Mining Models Accuracy

May 10, 2007

Hello

I've created models with Decision Tree and Neural Network algorithms that predict continous target. But I don't know how to interpret scores that occure under scatter accuracy plot. How should I interpret scores under scatter accuracy plot?
How can I estimate occuracy of model created with Time Series? How can I compare accuracy of model created with Time Series with models created with Decision Trees and Neural Network algorithms?

Thanks in advance.

Infromation About Accuracy Of The Mining Model Problem

Dec 23, 2005

Hello!

I have a problem getting information about accuracy (percentage of the right predictions) of the model using DMX. Is it possible to get information about accuracy of the model using DMX? I didn't find any useful function... My second idea was to build and process the model. And then compare states of the predictable columns of the test data to states that the model predicts on the same data. And count them. That would be the way to get percantage of the right predictions... The problem is that usage of the function COUNT is not allowed??? I tried:SELECT COUNT(*) FROM [My Model Name].Cases and it didn't work like in standard SQL...
Is it possible to count rows in DMX? Any idea how to get accuracy (percentage) of the model? I would need this information in my application...
Thanx for any idea,
Ziga

In the Mining Accuracy Chart, the predictable columns of nested tables does not show up in the "Select predictable mining model columns to show in the lift chart" table. The "Predictable column name" is empty.

Predictable columns in the case table shows up, but not the predictable columns in the nested table. What am I missing?

Where Can I Store The Mining Results From Mining Models In SQL Server 2005 Data Mining Engine?

Apr 26, 2006

Hi, all here,

I am wondering where can I store my mining results in data mining engine? For example, I got mining results like accuracy chart, decision trees, and other formats of results based on different mining algorithms I used for my data mining, so where can I actually store the results for reporting service use later? Is it possible to do that in SQL Server 2005?

Thanks a lot for any help and guidance in advance.

Data Mining - Scalar Mining Structure Column Data Type Error...

May 31, 2006

Hoping someone will have a solution for this error

Errors in the metadata manager. The data type of the '~CaseDetail ~MG-Fact Voic~6' measure must be the same as its source data type. This is because the aggregate function is not set to count or distinct count.

Is the problem due to the data type of the column used in the mining structure is Long, and the underlying field in the cube has a type of BigInt,or am I barking up the wrong tree?

Prediction Accuracy

Mar 5, 2007

Hi ,
I am a novice Data Mining Programmer.
I am using Time series algorithm for forecasting.
We are Quite concerned about the accuracy of Prediction output.
For Example Our Data is like this

StudId Date Perf
001 01/01/2001 90
001 02/01/2001 89
001 03/01/2001 87
002 01/01/2001 59
002 02/01/2001 70
003 03/01/2001 47

If I write my Prediction Query to predict for 100 th time step. Its giving me out put like

Date Perf
03/01/2015 47.000000115

We are not sure about the accuracy of the values. Is it possible to use trend information as input to my model and make my prediction based on that.
I don€™t know how to do that? Can anyone help?

Thanks,
Karthik.

Accuracy Vs Generalization

Apr 15, 2006

Hi!

So sorry for posting yet another one of my silly posts about the correct way of doing things!

I am using Stored Procedures to do various things in my database (inserting/deleting/updating) and using SQL Server 2000 SP4

The current situation is that I have a stored procedure which checks certain user details and returns either -1 or 1 as a success indicator to the caller.

Now, obviously if we executed several queries in this stored procedure, performance will be an issue.

However, I have no idea how to balance up the whole "more useful information" vs "general information". What I mean is this:

if we are checking 3 items in a table, I want to return the success value back to the caller - in this case, we could do an IF statement to see if the record exists, if it does, set the return value to 1, else, -1.

But then you may want to be more informative to the user, specifically stating what part of the information they entered is incorrect/invalid. So having this in mind, we would then need to execute, say, 3 queries to return a more specific "error" value.

What should I do in this case?

I want to check the username, password and if the account is activated.

