Is there a way to execute a user-defined function as part of a select query on a linked server?
Here is the query that won't work because the function it calls is on a remote server (and the way I have called it is also incorrect I know, it's just to give an idea of what I'm trying to achieve).
SELECT a.[Member Number],
a.SchemeID,
b.Scheme,
Atlantis.ptr.dbo.upFUNMemberStatusOnADate(a.[Member Number],'01/10/2007 00:00:00.000') AS Category,
a.[Employer Number],
c.[Employer Name]
FROM Atlantis.ptr.dbo.Member a
JOIN Atlantis.ptr.dbo.Scheme b
ON a.SchemeID = b.SchemeID
JOIN Atlantis.ptr.dbo.Employer c
ON a.[Employer Number] = c.[Employer Number]
Apologies for the formatting of the query. I have looked at the EXECUTE query in BOL but it doesn't seem to be able to work as part of a SELECT, I'll keep looking though but I'm hoping someone might know the answer straight away.
What is the syntax for creating a update trigger and passing the values which were updated to a stored procedure on a linked server?? Specifically need syntax for updated value, as well as the syntax for executing the stored proc on the linked server.
Facing a strange problem, but obviously not expected earlier on, I am trying to execute a stored procedure via ADO which refrences a linked server table and I get an error specifying " OLEDB provider SQLOLEDB does not contain table "<DatabaseName>"."<owner>"."<tableName>" "
Has any one else encountered this problem before ? regards Govind
I have a web application using Stored Procedure (SP). I see that there's a SP taking long time to execute. I try to capture it by Profiler Tool, and find out that with the same SP on the same db with the same parameter. The duration of executing by my web app is far bigger than the duration of executing on SQl server management studio - query window

Hi all,I am facing an unusual issue here. I have a stored procedure, that return different set of result when I execute it from .NET component compare to when I execute it from SQL Management Studio. But as soon as I recompile the stored procedure, both will return the same results. This started to really annoying me, any thoughts or solution? Thanks very much guys
I've managed to get my Instance connected to the internet and I can query it using PHP and SQL, I can also look at views with no problem.
I have it working as an "ADODB.Connection" and like I said it connects and I can query data and display results.
Now I have coded a Stored Proc "GetMonthDays" in Sql Server:
Which returns days 1 through xxx in a given month and also returns the Day name eg... Sat for each date
2014-01-01 Thurs 2014-01-02 Fri etc...
It works perfectly and very fast so All cool with that side BUT... I want to be able to query the Database through a Stored Proc, I've spent all day trying to find a way to get this to work and I've hit a wall
I am able to run the pacakge in command line but when i try running the package through agent . The it starts the pacakge it says that it has been started by me local user and fails in next step saying that it has been execute by administrator.
I understand that there is a miss match between the permissions. Cos the SQL server Agent uses my login in but the SQL server agent on the Server that i am trying to execute has the Administrator log in. How to solve the issue?
I have a C# assembly I've created that I wish to run inside SQL Server. Since SQL Server doesn't support SMO inside of it, does anyone have any suggestions on how I might execute a SQL Server job in my assembly?
Hi ALl I need a quick solution for my sql server problem as follows.
Actually Earlier we have SQL Server 7, Every 3 hours we execute one Procedure it takes only 15 seconds. Now we Install SQL Server 2000 and Same Procedure Is taking 30 Minutes for execution what could be the reason I want to minimize the execution time. how can i ?
I have a problem with a SQL Server (2000) Agent Job that has 3 steps that don't produce the desired outcome when invoked in total but will produce the desired outcome if the first step is broken up from the last two steps.
1) The first step uses third party software to generate PDFs to a folder.
2) The second step executes the following command to ftp the PDFs to a folder and move these PDFs to a backup folder:
3) The third step determines if any files remain in the folder that contained the PDFs. If files are still in the folder then the FTP and move step (step 2) did not work and a stored procedure is invoked to send an email to the appropriate administrator
DECLARE @result int EXEC @result = master..xp_cmdshell 'Dir "\networkdriveArchiveGeneral*.pdf" | find /i "file"' IF @result = 0 exec ibc_sp_Email_Report_Failure 'FTP General Report'
When I invoke this job from Enterprise Manager and view the job history, it says that all steps executed successfully (which I understand may be the case even if the files were not FTPed or moved since the command can still return a code indicating success even though it didn't do what I expected.) In fact, the PDF is generated and written to \networkdriveArchiveGeneral eportname.pdf. Steps 2 and 3 do not do what I expect. The PDFs still remain in the folder.
