I've created a number of tables, views, sproc, and functions whose names begin with "sys_", but when I tried to create a multi-statement table-valued function with this type of name, I got:
Server: Msg 1706, Level 16, State 2, Procedure sys_tmp, Line 9 System table 'sys_test' was not created, because ad hoc updates to system catalogs are not enabled.
I had a quick look in this forum for 1706 (and on Google) but couldn't find anything. Does anyone know for certain if this is a bug in SQL2K?

I am writing the VDI application to allow backup/restore MS SQL Server 2005. I would want to backup/restore remote servers as well as local. I have local instance of MS SQL 2005 and remote. Local instance has MSSQL2005_ZORG instance name, remote uses default (so it supposed to be MSSQLSERVER).
While connection to those server via SQL Server Management studio i see local server as "ZORGMSSQL2005_ZORG" and remote as "VM2000SRVZ2".
When i try to create VIrtualDeviceSet via CreateEx i pass "MSSQL2005_ZORG" as lpInstanceName parameter and all works fine. But I could't create same device set for remote 'MSSQLSERVER' instance. I passed any combination for that, such as "VM2000SRVZ2MSSQLSERVER", "MSSQLSERVER", "VM2000SRVZ2", "\VM2000SRVZ2MSSQLSERVER" and so on. No luck always get VD_E_INSTANCE_NAME (0x80770007).
I now have 2 server, say serverA and serverB. ServerA has a SQL server and I am using a command in the SQL server to access the serverB. The command is:
where abc is a shared folder in serverB which can be accessed by serverA. However the output of this execution is "c:> mkdir "\serverBabckevin_wong123" Access is denied". It is possible to do this in command prompt. Does anyone know what's the problem of this?
I am trying to add a linked server from a AMD x64 server (Windows 2003) with SQL Server 2005 64 bit to a Server running SQL 2000. These are not in the same domain.
I can create a linked server using the option "Be made using the login's current security context" but can not when trying to specify the security context, i.e. sa and the sa password. When I try I get the following message:
Msg 15185, Level 16, State 1, Procedure sp_addlinkedsrvlogin, Line 98 There is no remote user 'sa' mapped to local user '(null)' from the remote server 'DTS_FSERVER'.
I have several other x64 server that I have no problem creating a linked server and specifying sa and the sa password.
The problem with using "the login's current security context" option is that I get an error when trying to run any Jobs against the linked server. The job fails withe the following error:
Executed as user: NT AUTHORITYSYSTEM. Access to the remote server is denied because no login-mapping exists. [SQLSTATE 42000] (Error 7416). The step failed.
I'm sure the two errors are related. Any ideas what is going on?
I got Form Authentication to work, but I am getting this error sometimes. To reproduce this error consistantly is to run iisreset.exe to have a fresh start. Go to my report server login and open any report.
The page will display: The remote server returned an error: (500) Internal Server Error.
If i click "F5" to refresh the page the report will show up or if you go to another report it will work also. It is just the first time after iisreset.exe. It is very strange.

In my office computer network system (LAN), my Windows XP Pro PC has SQL Server Express and VB 2005 Express installed and I was granted to have the Administrator priviledge to access SQL Server Express. I tried to create a SQLCLR project in my terminal PC. 1) I tried to set up a remote connection to SQL Server Express in the following way: SQL Server EXpress => SQL Server Surface Area Configuration. In the Surface Area Configuration for Service and Connection - local, I clicked on Remote Connection of Database Engine, SQLEXPRESS and I had a "dot" on "Local and remote connections" and "Using TCP/IP only". Then I clicked on "Apply" and "OK" buttons. Then I went to restart my database engine in SQL Server Management. When I went to check SQL Server 2005 Surface Area Configuration, I saw the arrow is pointing to "Service", not to "Remote Connections"!!!??? Is it right/normal? Please comment on this matter and tell me how I can have "Remote Connecton" on after I selected it.
2) After I restarted the database engine (I guess!!), I executed the following project code (copied from a book) in my VB 2005 Express:

Fellow Devs, I have an instance of SQL Server Express 2005 running on another box and I have Remote Connections enabled over both TCP/IP and Named Pipes, but on my other box I keep getting the error that the server does not accept Remote Connections. Any ideas why this might be happening? Is there some other configuration?

I am trying to connect to a remote sql server 2005. So I have install the Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express. When I try to connect I get the error below.

