I have an access application that gets used by people on the road.
They put data into a local table and occasionally log into our network and transfer a file to a temp table in SQL.
How is the best way to approach this?
Hello E'body
I have an application with MSAccess as front end and SQLServer as backend. have quite a bit of tables. i wanted to write a stored procedure which exports a SQL Server table (both Structure & Data) to a new Access MDB file. i know with the use of DTS its possible but i need to code it down. i need to perform this at runtime. so can anybody help.
Its urgent.

Scenario :
SQL table has 2 columns SQ1, SQ2
Excel sheet has three columns : EX1, EX2, EX3
SQ1 matches with EX2
SQ2 matches with EX3
I would like to insert the rows where EX1='X'. EX1 is the left most column in th Excel sheet.
Here's what I am trying. Could you suggest any changes/suggestions?
-- Link server logic
IF EXISTS (SELECT srv.name FROM sys.servers srv WHERE srv.server_id != 0 AND srv.name = N'Config_spreadsheet_load')EXEC master.dbo.sp_dropserver @server=N'Config_spreadsheet_load', @droplogins='droplogins'
GO
--This is the link logic to connect the spreadsheet to the database
sys.sp_addlinkedserver 'Config_spreadsheet_load',
Excel',
'Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0',
In : @ExcelfileName,
'excel 8.0;
IMEX=1;
GO
-- Insert Plan Codes, for the column (PLC_NEW_COL) marked as ‘X’
insert into Plan_code (SQ1,
SQ2)
-- **** How can I have the logic for checking EX1='X'
where PLC_NEW_COL like ‘X’
-- Once the data has been created, clean-up
Hi all,
Hopefully I am posting this question in the correct forum. I am still learning about SQL 2005. Here is my issue. I have an access db that I archive weekly into and SQL server table. I have used the dst wizard to create an import job and initally that worked fine. field I have as the primary key in the access db cannot be the primary key in the sql table since I archive weekly and that primary key field will be imported several time over. I overcame this initally by not having a primary key in the sql table. This table is strictly for reference. However, now I need to setup a unique field for each of the records in the sql table. What I have done so far is create a recordID field in the sql table that is an int and set as yes to Identify (auotnumber). That worked great and created unique id for all existing records. The problem now is on the import. When I try to import the access table i am getting an error because of the extra field in the sql table, and the error is saying cannot import null value into this field. So... my final question is how can I import the access table into the sql table with one extra field which is the autonumber unique field? Thanks a bunch for any asistance.

I have several dbs I export to Access each month and have not had this problem before. When I try exporting now, I get the message "cannot convert between unicode and non-unicode string data types". I know I can change the data type from varchar to nvarchar to correct this but there are dozens and dozens of tables in these dbs and changing all of them is not an option. Any suggestions first to how to accomplish the export and second why this is suddenly happening. I run SQL Server 2005 Standard and keep my updates current on my OS's and applications.
Thanks,
Dave
Has anyone else exported data to Access? If so, is it a slow process in SQL Server 2005?
I am exporting 3,000 records to an Access database using a view and it has taken 20 minutes. I am using the Export Data wizard. Any tips on how to speed it up would be appreciated.
Hi,
Want to export the data from SQL2K5 into MS Access 2003.
Anyone, can guide me how to proceed with this.

Hi There
I have an SQL database which I need to export into Access, I know how to this however the Primary Key's does not transfer over and more importantly once exported I cannot set the primary key to auto number as their is already information in the table.
I know I can just set up the table, with a primary key set to an autonumber and import the other fields but as the primary key's are foreign keys in other tables I need the rows in the access table to have the same ID number as in the SQL database.
Hope the above makes sense to someone and any help would be greatly appreciated.
Hi folks
I´ve a simple doubt (I hope) ... is it possible export the results from a simple query to a ms access file using just the query analyser??? I´m using SQL Server 2000 and MS Access XP
thanks for your help!!!
Hello,
I'm using SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services. I'm having an issues when exporting to Excel. I'm using URL Access to generate the report and display it in a browser window. I then choose Excel and click the Export link. Doing this opens a temporary browser window and then a dialog that asks if I want to save the report or open it. If I choose to open it, the report opens in Excel without problem. The problem is that the temporary browser window doesn't go away (close) automatically like it should. What makes this a little more strange is that this behavior only seem to occur on a Windows XP computer. If I run the report from a Windows 2000 or Windows Server 2003 computer, the temporary browser windows closes automatically (and the report is exported to Excel and opened).
Has anyone experienced this same issue?
Does anyone know how to "fix" this issue so that exporting to open right away always closes the temporary browser window?
Thanks.
i am trying to exporting sql 2000 to ms access 2003 with relationship also exported to access as well as the data.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to set up a linked table from SQL Server 2005 to MS Access. The .mdb file resides on a network share and I'm unable to connect to it. If i copy the database to a folder on the server that SQL is installed, it works fine. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Below is the error message that I'm receiving.

I have a stored proc that runs and produces an Excel 2007 file. I can run it fine within SQL Server Management Studio.
Basically, this is a partial code in the stored proc:
-- export sql server table data to excel 2007
insert into OPENROWSET('microsoft.ace.oledb.12.0',
'Excel 12.0;Database=D: emp est2007.xlsx;',
'SELECT * FROM LicensesrRegion') select * from Licenses
BUT when I have an execute SQL task to run that stored proc in an SSIS package, I received the following error:
Ad hoc access to OLE DB provider 'microsoft.ace.oledb.12.0' has been denied. You must access this provider through a linked server.
Please advise.
PS: I have to run that stored proc in an SSIS package because the SSIS package does some prereq stuff ( create folder, copy template to new Excel output file) then finally calls the aforementioned stored proc.
Thank you in advance.
Thanks!
Can anyone help me import a ms access (97) table into a sql 2005 express database? The sql database already contains other tables but I would like to add some of my older access tables to this database without having to re-enter all the data. Please help! Thanks!

