While configuring database mirroring in principle server with partner. It shows an error
'Msg 1418, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
The server network address "TCP://mirror:5025" can not be reached or does not exist. Check the network address name and reissue the command.'
But i can telnet mirror 5025 successfully. I have use IP instead but same errror encountered. Any advise on it? Thanks in advance

I can connect to it by using sa only. I need to use SQL login.
I created another user called 'test' and granted with sysadmin server role, but I got following error:

I searched on the internet two days with no luck.
Any idea?

I installed SQL 2005 Developer addition on my Vista laptop. When I open Management Studio to connect to the local instance of the DB, I get the error below. Why can't I access? Is there something with Vista that is prohibiting?

I've two instances(Default, Named[dynamicsFINANCE]) running on SQL server 2014. However, when I try to connect to named instance say (dynamicsFINANCE) using SQL authentication from local SSMS, I get below error message:
A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: -1)
I assigned a static port number to the named instance [dynamicsFINANCE] 1450. I also setup the firewall rule to allow access to Port 1450.
I have a 3 node cluster on which I have installed SSAS as it's own insntance. I have created this as a named instance and can connect to it by serverinstance if I'm on the server itself. However from my desktop I get the error saying instance was not found on server name.
I have defined an alternate port and setup firewall rules and can connect via server:port but not serverinstance. Prior to making this change SSAS was running on default port of 2383 and I could connect just by servername.
I have read many articles for previous versions saying that clustered SSAS will always use 2383 and that you must connect just using servername. However and this is were it gets strange. I have a 2 node UAT cluster with SSAS setup exactly the same way I've described above and I can connect from my desktop as serverinstance.
Should I be able to connect as serverinstances for a named clustered instance in 2012 ?
We have an application running with a principal, mirror, and witness. If we bring the principal server down, it looks like failover occurs successfully, but the application is not able to access the database. If we bring the server back (so it is now functioning as the mirror), the application is now able to connect to the database. Why isn€™t the application able to connect without the mirror up? Any suggestions?
I wrote an application using Visual Studio 2005 beta 2 which uses a SQL Express .mdf file, included in the project, for the database. After installing Visual Studio 2005 RC and the SQL Express that comes with it (I followed all of the uninstall instructions first) I can no longer add a SQL Express database to any of my projects, nor can I open the SQL Express database in my original project. When I try either of these tasks, I get the "Failed to generate user instance of SQL Server due to a failure in starting the process for the user instance. The connection will be closed." I read the thread which dealt with this error, and changed the connection string for the database file that had worked before to User Instance = false. The moment I click Test Connection or OK, I get the error: "An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file C:<path to project>EngSQL.mdf failed. A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share." (<path to project> is actually a full path, I didn't want to type the whole thing out. :) ). A search for this error turns up a solution of setting User Instance = false, which puts me in a catch 22 position.

It states I do NOT have permission on this endpoint, but actually, I grant the permission to the endpoint on both primary and mirror server using command
GRANT CONNECT ON ENDPOINT::Mirroring TO [mydomainmyuser];
Also, I followed the article http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms189127.aspx ,no firewall issue, the endpoint is created and started by checking sys.database_mirroring_endpoints

Mirroring has been working fine on 2 identical servers. We even tested failover and that worked....but today something happened (still investigating) and suddenly the Principal is disconnected and we cannot force failover with:
ALTER DATABASE [LeoCTI] SET PARTNER FORCE_SERVICE_ALLOW_DATA_LOSS
Error: The command failed because the database mirror is busy! Try again later!
How can I bring the principal back online? It won't let me do anything, won't let me turn off mirroring etc. etc.

Process to create snapshot failed (twice per day snapshot of the database is being created for some people to work on). Morning snapshot worked fine but the afternoon one failed. The snapshot is being created from Mirror database. I used this code:

Got windows Vista Business edition, installed Visual Web Developer Express, SQL Server 2005 Express SP2, SQL Server Management Studio SP1 in that order. I was developing in VWD express without problems using WinXP but now on Vista Business, the local connection to SQL server appears to be a problem.
I know there's nothing wrong with my web.config or anything like that as it was working perfectly prior to running under Vista. If i specify the database on the live website, it works fine. If I specify the test database in app_data folder, I get the following exception:-

I am taking a guess it's somerthing to do with access issues, but can't find anything out on searching the forums etc..
I am setup as an administrator, running VWD as an administrator and for the record, SQL Server Management Studio express works fine.
Another small issue, when I run the application from VWD, I always have to minimise the application and restore it as the graphics get corrupt.
Please help!! I cannot debug when running of the live website.
As a starter i tried to modify and translate the Personal Website Starters kit from the VS2005Team SDK.
When i'm working on the machine were it's installed , under debugging, all works great.

Hello everyone,
I am new in .NET development and currently trying to learn VWB through Microsoft online tutorials.
Here is the problem that prevents me from getting further:
in VWB, when you right click App_Data and chose "Add New Item" and then select SQL database, the following error message is displayed:
"Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to a failure in starting the process for the user instance. The connection will be closed."
If I cancel out of it, it does generate mdf file under App_Data folder in Solution Explorer, but when I try to open it, it says:
"The item does not exist in the Web directory. t may have been moved, renamed or deleted." and that is where the whole sharade deadends.
I can connect via mycomputersqlexpress under Data Connections in Database Explorer (it then adds "master.dbo" to the path) and then create custom tables, but that is not the same, isn't it? I mean, this will not integrate my database tables through default configuration that I am trying to follow?
All this happens on local machine.

