Error When Changing Published Article At The Subscriber

Mar 9, 2006

Hi

Using merge replication - the stored procs are published articles.

When trying to change the article at the subscriber (sql express) I get the following errors:

Msg 21531, Level 16, State 1, Procedure sp_MSmerge_alterschemaonly, Line 45
The DDL statement cannot be performed at the Subscriber or Republisher.

Msg 21530, Level 16, State 1, Procedure sp_MSmerge_ddldispatcher, Line 181
The DDL operation failed inside merge DDL replication manipulation.

Msg 3609, Level 16, State 2, Procedure usp_Anniversary_upd, Line 21
The transaction ended in the trigger. The batch has been aborted.

Does this mean it can only be changed at the publisher ?

How To Add Tabls To Published Article Without Recreating Snapshot?

Jan 26, 2007

Hi experts:

We have 4 SQL SERVER 2000 servers linked via replication, and due to business changes we have to add one table to the published databases. And the existed database has more than 20g, recreating the snapshot and re-init replication is not allowed as the business cannot be stopped more than 1 hour. So my question is how to add tables to the published article without recreating the snapshot?

By that is not possilbe, can we publish one new article on the same database?

Thanks in advance!

Add A Column To Published Table Without Replicating To Subscriber

May 25, 2006

I would like to add a column to a published table but not have that column replicated to subscribers. I can accomplish this via the UI by adding the column and then unchecking it. This adds the column to the publisher table but does not replicate it to the subscriber.

I am looking for a programmatic method to add a column to the base table and unmark it for replication.

Thanks for your assistance.

Error While Changing Custom Resolver Between 2005 Publisher And 2000 Subscriber

Sep 25, 2007

Hi all,

here is the context of our problem:

- Publisher :

version SQL Server 2005 SP2
table in SQL Server 2000 (80) compatibility level
publication in SQL Server 2000 compatibility level
- Distributor : SQL Server 2005 SP2
- Subscriber : SQL Server 2000 SP4 + hotfixes (version 8.00.2187)

There is only one article in our publication (a simple table with a GUID and a nvarchar(50) columns), and we have left the default resolver.

1 - The first synchronization of the subscription is successfully completed, and it is the same for the different updates/inserts/deletes or conflicts.

2 - Then we change the Resolver of our article by our own COM-Based Custom Resolver (developped in C# 2.0). This resolver only change the default behaviour: the subscriber always win (this is for a test, in the future we will have a complex business logic). All the synchronizations works fine and do what we want in the conflicts.

3 - We rollback the resolver to the default one... and here is the problem!
The synchonizations stop to work correctly. For all of them we've got the same error:

SQL 2012 :: Cannot Get New Table / Article In Publication To Show Up At Subscriber

Jan 22, 2015

I do not understand why I have this issue.

SQL 2012 SP2, Transactional Replication.

I have added a new table to a database (existing publication) using T-SQL, I then opened up publisher properties, and ticked the new table/article so that it would be added to the subscriber. It did not show up.

I did not use a snapshot to initialize the subscription.

Immediate Synch is 0.
allow_anonymous is 0.

I mark the subscription to be reinitialized. When I start the snapshot agent I get '0% A snapshot was not generated because no subscriptions needed initialization'.

What could I be doing wrong, or missed out? Do I need to drop and recreate the subscription to get the article to show up?

Changing The DATATYPE Of A PUBLISHED COLUMN

Oct 27, 2003

Hi guys,

Is there any way or method to CHANGE the DATATYPE of a column in a published table being used for transactional replication (MSSQL 2000), WITHOUT DROPPING THE SUBSCRIPTION ????

Im stuck in this mess and do have the option to drop the subscription, alter the table, create the subscription and rerun the snapshot or to recreate it by Manual Synchronisation either.

Can anyone help? Has anyone been across this dilemma before and have troubleshooted the problem? If yes, help is much appreciated.

