I have designed a Contacts application, where I store all the Contacts in a SQL Database.
Now, I am deploying this application using Visual Studio 2005 Setup and Deployment project.
I might need the update the database with additional Columns etc at a later stage.
How, can I update the SQL Database after it has been deployed on a client computer?

I added a configuration file to my pakage for changing the connections strin, but whe I execute the deployed package and in the Execute pakage utility I add the .dtsconfig file and then execute it it never takes the connection string stored in the configuration file. Mi configuration file is:

Move Files From Directory Based On Names On A Static List.
May 2, 2008I have a scenario where I need to move a series of files from within a directory of many files. The files follow no nameing convention and are more of less random. However the file names never change from week to week. I tried various different options in a 'file system task', no go.
Any ideas on how to move only a list of files?
or
can I load only specific files into a 'Foreach Loop container' from a certain directory. I tried delimiting file names in the file source, that did not work.

Execute Package Task And Configuration Files

For selecting different load targets we use package configurations to override the connection parameters in the connection manager.
To organize the different tasks we splittetd our load processes into multiple package files (dtsx) which are then put together into a workflow using "Execute Package Task" component.
With the option /CONFIGFILE its possible to override the configuration file for the package that is called with DTExec. Unfortuanetly it does not override the configuration of subpackages calles by the "Execute Package Task".
Are there some ways to configure subpackages on the command line?

I'm trying to capture the file name and insert to the Database with Loop Container and Execute Sql task...However when I run, I get error with the input parameter.
In my Sql Task, the parameter mapping:
Variable name: user::variable,
direction: input,
Data Type: Varchar,
parameter name: @xVariable,
parameter size: -1
connectiontype: OleDB
sourcetype: direct input
statement : insert into xtable(xcolumn) values(@xVariable)
Anyone have any other suggestion how to capture the filename and input in the database?

1) Test--FolderName (This Test folder name should use as a database name for below sub folders)

The scripts need to be run in order. So script one needs to run first folder in that sub folders after that next second folders etc..
Is there a way to create a bat file that automatically runs all these scripts, in order against, the databases they need to?
The databases that they need to run against have the name of the database at the beginning of the name of the folder.

Report Designer: Need To List Fields From Multiple Result Rows As Comma Seperated List (like A JOIN On Parameters)

I know I can do a JOIN(parameter, "some seperator") and it will build me a list/string of all the values in the multiselect parameter.
However, I want to do the same thing with all the occurances of a field in my result set (each row being an occurance).
For example say I have a form that is being printed which will pull in all the medications a patient is currently listed as having perscriptions for. I want to return all those values (say 8) and display them on a single line (or wrap onto additional lines as needed).
Something like:
List of current perscriptions: Allegra, Allegra-D, Clariton, Nasalcort, Sudafed, Zantac
How can I accomplish this?
I was playing with the list box, but that only lets me repeat on a new line, I couldn't find any way to get it to repeate side by side (repeat left to right instead of top to bottom). I played with the orientation options, but that really just lets me adjust how multiple columns are displayed as best I can tell.
Could a custom function of some sort be written to take all the values and spit them out one by one into a comma seperated string?

Items In List A That Don't Appear In List B (was Simple Query...I Think)
Jan 20, 2005Ok, I want to write a stored procedure / query that says the following:

If any of the items in list 'A' also appear in list 'B' --return false
If none of the items in list 'A' appear in list 'B' --return true
In pseudo-SQL, I want to write a clause like this

Return False
ELSE
Return True
Unfortunately, it seems I can't do that unless my subquery before the 'IN' statement returns only one value. Needless to say, it returns a number of values.
I may have to achieve this with some kind of logical loop but I don't know how to do that.
Can anyone help?
Select List Contains More Items Than Insert List

Insert Only New Items From A List But Get ID's For New And Existing In The List.

I have a a table that holds a list of words, I am trying to add to the list, however I only want to add new words. But I wish to return from my proc the list of words with ID, whether it is new or old.
Here's a script. the creates the table,indexes, function and the storeproc. call the proc like procStoreAndUpdateTokenList 'word1,word2,word3'
My table is now 500000 rows and growing and I am inserting on average 300 words, some new some old.
performance is a not that great so I'm thinking that my code can be improved.

