I have a legncy DTS package when upgrading to SQL 2005, I used "SQL Business Intelligence Development Studio" to create a project, the control flow is "Execute 2000 DTS Package", by right click "Execute Task" of the control flow, the color changed from yellow to red, the message said "package Execution completed". When I try to schedule this package in SQL Server Agent, the job failed. When I run dtexec, got following error message.

Hi
We would like to install Sql 2005 Enterprise Edition (including database engine, reporting service, integration service and analysis service) as a sepearte instance on a server which already has Sql 2000 with reporting services and analysis services. We do not want to disturb the existing sql 2000 setup.
If we do that then what will happen to my earlier sql 2000 reporting service? Will it be upgraded to sql 2005 reporting service? I heard that reporting services are instance unaware application. Where will be the default reporting service database available?
Please help us.

I have used to the execute dts 2000 task in Visual Studio to successfully execute a structured storage file for a simple DTS package.
I am trying to use the same method for another DTS package, which executes five other packages. I've tried both the 'structured storage' and 'embedded in task' methods pointing to the parent package but in debugging mode the execution immedately fails. When I execute the parent package in Management Studio, it successfully executes the five child packages. I am including the debugging message below, thogh it doesn't help me any. Does anyone know what the problem is?
SSIS package "BPSA_LOAD_ACCT_SUMMARY_NEW.dtSX" starting.

does anyone know how to do this, its :

I'm converting a package from DTS to IS. My manager does not want to spend the time re-writing it to make use of the Script task so that's why I'm using a DTS 2000 task which contains some ActiveX.
The tasks themselves run fine when I'm in the designer and click the run button, but when part of the entire package it fails. I search on the error message and nothing comes up.
This is the error message:
Error: System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x8004043B): Exception from HRESULT: 0x8004043B at DTS.PackageClass.Execute() at Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Tasks.Exec80PackageTask.Exec80PackageTask.ExecuteThread()
I've set them to run on the main thread but that doesn't seem to help.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you,
Kelly
I must be missing something very simple here but how do you set an inner variable with a value stored in an outer variable, or any other variable?
I've tried various syntaxes used elsewhere to refer to variables without any success, and the help topics have been less than useful for this task.
Thanks,
John
I have imported a series of SQL 2000 DTS packages to our 64bit AMD SQL 2005 server. I then created SSIS pkgs to run each SQL 2000 package using the Execute DTS 2000 package task. Then I deployed these packages to the Yukon server as well.
I can run these packages when launching them via Integration Services from Management Studio on my workstation, but when I try to run them via a SQL Job or the DTExec command on the server, I get this error. Anyone know of a workaround?

Is the DTS 2000 Package Task not supported on Win64?
I have installed the SQL Server 2000 DTS components from the November feature pack on both my workstation and the server.
Thanks for your help!
I tried the following but file dir.rpt is never created. in fact, the exec statement appears to lock-up forever.
exec xp_cmdshell 'c: empjunkdir.bat'
dir.bat Contains
dir c: > c: empjunkdir.rpt
This should be easy!
Hello all,
I am running a package on a 64-bit server using the 32-bit dtexec. It contains an embedded Execute DTS 2000 package. I deployed the package to the server using the sa account. I set up a SQL Agent job that runs under an account that should have complete admin privileges. The network guys tell me that Legacy components have been installed (although I believe that shouldn't be necessary because SSIS is installed). This is SQL Server 2005, SP2.
When I execute this job, I receive this error message:

Is there any way to get this to run?
Thank you very much,

I have a "Execute DTS Package 2000 " task in SSIS. The SQL 2000 DTS has one task which precedence is "completion". Using SQL2000 it works properly, but when I invoke it from SSIS it doesn€™t respect the precedence. So, when the task above fails it ends the DTS execution.
Is it possible to configure the task to respect the precedences?
Hi there,
I'm creating an SSIS package that will execute legacy dts packages. The package to be executed is decided at runtime using a sql query task.
Executing a dts package statically works fine, but when I try to set the details of the dts to be run via expressions, I get the error below.
To make it dynamic, I created a variable of type string, and put the package name in here. I also have a string variable for the packageid. Then I set up an expression on the Execute DTS 2000 Package Task that sets the PackageName & PackageID property to this variable.
The PackageId is a string variable I've retrieved using:
select top 1 name,
cast(id AS varchar(50)) id,
cast(versionid AS varchar(50)) versionid
from sysdtspackages
where name = @PackageName
order by createdate desc
When I use the task to set the package id it works find (by selecting a dts, then changing the name), but when I try to provide the package id I get this message:
Error: 0x0 at Execute DTS 2000 Package Task: System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x8004040E): Invalid GUID specified.
at DTS.PackageClass.LoadFromSQLServer(String ServerName, String ServerUserName, String ServerPassword, DTSSQLServerStorageFlags Flags, String PackagePassword, String PackageGuid, String PackageVersionGuid, String PackageName, Object& pVarPersistStgOfHost)

at Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Tasks.Exec80PackageTask.Exec80PackageTask.ExecuteThread()
Task failed: Execute DTS 2000 Package Task
but the method signature specifies String PackageGuid, and it is a string..
any ideas??
i tried casting the variable like so:
(DT_GUID) @[User:TSPkgId], as the versionid is a uniqueidentifier on sysdtspackages.. It didn't like that at all (can't cast from type DT_WSTR to DT_GUID error code 0xC00470C2)
I am attempting to move some SQL 2000 databases to SQL 2005. My main production database does not seem to want to move. When I use the SQL 2005 GUI the .bak backup file is marked 'Incomplete'. When I attempt to restore the backup file I get a 'RESTORE detected an error on page (0:0) in database' message. I saw a thread in the SQL Express forum suggesting trying to restore from the T-SQL level to get the GUI out of the picture and I get the same 'error on page (0:0)' message. However when I take the same file and use SQL 2000 Enterprise Manager it restores with no problems.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Hi, I am trying to edit some data from a SQL2000-datasource in ASP.NET 2.0 and have a problem with a column that has bit-data and is used for selection. SQL2005 works fine when declaring <SelectParameters> <asp:Parameter DefaultValue="TRUE" Name="APL" Type="boolean" /> </SelectParameters>When running this code with SQL2000, there are no error-msgs, but after editing a record the "APL"-column looses its value of 1 and is set to 0. Looks like an issue with type-conversion, we've hit incompatibilities between SQL200 and 2005 with bit/boolean several times before. So, how is this done correctly with SQL2000? (I've tried setting the Type to "int16" -> err. Also setting Defval="1" gave an err) ThanksMichael

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have to merge the data from two databases, one is in SQL Server 2005 format, one is in 2000. The merged data will then reside on a SQL Server 2000 platform. Is there an easy way to do this through Management Studio or Enterprise Manager? Or will we have to export the data from the 2005 database to a flat file and import it into a new 2000 database. And then do the merge?
TIA
I am in the process of migrating from Sql Server 2000 to 2005. Part of my plan is to move some database's to 2005, but use the 2000 compatibility mode for the short term. My issue is this, our DR boxes are still on SQL Server 2000, would I still be able to use our log shipping processes? Or would I be better off in starting with migrating the DR boxes to 2005 first?
Thanks in advance.
I was trying to grant access for an application user for executing xp_cmdshell, but I got some error message saying that either doesn't the user exist, or I don't have the permissions to grant this. Does the user need to be a user in Master ? Or, don't I when logged in as "sa" have the sufficient permissions to grant execute on a SP in master?
I solved it by checking "Control server" under "Properties" > "Securables"
for the login, but I don't actually want this login to have full control.
(And yes, I've read that allowing xp_cmdshell usage isn't recommended at all.)
I would like to know how to execute an existing sql-script (from a file) on a sql-server 2005 Express. I use SQL Manager 2005, but I do not want to use this tool - because parts of the script might not be executed in a transaction, so that I may not use SQL Manager 2005.
But anyway I would like to be able to execute this on commmand line. The problem is that I even do not know 1) how to start command line 2) how to execute the existing sql-file from there.
I would be very happy if anybody could help me out with this!