Hi,
I have an Access 2003 front end that contains a number of linked tables on SQL Server 2005 SE. I recreated the application on a second network for testing and was able to use the Linked Table Manager to refresh the database connections. The problem is when I try and add another linked table. I select Link Tables from the menu and then when I select 'ODBC Databases()' from the 'Files of Type' list box, the Link window closes right away.
Any suggestions?
Kind of a weird problem. Just migrated some Access tables to SQL 2005 backend. This is only happening on one users machine, WinXP and Access 2003 with the linked tables to SQL 2005. When they try to run a query that has a date criteria, Access will crash. Any other type of criteria, the query works fine. Things I have tried:
1) Installing Office Service Pack 3
2) Repairing Office 2003
Thanks.

I initially created an Access application within Access 2003 which I subsequently migrated to SQLExpress 2005 (Tables only) using Microsoft SQL Migration Assistance for Access 2003 (SSMAA) and continue to use Access 2003 as a front end, this really was easy and worked perfect. Now I added a new table to my SQLExpress DB and need to link to it from my Access application but can not find a way to do so in the same way that the SSMAA does. I need to run the Access 2003 application in share mode from multiple PC in the LAN. If I try linking to the table using an ODBC connection I can only access from the PC where the link was done! Any ideas? THanks in advance.
View 4 Replies View RelatedHello all.
I was wondering if there was a simple Import statement I could use in SQL to import an Access Table into SQL Server 2005.
I know how to use the SSIS Import/Export Wizard, but that seems excessive to import a single 204 record table
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
Hi all,
I have a MSSQL database running on my SQL 2005 server and I want to export the entire contents to a file as SQL statements with INSERT statements. How do I do this?
I've discovered how to export the contents as a flat comma deliminiated file (although only one table at a time) and how to export the CREATE statements in SQL for each table but so far I cannot find a way to just export the entire DB as SQL.
Thanks!
dBase importing was handled by the import/export tool provide with SQL 2000. I see no way to import .dbf files in sql 2005 except to load the sql 2000 tools. I realize that the dbf format is old, but there is still a lot of stuff that comes in dbf and sql2005 needs to support this.
Where can I find an importer for dbf to sql2005?
I keep hearing lots of work arounds but nothing to explain why a common data format can't be easily imported/exported in sql2005 tools. Whats the deal?
Hi,
I'm developing a web app in .NET 2.0 using SSRS 2000 and 2005. Some of the reports need to be exported directly to PDF when clicked, but the problem is in the fact that the user must select the parameters from the report manager window.
Is there any way to allow the direct export to PDF when generate is clicked, or to limit the options the user has to export to in the report manager.
P.S. If it is possible, I DO NOT want to accomplish this using code.
Thanks,
is it possible to programmatically Export to a text file from SQL 2005 without using exec master..xp_cmdshell?

I'm trying to export a table from SQL7 to Excel. Only thing is that I'd like to specify the Excel spreadsheet filename at run time. The name of the spreadsheet needs to contain the current date e.g. "table1_20011005.xls", "table1_20011006.xls". Is there any way I can do this ? I've looked at DTS but it seems you need to specify the spreadsheet file name and cannot alter it.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been tasked with the following: Export data from old table, to newly created table(s). I say tables because there's three destination tables total, and only two source tables. The two old tables are virtually the same, so the new table will be a combination of the two. More importantly I'll need to chop out some data from the old tables and create new details with them. As you can see, the old table was very "flat" in the sense that they kept adding new fields for bits of detail data (10 for one type of detail, 15 for another type of detail). I'd like to house that data in separate linkable tables. This is an example of the old and new data structure:
OldTable1 (SOURCE)
Name | Acct | Detail1Min | Detail1Max | ~~~ | Detail10Min | Detail10Max | DiffDetail1Min | DiffDetail1Max | DiffDetail1Rate | ~~~ | DiffDetail15Min | DiffDetail15Max | DiffDetail15Rate |
OldTable2 (SOURCE)
Name | Acct | Detail1Min | Detail1Max | ~~~ | Detail10Min | Detail10Max | DiffDetail1Min | DiffDetail1Max | DiffDetail1Rate | ~~~ | DiffDetail15Min | DiffDetail15Max | DiffDetail15Rate |
| | |
| | |
VVV
NewTable (Destination)
AutoID | Name | Acct | TYPE | * Newly created field so I know which table it came from (OldTable1 or OldTable2?)
NewTableDetail (Destination)
AutoID | NewTableID | DetailMin | DetailMax |
NewTableDiffDetail (Destination)
AutoID | NewTableID | DiffDetailMin | DiffDetailMax | DiffDetailMax |
In the new data structure, the AutoID from the main table (NewTable) will link to the two newly created detail tables using NewTableID.

Hi,
I have a windows form in visual studio and am trying to export a table from the local sql database into a excel worlbook. I followed this example: (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307029/en-us) that uses the example northwind mdb database and it worked ,but when I try to change the connection string I get an error
"Multiple-step OLE DB operation generated errors. Check each OLE DB status value, if available. No work was done."
Could anyone let me know the correct way to go about this. My ultimate aim is to export a report.
