Finding Number Of Hours Between Two Times?

Apr 24, 2014

I need to write a SQL to find number of hours between a begin time and end time. The fields are varchar. There are several date functions in sql, but I am not able to figure out how to get the hours between two times that is not in date format.

BEGIN_TIME END_TIME
0900----- 1500
1000----- 1700
1000----- 1230
0930----- 1030

Calculating Hours With Overlapping Times

Jul 20, 2005

All,I have a table with start and end dates/times in it, and would like tobe able to calculate the number of hours represented, accounting foroverlapping records.Note that I am looking for an answer on HOW to do this--I don'tnecessarily need it to be written for me (although it would not gounappreciated!).CREATE TABLE [dbo].[session_temp] ([session_pk] [int] IDENTITY (1, 1) NOT NULL ,[date_start] [smalldatetime] NULL ,[date_end] [smalldatetime] NULL) ON [PRIMARY]GO--These values make a very simplistic example,--as they only represent one--session,so using min and max would work in this case,--but would not work if there--were multiple sessions involved.--hopefully you get the idea of what I am going for:INSERT INTO session_tempVALUES('4/4/04 9 pm','4/4/04 10pm')INSERT INTO session_tempVALUES('4/4/04 9 pm','4/4/04 10:30pm')INSERT INTO session_tempVALUES('4/4/04 9 pm','4/4/04 10:45pm')INSERT INTO session_tempVALUES('4/4/04 9 pm','4/4/04 11pm')INSERT INTO session_tempVALUES('4/4/04 9 pm','4/5/04 2am')--the query I am looking to write would return "5"--the one below obviously does not do what I am looking forSELECTSUM(CAST(DATEDIFF(ss,date_start,date_end) AS NUMERIC(8,2))/3600)FROMsession_tempThanks very much for any insight.Phil---Check out my poker-only weblog at:http://www.livejournal.com/users/chicago_phil/Download my session-tracking spreadsheet at:http://www.geocities.com/fibby70/

I'd like a function that returns the number of hours in a specific month (or the number of days which I could then multiply by 24). The function would have to consider leap years for February.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Finding A Duplicate Transaction Number

Jan 16, 1999

I have a problem with a 3rd party piece of software. Doesn't matter which, really. The problem lies
in a table called payments, with a column called txnumber...the newest version of this software fails
a check during installation with the message "duplicate txnumber in payment table." Not sure how
this could have happened, since there is no way to manually assign the txnumber, but the point is
not important. What I'd like to do is figure out a sql script that will return only the duplicate number(s)
so that I can either remove or change them manually. Unfortunately, I'm not terribly familiar with sql.

Any suggestions?

T-SQL (SS2K8) :: Write Into A Table User-entered Value And Increment That Number N Times As Existing Rows

Jun 25, 2014

I need to have a script where it ask the user for a value, the script will search for all records that match the value. Then it will display the numbers of records found and ask the user to enter a different value. The rest of the script will use this new value and increment by 1 n times as the number of records found. I started the script where it will ask for "HANDLE" and display the number of records found with that "HANDLE"

declare @HANDLE as varchar(30)
declare @COUNT as varchar(10)
declare @STARTINV as varchar(20)

set @HANDLE = ?C --This is the parameter to search for records with this value
set @STARTINV = ?C --User will input the starting invoice number
SELECT COUNT as OrderCount FROM SHIPHIST
where HANDLE = @HANDLE

I just can't figure out how to proceed to use the entered invoice # and increment by 1 until it reach the number of records found.

This will be the end results:

Count=5 --results from query
STARTINV=00010 --Value entered by user

Help With Dates-finding Number Of Days Per Month

Mar 28, 2000

I am trying to determine the amount of days in a month to prorate a month end estimate.
We measure service calls and need to approximate how many we will have at month end.
I would like to automate a query to post on our web and need to know how many days are in the current month.

A possible solution would be to piece together a datetime variable using getdate and dateadd then use a datepart.
However , I don't know how to create a datetime variable this way.

Thanks in advance

Breaking Down Total Hours Worked Into Day And Evening Hours

Sep 21, 2006

I have data coming from a telephony system that keeps track of when anemployee makes a phone call to conduct a survey and which project numberis being billed for the time the employee spends on that phone call in aMS SQL Server 2000 database (which I don't own). The data is being returned to me in a view (see DDL for w_HR_Call_Logbelow). I link to this view in MS access through ODBC to create alinked table. I have my own view in Access that converts the integernumbers for start and end date to Date/Time and inserts some otherinformation i need. This data is eventually going to be compared with data from someelectronic timesheets for purposes of comparing entered hours vs hoursactually spent on the telephone, and the people that will be viewing thedata need the total time on the telephone as wall as that total brokendown by day/evening and weekend. Getting weekend durations is easyenough (see SQL for qryTelephonyData below), but I was wondering ifanyone knew of efficient set-based methods for doing a day/eveningbreakdown of some duration given a start date and end date (with theday/evening boundary being 17:59:59)? My impression is that to do thiscorrectly (i.e., handle employees working in different time zones, adjusting for DST, and figuring out what the boundary is for switchingfrom evening back to day) will require procedural code (probably inVisual Basic or VBA).However, if there are set-based algorithms that can accomplish it inSQL, I'd like to explore those, as well. SQL M.P.s - 1 Day = 24 Hours??? Or 24 - 48 Hours???

Jun 28, 2001

We have a few Servers that have space issues that need full DB Backups every day. As a result, we have to carefully watch how many DB Backup files we keep on the Server. On the Maintenance Plan, if I set the 'Delete files older than:' to '1' 'Day', will this delete anything over 24 hours old? What I have noticed, is that it tends to delete on Tuesday anything that was created on Sunday, but not Monday. Therefore, I am assuming that instead of '1 Day' being 24 hours, it is anything less than 47 hours and 59 minutes...

Is my assumption correct or do I need to look at something else. Thanks!

Billy
