View 1 RepliesHello,I am porting a stored procedure from Oracle. It uses a variable thatremembers its previous values from each invocation. (It uses a PRAGMAREFERENCES clause for those who are familiar with Oracle.) In otherwords, the variable in a particular stored procedure acts as a globalvariable. So the each invocation of the stored procedure can see itslast value, instead of its initial default value.Is there something similar in SQLServer?
View 1 Replies View RelatedHi,
Can we create our own system global variable using @@ in Sql server 2000?
If yes, can you please post in the sql code with it?
Alos, is the system global variables are kwywords in Sql or they can be updated?

Howdy all,
I am looking for a good global find and replace utility for SQL Svr. I have tried the Speed Ferret demo which seemed to work well but did not address code outside of the databases such as DTS. Does anybody know of a utility that can go beyond databases?
Thanks

View 3 Replies View RelatedHello all,
Being a relative newbie to large scale MSSQL development, I'd like to try and find out if there is some sort of utility, command or stored proc that I can use to globally change all text within my database's stored procedures.
For example... I would like to change a table name from dbo.xtable... to dbo.ytable... Is this possible?
Actually, I'd be happy with some way to search through all my stored procs to find a specific string (i.e. xtable in the example above).
Any help provided will be greatly appreciated!

I tried all the INFORMATION_SCHEMA on SQL 2000 andI see that the system tables hold pretty much everything I aminterested in: Objects names (columns, functions, stored procedures, ...)stored procedure statements in syscomments table.My questions are:If you script your whole database everything you end up havingin the text sql scripts, are those also located in the system tables?That means i could simply read those system tables to get any informationI would normally look in the sql script files?Can i quickly generate a SQL statement of all the indexes on my database?I read many places that Microsoftsays not to modify anything in those tables and not query them since theirstructure might change in future SQL versions.Is it safe to use and rely the system tables?I basically want to do at least fetching of information i want from thesystem tables rather than the SQL script files.I also want to know if it's pretty safe for me to make changes in thesetables.Can i rename an object name for example an Index name, a Stored Procedurename?Can i add a new column in the syscolumns table for a user table?Thank you
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have built a small application in vs2005 (vb) using system.data.slqserverce building
in the mobile sql engine into my app. I intend to run this on desktop. The app
works fine on my development laptop machine, when i publish it (to a hard disk folder) and run it on another laptop, i get:
'unable to install or run the application. The application requires that assembly system.data.sqlserverce version 9.0.242.0 be installed in the Global Assembly Cache (GAC) first.'
This is my first app in .net so not sure what this means.

VS would take care of stuff like this? Framework 2.0 is installed on the target machine.
Hope im in the right forum for this! if not i apologise

How can I find calls which do not exist in stored procedures and functions?We have many stored procedures, sometimes a stored procedure or function which is called does not exist. Is there a query/script or something that I can identify which stored procedures do not 'work' and which procedure/ function they are calling?I am searching for stored procedures and functions which are still called, but do not exist in the current database.

Hello,
I have a package that copies data FROM an MS Access database table to a SQL Server 2005 table. 'Run64BitRunTime' has been set to 'False'. The package has been saved to SQL Server. I have a Job that runs the package using an operating system command. The following is the command syntax:
€œC:Program Files (x86)Microsoft SQL Server90DTSBinndtexec.exe€? /SQL "RebatesRebates_TotalSecurity" /SERVER bwdbfin1 /MAXCONCURRENT " -1 " /CHECKPOINTING OFF /REPORTING E
I created the package on a machine other than bwdbfin1. I can run the package from Visual Studio. I can run the package from Integration Services. I have sysAdmin rights on bwdbfin1. I've tried running the job using two different proxy accounts and the sql agent account. I have the location of the Access database. No matter what I do, the Job fails with the following error:
The process could not be created for step 1 of job 0xD947EF76ACD96340B12279FEDDC580CE (reason: The system cannot find the file specified). The step failed.
I have an identical package that copies data TO an Access database. The database addressed in that package and this package are in the same location. The 'CreatorName' of both packages is the same. I have logging enabled for every category, but nothing is written to the sysdtslog90 table when the Job runs. I set up error output in the DataFlow task, and have also tried to 'ignore' errors. I have searched the forum, done a web search, and I can't find a reason for the failure.
Is dtexec the file that is not found? If that were the case, then why can a Job run my other package?
Any ideas?
Thank you for your help!

