RS doesnt tell me when it cuts off rows that should have been displayed. From what I can tell so far, it never cuts off columns.
The number of rows cut off seems consistent across designer's preview, report viewer and when requested thru report manager. The "run" command (exclamation icon in data tab) seems to always return the correct number of unpivoted rows, just as in mgt studio.
Are there known bugs and or limitations in RS's matrix data region feature? Are there some settings or workarounds that might make it work more to my liking?

I have a matrix report that shows a certain columns and rows. I need a row counter to show me the amount of rows in that matrix but it doesn't count properly by using the expression: =Int(RowNumber("matrix1") -1)
I actually don't have any idea on what this expression should be to fix the row count...to illustrate what I get in the report:

As you can see above, the row count numbers are not lining up at all, it starts at 1, then jumps 2 every count then all of a sudden jumps 5 per line...a pattern that is interesting but difficult to understand. The unique value in this matrix is that serial number but even though i group it by the serial number, it still gives me the funny Row count values.
What would be the approach to solving this?

Could someone describe to me how to have headers remain visible while scrolling in a matrix? I can do this in a table without a problem but can't seem to find this option for a matrix.
I am developing a matrix report in SRS. In columns group there are several values. When report runs they apper in any order based on the first record in row group. I want colums to apeear in specific order all the time. For example the column sequence in one out put is Follwup 1, Initial , Followup 2. I want to column header to be in order of Initial, Folloup 1, Followup 2.

I'm trying to implement Interactive Soring on the column headers in a matrix in a report. Is it actually possible to do this? I've read several internet posts and stories of implementing the Interactive Sorting in the upper-left corner of the matrix, but this is not what I want, I want to implement it on the column headers .
The goal I'm trying to achieve is to give the user the possibillity to click on a column header to sort the rows below in asc- or descending direction.
Please tell me if this is possible, because all my efforts have not been succesfull! If it's possible, please provide the solution to do this.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI am trying to display hirearchical data using data region. For eg. the first level will be a list of customer names. The second level will be a list of Invoices under each customer. The third level will be a list of product names that were sold under each invoice.
I used a list for the data region and in each hireachy, there is a textbox in each list to display the data. I am trying to associate each data region with a datatable (I will provide the logic to populate the datatable with appropiate data). I do not want the ReportViewer to interact directly with a database because this is a 3 tier design and I am using the ReportViewer in local mode. I couldn't find any example of these. Can anybody help? Also I would like to see an example of the .rdlc file in these situation. Thanks very much.

I have four tables that need to be loaded into an ASP.NET application. They need to be loaded together into one result set and sorted. Is it possible to load four tables together and sort them using an SQL statement?
To clarify, say I have the following data:
Table1: Anglesey, Cardiff, Ceredigion
Table2: London, Dorset, Lancashire
Table3: Antrim, Armagh
Table4: Glasgow, Berwick, Edinburgh

I am aware of and am using the SELECT ... ORDER BY feature of MSSQL in my present ASP.NET application to retrieve from single database tables. I'm using merged datasets and a sort method to solve the above problem at the moment.
I have a report which produces invoices.
These invoices are more complex than your average ones.
The invoice is for one customer but many orders. Within the invoice, orders are grouped together by their delivery address which can be different for each order within the invoice. I throw a page for each seperate delivery account and sub-total by delivery account too. All this works fine and page breaks are all OK. However I also need a summary page at the end of the invoice showing 1 line per delivery account andf the sub-total for it, then I show a grand total.
To achieve this, I used a list control, grouping on Invoice number. within it I placed 2 tables. 1 is the main Invoice table, the 2nd is the summary table. I have a page break on a group in table 1 that controls the split on delivery account. I have a page breaks on table 2. Again this all works fine and paging is perfect.
Here's the crunch though! If the invoice only contains one delivery account, I need to suppress the summary table. This I can do BUT I still get the page throw for it, effectively giving blank pages. The page break is triggered regardless of whether the containing control is visible or not.
I'm pretty accomplished with RS and I've tried all sorts of tricks and hacks to get round it but it seems a page break is added regardless of whether the control triggering it is visible or not!
I've tried rectangles both with the table in it and outside. And with the page break on the rectangle and when that didn't work , on the table inside it.
Any one else have any ideas on this.

