I am working on a project to migrate a .net desktop application to web based application using ASP.NET 2.0.
The present app has lots of tables with data in sql server 2000. The new app is to have Oracle 10.2 G as data store.
Although the data store is being changed most of the tables in the present database will remain same along with the data they hold.
My problem is:
1) how to transfer the tables to the new datastore 10.2 G in an automated way?
After all it's not possible to create each table afresh in Oracle and then insert records into each table one by one. If that is done it will take atleast few months if not years.
2) can I export the tables to a xml file and then import it from Oracle.How to do that?
It has become a nightmare for me.
Pls suggest the easiest way and which takes the minimum time.
A solution to the problem will be gratefully accepted.
I am transferring data from Oracle tables into text files, and facing these errors.
1. I have a varaible working as an expression and my query goes into that variable and onwards that variable is passed to dataflow task, which parse the query. my query is simple saying "Select * from PLS.ABC" where PLS is my schema, but the task generates error "Opening a rowset for "Select * from PLS.ABC" failed. check that the table exists in the database. and surely the table is there.
2. I have a foreach loop that iterates through all the table names and the table names are passed onwards to the varaible query, the dataflow task inside the foreach loop gets the variable query and will generate text files based on tablenames which i have supplied in another variable to the connectionstring property of the flatfile destination. Is it possible or not. all the tables have different columns and i need the output in text files.
We are running SQL Server 2000 SP3. We have linked servers in use thatwe use to access Oracle tables.Recently the claim has been made that you can access Oracle tables fromwithin SQL Server without using a Linked Server. I searched BooksOnline using keywords: linked, remote, and Oracle and did not findanything.A search of the newsgroup archives found only entries related to usingLinked Servers.Is there any such method as claimed? All the development was done inOracle, but now its time to create that large datastructure again inMySQL -- now I've built this all in notepad for Oracle (twice) and built itin SQL Server using the SQL Server import tools (pretty nice) -- is thereanything that I can do that to get this datastructure and maybe even thedata into MySQL using Oracle/MS SQL Server tools ?James

Hi All, I am trying to export SQL 7.0 table to oracle 8i using SQL Server export utility. Table gets created in Oracle but no data is exported. Also the oracle table is inaccessible and even doesn't allow me to drop that table.
I am trying to export the result of a select into a .csv file using SQL Server 2000 DTS. The data for varchar fields has leading zeroes in the database, which is very much required in the csv file.
But, the .csv file trims the leading zeroes. How do we force to maintain the same data as in source?
I had used Text File Destination Connection as the destination, with the below options File Extension: .csv File Format: Delimited File Type: ANSI Text Qualifier: Double Quotes ("") Row Delimiter: {CR}{LF} Column Delimiter: comma
Source Data: 0123 Target Data (Requirement): 0123
The data in .csv: 123 (This is the issue)
When I open this file in a Text Editor, I do see the data in double quotes..."0123".
I am getting the error message as "DIAG [00000] [ODBC Access Driver 52.1.150.0] -26 Driver not capable (-26)" at the time of retrieving the catalog infromation by SqlTables methode. it is shown "?" as catalogname but this not supported by odbc access driver. can you please help out how can i resolve using C++ code in SqlTables methode.
I used DTS Export Wizard to copy tables from SQL server 2000 to Oracle 8.1.7. After transfering completed successfully, I loged into oracle and tried to select data from the tables. I got 'table does not exist' error. But when I select table_name from oracle data dictionary, I saw tables exist in oracle. Then I opened SQL Query Analyzer, I can select data from the tables just transfered through linked oracle server.
Does anyone have same experience? Could someone please give me suggestion?
Hi guys, I was given a task to get an Oracle .dmp file into SQL Server. Is it even possible to do? Or do I have to script the Oracle DB and import the DB that way? But then how would I get the data?
I need to get the Oracle structure and the Data over to SQL Server.

I am racking my brain on this one. I am migrating Oracle data to SQL Server and would like an SSIS package that will copy the oracle data from every table to SQL server. I already have the schema set up in SQL and a straight copy of a specified table works fine between the OLEDB source and OLEDB destination. However, when I set up a loop which sets a global variable for the table names, which are identical on both dbs, and try to set the OLEDB Source and Destination OpenRowsetVariable to the global variable, the process fails with these errors with all validation turned off:
[OLE DB Source [18]] Warning: Cannot retrieve the column code page info from the OLE DB provider. If the component supports the "DefaultCodePage" property, the code page from that property will be used. Change the value of the property if the current string code page values are incorrect. If the component does not support the property, the code page from the component's locale ID will be used.
[OLE DB Source [18]] Error: Column "ID" cannot be found at the datasource.
[DTS.Pipeline] Error: component "OLE DB Source" (18) failed the pre-execute phase and returned error code 0xC0202005.
To sum up, I want to set the tables dynamically and have them infer the mappings. The names of the columns are already the exact same on each schema, and the data types are mapped accordingly. I have already verified that the names of the tables have been formatted correctly for each database. If I can't do it this way then how?