Help! The Transaction Log Is Full Error In SSIS Execute SQL Task When I Execute A DELETE SQL Query

I had got the below error when I execute a DELETE SQL query in SSIS Execute SQL Task :
Error: 0xC002F210 at DelAFKO, Execute SQL Task: Executing the query "DELETE FROM [CQMS_SAP].[dbo].[AFKO]" failed with the following error: "The transaction log for database 'CQMS_SAP' is full. To find out why space in the log cannot be reused, see the log_reuse_wait_desc column in sys.databases". Possible failure reasons: Problems with the query, "ResultSet" property not set correctly, parameters not set correctly, or connection not established correctly.
But my disk has large as more than 6 GB space, and I query the log_reuse_wait_desc column in sys.databases which return value as "NOTHING".
So this confused me, any one has any experience on this?

Transact-SQL code included in either an Execute SQL or Execute T-SQL
task. If this can be done, I need to know the technique to use -
whether it's something similar to a parameter placeholder question
mark or something else.
FYI - I've been able to successfully execute Transact-SQL statements
within the Execute SQL task, so I don't think the Execute T-SQL task
is even necessary for this purpose.
SSIS Execute Package With Execute Out Of Process = True Causes ProductLevelToLow Error

I have a master package, which executes child packages that are located on a SQL Server. The Child packages execute other child packages which are also located on the SQL server.
Everything works fine when I execute in process. But when I set the parameter in the mater package ExecutePackageTask to ExecuteOutOfProcess = True, I get the following error
Error: 0xC00470FE at DFT Load Data, DTS.Pipeline: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_PRODUCTLEVELTOLOW. The product level is insufficient for component "Row Count" (5349).
Error: 0xC00470FE at DFT Load Data, DTS.Pipeline: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_PRODUCTLEVELTOLOW. The product level is insufficient for component "SCR Custom Split" (6399).

I have set of 2 DTS packages, one of which calls the other by forming a command-line (dtexec) using a Execute Process task.
From the parent package-> Execute Process Task->
dtsexec /F etc... /<pkg variable> = "servername"
Each of the parent and the called package have a variable: "User::DWServerSQLInstance" which is mapped to the SQL server connection manager server name property using an expression. The outer package has the above variable and so does the inner called package (which gets assigned through the command line from the outerpackage call to inner)
I "sometimes" get the following error:

I have seen a few other people have this error.
Package works fine when run from BIDS, DTExec, dtexecui. When I schedule it, It get these random errors. (See below)
The main culprit is a variable called "RecordsetFileDIR" which is set using an expression. (@[User::_ROOT] + "RecordSets\")
A number of other variables use this as part of their expression and as they all fail, pretty much everything dies.
I have installed SP1 (Not Beta) on server. Package uses config files to set the value of _ROOT.
The error does not always seem to be with this particular variable though. Always a variable that uses an expression but errors are random. Also, It will run 3 out of 10 times without a problem. I am the only person on the server at the time.
Any ideas?

SQL Server Admin 2014 :: Separate Data Files / Log Files / TempDB / Backups
Jan 9, 2015I proposed on a new server that we separate Data Files, Log Files, tempDB, Backups, etc. onto separate LUNS on a SAN with High Speed Solid State Drives.I was told that with the new technology with solid state SAN's that it would decrease performance and that it did not work the same way as it did when you had RAID 5's etc.I thought that if things were cared out correctly by a SAN Administrator they would know how to configure for optimal performance.

Script Task: How To Compare Files On FTP With Existing Files In Local Folder Before Transfer!
Apr 24, 2008In the first step of my SSIS package I need to get files from FTP and dump it/them in a local directory, but it's more than that, the logic is like this:
1. If no file(s) found, stop executing and send email saying no file(s) found;
2. If file(s) found, then compare it/them with existing files in our archive folder; if file(s) already exist in archive folder, stop executing and send email saying file(s) already existed, if file(s) not in archive folder yet, then transfer it/them to the local directory for processing.
I know i have to use a script task to do this and i did some research and found examples for each of the above 2 steps and not both combined, so that's why I need some help here to get the logic incorporated right.

In reading through the Online Book Documentation, I realize that I have forgotten to move the Transaction Log Files to a different drive. Now that the server is in production, I wanted to get some input about the best way of making this change.
Can I just change the directory the log files are being written to in the DB properties without having any adverse problems occurring?

I'm using replication with two database on SQL 2000,when begin, the log files size is 50mb and the data files size is 150mb. But now the log files size is 2Gb and the data files size is 4Gb. I would like to decrease the log files and the data files ??? How do i do this???
(I using Truncate and shrink doesn't change )