I get the following error and have been trying to figure out why I keep getting it. Initially, I had placed my project under wwwroot folder and ran it under IIS and it gave this error. Then I moved it to my local C drive and same thing. I am sharing this project with two other co-workers and all our config files and code files are same...they don't get this error but I do. I checked that SQL Server Client Network Utility has TCP/IP and the 'Named Pipes' enabled. I thought maybe I have setting in the Visual Studio 2005 that I'm not aware of that's causing this problem...it can't be the server since my co-workers aren't having this error and can't be anything in the code since all of us are sharing this project through vss. I dont' think using different version of .net framework can create this error. I changed the version from 2.0 to use 1.1x and it gave same error... Any help would be greatly appreciated. Running SQL Server Personal Ed (Server A) on Tablet PC (publication and distribution setup here) trying to push data to SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Ed. (Server B). When I start sync I get two failures. First is 'remote server not defined as subscription server'. Second, subscription to publication xx not valid (error# -2147201019). The snapshot is succeeding fine. What do I need to setup on Server B? I have the same db on both servers.
My environment is Windows Server2003, ASP.NET 2.0, SQL Server 2000 using SQL authentication (names of DB's, sql id's, passwords are identical on both servers) My web application successfully connects to my database the web app and the DB are both on the same server (10.144.25.9).This connection string works: <add name="DefaultDataTierConnectionA" connectionString="Data Source=10.144.25.9,1433; Network Library=DBMSSOCN; Initial Catalog=9D_SQL; User ID=******; Password=******" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient"/> PROBLEM: The problem occurs when the DB is mpved to the remote SQL Server (10.144.25.10). The db name, user, password is same on remote machine as on the local, so everything should work but does'nt. I'm experiencing a problem connecting to a SQL 2000 server through my ASP code. My connection string is as follows: <add name="TheConnectionString" connectionString="driver={Sql Server};provider=MSDASQL;server=10.0.1.42;database=dbname;uid=*********;pwd=*********" providerName="System.Data.Odbc" /> The problem doesn't occur when I run my ASP code from my workstation using VS.NET's builtin webserver. It makes the connections and executes the CRUD commands successfully. However, when I publish my site to the webserver (which resides on 10.0.1.16) it fails out with the following error: System.Data.Odbc.OdbcException: ERROR [08001] [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]SQL Server does not exist or access denied.ERROR [01000] [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]ConnectionOpen (Connect()). I've verified that the webserver can talk to the DB server by connecting to the remote DB server through SQL Enterprise Manager running locally on the webserver. If I try to do this with a DSN I get the same results. I get the same error from any other webserver on the internal network. The difference between my workstation and the internal network is that I'm using a VPN to connect to our internal network while the webservers are physically connected to it. Firewalling isn't the issue in this case because the webservers and DB server are on a trusted network. I've seen other ways of connecting to the DB server including using Named Pipes (which I would rather not do because I don't want to setup a named pipe on the production db server). I'm relatively new to ASP.NET 2.0, so the above connection string is an adaptation of some old ASP code. If anybody has any suggestions on a better way to construct this connection string, please let me know. I've been racking my brains trying to get this to work outside of the devel env.

Long story short, I thought I'd build a local web service with the same signature as something another team was doing. In Visual Studio, you can click on the project and select Publish.
One of the options is to "Delete all existing files prior to publish." I was unfamilar with this option and it does exactly what it claims to do: my inetpubwwwroot folder is clean as a whistle. I was expecting it to only delete what it had put out there but apparently not.
We have a deploy process here so the web work and the reports I've developed can and have been dropped back out there, no harm done. I recreated the virtuals for Reports and ReportServer and something is amiss. I can navigate to http://localhost/Reports/ and it's fine, it displays the folders I had created. I can click into the folders and see the reports I had deployed just fine. However, when I actually click on a report, it starts to serve the content but then chokes and dies on rendering. It then indicates "The remote server returned an error: (403) Forbidden."
I have gone through a fellow developer's machine and compared the IIS settings between the two machines and they appear to be the same.
Auth is set to Integrated Windows I have restarted iis (iisreset) as well as followed up with a bounce to the "SQL Server Reporting Services (MSSQLSERVER)" service It's all using the 2.0.507270.0 engine
I am attempting something that I have done many times before; however, in this instance it continues to fail.
I am trying to connect Management Studio to an instance of SQL Server 2005 Express over a VPN. The Management Studio connect dialog always fails with Error 26.
I have:
Enabled the instance for remote connections €“ both TCP/IP and Named Pipes
Ensured that the instance is enabled for TCP/IP on the VPN address (10.2.1.1) and on port 1433
Ensured that the instance is running
Ensured that SQL Browser is running
Ensured that ports 1433 (TCP) and 1434 (UDP) are open on the firewall for inbound traffic
Rebooted the server following this configuration to ensure that the instance services are refreshed
Tried to connect from three separate clients (albeit on the same remote network)
Disabled the firewall to ensure no further complications (as a last resort)
I have this exact same setup functioning on a separate server.
There is an additional backstory to this problem; however, I will not complicate the scenario with it now. If you feel you can help then I can elaborate further on the server€™s history.
