Error: 25 - Connection String Is Not Valid -- HELP Please!
Jul 25, 2006
I have been having a problem trying to connect to a SQL Server. I have installed the Developer edition on an MS Small Business edition 2003 server
I also installed MS Sql Manager and I was able to create a database and connect to it. The database server is in the same PC. I used the surface configuration to enable remote connections using TCP /IP and pipe lines.
My application runs without a problem on my development machine but when I deployed on this server I get the provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 25 - Connection string is not valid Error.
this is my config file setup
<connectionStrings>
<add name="Diamond_dbConnectionString" connectionString="Data Source=192.168.1.104MSSQLSERVER;Initial Catalog=Diamond_db;Integrated Security=True"
providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />
</connectionStrings>
I have google and yahoo this error I found a lot of information I've tried many of them but still having the problem. I will appreciate your help solving this problem. I have a customer waiting since last week to see this site and I'm still stuck.
Tia
Charles

hi all, i'm trying to insert the time/date a button was clicked on a gridview and it generates an error:the string was not recognized as a valid DateTime.There is an unknown word starting at index 0 i have changed the culture to en-US but it still doesn't work. i actually created the date/time column after some data had been entered into the table so the column allows nulls. this is my code:InsertCommand="INSERT INTO test101(Surname,Names,Registration,Login Time)VALUES (@Surname, @Names, @Registration,@Login_Time)"<Insert Parameters><asp:Parameter DefaultValue= DateTime.Now Type=DateTime Name="Login_Time" /></Insert Parameters>any suggestions?

Hi Champs,
Scenario Configuration : VB.net 2005 Code, WebService for Executing SSIS on Server, SSIS deployed on the Database Server
Problem Description : We are developing windows applicaiton in which we call webservice which was deployed on the same server where SSIS packages are deployed.
Now from Code we are passing FilePath name in variable and execute the Package. But the SSis result says that
The file name "\computernamefol1fol2fol3fol4abc.txt" specified in the connection was not valid.
More Information:
1. Full Permission are given on this network folder.
2. Package executes successfully from SSIS development solution (BIS solution)
3. Deployed packed executes successfully from the Database Server.
4. From Development pc packege executes successfully.
5. Other packages deployed on the same server executed suucessfully with same configuration and scenario.
Only this package is not executing.
-- the only differece with this package with other is -
using ".txt" extension in Flat file connection and using VB Script task
Can any one suggest the appropirate solution for this problem...
Thanks

Now you all must admit that, if your somewhat new to this databasing, It's a ***.
The source for my application is Visual Web Designer 2005 Express
It is an ASP.Net driven site with membership roles and all the good stuff.
the latest theory is that I need to change the provider config in the web.config file from AspNetSqlProvider
to something else. Most of my complications and frustrations come from GoDaddy and no access to the
shared server (understandibly).
I hope I gave enough info for help and not too much..

OK - I have seen lots posted on this, but the behavior is very strange, and I am trying to understand:
I am using Visual Basic 2003 with SQLEXPRESS 2005 to connect to a database and to develop a desktop application. My connection string is:
Conn_Str = "Data Source=.SQLExpress;AttachDbFilename=" & _
Directory.GetCurrentDirectory & "CWW.mdf;" & _
"Trusted_Connection=Yes;"
I get the following error:
"An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file C:Documents and SettingsBrianMy DocumentsCompressor Program DevelopmentinCWW.mdf failed. A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share."
However, if I copy the database to anywhere else on the "c:" drive, the connection works, as in the following:
Conn_Str = "Data Source=.SQLExpress;AttachDbFilename=" & _
"C: empCWW.mdf;" & _
"Trusted_Connection=Yes;"
What I have found is that ist works everywhere on my computer except in the following location:
"c:documents and settingsBrian", which includes My Documents, Desktop folders.
Why is this??
Any help would be great - I can work around this by moving my development folder to the "c:" drive. Since my ultimate application directory will be the "Program Files" directory I should be fine.

Hi,I am getting this error: String was not recognized as a valid DateTime.I'm trying to insert data into a table from a gridview, where two of the dates can be empty strings.I have set 'allow null' in the SQL Server table for the two dates, added the culture in the web.config file, and even tried converting the values to DBNull.None of which have worked, and I am still getting the error.This is the code I am using: if (e.CommandName == "EmptyInsert")
{
if (Page.IsValid == true)
{
TextBox txtVisitDateIns = GridView2.Controls[0].Controls[0].FindControl("txtVisitDateIns") as TextBox;
TextBox txtNextVisitDateIns = GridView2.Controls[0].Controls[0].FindControl("txtNextVisitDateIns") as TextBox;
TextBox txtVisitedByIns = GridView2.Controls[0].Controls[0].FindControl("txtVisitedByIns") as TextBox;
DropDownList ddlPriorityIns = GridView2.Controls[0].Controls[0].FindControl("ddlPriorityIns") as DropDownList;
TextBox txtMailshotDateIns = GridView2.Controls[0].Controls[0].FindControl("txtMailshotDateIns") as TextBox;
if (txtNextVisitDateIns.Text == "")
txtNextVisitDateIns.Text = DBNull.Value.ToString();
if (txtMailshotDateIns.Text == "")
txtMailshotDateIns.Text = DBNull.Value.ToString();

visits.AddVisit(Convert.ToInt32(GridView1.SelectedValue.ToString()), Convert.ToDateTime(txtVisitDateIns.Text.ToString()),

