Finding Hidden Chars In Sql Query

Jul 5, 2007

I am working on a login system in flex and asp. I am encrypting the password before it is inserted it into the SQL database. But then when i do SELECT statement with username and encrypted password it returns 0 users found.
I outputted the sql statement and they passwords look excatly the same. But the SQL Select count(*) returns a 0.

link to the encrypting is used:
http://www.4guysfromrolla.com/webtech/110599-1.2.shtml

other information:
script language: asp + flex
database: sql server 2005

So i am thinking that their are hidden chars in the password. Is their a way to check this or even convert/exclude them ?
Any links or tips would be very helpfull

Analysis :: Hidden Power Pivot KPIs - Not Hidden In SSAS

Aug 20, 2015

Given a model in Power Pivot with a number of KPIs that are hidden with the 'hide from client tools' option. After restoring the model in SSAS and connecting to the model from Excel, the KPIs are visible under a separate category/table "KPIs".

Other hidden items in the model like columns and measures remain invisible.

Is this normal behavior and what can I do about this?

Truncation Error: 255 Chars To 2 Chars.

Aug 27, 2007

Hi,

I am very new to using SSIS.

Trying to import data from MS Access 2000.

I receive the error "
[OLE DB Destination [1907]] Warning: Truncation may occur due to inserting data from data flow column "GENDER" with a length of 255 to database column "GENDER" with a length of 2. " on the source flow.

I have done some googling and came up with this post: http://torontosql.dotnetnuke-portal.com/Default.aspx?tabid=32233 which I thought may help, but it does not.

The query against the access datasource features the column: iif([sex]=1, 'm', 'f'). I tried using left(..., 2) as well, but SSIS is determind to treat the field as 255 characters for some reason.

I don't even particualrly care that the field is 255 chars and the sources is only two, I just want the data in! I have other fields coming up with similar error.

Can someone please advise?

PS, what is th significance of the "External Columns" Vs "Output Columns" on the Input and Output Properties tab in Advanced Editor?

I am really struggling with SSIS, it is not as intuitive as DTS.

Transact SQL :: How To Query A Table With Hidden Values

Aug 31, 2015

I have a table called USERS, some of its records are marked as  hiddenRcord, I want to load those records in a custom page in my asp.net webpage with paging enabled, each page contains 10 records.

I use the statement "SELECT Top 10 tableID,userName FROM USERS WHERE (hiddenRecord=0 AND tableID>@tableID)"

The pagination has 5 links (First,2,3,4,Last), I can of course put the last tableID in link number 2, but I don't know how to do it for the links (3,4,Last).

Referencing One Item's Hidden Property In Order To Set Another's Hidden Property

Feb 15, 2007

Hello,

I have a group I'll call G4.

The header table row for G4 contains 3 textboxes containing the sums of the contents within G4. The header table row for G4 is visible while it's contents, including the G4 footer table row, is kept invisible until the report user drills down into the group.

When the report user drills down into G4 the footer table row becomes visible and the sums of the contents of the group are displayed for a second time.

At this point I want the sums in the header to be set to invisible when the sums in the footer are made visible by the drilldown.

When I try to reference the hidden property of textbox66 in the G4 footer in order to set the hidden property of header textbox57 in the G4 header I get to this point...

=IIF(reportitems!textbox66.

When it fails to give me an option of choosing the .Hidden property and instead only gives me a .Value.

If I complete the IIF statement manually so that it spells out .....

=IIF(ReportItems!Textbox66.Hidden = False, True, False)

...the report chokes on it.

So my question is, how do I reference the hidden property of one or more textboxes in a group to use as condition checks to set the hidden property of another textbox in that same group?

Thank you for any help you can provide. We are only now beginning to implement reporting services and I have not yet had the chance to research this in greater detail for lack of time.

Reporting Services :: Query To Pull SSRS Parameter Properties (Hidden / Visible / Internal)

May 19, 2015

We have 1000s of SSRS reports hosted on the SQL 2008 R2. All reports are supposed to have all parameters "hidden". Random reports have been reported to expose the parameter when developers accidently deploy to test servers. Is there a way to identify the reports and the parameter property (Hidden, Visible, Internal) from the Report server Database?

I checked executionlog2 but can not find the parameter property.

The duplicates that this thread relates to are the kind with duplicate "keyword" entries AND dissimilar field entries; i.e. :

Code:

keyword negative exact broad Phrase
Polo 0 122 4
Polo 0 122 5

I've come up with an SQL query that seems to return all of these duplicates (save one of each type- the 'real', unique entry). However I think I made the query very inefficient. My SQL is very bad; this query will be running over tens of thousands of rows, so if it can be at all optimized I would greatly appreciate your help!

What I have so far is:

Code:

string query1 = "SELECT * FROM TableName" +
" WHERE EXISTS (SELECT NULL FROM TableName" + " b" +
" WHERE b.[keyword]= " + "TableName"+ ".[keyword]" +
" AND b.[negative]<> " + "TableName"+ ".[negative]" +
" ORb.[keyword]= " + "TableName"+ ".[keyword]" +
" ANDb.[exact]<> " + "TableName"+ ".[exact]" +
" ORb.[keyword] = " + "TableName"+ ".[keyword]" +
" ANDb.[broad]<> " + "TableName"+ ".[broad]" +
" ORb.[keyword]= " +"TableName"+ ".[keyword]" +
" ANDb.[phrase]<> "+"TableName"+ ".[phrase]" +
" GROUP BY b.[keyword], b.[broad], b.[exact]" +
" HAVING Count(b.[keyword]) BETWEEN 2 AND 50000)" ;

the algoritm seems to check every column of every row in order to determine a duplicate. Seems straightforward to me, but alas slow...

