MS-SQL Deadlock And Hang The Java Application
Mar 27, 2006Hi.. We have a java application which connect to our MS-SQL DB during midnight using JDBC connector and extract information. But very often ,the java applicatian halted and because of the deadlock as shown below.
Caused by: java.sql.SQLException: [Microsoft][SQLServer 2000 Driver for JDBC][SQLServer]Transaction (Process ID 54) was deadlocked o n lock resources with another process and has been chosen as the deadlock victim.
now the java programmer is blaming me that the MS SQL DB is having deadlock and cause their Java application to hang.
Is there any way to clear the deadlock before the the Java applcation run or how to prove the Java application script itself is having problem and causing the deadlock ?
Firing A Java Application From Stored Procedure

I've got a question and after doing some research I've found only a vague reference but no clear answer.
I have a java app that will be passing parameters to my stored procedure. I'll grab the requested info from the tables but instead of sending it back to the java app that sent the request, I need to send it to a "different" java app (the second java app will not be running at the time).
Can someone point me to a good source for executing java applications from a stored procedure?

Handling Character Large Objects In Java Application
Jul 13, 2004In my Java application, I have a stream of character data in a java.io.Reader object.
I am using a PreparedStatement object to insert data into a table containing such a large object column (datatype - text). I am using the following API call:
PreparedStatement.setCharacterStream(colIndex, reader, size);
In order to find the size in the above statement, I read the stream and find the length.
Because of this I am getting the following error message and the data is not getting inserted:
Exception during insertion : Failed for MYTABLE Reason [Microsoft][SQLServer 2000 Driver for JDBC]Transliteration failed.
Is there any alternate method to handle this? Please help.

Help me please with one problem which I'm facing with while deploying java server application on my computer (this java app is jBilling). I have configured it as it was said in docs, I have added environment variable CLASPATH as Microsoft documentation said. I'm using SQL Server JDBC driver 1.2 by Microsoft. The result is that I find this message in log file:

In SQL 2005, is this an acceptable (prefered) way to give an application account EXEC permissions for sprocs and funcs in a specific database?
CREATE ROLE db_executor
GRANT EXECUTE TO db_executor
And then of course assign my user to this role on the database level.
I am trying to get away from adding exec to every sproc "manually" and then of course also having to add exec for any new sprocs that get added into the database.

However it always fails after I publish the asp.net 2.0 application to our Win 2003 Server. I also copied the configuration and dtsx file to proper location on the server.
I can use dtexec to execute the package without any problem on the same location.
But when called from the application, the package fails to validate.
Is it about a user- permission problem ?

SSIS Calling An External Application
Apr 3, 2008Can you put is a call withing a Data Flow that will call an External Application and pass a parameter to that application IE say a command line app and then take the output and assign it to back to the flow as a "column" or whatever for that row... IE I want to take a value push it to an external app and then the output from that app I want to insert it into another field for that row in the new table I am moving the data to.

Jul 24, 2007We need to launch SSIS packages from within an application. As a DBA I am trying to come up with a solution that is easy to implement and will fit security best practices. Here are the possibilities that I see:
Launch dtexec via xp_cmdshell. This is the one all developers come up with first. It is not possiblebecause use of xp_cmdshell is restricted to DBAs only.
create a table into which application can insert the dtexec command. Create a job to check the table every minute and run the command via xp_cmdshell. Developers don't like this one because it is not instant.
Same as above but launch the job with sp_start_job. Not allowed because sp_start_job requires sysadmin rights.
Create a table as above but launch the packages via a service that runs on an application server. The service
checks the table and launches the packages. Fairly complex to put together and requires dtexec on the application server.
Install dtexec together with the front end and launch the packages from the client. Too expensive because dtexec requires a SQL Server license.
Create a CLR procedure that launches the package (don't know how difficult this would be and what the pros/cons are)
Does anyone have any other suggestions or comments on my assumptions?

Previously I've executed DTS packages without any problems but after a fair bit of investigation and trawling the net I've not found a way to do this successfully with SSIS. Running SSIS Package From Asp.net Application Failed
Aug 11, 2006I have an asp.net web application and a web service (both of them are created in VS 2005 - asp.net 2.0). They are located on the same web server. In both web.config files, I have set <authentication mode="Windows"/> and <identity impersonate="true"/>. Also, configured the IIS settings to use Integrated Windows Authentication and unchecked the Anonymous access (for both). The web service is called from the web app, so I have to pass credentials for authentication to the web service. The web service loads and executes a SSIS package. The package and all the other sql objects are located in the sql server 2005 (windows server 2003 - the same server as the web server).
When run the web service from develop environment (vs. 2005), I get whatever I expected. When call it from web application, however, the package failed (no error message).
In the SSIS package, there are three connection managers €“
· A: Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Analysis Services 9.0 Ã connectionType=OleDbConnection
· B: .Net Providers SqlClient Data Provider à connection type=SqlConnection
· C: Native OLE DB Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server à connectionType=OLEDB
After ran the web application and check the sql database, I can tell that the package was reached and when through the first two steps (clear some records in table_1 and extract some records from table_2 ) which relate to the connection manager B €“ ADO.Net connection. The remaining steps failed which are related to the connection managers A & C.
From SSIS package log file, found that the user credentials (domain and username) were correctly passed from web service to sql server 2005 at the first two events, but the credentials (or operator) changed from domainABCuser123 to NT AUTHORITYNETWORK SERVICE after packageStart. Then, it complains €¦ either the user, domainABCserverName$, does not have access to the database, or the database does not exist.
I think the credentials are passed ok but some setting related to the Analysis services are not correct - complaining start from there. Any clues?

