Find Out If An ID Is Tied To Multiple Id's In Another Table
Oct 27, 2007
Table 1
stock
stock_id
cat_id
stock_name
is_fund
Table 2
Fund_contents
fund_id
stock_id
I need to find out all the stock_id's from the stock table that are associated with 2 different fund_id's in the second table and the stock_id's in the first table have to have is_fund = 0 from the stock table
any ideas?

I am needing to take data from one data set that consists of a list of parts and their stock information. Then I am needing to show any transactions that the individual parts may have had during the time that user defined through the filters.
This requires me to have two data sets since I can't do a join between the stocking information and the transactions due to the fact that it is very possible that every part won't have a transaction for each month of each year. Doing a left join still filters down the data too much so thus the need for two data sets.
I have these parameters:
Vendor, Year, Month, Type of request
Vendor and Type of Request is handled through StockInfoDataset. I then need to update the table showing 0 or transaction amount from TransactionDataset filtered by the ItemNumber and WarehouseCode that is in StockInfoDataset. Since it seems List and Table only allow one dataset in them, I am at a loss as to how I would go about doing this.
Explaining this is quite difficult in a forum post, but hopefully someone would be able to shine some light on possibly avenues to follow here....thank you in advance.

I'm a total newb to SQL so I apologize if I butcher the description of what I'm looking to do :) Hopefully the example makes more sense. Is it possible for a single record in 1 table to contain relationships to several records in a different table?
What I've got so far is 2 tables - Hardware and Software, with ID Specifying primary keys HardwareID and SoftwareID respectively. the hardware records are for computer details and the software obviously are for programs. What I need to be able to do is pull up a hardware record and be able to see what software is installed on it, and vice versa pull up a software record to see which computers it's installed on. The problem I'm running into is that a computer can have multiple programs installed on it and a program can be installed on multiple computers, so I don't know how to create that relationship to account for that.
What I'd like to see is in the Hardware table a column for SoftwareID that has a foreign key relationship to the SoftwareID field in the Software Table, and vice versa....My question though is is that possible to do and have potentially multiple separate records it links to from that same column field? I might have a computer with say Windows XP Pro, Office 2003 Standard, Adobe Acrobat 8 and a proprietary rate calculator program that i need each to be displayed with their details when I open that computer's record. Or on the software side if I need to see which computers a license is already installed on then I want to make sure I can pull up the full list of computers.
And finally if what I'd like to do isn't possible as I described it...any recommendations for a better way?
Thanks all for the help!

I have one table with two columns, GUID and PID and another table with three columns, GUID, LastName, and FirstName. For each unique PID, I need to find the PID's that have more than one GUID and then match that with their respective FirstName and LastName from the other table.
Table1
GUID PID
GUID1 PID1
GUID1 PID1
GUID1 PID1
GUID2 PID1
GUID3 PID2
GUID3 PID2
GUID3 PID2
Table2
GUID LastName FirstName
GUID1 Mulder Fox
GUID2 Scully Dana
GUID3 Skinner Walter
So I'm looking for a result like:
PID1 GUID 1 Mulder Fox
----- GUID 2 Scully Dana

I am trying to find books which have the same title and publisher name as at least two other books and need to also show the book ref (ISBN number). I have the below script so far:
SELECT isbn, title, publishername
FROM book
WHERE title in (SELECT title
FROM book
GROUP BY title
HAVING count(title)>2 or count(publishername)>2)
order by title;
This is a snap shot of the output:
ISBN Title Publishername
0-1311804-3-6 C Prentice Hall
* 0-0788132-1-2 C OSBORNE MCGRAW-HILL
* 0-0788153-8-X C OSBORNE MCGRAW-HILL
* 0-9435183-3-4 C Database Development MIS
* 1-5582806-2-6 C Database Development MIS
[Code] ....
What I should be seeing is only the ones I have put an * next to. What am I missing from the scrip?

I created a CTE which finds a subset of records from a table
I then ran a SELECT statement against the same table as
SELECT * FROM TABLE
EXCEPT (SELECT * FROM CTE)
Is it possible to add another EXCEPT statement after the CTE EXCEPT statement to cover a condition not incorporated in the CTE definition?

I have a situation where for a given customer, their invoices need to be sequentially numbered, without gaps.
Customer A Invoice 1,2,3,4 ...
A-1
A-2
A-3
A-4
Customer B:
B-1
B-2
etc.
The issue is 2 people creating an invoice for the same customer at the same time. Currently I don't assign the Invoice number until the user hits 'Save'. At that time I query for max(invoiceno) against the customer key and simply add 1. it's the last operation prior to saving against the backend.
If 2 users hit Save at the exact time, I'm getting the same (duplicated) Invoice Number.
What suggestions/techniques do you have to resolve this? Would "locking" of the customer record and storing the last highest invoice there play a part?
Thanks,
Peter

I'm currently setting up a Tabular Model to do some research between several fact tables. In this example i have two fact tables (table 1 and table 2) which I've created a 1 to 1 relationship on phone number. Typically I create a relationship between these tables to find common data between the two. However, in this case I am trying to figure out the best way to model the data so that I can easily surface data from one table that does not exist in the other. I would liken this to a LEFT JOIN or a WHERE NOT EXISTS in SQL.
Table 1 has all of the data and Table 2 Only has a subset of the data from Table 1. What I'm trying to do here is display what attributes in Table 1 may play a part in records not existing in Table 2. What is the best way to model this?