MY PROBLEM:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
'MyTable' is currently being published and has subscriptions to it. The PRIMARY KEY column 'id' has an Identity property as well. 'id' is of datatype smallint, however because of bad planning, i now need to change that datatype to an integer to support a larger range WITHOUT DROPPING SUBSCRIPTIONS.
I CANT DROP THE COLUMN EITHER AS IT IS BEING THE PRIMARY KEY COLUMN.
IS THERE ANY OTHER WAY I CAN DO TO ARCHIEVE MY GOAL? THANKYOU.
Changing Article Properties Without A New Snapshot
Jan 17, 2007
In our replication environment, the subscriber is initially set up with an snapshot of the publisher database. However, after that, the subscriber and publisher are different and we can never re-initialize from a snapshot again (we purge data on the publisher to reduce the database size but do not purge the same data on the subscriber; we do this by stubbing out the stored procedures on the subscriber that purge data on the publisher).
If an article is added or dropped from the publication, using snapshot and synchronize, just these changes are propagated to the publisher (without an entire new snapshot).
However, if an Article Property is changed (change SCALL to MCALL under Statement Delivery options for the UPDATE statement), the interface REQUIRES an entire new snapshot. Is there any way I can avoid the new Snapshot? It overwrites the subscriber database and this cannot happen!
Subscriber is a datawarehouse so i dont want to put tables coming from a system to go under dbo schema as there might be other application replicating same name tables to warehouse. i have created a schema for my application on warehouse but dont know how to tell replication to create tables under application schema created on subscriber. I am using snapshot replication that can be reinitialized if required.
any help will be appriciated.
Changing Publisher-subscriber Roles On SQL Server 6.5
Sep 14, 1999
Hi Nerds
There are 2 production servers (SQL Server 6.5). One is publisher and the other one is subscriber. Data is replicated from publisher to subscriber which is a transaction based replication. Each day at 8:00PM data comes into publisher and the updations,replication,backup,reporting are carried out till 11:00AM next day. The subscriber server is used as a reporting server and the publishing server is used as the data warehouse server.
I want to cleanup a table on the publisher. Since it is replicated on the subscriber, can I do delete operation on the subscriber, make the subscriber server a publisher and the publisher server a subscriber, do replication from publisher(new) to subscriber(new) and again change publisher to subscriber and subscriber to publisher without affecting the production line of the databases. I have to do this between 11:00AM to 8:00PM.
Report Gives Parameter Error When Published
Nov 14, 2007
I have been working on parameterised reports for quite a while and have a problem with a report that I cannot fathom despite days spent fiddling. I am hoping someone will be able to spot a silly mistake...
Basically, I am developing my report in VS2005 and it works perfectly. When I publish it to the reporting server I get an error: The 'pSite' parameter is missing a value.
I cannot understand why the report should fail when published.
Before anyone says it, yes I have deleted the published report and re-deployed so there should be no chance of any 'old' deployments messing things up!
Any obvious suggestions before I start posting code?!
Thanks all
Merge Replication - Subscriber Error
Apr 20, 2007
Hi,
I have setup merge replication between SQL Server 2005 and SQL Server Express. The setup uses web synchronization. (And the setup uses dynamic filter HOST_NAME)
On some of the client machines, replication fails with the following error (when initializing the subscription):
from subscriber merge agent verbose log:
A dynamic snapshot will be applied from 'D:DOCUME~1JBAUMG~1.CORLOCALS~1TempDB101-EQA-SCL_BQDB_BQ_PUB_BQDB'
Validating dynamic snapshot
2007-04-1819:39:45.434 OLE DB Subscriber 'FRG-BAUMGARTENJSQLEXPRESS': sys.sp_MSregisterdynsnapseqno @snapshot_session_token=N'\XXX.XX.XX.XXSnapshotuncDB101-EQA-SCL_BQDB_BQ_PUB20070417180079dynsnap', @dynsnapseqno='5599F67E-A1A9-4573-A14F-9851F6FE4B51'
(Note: XXX.XX.XX.XX is a proper IP of DB, I have just masked it in the post)
The merge process was unable to deliver the snapshot to the Subscriber. If using Web synchronization, the merge process may have been unable to create or write to the message file.When troubleshooting, restart the synchronization with verbose history logging and specify an output file to which to write.