Trouble Running Application In SSIS Package

Hopefully someone can help. I am not new to SQL Server, but am new to SSIS packages. As one step of my package I need to open and run a windows application. No problem there right? But, my problem is that I cannot get the "focus" returned back to the SSIS package. It doesnt move on to the next step until I close the windows application. It is like the package is the parent object waiting for a "finished" message from the child object, and it doesn't receive that message until the child object is closed. I've tried using a batch file to run the app and calling the batch file from an Execute Process Task, but that doesn't move onto the next step until the dos command prompt window closes and I can find a way to automatically close it from XP. I also can't find a way to kick off this windows app from a script task using command line. Not sure if I would run into the same problem going that route or not. If anyone can help, i would appreciate it.

SSIS Package Permissions (Windows Application Log) Question

I have an issue where the DBAs have informed my group that they need to get to a model where an SSIS package which presently needs Admin perms on a box in order to write to the Windows Application Log, no longer needs those perms to write to the log.
I am new to SSIS packages, though familiar with DTS packages (and ETL), so I'm wondering if their concerns (1) can be verified; and (2) if so, is there a better way to allow the package to write to the log without Admin perms (on the box). At the moment, the preference would be to do so without using .Net, in an effort to keep the implementation simple.
Scenario: A single package is scheduled to run at a predetermined time. Once complete it writes to the Windows Application Log.

Programming SSIS - Minimum Runtime Requirements On The Application Server

I have a VB.NET program which creates a Job (Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Smo.Agent.Job) and schedules it, to load and run a existing SSIS package, which is on a different server.
I'm using the following assemblies for this purpose.
Microsoft.SqlServer.ConnectionInfo.dll
Microsoft.SqlServer.Smo.dll
Microsoft.SqlServer.SqlEnum.dll
To make this application run in my application server, do i have to install any SQL server components or SSIS rumtime components? Or Is it enough if i copy only the above mentioned dlls to my applications bin directory, in my application?
Note: I have the enterprise edition of SQL Server 2005 installed on my database server.

Apr 23, 2015SSIS package working fine directly.I got following error while execute SSIS package from C# console application.
The connection "{79D920D4-9229-46CA-9018-235B711F04D9}" is not found. This error is thrown by Connections collection when the specific connection element is not found.
Cannot find the connection manager with ID "{79D920D4-9229-46CA-9018-235B711F04D9}" in the connection manager collection due to error code 0xC0010009. That connection manager is needed by "OLE DB Destination.Connections[OleDbConnection]" in the connection manager collection of "OLE DB Destination".
Verify that a connection manager in the connection manager collection, Connections, has been created with that ID.
OLE DB Destination failed validation and returned error code 0xC004800B. One or more component failed validation. There were errors during task validation.

Oct 31, 2007I have two SQL Server 2000 (one is localhost, one is remote with VPN IP 192.168.5.4).
I can select * from [192.168.5.4].db.dbo.test but I can't exec [192.168.5.4].db..spAdd in localhost.
These select and sp is OK for 1 or 2 week without any problem,but it didn't work one day.
Can some one explain why?

DMX From Java
Jan 6, 2007My preferred programming language is Java (sorry Microsoft). I've searched for examples of running DMX queries into an Analysis Services database from Java but failed to locate any. I've seen suggestions that XMLA could be used but again, I can't locate any examples (in any language). For my current project I ran up the white flag and used C# instead but this wouldn't be an option in other cases. It would be possible to make the DMX calls from C# objects and call those from Java but that's pretty labourious to code.
Suggestions?

Jul 23, 2005Anyone have any tips for using Java against SQL Server? Our ITdirector is thinking of making us a Java shop, but I really would liketo stay with SQL Server as our RDBMS. We have Oracle Financials butour in-house development (currently VB6 client-server, soon to bereplaced by a service-oriented architecture based around Sonic andincluding SalesForce, both of which are Java) has been against SQLServer. He says five years ago at his old company Java/SQL Server hadlousy performance. I vaguely remember that since then Microsoft cameout with their own JDBC driver for SQL Server... Anyone have experiencewith this? Any performance tips will be hugely appreciated.TIA
