Failed To Start SQL Mail Session In Enterprise Manager
Jun 5, 2001
I cannot understand why I cannot get my sql mail to work properly. It was working fine a couple of days ago. My mail profile is setup using Outlook. The only problem is that when I go to services and check the Mssqlserver & sqlserveragent, they are now logging in as the system account, but when I attempt to change them to the administrator account it says error 1057 occured: the account name is invalid or does not exist, yet it does. Anyone have any idea how to rectify this? this is what is on the error log:Error: 17919, Severity: 18, State: 1
2001-06-05 14:09:16.33 ods Invalid session..
2001-06-05 14:09:16.34 ods Error: 17951, Severity: 18, State: 1
2001-06-05 14:09:16.34 ods Failed to start SQL Mail session..
Thanks,
Jerry

Hello I am receiving the dreaded mail error listed above. I can send out a test E-mail from Enterprise Manager to operators, but I cannot run this Transact query:
EXEC master.dbo.xp_sendmail @RECIPIENTS = araz***@***.com(removed email address),
@SUBJECT = 'test'
I receive:
Server: Msg 18025, Level 16, State 1, Line 0
xp_sendmail: failed with mail error 0x80040111
I have stopped/restarted the SQL SERVER AGENT but haven't done much else as I haven't been able to.
Should it work through transact SQL if the test email works from Enterprise Manager?
This is SQL 2000 SP4 running on Win2K in the domain. Thank you.

SQL Server Enterprise Manager could not start the service 'MSDTC' on server'NTAS21'.1722 - (The RPC server is unavailable)I Setup A publication on a server called NTAS4D, then Pushed TheSubscription to another server called NTAS21. If I configure so that thechanges at the subscriber are not replicated to the publisher, all works ok,I make a change at the publisher, it is replicated to the subscriber. If I configure for updating at the subscriber, I am presented with a screenstating that the following services must be started for replication to work:SQL Server Agent on NTAS4D - RunningMSDTC on NTAS4D - RunningMSDTC on NTAS21 - UnknownWhen I complete the wizard, I receive the message listed above. The Servers are in two separate locations, each behind a NAT enabled routerusing the internet to transfer data between the publisher and subscriber.Any Suggestions will be greatly appreciated.ThanksSteve

Hey guys..
Trying to insert a row via Enterprise Manager I get "object does not exist" error.. However it works on another server?!?
The table name is aa.aabc .. So i know what the problem is.. it thinks that aa is the owner.. I can insert using query analyzer by using the following syntax: insert into [aa.aabc] ... but it fails using: insert into aa.abc .. for obvious reasons..
I'm guessing it has something to do with the differences in the server config between the 2 servers as to why one server you can insert via enterprise manager and the other you cant..
The collation is different as the ANSI warning and padding in the connection info..
Can anyone else help me fix this problem, so that I can insert using enterprise manager?
Cheers

Hi,
I have SQL Server 2000 with SP4. When we take backup from Enterprise manager its fails with error "timeout expired". But when we take backup from query analyzer it works.
It seems that through enterprise manager 30 sec is the non configurable timeout parameter set. Checked sysprocesses table during backup but there was no blocking during that time at least for that spid.
Is there a way to find out which process is blocking the database backup? Also, what are the possible scenarios where database backup can be blocked.
Thanks,
Ramesh

I call a stored proc from an ASP page that eventually makes a call to xp_sendmail to email a confirmation back to our visitor. It all works fine as long as the Exchange Server hasn't crashed and therefore, rendered the SQL Mail session dead. Unfortunately, when this happens (which has been all too often recently), the web visitor gets the following message:
Number: -2147217900
Description: [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]SQL Mail session is not started.
SQLState: 37000
Native Error: 17966
Is there a way I can check for this in the stored proc that calls xp_sendmail so I could still return to the ASP page and prevent the web visitor from seeing this error.
I've searched high and low to no avail.
Thanks,
Laura Stamps

Hi,
Is there any way to use different email accounts for sql mail dynamically on sql server 2000?
Here is the problem:
My sql server is configured to start mail session under account 'xxnotifyxx'.
There are many jobs scheduled to run queries and send out emails to different user groups within the company as well as outside the company from 'xxnotifyxx' as a sender.
However, one of the usergroup within the company is asking for sending out their emails ( from scheduled tasks that uses xp_sendmail ) using 'publishergroup' as a sender.
As far as I know, this is not possible (sql server 2000, exchange 2000 client win2000 ) until I change the mail session configuration to start under 'publishergroup' in stead of 'xxnotifyxx'. If I do this, 9 other groups have problems with this.
Is there a work around for this kind of situation?
Thanks,
Shaili

Hi All,
Great forum y'all have going here.
Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this?
Enterprise Manager:
I have setup and 'sucessfully tested a MAPI session' with a mail profile via support services > sql mail. That works fine, however in sql server agent properties the mail session section on the first general tab appears to be greyed out.
scenario is:
Windows Server 2003 SBS edition
SQL Server 2000 SP3
Exchange Server 2003 is also running on the server, with Outlook 2003 client (so i suspect side chaining issue).
Any help appreciated! did not have any luck googling or using microsoft KB.

On one of our machines, all of the SQL Server 2000components except for the main Server component (SQL Servercore) itself were installed (Management tools, etc) a while agoand everything was running fine. Now I go and add/install theServer component and then Service Pack 3a.It seems that Service Manager won't start up (I get an hourglass cursor)and now I find that Enterprise Manager won't run as well. No errormessages appeared and I don't think I saw anything unusual inthe log file. However, I can use Enterprise Manager on a differentmachine and connect to the database (so the databaseitself seems to be running).Any suggestions as to what the problem might be and how tofix it? I like to see if I can repair this without havingto do a reinstall.Thanks.PF

Hello, experts!
On Sunday, as part of routine maintenance, we had to shut down our clustered servers. When we tried to bring them back up, they would not recognize our array unless we disabled the cluster service. It was agreed that we should disable the cluster service (it's caused nothing but problems due to poor implementation and vendor software support), but now we're having difficulties with SQL Server. We're having several "small" problems (i.e. unable to remove our old instance of SQL Server), but the main issue is that our client cannot connect to our server. They are able to ping us and connect to our development database (not affected by the failure), but cannot connect to the production database. Currently, the most obvious difference between production and development is that development displays a green icon (running) for both Distributed Transaction Coordinator and Full-Text Search in Support Services (Enterprise Mgr), whereas production has a red (stopped) icon for both. Also, we previously identified that MSDTC was not running and that it was inaccessible in Component Services, so we uninstalled and reinstalled. We were then able to access MSDTC in Component Services. That said, when I attempt to start DTC or Full-Text Search in Support Services, I receive the following error message:
An error 1722 - (The RPC server is unavailable) occurred while performing this service operation on the MSDTC service.
I've troubleshot this error message and verified that both RPC and DTC are started in the Services menu, that both services are set to start automatically and that both are using "Network Service" login. At this point, I have no idea what could possibly be causing this problem or if this could even be related to our client's inability to connect to our SQL database. We're running SQL Server 2000 SP4 on Win Server 2003 Dell machines. Any assistance is much appreciated.
Thanks!