But when I start the job from step 2, the files are then moved. So, invoking the entire job does not move the files; invoking the job from step 2 moves the files.
Simple, you think, it is obvious that you didn't set up your job steps correctly in that step 1 does not go to the next step upon success. But I already checked that. Step 1 goes to the next step upon success.
Anybody ever come upon this problem? Any suggestions as to what else I can look at?
how to use opendatasource to execute a stored procedure remotely in MySQL with parameters..I am using sp_configure to enable and disable Ad Hoc Distributed queries as below before and after the open data source statement
sp_configure show,1 reconfigure with override go sp_configure 'Ad Hoc Distributed Queries',1 reconfigure with override go
I have been trying to get a clear explanation on what I need to do in order to be able to execute SSIS packages which I have located on an app server. Is it that I need integration services installed on the app server itself and thats it? Or can someone tell me if there is any more to it, thanks folks!
With DTS you could copy and register some DLLs onto a non-SQL Server PC and run Packages. Is this still possible with SSIS? I imagine that, at the very least, you would have to copy dtexec.exe and the *,dtsx files to the other computer.
I am struggling with creating a simple stored procedure, I want to take max(timekey) out in one variable @Val in a dynamic SQL statement as below in SP. When I create this SP, it creates successfully but when I run it I get error
Select @Val=MAX(TimeKey) FROM ABC
Msg 137, Level 15, State 1, Line 1
Must declare the scalar variable "@Val".
Can someone help me in understanding this wierd behavior? And how to get rid of this. Table and SP scripts are as below
CREATE TABLE ABC (TimeKey int, Data_Val int)
CREATE Procedure MAXVal(@Table_Name Varchar(30))
AS
BEGIN
DECLARE @Val INT,
@SQL Varchar(100)
SET @SQL='Select @Val=MAX(TimeKey) FROM '+''+@Table_Name+''
I have developed about 20 to 30 packages that are executed on a specific order by a parent package that iterates a foreach cycle...
Has in development server all packages run just fine... when deployed to the production server and executed the first child package to run gives error and says that the logging text file was unable to find the file??? It was supposed for the log to create and send information to the file right? So i think this is a little bit weird...
Hi ,What i exacly want to do is1. Connect to OLAP server from my Sql server using following querystring'SELECT a.* FROMOpenRowset(''MSOLAP'',''DATASOURCE="RAPID-CHRISTUS"; InitialCatalog="MRS";2. I want to execute my dynamically created MDX query . This query canbe greater than 8000 varchar limit. When my query length exceeds 8000 length i break it up into 2 parts..Here I have broken my query into 2 parts@mdx1 and @mdx2Now i execute the entire statement asexec('SELECT a.* FROMOpenRowset(''MSOLAP'',''DATASOURCE="RAPID-CHRISTUS"; InitialCatalog="MRS";'',' + @mdx1 + mdx2 ') as ' )Still error comes that :Unclosed quotation mark before the character string 'WITH MEMBER ..('With member' is the starting statement of my MDX query)Is there any other way to connect to OLAP server and execute an MDXstatement with a Length greater than 8000 charsTIA

I am exceuting the package with Protection level Don'tSaveAsSensitive.
I also want to know a way to fine out what the error is exactly.not just the View History. If i set the logging for the package where do i view them???
I want to run ssis package in sql server 2005 agent. i've made a new JOB with 3 steps ( 3 ssis package)
But when i run the job, i see only 2 "actions step" in the windows :
Start job ..... Execute job ....