Convert.ToInt32(ddlPriorityIns.SelectedValue.ToString()), Convert.ToDateTime(txtMailshotDateIns.Text.ToString()));
GridView2.DataBind();
}
} I haven't checked txtVisitDateIns to see if it is an empty string as this date is required.Can anyone help?Thanks

I am passing a string to my stored procedure call where I convert it to a DateTime. I have pasted the relevant code below. My trouble is that prior to execution of the stored procedure an error is thrown "String was not recognized as a valid DateTime".
The error does not get thrown when I pass it a date, it only throws it when no date is provided.
The page I am using is a form to do a search. The search can allow a date to be entered or left out. How do I catch an empty value in the c# for an invalid datetime and still send the variable to the stored procedure.

Hi;
Installed MSDE on computer by running:
c:setup INSTANCENAME="VSdotNET" SAPWD="PASSWORD" SECURITYMODE=SQL
REBOOTED AND sql SERVER iCON APPEARS on the lower desktop Icon bar, open it and it says:
Server: JOHN Servises: SQL Server Running \JOHN - MSSQLServer
opened a command prompt at c: and
entered osql -S JOHN -U sa -P password
and got the 1> reply on the next line
I typed EXIT
I had downloaded two scripts that create Pubs and Northwind SQL databases. I put them in the C: folder
I Typed at c:osql -E -i instpubs.sql
It created the pubs SQL database for me
I Typed at c:osql -E -i instnwinds.sql
It created the nwinds SQL database for me
I closed the command prompt and
went to the Administrator Tools in the Control Panel
I selected Data OLEDB Selected ADD entered Pubs and used default values for Pubs to create a connection Tested it OK
Then went and ran Visual Studio Net 2003
Checked to see if the pubs and northwind SQL databases where present in the Server Explorer drop down window.
I seleced the connect to database Icon and in it's Data Link Properties
I entered JOHN for server name
pubs for selected database on the server
with Provider as MS OLEDB for SQL Service
the Icon changed to connected.
I entered this in the code for page_load
Dim MyDS As New DataSet
Dim ConnStr As String
Dim SQL As String
ConnStr = "server=(local)C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQLData;database=pubs;Trusted_Connection=yes"
SQL = "SELECT * FROM Titles " & _
"SELECT * FROM Publishers"
Dim MySqlConn As New SqlConnection(ConnStr)
Dim MySqlAdapter As New SqlDataAdapter(SQL, ConnStr)
'The SqlDataAdapter will automatically open and
'close the SqlConnection
MySqlAdapter.Fill(MyDS)
But I can not get this to work it errors out on line:
MySQLAdapter.Fill(myDS)
with: [SqlException (0x80131904): Unknown ProviderError Locating Server/Instance Specified ]
System.Data.ProviderBase.DbConnectionPool.GetConnection(Object owningObject) +317
I change ConnStr to this:
ConnStr = "server=(local)data;database=pubs; uid=sa; Pwd=password" & _
"Trusted_Connection=true"
and get this error:
[SqlException (0x80131904): Shared Memory Provider: The system cannot find the file specified.
]
System.Data.ProviderBase.DbConnectionPool.GetConnection(Object owningObject) +317
I've tried so many combination with and without user and password, I just don't get it, spent three long days stuck here, can someone help me out.
Note:
C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQLData
Is the accual location on my machine that pubs database is located.
I can use the pubs SQL database in Web Matrix OK.
Thanks

'conn info
Const localConnectionString As String = "Data Source = TestDB.sdf"
Const serverConnectionString As String = "Server=myserver;database=BoxDB;Integrated Security=True;"
Sub CreateUploadOnlyTable()
Dim rda As SqlCeRemoteDataAccess = Nothing
Try
rda = New SqlCeRemoteDataAccess()
rda.LocalConnectionString = localConnectionString
rda.InternetUrl = "http://myserver/BoxCE/sqlcesa30.dll"
rda.Pull("temp_Swipes", "SELECT * FROM Swipes WHERE 1 = 0", serverConnectionString, RdaTrackOption.TrackingOnWithIndexes, "Swipe_Errors")
Catch ex As Exception
MsgBox(ex.ToString)
SaveTextToFile(ex.ToString, "CreateUploadOnlyTable.txt", "RDA Error!")
Finally
rda.dispose()
End Try
End Sub
when i try to run it on my CE device i get an error which i have no idea about and can't resolve via google'ing.
"multiple-step OLE DB operation generated errors. Check each OLE DB status value, if available. no work was done"
My aim here is just a basic Pull (but containing no data hence the 'WHERE 1=0')
Any answers to this error? is it my conn string? i did have conn string errors earlier and am guessing they are linked.