I enabled verbose logging for the snapshot agent for the subscriber, but there was no error there. It is obvious from the log info above that the error occurs only after downloading the snapshot to the client and during applying it to the subscriber by the merge agent.
After I got this error, I tried running the subscriber program again and it successfully replicated on the third attempt. But this behavior is not consistent and it fails for most of the time on some of the machines
Any info on this error?
SQL Server 2008 :: Error - Row Not Found On Subscriber
Feb 12, 2015
I am getting "Row not found on subscriber" error on the subscriber. I am trying to find the root cause.
1. Records get lost during publication initialization from backup, could not reproduce it though. I was inserting records in a loop into a replicated table while initializing the publication from backup. After the backup/restore finished, I have stopped the insert, allowed the replication to catch up and compared the row count, it was identical.
2. Someone or some process is deleting the records on the subscriber. Setup Audit, but could not confirm this theory so far.
3. Records get deleted twice, as we publish the execution of some bulk delete archive jobs, to fix latency issues. Found this article, which says, this is not the case:
[URL]
4. Records are deleted on the subscriber by triggers. The impacted database has no triggers.
I am running SQL Server 2008 R2.
What else could be the cause of this problem?
URGENT! Error: The Process Could Make A Generation At The 'Subscriber'
Sep 30, 2004
Any help at this stage is welcome!
Due to collation-discrepancies the publisher and subscriber databases have been recreated.
When however I attempt to restart the publishing...SQL gives the message
"The process could not make a generation at the 'Subscriber"
There is enough space on the harddisk of either subscriber or publisher 3Gbyte+
UserRights are ok and I reinitialized the publication.
Everything seems ok and yet I get the error mentionned above.
Can anyone give me some help with this?
Error While Merging Snapshot Containing A CLR Assembly Schema At The Subscriber
Sep 26, 2007
Hi ,
I urgently need a solution for this. I have configured merge replication between a webhoster and a local machine
and it is working perfectly but when I am adding an article (table) which has a CLR assembly associated with it,
the merge replication is failing saying it cannot apply the schema of the CLR assembly at the client. I think Microsoft
supposedly says in it's documentation that merge replication supports CLR assemblies. I have recreated the snapshot
after selecting the table (article) and I have reinitialised the subscription also but it is just not working. It is the simplest
of replication with just one publisher and one subscriber.
Thanks,
Andy
More Efficient Way Than You Have Published
Dec 8, 2004
Sumanesh writes "Recently I read one article “Converting Multiple Rows into a CSV string
(http://www.sqlteam.com/item.asp?ItemID=256)
I have found one easy and more efficient way to achieve the same thing.
First I have a table called test with 2 columns (ID and Data)
And some data inserted into it.
CREATE FUNCTION [dbo].CombineData(@ID SMALLINT)
RETURNS VARCHAR(2000)
AS
BEGIN
DECLARE @Data VARCHAR(2000)
SET @Data = ''
SELECT @Data = @Data + Data + ',' FROM Test WHERE ID = @ID
RETURN LEFT(@Data,LEN(@Data)-1)
END
GO
Then used a simple select query to achieve the same
SELECT DISTINCT ID, [dbo].CombineData(ID) FROM Test
Which achieved the same thing without using any temporary tables and Cursors. I am sure that you will accept that this is more efficient than the one that has been published.
"The Database could not be exclusively locked to perform the operation. ALTER DATABASE failed. The default collation of database 'nutri93' cannot be set to SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS."
I have tried SQL scripts that I have found to take the database into a single user mode but still get the same errror.
Usually its this Database nutri93 could not be locked exclusively
How I can change the collation type? Currently the only option seems to be a complete hard install of SQL Management Studio
Published SQL Server Not Showing In AD
I searched under the Computer container in the domain in which the SQL Server was installed and did not see any SQL Server folder. I also ran a VBScript to query the directory for published instances of SQL server, but did not get any results returned in the recordset. Any ideas?