Currently I have this query going on:

IF EXISTS (SELECT [ID] FROM Users WHERE username = @un AND [password] = @pw AND activate = 1)

SET @theResult = 1

ELSE

SET @theResult = -1

firstly, is that the good way of doing things? if not - then what is the better way?

secondly, if we decide that we want a specific detailed return value/error message, it would mean I have to check the results I want using a couple more queries, such as one query to check username, one query to check password and another to check if the account is active or not and then return the appropriate value back to the caller.

is this a good way of doing things? I am confused and stuck!

Many thanks for your valuable response :)

I am given a task to test a complex stored procedure that has been recently modified for performance. The stored procedure runs 2 processes based on different parameters provided to it in real time. The procedure has been modified to incresease its performance from 22hours to just 1 minute. One of the two processes that this SP handels have been tested and is thus very accurate. The testing of 2nd process is given to me and I am looking for some great help in how to go about testing it step by step. I can provide more info on the SP and how we increased its performance, if you are interested.

How Is The 'Score' Value Derived In The Lift Chart/Mining Legend For Data Mining Models?

Sep 26, 2006

Hi,
I have just run a simple data set through a model to predict a simple true or false value (i.e. binary output)
The Lift Chart/Mining Legend in Analysis Services shows three results €“ Score, Population Correct (%), and Predict Probability (%)

Population Correct I beleive is the percentage of predictions it got right out of the total number of predictions it tried to make. Is this correct?

However, I can€™t work out how the other two are derived in particular the 'SCORE'. To give a live example the scores were as follows:

Model Score Pop Correct Pred Probability
Decision Trees 0.83 76.59% 54.28%
Neural Network 0.75 67.63% 50.05%
Ideal Model 100.00%

Can anyone help with this and give a detailed explanation?

Many thanks,

Excel 2007 Data Mining Add-in Advance Create Mining Model Question

Apr 11, 2007

Hi,

I am trying to model data in analysis services with the Advance Create Mining Model function in the excel addin. I am having trouble creating an association model that works like the Associate button above the Advanced button.

The format of my data is like this

OrderID Product

100 Bike

100 Helmet

100 Shoes

200 Helmet

200 basketball

200 Bat

300 Shoes

300 Socks

The associate button works perfectly since it asks me which column is the transaction id (orderid) and which column I am trying to predict (product). The advanced create mining model asks me to determine what the columns are...

OrderID=key Product=Input+Predict?

When I run the advance create mining model associate, I get a browser that gives me no rules and the support for only one item itemset (each product but no combination of products).

Does anyone know what I have to do to get it to work like the associate button?

Create Mining Structure And Mining Model With Code

Oct 20, 2006

Thank you very much for your help.
The errors that I can see in the code that you gave in your answer are the following and they are more or less the same as I had previously

I tried the code but initially I have encounter the following problems.

1. In any line that have the declaration As Server, As Database like in
Public Function CreateDatabase(ByVal srv As Server, ByVal databaseName As String) As Database gives me the problem that type Database is not declared the same type Server is not declared and it does not give me any option.

2. In addition to that for As DataSource, As RelationalDataSource, As RelationalDataSourceView, As ScalarMiningStructureColumn, As DataSourceViewBinding, gives me the problem that type is not declared.

3. Finally in mc = New MiningModelColumn("Yearly income", Utils.GetSyntacticallyValidID("Yearly income", Type.GetType(MiningModelColumn))) is not accesible in this context because it is 'Private'.
I have some more problems but I thing that by solving the above that I referred I will solve the rest.

Thank you any way.

Data-mining Model Process-error

May 29, 2006

I am trying to write some DMX queries to create and populate a mining model as a SSMS analysis services project. I followed the following steps:

1. Create the mining model using a CREATE MINING MODEL ... query.

2. Followed by the - INSERT INTO MINING MODEL ... query, which fetches prediction data from another mining model to populate the mining model.

3. I now want to use this new model for prediction, which requires processing the mining model first. When I process the model, it throws the following error:

Error (Data mining): The 'XYZ_Structure' structure does not contain bindings to data (or contains bindings that are not valid) and cannot be processed.

Please suggest if I am making a mistake in the above procedure. I will appreciate all help in overcoming this issue.

Auxilliary question: How do I process the mining model programmatically?