I have table 'stores' that has 3 columns (storeid, article, doc), I have a second table 'allstores' that has 3 columns(storeid(always 'ALL'), article, doc). The stores table's storeid column will have a stores id, then will have multiple articles, and docs. The 'allstores' table will have 'all' in the store for every article and doc combination. This table is like the master lookup table for all possible article and doc combinations. The 'stores' table will have the actual article and doc per storeid.
What I am wanting to pull is all article, doc combinations that exist in the 'allstores' table, but do not exist in the 'stores' table, per storeid. So if the article/doc combination exists in the 'allstores' table and in the 'stores' table for storeid of 50 does not use that combination, but store 51 does, I want the output of storeid 50, and what combination does not exist for that storeid. I will try this example:
'allstores' 'Stores'
storeid doc article storeid doc article
ALL 0010 001 101 0010 001
ALL 0010 002 101 0010 002
ALL 0011 001 102 0011 002
ALL 0011 002
So I want the query to pull the one from 'allstores' that does not exist in 'stores' which in this case would the 3rd record "ALL 0011 001".

One of my varchar columns in a table has multiple key words enclosed in a pattern of special characters.
Eg: William Shakespeare was an English [##poet##], [##playwright##], and [##actor##], widely regarded as the greatest [##writer##] in the English language and the world's pre-eminent [##dramatist##]. He is often called England's national [##poet##] and the "Bard of Avon". His extant works, including some collaborations, consist of about 38 plays, 154 [##sonnets##], two long narrative [##poems##], and a few other [##verses##], of which the authorship of some is uncertain. His plays have been translated into every major living language and are performed more often than those of any other [##playwright##].
I need to write to query to find all distinct key words that are enclosed within [## and ##]. My query should yield the following results from the string in the example above
[##actor##]
[##dramatist##]
[##playwright##] -- 2 occurrances, but I need it only once in my result set
[##poems##]
[##poet##] -- 2 occurrances, but I need it only once in my result set
[##sonnets##]
[##verses##]
[##writer##]
I need to run this on a large table, so I am looking for the best possible way to minimize any performance issues.
Just give you sample code, I have provided below 2 separate snippets, one with table variable and another with temp table.
DECLARE @MyTable TABLE (MyString VARCHAR (8000))
INSERT @MyTable VALUES ('William Shakespeare was an English [##poet##], [##playwright##], and [##actor##], widely regarded as the greatest [##writer##] in the English language and the world''s pre-eminent [##dramatist##]. He is often called England''s national [##poet##] and the "Bard of Avon". His extant works, including some collaborations, consist of about 38 plays, 154 [##sonnets##], two long narrative [##poems##], and a few other [##verses##], of which the authorship of some is uncertain.

So if the latest InvoiceDate is for a given AcctNum is B then returnthat row.123 B 01/02/2005Would not be returned because the max Invoice date for AcctNum 123 isProdCode C.345 B 01/02/2005Would be returned because the max Invoice date for AcctNum 345 is ProdCodeB.I can solve this using a cursor fairly easily by using a distinct AcctNum inthe cursor select and getting the max InvoiceDate for each AcctNum. This isa costly and I'm looking for a solution using temp tables or a query tohandle this problem.I hope I have made this clear enough (sorry if I was too verbose). Thanks inadvance for your help.-p

Dear all experts,
I need to find out some property of a tableAs following sql statement:
select mtable.name,mcolumn.name,mtype.name,mcolumn.is_identity
from sys.tables mtable, sys.all_columns mcolumn, sys.types mtype
where mcolumn.object_id = mtable.object_id
and mcolumn.system_type_id = mtype.system_type_id
and mtable.name in ('TestTable')
order by mtable.name,mcolumn.column_id
But there is no PK information.
Follwing sql statement shows the PK name of a table, but no composite info(which fields):
select mtable.name,mkey.name
from sys.key_constraints mkey, sys.tables mtable
where mkey.parent_object_id = mtable.object_id
and mkey.type = 'PK'
and mkey.name like 'TestTable'
How can I find which fields are PK in a table?thanks...

Hi,
I have table which stores the fund name and its data. We get quarterly information from the fund co. Suppose if the user wants to add a fund thats not in our database we let then add a ClientFundId and a FundName. But may be after sometime the fund company may add that fund in the next quarter.. So how do i get rid of Duplicated Data..
In the ClientFundId column we can a 9 letter Aplhanumeric or a 5 letter character but if the fund co.. provides those values the 5 letter characters are stored in Ticker column and the 9 letter words are stored in Cusip column.. So i just wrote this query hoping i could retrieve the duplicate values but it didnt list any..but i found one this is my query..
Select
FundId,
Cusip,
Ticker,
ClientFundId,

Hello,
I have 2 tables, and use objectdatasource and stored procedures, with sql server.
Let say in the first table I have IDCustomer as a datakey, and other records, and in the second I have the same IDCustomer and CustomerName. I have an INSERT stored procedure that will create a new record in the first table (so generate a new IDCustomer value), and I would like to insert immediately this new value in the second table.
How can I know the value of this new IDCustomer ? What is the best way to handle that ? Once the insert in the first table is done should read it the table and extract (with an executescalar) the value and then insert it in the second table ? This solution should work but I am not sure this is the best one.
Thanks for your help.

I'd like to know if I can make one proc/cursor that I can pass only a table name and it will determine what cols exist in the table?
AND, what is the syntax for such a query?
I will be receiving data back where I will receive the accountID and only the deltas will have values all other columns will be null.
My proc will update an existing record, updating the specific col when an accountID exists, it will create a new record if the accountID does not exist.
I'd like to search all the cols getting their names and values when not null.
I can construct a proc for each table searching each col by known name.
However, I'd like to know if I can make one proc/cursor that I can pass only a table name and it will determine the cols?
All my tables start with cols AccountID and end with RecID with any number of cols inbetween.
