as i said i'm using a sql server 2005 sp2. i tried the scripted method when i did not have sp2 in sql server and it worked without a problem. after installing sp2 it seems it does not want to work anymore. i also tied making a backup of a sql server 2005 database, deleting the database and restoring it and it worked again.
I'm using shared sql space on a new provider and am trying to import a database backup file - of the format filename.db.
I cannot figure out how to import this file type using the 2005 express tools - I can connect to the database and create and drop tables alright, but I cannot just import the existing database.
I really haven't got the time on my connection to download the fully blown SQL server trial to be able to do this, so can anyone help me out with any easier solutions?

Data for Source Column 15 'Notes' is too large for the specified buffer size. How do I get around this, I can see some of the notes entries are beyond 255 chars so I changed the destination datatype to textI have never seen this error when importing before. What do I do?
While importing into sql server 2000 from a text file i am getting an error message like not enough disk space available to perform this operation but there is enough space (around 18gb). Please advice why this is happenning as my work is stuck

Can anyone please tell how to take backup of my Data, and Restore also. Thanks in advance,Ashok kumar.
I want to restore a backup of a SQL Server 2000 database to SQL Server 2005. Would I need to do anything after running the restore to upgrade the database?
I have schedule backup job from SQL Server 2000 to Tape. Each Jobs consist of 4 steps which backup different database.
Sometimes I encounter problem. The Message is
Executed as user:dbo. The file on device '\.Tape0' is not a valid Microsoft Tape Format backup set. [SQLSTATE 42000] (Error 3242) BACKUP DATABASE is terminating abnormally. [SQLSTATE 42000] (Error 3013). The step failed.
There is no problem at the command, as it will run normally when i manually trigger the schedule job. Sometimes the error occur only after few days the job run.

Also I can't seem to find out how to delete them either?! I can see the data sotred in the dtspackages90 table but how do I edit/get rid of them.

I have tried to Attach Database or attach this backup file in Sql Server2005 but it also fails . First I have created New database name as is on the backupfile and then I have also tried to rename this file with .bak extension and then try to restore again it fails. Plese Guide me urgently........
This is a very urgent requirement of my client having 200 stores and one Head office. the HO has just installed SQL-Server 2005, The HO sends small backups of the data related to stock transfer which needs to be restored at stores. It was working find when both the HO and stores were SQL-Server 2000. but the process has come to a dead halt as the HO has SQL-Server 2005. It is not possible to convert the stores immediately. please help me out.
I was running Small Business Server 2003 with MS SQL Server 2000. I put backups of all my SQL Server 2000 databases on hard disk d: and the operating system and applications on c:/. I then reformatted c:/ (but left d:/ intact) and installed Windows XP Home. Then I installed MS SQL Server 2005 Developer's Edition.
I would like to now restore the backups of the SQL Server 2000 databases (still intact on drive d:/) to SQL Server 2005, but I get a variety of error messages.
I suspect that I am going about this the wrong way. I have done several hours of research in the documentation without success. I cannot attach the SQL Server 2000 database to SQL Server 2005 because it is a backup, not a database. I cannot migrate the databases as part of the installation of SQL Server 2005 because (a) they are back-ups, and (b) I don't have SQL Server 2000 installed when I install SQL Server 2005.
I am attempting to move some SQL 2000 databases to SQL 2005. My main production database does not seem to want to move. When I use the SQL 2005 GUI the .bak backup file is marked 'Incomplete'. When I attempt to restore the backup file I get a 'RESTORE detected an error on page (0:0) in database' message. I saw a thread in the SQL Express forum suggesting trying to restore from the T-SQL level to get the GUI out of the picture and I get the same 'error on page (0:0)' message. However when I take the same file and use SQL 2000 Enterprise Manager it restores with no problems.
when i try to import data from Microsot Access to Microsoft OLDB DB Provider in the "DTS Import/Export wizard", an error occurs: Error Description: [DBNETLIB][ConectionOpen (Connect()).] SQL Server doesnt exist or the access was denied. I'm using windows autentication and the data base of destination is <default>.
A full database backup file was created and placed in my C:Program filesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLBackup folder. In attempting to restore the file using "Restore Database", I get the following error: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlError: Directory lookup for the file "d:Microsoft SQL ServerMSSQLdataworkspace.mdf" failed with the operating system error 3 (The system could not find the file path specified.).
I have one column in SQL Server 2005 of data type VARCHAR(4000).
I have imported sql Server 2005 database data into one mdb file. After importing a data into the mdb file, above column data type converted into the memo type in the Access database.
now when I am trying to import a data from this MS Access File(db1.mdb) into the another SQL Server 2005 database, got the error of Unicode Converting a memo data type conversion in Export/Import data wizard.
Could you please let me know what is the reason?
I know that memo data type does not supported into the SQl Server 2005.
I am with SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition with SP2.
Please help me to understans this issue correctly?
I have 2 different servers that run nightly backup jobs to a network drive using the UNC format. I am noticing the larger databases encountering the following errors on a regular basis
Error: 18210, Severity: 16, State: 1. '\fnfssql3SQLBackupsMNSQL05<database>.BAK'. Operating system error 64(The specified network name is no longer available.). BACKUP failed to complete the command BACKUP DATABASE <database>. Check the backup application log for detailed messages.
There are 5 databases on this server all backed up by the same job and 3 of them wortk fine and 2 of them fail so it is not a permissions problem. Have there been any problems with backing up to a network drive in 2005?
I would like to ask you if there is better to recreate database structure on 2005 from 2000 and move data or to just load 2000 backup.
Currently I loaded the backup, but I am wondering if there might be slightly better performance on 2005 when recreating structure on 2005 to loading 2000 backup?
Does loading 2000 backup create 2005 binary structure?
Windows 2003 backup utility uses the shadow copy option that allows it to copy open files. Therefore, can I use this utility to backup the .mdf and .ldf files for my SQL 2000 database? I can then attach the .mdf files if I need to restore the database to another server. Can anyone tell me if this is safe? I've tried it and it worked but I'm worried there maybe some lurking danger in using this approach.
I am trying to import records form ACT! to an SQL Server Database. I can import all the records except for the linked tables (notes/ history, etc.) any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!!
I'm new to using VS2005 and this is my first project connecting to our MS SQL 2000. App worked fine on my dev PC, connection to the same MS SQL Server. Published the web site to the web server (same server running MS SQL Server) and getting the below error. Hi, Here is the syntax of the connection string within the web.config file:<connectionStrings><clear /> <add name="MyConnectionString" connectionString="Data Source=000.000.000;Initial Catalog=Database Name;Persist Security Info=True;User ID=XXXXXX;Password=XXXXXX;" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" /> </connectionStrings> The test page has a GridView in it which uses the connectionstring fron the web.config file. I have an existing sql server 2000 installation on one server. I now need to take one 2000 DB and restore it to a new sql server 2005 installation (on a different server).
What is the best way to do this. I can not upgrade the sql server 2000 installation to 2005. Basically i hoping all i need to do is backup the 2000 db and then restore it on the new sql 2005 server.