I was able to do do this before until Saturady when I had to re-install sql server, and express etc due to some system problem on my xp Pro PC. What have I misconfigured?
I do see the service SQL Serer(SQLEXPRESS) started under Network Service and SQL Serfver(MSSQLSERVER) started under local system.
My power user ID does have modify access to the sql 90 database folders. and to the mdf.
No wonder Microsoft is giving it away for free. It€™s not worth anything. I am very disappointed in this version of SQL server. I decided to start learning VB so I downloaded and installed VB 2005 express edition and SQL 2005 express. I tried to build a personal website using the starter kit. I went out and bought the Standard version of VS 2005 thinking there may be a feature that the free express version is lacking. I uninstalled the express version, cleaned the registry, deleted all the folders it created and installed the Standard edition. Then I tried to create a personal web using the starter kit and it does the same thing again.
I can not create a database file, connect to a database file. I can not create or attach a database on the SQL 2005 express from VS 2005. The SQL server Express seems to be working OK since I can attach to it using Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express. There is something about the way VS tries to connect to the database server that is not working. VB does recognize the local computer as a SQL server but can not connect to it.
SQL server is set to accept Shared memory, TCP/IP and named pipes for local clients.
What is causing this?

I am now to programming but nor computer illiterate. I have been working with MS SQL servers since version 6.5 and have MCSE, Network+, A+ and Security plus certifications. Installing and using VS should not be this problematic. What is wrong with Microsoft?

Using ODBC we can connect to the SQL Engine on the SQL Server on the remote LAN and all accounts used are correct, to my knowledge I have installed OLE DB Provider for Analysis Services 9.0 but configured nothing. Can anyone explain where I can set up a connection to Analysis Sevices via OLE DB, ODBC or any other method required to allow our client to connect. So far I'm unable to see any OLAP connection methods in ODBC, only SQL Server or Native SQL.

I installed it as a default instance.
I recently added a login with dbo privileges. I have tried logging in with that sql account and also with windows authentication to no avail.

Generally I install SQL 2005 using the Default Instance Name. When asked for the SQL server (setting up the ODBC connection) I simply enter the name of the server.
I now have installed a new SQL 2005 server, and I gave it a unique Instance Name.
When asked for the SQL server (setting up the ODBC connection) what name do I enter? I assume it has to be more than the server name as the SQL server is unique. What format do I use to enter the unique name of the SQL db?

Yesterday I was able to connect to the server, and now it's telling me I can't log in via the SQL Server manager.
the database has a red stop signal on it, and I'm not sure what caused this.
I did install Windows XP IIS (Internet Information Services) yesterday. Could this have caused this?
How do I get the database started again?

Hi all,I'm having some trouble with connecting to SQL server instance latelywithout adding a port number. I used to be able to always connect toinstance without having to input SQLSERVER,portnumber. However nowthis is not the case. I doing this through an ADO connection object,and creating the connection string. Does anyone know if there was arecent Microsoft update or patch that would've cause this to stopallowing me to connect to a SQL instance without having to put in theport information? Thanks.

I have a requirement to connect to a user instance of sql express from a visual basic 6.0 project. I'm having trouble with my connection string.
I'm able to connect with my connection string to sql express:

and the get user instance name:

but don't know how to query the instance name. Currently, I am returning the user instance name in a function. My questions are:
1. Is there any parameter for the user instance name in the connection string?
2. To attach and detach, what providers are available?
3. Using the Provider=SQLNCLI, is the AttachDBFileName parameter optional if I supply the database?
4. What is best recommended practice for querying a user instance from application code in vb6?
5. Are there any articles that specifically describe how to query a user instance if the dbfilename path is dynamic?
Sorry if my questions are not clear. I'm new to microsoft programming (coming from Lotus/Domino)

When I try to connect to a default Express instance in Management Studio at the machine (Windows XP SP2) where the instance is installed, I'm getting the following error:

What does provider: SQL Network Interfaces mean? Does it mean the Shared Memory, Named Pipes and TCP/IP?
Additional information:
1. The following Network Protocols are enabled: Shared Memory, Named Pipes, TCP/IP thru Configuration Manager
2. SQL Server Express default instance is running using NT
AUTHORITYNetworkService.
3. SQL Server Browser service is not running. I believe this is not needed unless I want to connect to the instance from another machine.
4. Has tried to disable Windows Firewall but I believe it should not be matter in this particular case since this is within the same machine.
5. Can connect to the instance in ODBC Administrator using System DSN thru Named Pipes or TCP/IP.
Can such error caused by not having sufficient memory so the system is running kind of slow?

I've a simple 2 nodes clusters active/passive with SQL2005SP2, using a named instance.
I can access from a remote workstation using <servername>,Port# but not <servername><instance>
Any idea why?
SQLBrowser is running and protocol is enable.
If starting sqlbrowser.exe -c I see the request but there don't seem to be any response.

I have two domains setup with two way trust in place. SQL server 2005 is installed in domain A.
Is it possible to log in to SQL server using machine account of a machine in domain B?
I have been told that you cannot access SQL server from another domain using machine account. But I cannot find any resource or references about it.
If this isn't the right MSDN forum for this I apologize, but any advice would be greatly appreciated.