Error When Training Mining Model. Column Name Seems Can't Be Recognized

Dear All, I have a simple mining structure created by the DMX statement below. Then I tried to insert some data with MDX language by extracting data in OLAP. But I got the following error when I execute the insert statement.

Errors in the high-level relational engine. The 'Customer ID' column in the RELATES clause was not found in the results of the OPENROWSET query.

It seems that the append statement can't really recognize the name of the column which should be Customer ID.

How can I fix this problem?

[Error Loading Mining Model Metadata: Not Connected.]

Dec 13, 2007

This has been driving me mad for several days. I have setup SQL Server 2005 Express (SP2) on a box. I have SQL Server Management Studio (9.00.3042.00) installed on a client box. I can connect to the 2005 server and created a test database on the machine. But when I try to open a query on the database, I always get the above error message "[Error loading mining model metadata: Not connected.]" in the LHS pane and the query window remains unconnected. If I try to connect (by clicking on the connect button) I get a login screen for Analysis Services, but I don't have Analysis Services running on any boxes. The login screen doesn't allow me to change anything other than Server Name. This happens even if I open a new Database Engine Query through the File/New menu.

All I want to do to execute a query against my database. I don't want to use Analysis Services. What am I doing wrong? I have almost the exact same setup at home and it works fine.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Excel Data Mining Add-In Query Wizard Error Message

May 1, 2007

Hello Experts,

I have an error message I was wondering if anyone else has seen and resolved. When I open excel and click on the query wizard on the Data Mining Ribbon, I get an error message that says "Input String not in Correct Format"

After I close this dialog box the 'Welcome to Query .... ' wizard will open, but when I select the Advance button my process aborts due to the input string error.

I have only ran association models on the computer.

The Manage Models and Browse buttons work fine.

The error came up on Friday, but it wasn't there on Thursday. There were no changes done to the machine (no installation of new software).

I have tried reinstalling the add-in.

Thank you all for your help,

Davy

I have pasted the SQL syntax below that I get from the error dialog box after the query wizard closes.

See the end of this message for details on invoking

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

Assocation Rules Mining Model : SqlDecimal Datatype Error

Dec 4, 2007

Hello Everyone. I am a newbie to data mining. I hope that you can help.

I have run the same data mining query against the Decision Tree, Logistical Regession, Neural Network and Assocation Rules mining models. I created seperate tables to contain the results of each of these models. All of the tables have the same structure. The structure is a col#1 with a bigint datatype and col#2 with a numeric(5,5) datatype. All of the models have been successful with outputing the data to their respective tables except the Association Rules model. I am receiving the following error: " Failed to execute data mining query due to the following error: The given value of type SqlDecimal from the data source cannot be converted to type decimal of the specified target column." Is there something special that I need to do with my dmx statement to get the sqldecimal data to insert into the numeric column? What is different about the Association Rules model? I rechecked my dmx statement and it is the same for other models.

Let me know if you need more information.

Thanks

Error On Custom Data Mining Plugin: Content Type Mismatch

Jan 11, 2007

Good afternoon,

I'm doing a custom clustering plugin for text to pre-process ("clean" the texts), calculate weights, estimate the number of clusters (using the PBM index) and finally, do the actual clustering.

So... I've made each of these modules on C++ and I'm putting them all togheter on the plugin.

My database (MDB file) has only one table, with only two fields within: a key (auto-incremental) and a small text. What I intend to do is to get the text in each test case, store them togheter somewhere and call my classes to cluster these texts.

I'm trying to log the texts in a file (just a test) on the ProcessCase method, in the CaseProcessor class. I've did it with no problems with numerical data.

But when I load the MDB file on the Mining Structures Wizard, it says the content type of the field holding the texts is "Continous" and the data type is "Text". Actually, when I saw it I didn't really mind.

But when I run the mining model it gives me the following error: "Error 1 Error (Data mining): The data type of the Table1.Texto mining structure column must be numeric since it has a continuous content type (Content is set to Continuous or Key Time or Key Sequence). 0 0 "

So... How do I change this content type ? (the content type combobox on the Mining Structures Wizard couldn't the changed)

Can anyone help me on this, please ?

Thanks a lot.