I have been asked to look at optimising a Data Migration Strategy for one of our clients. I am quite new to Data Migration (I'm actually a system designer!).
The migration is from a legacy Oracle 7.16 Db to a SQL Server 2000 environment.
The legacy Db has some large tables - 30 Million+ rows
Table/column Mapping is 1:1
At present we are using DTS to import into the SQL environment.
My question is: Is there any way to leverage the Oracle 7.16 export to speed up the migration process?
I would like to export all tables from Oracle 11.2 to MS SQL Server 2012 R1.
Using the tool "Microsoft SQL Server Migration Assistant v6.0 for Oracle" did not work for me because there are too many warnings and errors regarding the schema creation (MS cannot know it because they are not the schema designer). My idea is to leave/skip the schema creation to the application designer/supplier and instead concentrate on the Oracle data export and MS SQL data import.
What is the easiest way to export all tables data from Oracle to MS SQL Server quickly?
Is it:
- the „MS SQL Import and Export Data“ Tool - the “MS SQL Integration Services” Tool - not Oracle dump *.dmp format because it is a propritery binary format - flat file *.csv (delimited format)
I figure this should not be a complex one. I know how to manually pull in data from Oracle 9i into SQL Server 2000 using DTS. However this is my issue.....
I simply want to automate the pulling in of data from 1 table in my ORACLE 9i database into another table in my Sql Server 200. I was hoping I could simple write a stored procedure that would sort of utilize a dblink like in ORACLE and then schedule that procedure. Is this feasible in Sql Server, and how would one go about setting this automated import up????
I've created a small company database where the tables reside in a SQLServer database. I'm using Access 2000 forms for a front end.I've got a System DSN set-up to SQL Server and am using links withinAccess 2000 to get to the SQL Server tables.My forms worked fine until I made a few minor changes to the databaseschema on SQL Server (e.g. added a foreign key, or added a column).After that, all the links break - I click on a table link and get anerror msg like "invalid object name."Deleting the links after a schema change and re-adding the links seemedto fix the problem. The forms I'd already created seemed to work fineafter re-creating the links.But then I got more advanced with my forms. I have it set up so thatfor certain entry fields, the combobox gets populated with values froma table (the description appears in the drop-down and the correspondingprimary key value gets populated in the table). I created a number offorms using this technique, entered data, and everything worked fine.Made a small schema change and it broke everything -- not the actualtable links, but the functionality for the drop-downs. My values nolonger appeared, and this was true for forms that accessed tables whoseschemas did not change.This is driving me nuts. Is there any way to keep my forms frombreaking each time I make a small schema change?Thanks.- Dana

I have a customer that wants to start using SQL Server 7.0 instead of Oracle, but they have a lot of Oracle applications (made in Developer 2000 and Forms). Due to the big effort needed to convert those applications (to Visual Basic), they want to be able somehow to migrate only data from Oracle to SQL Server, and then use some tool that will allow them to use the same applications with the SQL Server 7.0 engine.
I found on the "SQL Server Developer's Kit" a document describing the process of migrating data and applications from Oracle to SQL Server. There is a mention to an Oracle tool called "Oracle Gateway to SQL Server" that will translate calls received by the Oracle engine to the SQL Server engine, but this approach will still require the existence of Oracle servers (which is the thing the customer no longer wants).
The second option mentioned on that document, and the one that seems more attractive, is the use of Oracle "Open Client Adapter" (OCA) that will allow Developer 2000 applications to communicate directly to SQL Server via ODBC. However, I have been unable to find (on the Oracle site) any documentation regarding this tool.
Has anynoe heard or used such tool (OCA) ? Any comments, tips, drawbacks, experience you could share ? Any other idea on how a thing like that could be accomplished ? Perhaps a third-party application that can act as a gateway between the Forms app and ODBC/SQL Server, or that will be able to generate VB code from a Developer 2000/Forms app...

We have a linked server, which worked fine, but we have just changedthe collation sequence, in SQL-Server, fromSQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS to Latin1_General_CI_AS.Now trying to use the Linked server, we get the following message:"Error 7399: OLE DB Provider 'MSDAORA' reported an error. The providerdid not give any information about the error. OLE DB error trace [OLEDB provider 'MSDAORA' IDBInitialize::Initialize returned 0x80004005:The provider did not give any information about the error]."Ha anyone seen this before, because I am not sure why changing thecollation sequence, would affect the Linked Server
1)I created a linked server to a oracle database, works fine. Now I am writing queries, using "Query Desgner", when I do a "Add table" linked server tables do not appear. Is this a limitation. I can get around the problem by creating a view.
2) When I use "Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Oracle" for linked server, some times connection seems to get lost. On one occassion, the next day it was fine, it re-established itself.
I've been tasked with the following: Export data from old table, to newly created table(s). I say tables because there's three destination tables total, and only two source tables. The two old tables are virtually the same, so the new table will be a combination of the two. More importantly I'll need to chop out some data from the old tables and create new details with them. As you can see, the old table was very "flat" in the sense that they kept adding new fields for bits of detail data (10 for one type of detail, 15 for another type of detail). I'd like to house that data in separate linkable tables. This is an example of the old and new data structure:
Not sure if this is the correct Forum, anyway lemme me know your views. I have SQL Server running in two remote machines (in different geographical locations). I need to import a database from one SQL Server installation to another installation. What is best possible solution:
1) Transfering the .mdf and .ldf file from one installation to another installation
2) Generating the records of all the tables in the database to a common file format CSV and then loading it in destination database. If this is ok then how to generate import and export data using CSV format
