Forgive me if this question is a bit too generic, if it is, feel free tojust not respond.I have a database which has been running in PostgreSQL for a number ofyears at this stage which I want to port into MS SQL server.It seems that the SQL that Postgre outputs when I do a backup is notsyntactically correct within MS-SQL server.My question is, does anyone have any documentation on how to convert adatabase from the Postgre platform to SQL server? Is it possible usingan ODBC connection to import a database structure including tabledefinitions, views etc into SQL Server?Failing this, does anyone have any suggestions on where I might start -I did attempt to go through the SQL code and modify it to suit SQLserver, but it's about 3,500 lines of code excluding the insertstatements (which themselves are also wrong) and almost every line needssomething changed when comparing SQL syntax from Postgre to MSSQL serverThanks in advance for any comments/suggestions.Engada.--Posted via a free Usenet account from http://www.teranews.com

Hi !when installing sqlserver 2000 on a Windows 2003 server it explicitlytells "server not compatible with Windows 2003" during install, but itcan carry on.After we applied serfice pack 3a then the db server seems to runnormally, but does it risk to behave randomly afterwards ???Is sqlserver 2000 standard edition compatible with Windows 2003 server?Or does it exist a specific sqlserver edition for Win2003 ?thanks !Patrice

Hi experts;
I have a problem with unicode character 0x2300
I created this table
create table testunicode (Bez nchar(128))
Insert Data
insert into testunicode (Bez)values('Ē')
with 2 Unicode characters
= 0x2300
Ē = 0x2122
Selecting the data
select Bez from testunicode
I see
"?Ē"
Ē = 0x2122 is ok but instead of 0x2300 there is 0x3f
When I modify the insert statement like that ( 8960 = 0x2300 )
insert into testunicode (Bez)values(NCHAR(8960)+'Ē')
and select again voila i see
"Ē"
Does anyone have an idea?
Thanks

Hi,I'm planning to develop a small intranet to provide our organizationwith documents online. I've decided to do this using jsp/servletsusing a tomcat server. For an operating system, I have chosen red hatlinux. However, I'd like to keep a small database on a sql server asa datasource. However, this sql server is already part of ourorganization's windows domain. I suspect I'll need to configure sambaso that other terminals on the windows domain will be able to reachthe intranet. What's the best manner in which to connect my linuxservlets to this sql server database? I suspect this may bedifficult, considering the sql server exists within a windows domain,but as a beginner, what do I know. Perhaps someone could point me inthe right direction.

Hi,
Iīm building an aplication with VB.net and SQL Server 9, but in the future it will be compatible with PostgreSQL (by another developer), so my question is, if anyone knows what "data types" in SQL Server 9 i must use to maintain compatibility with PostgreSQL, so that when the time come for the conversion i don t have to chage the "Data Types" on each table.
Any help would be apreciated.

p.s. my email was incorrect in the last mail.
Hi all,
is there a sql 2k thread. Am interseted in finding out what the largest database size of a sqlserver database people have worked with.
We have a 1.2 Terabyte db with about 150-200 million new rows being processed everyday. Would like to share some thoughts on this with other people who are working with this much data and what they are doing with it.

I am using SqlServer 2000 and Jdbc connectivity in my application on windows.So, when i execute a query on Sqlserver database as :
Select * from DBO.RS_TABLELOB where Rep_sync_id > 15 and Rep_server_name != 'replicator' order by Rep_sync_id;
This problem is only with the BLOB data types in table RS_TABLELOB.
Then i got an error as:

Hi,
This question may be a bit naive but I have some data that I would like to transfer from a SQL 7 database to a DB2 database on Linux. Does anyone know how I would go about doing this. I have in the past transferred data from SQL 7 to Oracle and SYBASE using DTS without any difficultly. I cannot remember exactly but presume they were on NT.
Anyone got any ideas/suggestions.
Many thanks

I am trying to export the data from a number of MSSQL 2000 tables to UTF8 csv files.
Using the bcp that came with MSSQL 2000 didn't work (UTF8 related), so I am now accessing the 2000 database from within MSSQL 2008 R2 Management Studio and use its Import and Export wizard that does make UTF8 exports possible.
But it fails. This is the error I got for one table.
Code:
- Validating (Error)

Error 0xc00470d4: Data Flow Task 1: The code page on input column "cmsGUID" (74) is 1252 and is required to be 65001. (SQL Server Import and Export Wizard)
Error 0xc00470d4: Data Flow Task 1: The code page on input column "PublicationStatus" (79) is 1252 and is required to be 65001. (SQL Server Import and Export Wizard) ....
What do I have to do?

I am trying to import data from SQL 2000 to SQL 2005
The Data schemas are the same in both (tables, relationships, key and triggers).
Using the wizard I am trying to import data from SQL 2000 to SQL 2005. The issue I face is to manage the Idenity columns. I do not want the identity values from the SQL 2000 DB which may be at say 5000, instead I want to use the identity values from the SQL 2005 database which will problably start at 1
Is there a way to do this, should I use a custom query instead of a direct table dump. If using a custom query do I need to just specify a Select query or does it have to be a specific "INSERT INTO Table ..." type query
If I do import the data directly with Identity "ON" how can I advance the identity column value to current +1 on the SQL 2005 table.
Thanks

I am trying to 'load' a copy of a SQLServer 2000 database to SQLServer 2005 Express (on another host). The copy was provided by someone else - it came to me as a MDF file only, no LDF file.
I have tried to Attach the database and it fails with a failure to load the LDF. Is there any way to bypass this issue without the LDF or do I have to have that?
The provider of the database says I can create a new database and just point to the MDF as the data source but I can't seem to find a way to do that? I am using SQL Server Management Studio Express.
Thanks!!

I have an app that uses a sqlserver 2000 jdbc driver to connect to a sqlserver 2000.
Is it possible to do a direct replacement of sqlserver 2000 with sqlserver 2005 express just by reconfiguring the app to point to the express? The app would still be using the sqlserver 2000 jdbc driver to try and make the connection.
If that is a possibility, what can be some differences in the configuration? Previously with 2000 the config information I entered is:
server name: "machinename"( or ip). I've also tried "machiname/SQLEXPRESS"
DB name: name of db instance
port: 1433(default)
user and pass.
My attempts so far results in
"java.sql.SQLException: [Microsoft][SQLServer 2000 Driver for JDBC]Error establishing socket."
and
"java.sql.SQLException: [Microsoft][SQLServer 2000 Driver for JDBC]Unable to connect. Invalid URL."