I would like to see at least the execution status of every ssis package and if it's possible, the execution of every task ( to see quickly if there's some error and what's wrong)
Hello everyone. I'm having a problem with the sql server agent occasionally not executing its scheduled jobs, and unless the sql server agent is restarted they will not execute according to their schedule. I've read many posts on people having problems with running a package manually and then not being able to run it in a job, although that is not my problem since these are jobs that have all run successfully historically, and only until the agent is restarted do they start working again. It is the strangest thing.....we have many different jobs on this server and all of them will just mysteriously stop being executed. Two other things of note, the agent and server processes both run on AD accounts, and we receive this error:
SQL Server Scheduled Job 'X' - Status: Failed - Invoked on: 2007-10-27 02:00:00 - Message: The job failed. Unable to determine if the owner (ADadacct) of job 'X' has server access (reason: Unable to connect to server - check SQL Server and SQL Server Agent errorlogs).
Hi, I have a Table that contains SQL queries in one of its columns.I need to execute those query and finally want to retrive the result in another table i cannot use Cursors,Its working extremely slow, near about 1 min only for 2000 rows. Please tell me how can i minimize my time.Or any solution (without cursor) for such problem. Please help its very urgent.e.g Say TableContainQuery(PKID,QueryField) Now above table have 10000 of records, I need to retrieve data from by executing queries contain in above table. I am using SQL Server. Regards,Dheeraj
Ok, I thought this one would be easy.I have a stored proc: master.dbo.restore_database_fooThis is on database server B.Database server A backs up database foo on a daily basis as a scheduledtask. What I wanted to do was, at the end of the scheduled task is then call thestored proc on B and restore the database. If I go into Query Analyzer and log into database A, then execb.master.dbo.restore_database_foo works. But if I take the same command and make it part of the scheduled task itfails.Error is:OLE DB provider 'SQLOLEDB' reported an error. [SQLSTATE 42000] (Error 7399)[SQLSTATE 01000] (Error 7312). The step failed. To me this seems like a permissions issue, but nothing I've tried seems tohave helped.Suggestions?----Greg D. I try to run a job from SQL Server Agent to execute an SSIS package, but it always fails. However, if I execute the SSIS package directly, it will succeed.
The SQL Agent Job History shows "Unable to start execution of step 1 (reason: Error authenticating proxy DB1DB1_CREDENTIAL, system error: Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password.). The step failed."
P.S. DB1 is my server name, DB1_CREDENTIAL is the account creating the credential
The SQL Server Agent Error Log shows "[298] SQLServer Error: 22046, Impersonation error. [SQLSTATE 42000]"
I've created an account on OS and assigned it to a credential. Then, I created a proxy with the credential and then created the SQL Server Agent job with that proxy.
P.S. My SSIS package protection level is created as "Rely on server storage and roles for access control", because if it is set as "Do not save any sensitive data", package execution will fail even I run it directly.
How can I successfully run SSIS package from SQL Server Agent? Do I lose any setting steps?
Hi everybody, I'm newby in SSIS. I have been using DTS in SQL 2000. Trying to learn how to execute SSIS package from C# code of ASP.NET web server. Here's my case: 1. SSIS package with simple data transformation from one table to CSV is stored in SQL Server 2005 storage 2. CSV is for simplicity placed in C: .txt 3. I haven't used SSIS configuration files 4. Protection level of package = EncryptSensitiveWithUserKey 5. Executes OK from Bussiness inteligence studio 6. I've created console application with this code:
7. When I connect through Remote Desktop Connection I successfully execute this console application on SQL server host machine. 8. When I try execution from computer where I develop package and where I successfully executed it from Bussiness inteligence studio I'm geting FAILURE was a result
Connection params for SQL are same in console application and in SSIS project of Bussiness inteligence studio.
I am working on an application used to move packages (SSIS Packages) from one server to another. The packages are saved under MSDB folder.
Case: When the application is running on my system, i try to copy packages created from another server to my Server.I am using package protection level as "Server Storage". When i try to execute the coppied package from my system, it is giving me error. An oledb error has occured, Error Code 0x80040E4D, An Oledb record is available, Source : Microsoft OLedb Provider for Sql Server", Description : "Login failed for sa".
Case : When the Package Coppier application is running on my system, i try to copy packages created on my server to my another Server.I use the same package protection level as "Server Storage". When i try to execute the copied package on destination server it is working fine without errors.
Please guide me on this issue, as soon as possible