I am working on a .dll which need to access .sdf ( sql server mobile db). In my project, I added a reference "System.Data.SqlServerCe.dll". The dll is located in C:Program FilesMicrosoft Visual Studio 8Common7IDE.
I am able to compile the project. Then I created a Unit project for this dll file. In Unit project, I added the same reference.
Now the magic things happen. The compiling was failed. I got "Error 1 The type 'System.Data.Common.DbConnection' is defined in an assembly that is not referenced. You must add a reference to assembly 'System.Data, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089'. C:VS2005MobileDBUnitMobileDBProjectUnitMobileDB.cs 50 13 UnitMobileDBProject".
I don't understand how come the same .dll could pass in a dll project but failed in unit test project. And I never saw the System.Data.SqlServerCe display in ".Net" Section of Add reference. But in my office, I installed same version of VS2005 for software tester. I could see the System.Data.SqlServerCe display in the ".Net" section of Add Reference.
Please help me to fix this problem. Thanks.
In Management Studio i highlight my query and then click on 'Analyse query in Database Engine Advisor' but i get the following error message: "Failed to connect to an IPC Port: The system cannot find the file specified". Seems like if I reboot my computer it works one time then get the same error on the second time.I'm running developer edition with service pack 2.
View 8 Replies View RelatedHi,
I have a package which calls another package. It had been working fine for a while. Recently I changed the connection managers' names. Everything in the parent package works fine. Database has been updated correctly. But when it comes to calling the child package it generates :
OnError,CRPRCHMSQCZ,,Execute AMSClientAgentMaintenance,,,3/8/2007 5:49:38 PM,3/8/2007 5:49:38 PM,-1073602332,0x,Error 0x80070002 while preparing to load the package. The system cannot find the file specified.
. (there is a period here instead of a file name)
I tested the child package on the server. It works fine. I connected the child package to the Execute Package Task by selecting from the packages on the server. So it is there for sure. Connection manager's name is read from the .dtsConfig. Child package is executed from my development machine but not on the server. I made a small test package just to call this child package, it generates the same error...
Any help is appreciated

I know there are already several bug submissions on this error, and I am sure the cryptoAPI team is working to resolve this issue.. However... Is it possible that the CAPICOM update (KB931906) could have contributed to this issue? In my instance, I installed SQLServer 2005 Express w/ Adv Tools SP2 after a freash XP install. I checked it out, and everything worked fine. I updated windows (online) and now it gives this error. Since the Microsoft.SqlServer.Express.SQLEditors utilizes a crypto wrapper, givin the error above... would the CAPICOM update have affected things?

Greetings SSIS friends,
I am currently reading Ralph Kimball's "The Microsoft Data Warehouse Toolkit". In the book it mentions creating template packages to speed up the creation of future packages. In the book they also mention creating solutions and projects.
All sounds fair enough but I am confused a little.
Where should the template package be stored?! I created a Project and renamed the default package as "TemplatePackage". I setup some standard data sources and package variables. Do I now create a new package and place it in the same project? Or should my template package be deleted from the project?!
Hope my questions makes sense.
i hear of a feature called TEMPLATES where you can save the data thats entered into any particular Dynamics SL screen and paste the data in to the same screen at a later time (saves time if there is data that is constantly inputed into the same screen over and over). my question is, where are the templates saved at on the hard drive? and can it be opened/edited in notepad or something else if say we want to make changes to the data before pasting/loading it back?

Hi,
I've created a new Stored Procedure template and saved it to .Microsoft SQL Server90ToolsShellTemplatesSqlStored Procedure. I can view (and use) the template via the Template Explorer, however, I want this new template to become my default template.
What do I mean by this? - I want to be able to right-click on stored procedures in my object explorer, click New Stored Procedure, and be forced to use my new template, rather than Create Procedure (New Menu).SQL.
Thanks
Jon Derbyshire
I can't locate them on disk.
TIA,

I've got several templates that we use for creating stored procs and such and they all include a standard header for author and version information. One of the fields is the creation date. Is it possible to have the template automatically populate that field with the current date when a new file is generated from the template?
Thanks.