I've never attempted to use the "Repeat Report Item with Data Region on Every Page " feature before. I'm trying to use it on text boxes with the data region being a matrix. I have a report that is two pages, and the text boxes are only appearing on the first page. Also, the matrix is appearing with zero space between it and the header. Any ideas?

before anyone even says it, i checked the collation order on everything and it's the same. i get the error when the snapshot is trying to be bulk copied to the subscriber.

Now, use transactional replication to replicate it to another db taking all the defaults. when the distribution agent tries to apply the snapshot, it fails with the message mentioned in the title..

Each entry has an auto ID number allocated (primary key auto sequencing), which I want to change to reflect the sorting (so the first date has the first auto ID number and so on).I've gone into the database and sorted the entries as I want them. Then I've gone into Design View to delete and restablish the primary key autosequence. However, it is not keeping the date order in the database (ie entry ID 3140 date is 12/06/2015, but 3141 is 02/02/2012). How do I get it to maintain the order?

I'm trying to design a report that displays a particular embedded image on the first page, and then a different one on every subsequent page. I.e full, fancy company logo on the first page, and a trimmed down version on every other. In Crystal, I would have simply used the Report Header and Page Header sections to achieve this - easy.
However, in SQL Reporting Services, there is only a Page Header section - therefore whatever I place in the Page Header shows on every page. Now, I know how to stop it displaying on the first page, but I don't know how to display the other image instead.
I read in a support forum that it is possible to do this by "placing report items above or below your data regions" but I can't get it to work.
Grateful for any assistance.

If I have a table that spans more than one page and I set the RepeatHeaderOnNewPage to True, then on occasion the table header will be displayed on top of the first few rows of data. It does not happen on all the pages or all the time and I can not find any information on this issue. Has anyone come across this before and solved it?

For our database application we get our primary keys by calling a stored procedure that pass's in the table name and outputs the next primary key number assigned to that table.

I then take that primary key, and other data, and insert that into the desired table.
The Problem I am having is that my user's keep getting "cannot insert duplicate key in table".
So I assume that I do not have the transaction set right, or missing something.
I need it to lock the row in the t_keyGenerator table so that no other users can view that row until I update it with the new value and commit the transaction.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
In a previous post I asked the question relating to moving a file assoicated with a connection. It appears I need to close the connection first.

Does anybody have any experience/advice on how to ensure that SOAP service call success/failures are returned to the calling app?
Consider a client that calls a SOAP service during which the client goes down and is unable to receive the SOAP response, the work having been done by the service. Similarly, the SOAP service may perform the task but a failure in the return makes the client think the process failed.
What would be the best way to ensure that the client is notified to avoid the call having to be made again?
Are there middleware tools that can be used to provide a form of message queuing for SOAP service calls?

I am using web service to synchronize data between SQL Server 2005 on a desktop and a SQL Server Mobile Edition on a mobile device.
Initially, when i added the data source to my mobile application, my .sdf only has 3 records. I am then supposed to retrieve 97 more records from the desktop server when my mobile application runs. After performing merging, I clicked (on my device emulator) on the .sdf deployed under my mobile application and the query analyzer showed all 100 records.
Does this mean my mobile database has been successfully updated with all 100 records? If not, how do I check that? The reason why I am asking this is that the file size of this .sdf with 100 records is still the same as the initial .sdf with only 3 records. How is this possible?
Am I missing anything or getting some concepts wrong? Please enlighten. Thanks.
I have a single table that consist of 4 columns. Entity, ParamName, ParamsValue and ParamiValue. This table stores normalized Late Fee related parameters for apartments. The Entity field contains a code that identifies the apartment complex. The ParamName in a textual field that contains the name of the parameter that the other 2 fields define the value for; ParamsValue and ParamiValue. If the Late Fee parameter (as named in ParamName is something numerical then the value for that parameter can be found in ParamiValue else its in ParamsValue.
I don't know if 'Pivot' is the correct term to use for describing what I am trying to do because I've looked at the Pivot examples and I don't see how that will work for this. Using the Table and data as provided below, how would I construct a query so that I get 1 row per Entity in which the columns are the ParamsValue or ParamiValue for the ParamName listed in the column header (for the query)?