Is there a better/faster way I can do this? Thanks for you help!

Complex SQL Query - Finding A Unique Row By Lastdatemodified

Apr 14, 2008

HI all,

I am having a bit of difficulty trying to work how to write a query. I am normally only used to doing SELECT, UPDATE and DELETE queries ... the simple ones.

However I have come across a query whereby things get a lot more complex.

My company has an employee table with a way to store data that I have not been used to.

EMPLID, NAME, DATELASTMODIFIED, EmployeeStatus. (There are lots more but N/A)

The problem that I have is that there can be more than one row for an employee id. Therefore I cannot uniquely identify an employee id. Instead what I have discovered I have to use is to find an employee with the last modified date higher than the other rows with the same employee id.

The query I am trying to achieve is:

Code:

Count all employees that have an employee status of 'Employed'.

(Therefore counting only one employee per id rather than counting the same employee more than once)

The trouble is, translating this into a SQL query. I have tried to have a go but don't know how to query:

Code:

SELECT COUNT (DISTINCT EmplId)[
FROM Employeetable AS e
WHERE e.LASTDATEMODIFIED <And Stuck>
AND EmployeeStatus = 'Employed'

So I thought hmm lets pseudo code this, but then I get stuck into compelixty:

Code:

SELECT * FROM EmployeeTable WHERE EmployeeStatus = 'Employed'

int counter = 0;
ForLoop (EmplId)
{
LastDate Date
if(LASTMODIFIEDDATE > LastDate)
{
LastDate = LASTMODIFIEDDATE
}
//How do I return the value? Do I count the value?
}

Has anyone come across this issue before? Can anyone help it quite fundemental to what I have to query so help on this is highly appreciative.

SqlDbType Chars's And VarChar's

Jun 19, 2006

I have an overloaded method in my data access layer that I use to load the parameters into a command object.  One of these overloaded methods is as follows:
public void LoadSqlParameter(string name, string value, ParameterDirection direction){            param                           = new SqlParameter();            param.ParameterName = name;            param.Value                 = value;            param.Direction            = direction;
            param.SqlDbType        = SqlDbType.VarChar;
            cmd.Parameters.Add(param);}
Will using a SqlDbType of VarChar cause me any problems if the actual parameter in the stored procedure is a Char?
Am I better off leaving out the line that specifies the type?
Thanks

Help - Still Trying To Insert 255+ Chars Into Text

Jun 7, 1999

How do you insert more than 255 characters into a text field? or am I using READTEXT and DATALENGTH incorrectly?

I am trying to concatenate two 255 varchar strings. Both do have 255 characters of data.
I want to insert the concatenated strings into a field define as a text data type.
if I try to ' insert into tempTbl(textFieldDataType) values (@text1+@text2) it appears only the @text1 is inserted.
I have been told the data is really there, but I can only read the 256 position + with READTEXT.

DECLARE @textptr varbinary(16)
select @textptr = (select TEXTPTR(textFieldDataType) from tempTbl where pktempTbl = 33)
READTEXT tempTbl.textFieldDataType @textPtr 255 10

This should have read 10 text positions after the 255th position. However, I get msg
Msg 7124, Level 16, State 1
The offset and length specified in the READTEXT command is greater than the actual data length of 255.

If I use the datalength function, it appears to confirm that @text2 was never inserted

declare @length int
select @length = (select datalength(textFieldDataTypet) from tempTbl where pktempTbl = 33)
select @length

@length is returned as 255

Odd Chars In Result From Xp_loginconfig

Sep 13, 2006

Hi

I am trying to get the domain name of the server running this instance of SQL server 2000 using xp_loginconfig but have been getting some very strange results. The code example below shows the problem quite nicely. Basically the output shows white space of some sort before the "/HelloWorld" in the second select.

Any ideas why? and how to get rid of it. I've tried using RTRIM() but that made no difference.

On some server instances I dont even see the "/HelloWorld" perhaps it's put in a new line char or something like that.

Thanks
Christian

create table #tmp (ConfigName varchar(100) null, ConfigValue varchar(100) null)
insert into #tmp exec master..xp_loginconfig

select ConfigName+'/HelloWorld' from #tmp where ConfigName = 'default domain'
select ConfigValue+'/HelloWorld' from #tmp where ConfigName = 'default domain'

drop table #tmp

Why are they not documented in the first place? Is it because they might change and they don't want us to use them?

Null Hidden Parameter

Aug 1, 2007

In my report I have a dataset that is returning an ID field among other things. I am setting a hidden parameter = to that ID field. That parameter is then used to return another dataset.

My problem is that the original dataset with the ID field does not always bring back data (this is expected). If data is not brought back, I get an error when I try to execute the report ("The 'X' parameter is missing a value").

I have the parameter set to "Allow Null Values".

This value is not required in the SQL Server stored procedure that returns values for the new dataset.
The parameter is of type Integer. (So I am not able to set the "Allow Blank Value" property)
This is NOT a multi-value parameter.

Does anyone have any suggestions/ideas/workarounds to solve my problem?