Hi,
I got this error report "The string was not recognized as a valid DateTime. There is a unknown word starting at index 0." at this line of code in BOLD.
For some reasons the datetime format in the database has the (US datetime format - 05/02/2008 06:40 instead of United Kingdom (UK date time format - 02/05/2008 06:40), as I had planned. I have tried to reformat the database and VB date format and all to no success.Could this be the root of my problems?
Code Snippet
Public Class Form1
Public Class Form1
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
If con.State = ConnectionState.Open Then con.Close()
con.Open()
cmd = New SqlCommand("SELECT REM_NOTE, REM_DATE FROM dbo.MY_CONTACTS", con)
Dim sdr As SqlDataReader = cmd.ExecuteReader
While sdr.HasRows = True
Dim newAlert As New Alert(Reminder_data_reader("REM_NOTE").ToString(), DateTime.Parse(Reminder_data_reader("REM_DATE").ToString()))
Me.collectionOfAlerts.Add(newAlert)
End If
End While
sdr.Close()

I have a table with one of the column(EmpHiredate) datatype is char(10). It has value like "20141023". I need to display this value as date format(dd/mm/yyyy) in report. Following methods i tried in textbox expression but no luck.
=Format(Fields!EmpHireDate.Value,"dd/MM/yyyy")
=Cdate(Fields!EmpHireDate.Value)
Error:[rsRuntimeErrorInExpression] The Value expression for the textrun ‘EmpHireDate.Paragraphs[0].TextRuns[0]’ contains an error: Conversion from string "20041023  " to type 'Date' is not valid.
Is it possible to convert string to date using SSRS textbox expression ?

I added a connection (ADO.NET) object by name testCon in the connection manager - I wanted to programmatically supply the connection string. So I used the "Expressions" property of the connection object and set the connectionstring to one DTS variable. The idea is to supply the connection string value to the variable - so that the connection object uses my connection string.
Then I added a "Backup Database Task" to my package with the name BkpTask. Now whenever I try to set the connection property of BkpTask to the testCon connection object, by typing testCon, it automatically gets cleared. I am not able to set the connection value.
Then after spending several hours I found that this is because I have customized the connection string in testCon. If I don't customize the connection string, I am able to enter the "testCon" value in the connection property of the BkpTask.
Is this an intrinsic issue?

Greetings,
I have an SSIS package that I need to modify. It was developed in Visual Studio 2005 and runs faithfully in production on SQL Server 2005. Suddenly, I can't open the package on my own workstation. I see a big red "X" image and a message stating "Microsoft Visual Studio is unable to load this document." The real reason the document can't be loaded appears to be:
Error loading DataWarehouseLoader.dtsx: The connection type "OLEDB" specified for connection manager "Warehouse Logging OLE DB" is not recognized as a valid connection manager type. This error is returned when an attempt is made to create a connection manager for an unknown connection type. Check the spelling in the connection type name.
Does anyone know what causes this and what I can do? The package has been in production for 9 months and I've never seen this problem before.
Thanks,
BCB

I have a query that is coming back with all my rows from an "IN" where condition. The problem is that the query in the sub-query is invalid.
I can't recreate it exactly but in the sample here, I don't get any rows back (not sure why they are different) but why am I not getting an error?
IF OBJECT_ID('tempdb..#temp1') IS NOT NULL
DROP TABLE #temp1
IF OBJECT_ID('tempdb..#temp2') IS NOT NULL
DROP TABLE #temp2
CREATE TABLE #temp1
[Code] ...
The "SELECT LastName FROM #temp2" subquery is invalid and if you run it by itself you do get the error.
So why no error when this runs.
The other query is:
SELECT *
FROM Staging ves
WHERE ves.ssn IN ( SELECT ssn
FROM Employee )
There is no "ssn" in the Employee table (it is in a different table), I get 12,000 records back from Staging.
Why would that be the case?

I want to set a Report Parameter on a field. The Report Parameter is called 'filter'. In the statement I put the Report Parameter in the WHERE-part:
WHERE ([DatabaseName$TableName].[FieldName] = @filter). After this I set the 'Available values' on the Report Parameter in the lay-out to Non-queried.
When the report is running, no problems.
But.....
Now I want to set 'Available values' on 'From Query' and refer to the data set, so the user can choose on which value he want to filter. But now, after running the preview the following error displays:
Error 1 [rsInvalidReportParameterDependency] The report parameter €˜filter€™ has a DefaultValue or a ValidValue that depends on the report parameter €œfilter€?. Forward dependencies are not valid.
Why can't I set the Report Parameter to 'From Query'? Anyone any suggestions???
(you can see the rest of my statement here: http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=1098540&SiteID=1)
Thx a lot of helping me out with this topic.....