I have several SQL 2000 servers I need to setup transactional (non updatable) replication with. The structure is:
SQL Server 2000 as Publisher/Distributor
SQL Server 2005 Standard as Subscriber
The connection is via the Internet with snapshots using FTP.
I setup the first set (2 databases at location A). They work wonderfully. I created the publication and then subscribed using MGMT Studio for 2K5.
II am setting up the same scenario for location B. Here is my problem:
In MGMT Studio I connect to the publisher (SANDRA). I right-click a publication and choose New Subscriptions..., the publication is already selected. I click next - Run each agent at its Subscriber is selected and the only option (this is desired), I click Next
HERE IS THE PROBLEM:
On the Subscriber's screen there are no Subscribers listed. When setting up location A the subscribing server was listed and I could choose a database. The Next button is greyed out and there is no way to create/add one.
I tried setting up the subscription by right-clicking the subcribing server's Replication folder in MGMT Studio but I get the same result (except that I have to authenticate with the publishing server which works fine).
WHAT'S DIFFERENT:
Location A is SQL Server Standard (SP3) running on SBS2K3. It is obviously on a domain and so SQL Server and the SQL Agent are running under domain accounts. Location B is a Windows XP SP2 machine running SQL Server Personal Edition (it actually says Development Edition in the properties window).
The databases are the same strucutre, different data. At location A the firewall is set to allow 1433->*any* and *any*->1433 where *any* is 1024 or higher. On the XP machine the firewall is set to allow port 1433. I don't think this is the issue because I've turned the firewall off on the XP machine and I get the same result.
ANY IDEAS?
Most of our sql servers ar still sql 2000. Our programmers created many sql 2000 database diagrams using EM. But they can not access them under sql 2005. (They now have only sql 2005 tools installed on their boxes.)
Question: can we reinstall the sql 2000 client tools on their boxes without affecting the current sql 2005 install on their boxes?
Question: is there any workaround negating the need to ihstall the sql 2000 client?
TIA,

Ive created a DAL called Artist.xsd. Ive used stored procedures to access the data. The wizard created a stored procedure called 'dbo.ArtistSelectCommand' Ive granted the ASPNET account execute permissions on this stored procedure When I run the application and try to execute the stored proc, I get this error
EXECUTE permission denied on object 'ArtistSelectCommand', database 'EBSNet', owner 'dbo'.
as far as im aware ive givne the ASPNET account the correct permissions
EXEC sp_grantlogin [MachineNameASPNET]
EXEC sp_grantdbaccess [MachineNameASPNET], [ASPNET]
** Ive also done this by selecting the stored proc in sql server 2005 and setting permissions by right clicking and selecting properties.
Is there anything else I need to do ?

View 1 Replies View RelatedHi all,
I have a problem while i create a proxy account in SQL Sever 2005.The situation is like this...There is a user who has an login in to the server. He has a stored procedure which calls some on the SSIS packages and XP_cmdshell...so this stored procedure basically load some data in to the tables .So for the login in order to execute the stored procedure as he is not a Sys admin I have created a proxy account in my account as Iam an SA and then in the proxies and in principals I selected his login name and this way I have created a credential and a proxy account.
Now the problem is if he logins with his id and password and try to execute the stored procedure it gives an error message
Server: Msg 15153, Level 16, State 1, Procedure xp_cmdshell, Line 1
The xp_cmdshell proxy account information cannot be retrieved or is invalid. Verify that the '##xp_cmdshell_proxy_account##' credential exists and contains valid information.
....so this mean the login is not able to see the proxy account. So what I did is I created a job and then in the job owner tab I have selected his login and then created a step with the type operating system (CmdExec) as I need to just execute the stored procedure and used the proxy account that I have created.
so I gave the command -- exec <stored procedure> --.
But this job fails and gives the error message as
[298] SQLServer Error: 536, Invalid length parameter passed to the SUBSTRING function. [SQLSTATE 42000]....
So now ....first My question is am I doing in a right way....if its right then why Iam not able to execute the stored procedure.
If there is any other way through which I can execute the stored procedure using a proxy account for the logins who are not sys admins....please do let me know.....
Thanks

Hello! I would like to write a value from a column to a parameter in SSIS with the Execute SQL task. The problem is that I will never get a value for the parameter.
You can recreate the problem with the AdventureWorksDW sample database.
1. Drop an execute SQL task in the control flow
2. Set the connection to the AdventureWorksDw database
3. Write this in the SQL Statement box Select Max(FullDateAlterNateKey) as LastDate
From DimTime
4. Set the resultset to single Row
5. Under result set assign LastDate as the Result Name and create a parameter with a default date.
6. Execute the task, that will finish succesfully but the value of the parameter in 5 have not changed.
I have tried to change the scope to both the package level and the task level without any success. The value of the variable is still the default value. I have also tried a string variable without sucess.
Any ideas?
Kind Regards

I am not comfortable with DTS 2000 but I need to execute a encapsulated DTS 2000 package from a SSIS package. The real problem is when I need to pass SSIS variables to DTS 2000 package. The DTS 2000 package have 3 global variables that I can identify on " Execute DTS 2000 Package Task Editor - Inner Variables ". I believe the SSIS variables must be mapped on " Execute DTS 2000 Package Task Editor - OuterVariables ". How can I associate the SSIS variables(OuterVariables ) to "Inner Variables"? How can I do it? Much Thanks.