I just installed SQL2005 (and VS2005). When I run VSSQLCLRTemplates.vsi from the SQLCLR Project all the templates fail to install. It gives the error "Installation stopped because the directory for the ProjectType value did not exist. The project type is invalid for your installation of Visual Studio."
I do have a my documentsvisual studio 2005 directory. I am trying to start writting user defined aggregates. If I can install the templates manually, that'd be fine.
Thanks in advance.
I'm currently working on a project that I'm having some design difficulties with and I was hoping that some of you could help me out. What I'm designing is sort of a webbased directory service based on different custom made templates. Imagine the yellow pages with different column requirements for each branch. Example:
Template: Restaurant
Columns: Name, Adress, TakeAway
Template: DBAForHire
Columns: Name, Adress, YearsExperience
I have designed a few tables that look like this:
DECLARE @templates TABLE
(TemplateID INT IDENTITY(1, 1), TemplateName VARCHAR(50))
DECLARE @attributes TABLE
(AttributeID INT IDENTITY(1, 1), AttributeName VARCHAR(50))
DECLARE @template_attributes TABLE
(TemplateID INT, AttributeID INT)
DECLARE @values TABLE
(ValueID INT IDENTITY(1, 1), TemplateID INT, AttributeID INT, Value VARCHAR(200))
INSERT INTO @templates
SELECT 'Restaurant' UNION ALL SELECT 'DBAForHire'
INSERT INTO @attributes
SELECT 'Name' UNION ALL SELECT 'Adress' UNION ALL
SELECT 'TakeAway' UNION ALL SELECT 'YearsExperience'
INSERT INTO @template_attributes
SELECT 1, 1 UNION ALL SELECT 1, 2 UNION ALL SELECT 1, 3 UNION ALL
SELECT 2, 1 UNION ALL SELECT 2, 2 UNION ALL SELECT 2, 4
INSERT INTO @values
SELECT 1, 1, 'Lumbagos TexMex' UNION ALL SELECT 1, 2, 'Mainstreet Oslo' UNION ALL
SELECT 1, 3, 'Yes' UNION ALL SELECT 2, 1, 'Peso' UNION ALL
SELECT 2, 2, 'Somewhere IN Sweden' UNION ALL SELECT 2, 4, '10'
SELECT TemplateName, AttributeName, Value
FROM @templates a
INNER JOIN @template_attributes b
ON a.TemplateID = b.TemplateID
INNER JOIN @attributes c
ON b.AttributeID = c.AttributeID
INNER JOIN @values d
ON b.TemplateID = d.TemplateID AND c.AttributeID = d.AttributeIDThe problem I need help with is that with the current design all "Values" are defined as varchar(200)...is it possible to change the design so that it's equally flexible but also fasilitates different datatypes? In some cases I would like to have a description column with way more than 200 characters, and I'd also like to save numbers as actual numbers...not like my example above with "YearsExperience". Is it at all possible?? I would appreciate your insight on this...

Hello,
I'd like to use OLE DB consumer templates, but I have troubles with changing values in my test DB. I've created a simple MS access DB 'ZK2Test.mdb' with one table 'pokus'. This table consist of one column with number (short integer).
I can read values, thats works fine. But when I try to write something, it is not propagated into DB.
I call SetValue and Update on cTable object and every call returns S_OK. When I try to read value of first row after my write, I get my new value of first column. But after moving cursor somewhere else and back to first row, reading first column of first row returns again the previous value.
In code example is my attempt to change value 1 from first row to 421
Sequence of commands is (C1 means Column 1):
MoveFirst
GetValue(C1) = 1
SetValue(421 to C1)
Update()
GetValue(C1) = 421
MoveNext()
MoveFirst()
GetValue(C1) = 1
Could anybody please tell me, what is wrong?
Thanks for your answers

res = cTable.Open(DTSession, L"pokus", &propset);
CHECK_RES(res);
// Move to first row
res = cTable.MoveFirst();
CHECK_RES(res);
dataPtr = cTable.GetValue(1);
x = *((SHORT*)dataPtr);
// Now the value of x is 1
x = 421;
if (!cTable.SetValue(1, x)) {
return FALSE;
}
res = cTable.Update();
CHECK_RES(res);
dataPtr = cTable.GetValue(1);
x = *((SHORT*)dataPtr);
// Now the value of x is 421
// Move cursor to the second row and back
res = cTable.MoveNext();
res = cTable.MoveFirst();

// Now the value of x is 1 (the original value, WHY!?)
I have a limited selection of projects.
I want to be able to create business intelligence project for reporting but the business intelligence project option is not there when I go to file/new/project.
When I first installed visual studio I chose visual basic/web development as the preference would this prevent other project types from being displayed?
