Generate Fixed Output

Mar 21, 2008

I have table like below

ID AMT
1001 1234.560
1001 34.560
1001 134.000
1002 45.000
1002 3456.000
1003 5678.999

I need to create a fixed length data file..For example, ID char(6) and amt num(10.3) and sum(23.3)

It should be group and order by ID : 01 Represent ID line and 02 represent amt ( there can be multiple amt records) and 03 represent sum of amt.
01 + ID
02 + AMT
03 + Sum(AMT)

The output should look like this.. How do this either using a sql or cursor?

011001
021234.560
0234.560
02134.00
031403.12
011002
0245.000
023456.000
033501.000

Integration Services :: Generate CSV File Dynamically With A Fixed Amount Of Rows

Jun 5, 2015

I need to generate a csv file from another csv file, seems to be simple but let's go the trick thing:

Needs to have maximum 1000 lines, if I reach to this, I need to create another csv and fill that new one.

Exemplifying:

I have a csv file called fileA and this has 2000 lines and another csv called fileB with 1500 lines.

I need to loop a folder and get the fileA, create an output called FileAOutput and start to fill that, if I reach to 1000 lines, I need to create a FileAOutput_2 and fill the other 1000 lines...so I'll go to fileB and do the same thing, but in the second case, I'll have 500 lines in the second output.

Fixed Length File Output

Feb 5, 2008

I need to write data into a fixed column length file and was wondering the best (most efficient) way to tackle this. For example, the first few pieces of the report I'm working on now would be:

PacketID - Starting position 1, Field length 9
TransactionID - Starting position 10, Field length 9
Group number - Starting position 19, field length 10
PID/SSN - Starting position 29, field length 10

For the PID/SSN, if I have a PID it'll be 10 digits and fill the field length, if I don't I use SSN which is only 9 digits and enter a space as the 10th digit. Obviously if I don't have certain pieces of information I'll just need spaces of the specified length to satisfy the file format. I'm using SQL 2005. Thanks in advance for any help provided.

Fixed Width Output Problem

Jun 6, 2006

I'm sending the results of an SSIS data flow to an fixed-width flat file output, but instead of getting separate rows of data, like so:

row1data...
row2data...
row3data...
etc...

I get:

row1data...row2data...row3data...etc...

Is there some setting I'm missing in either the flat file output or the file connection to turn this on?

SSIS - Output Table To Flat Fixed-width File

Oct 19, 2007

I am new to SSIS and am having trouble with automatically setting up the destination output columns.

I am sure there must be an easy way to do this.

My table (source) has 86 columns in it of varying lenghts.

In my connection magagers, I have created one for the SQL Server (source data) and one for the flat file (destination output).

I have also created an OLE DB source data object and a destination Flat File object and set them up to the respective connection managers.

Finally I have linked the source to the destination.

Now when I look at the source, it shows me all 86 columns.

When I open up destination, there are no columns set up.

Problem: do I have to type in all the columns manually in the connection manager for the Flat File?

I would think there would be some automatic way that it would self-populate the columns over to the flat file destination.

Output To Fixed Width Flat File Not Adding Line Breaks

May 19, 2008

Hi All,

I have a simple SSIS package that runs a query on the db and outputs a fixed width flat file. I have all my column widths defined and in the connection manager i can preview the output. Everything looks great. All the fields fall where they should and each record is on it's own line.

When i run the SSIS program and then go open my text file with a text editor the ouput is all on the same line. I have tried changing my file format from fixed width to ragging right and adding a row delimiter but that doesn't work either. I feel like i'm missing something small here. It could even be an issue w/ my text editor (although i've tried to open the text file in multiple editors). In the flat file connection manager I have my file defined to be 187 characters long, So figure every 187 characters it should output a new line (it should add the carraige return right?).

Has anyone encountered an issue like this?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Transact SQL :: Use Print Function To Output Numeric Variable With Fixed Amount Of Leading Zeroes

Apr 23, 2015

I need to create an output from a T-SQL query that picks a numeric variable and uses the print function to output with leading zeroes if it is less than three characters long when converted to string.  For example if the variable is 12 the output should be 012 and if the variable is 3 the output should be 003.

Presently the syntax I am using is PRINT STR(@CLUSTER,3) .  But if @CLUSTER which is numeric is less than three characters I get spaces in front.

SP To Compare Records - Generate Output In Attachment

Jul 8, 2014

I have a table that have different groups in it, All the records that belong to one Group have the same GroupID and each GroupID has same columns. I need a query to generate the output in the attachment.

When the user input one GroupID then all the records belong to that group will pull out,

When the user input two GroupIDs then the user need to select another set of parameter (duplicate records or different records or nonoverlap records) to display

Intersect of the two group or different records or except records

when user input three GroupIDs then the user need to display the overlaps among all three groups or different among three groups or dinstinct records among the three groups

Of course user can input other filters.

Hey,

I'm looking for a good way to rewrite my T-SQL code with 'bcp' to SSIS package, any help would be greatly appreciated?

I have table1 contain account numbers and output-filename for each account,

I need to join table2 and table3 to get data for each account in table1, and then export as a txt file.

Here is my code using bcp (bulk copy)

@TotalRows int,
@AccountNumber char(11),
@sql varchar(8000),
@date char(10),
@ArchPath varchar(500)

SET @date = CONVERT(CHAR(10),GETDATE(),110)
SET @ArchPath = '\D$EDATAWorkFoldersSendSendData'
SELECT @TotalRows = count(*) FROM table1
--select @ArchPath

WHILE (@RowCnt <= @TotalRows)

SELECT @AccountNumber = AccountNumber, @output_filename FROM table1 WHERE Identity_Number = @RowCnt
--PRINT @AccountNumber --test
SELECT @sql = N'bcp "SELECT h.HeaderText, d.RECORD FROM table2 d INNER JOIN table3 h ON d.HeaderID = h.HeaderID WHERE d.ccountNumber = '''

EXEC master..xp_cmdshell @sql
SELECT @RowCnt = @RowCnt + 1

Error Message: Failed To Generate A User Instance Of SQL Server. Only An Integrated Connection Can Generate A User Instance

Mar 3, 2008

Hello everybody,I was configuring a SqlDataSource control using SQL Authentication mode.I first added a database file (testdb.mdf) through Solution Explorer-Add New Items. Then through Database Explorer I created a table named "info"Then while configuring  the SqlDataSource control I used the SQL Authentication mode and attached the "testdb.mdf" database file.Test Connection showed success. But when I hit the Ok button of the wizard it displayed the following error message:Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server. Only an integrated connection can generate a user instance. While configuring the  SqlDataSource control I clicked "New Connection". Under Data Source section I tried both Microsoft SQL Server and Microsoft SQL Server Database File. And in both the cases I attached a databese file(testdb.mdf).          Plz enlighten me on this. Thanks and Regards,Sankar.

Number Of ROWS Of Output Of Aggregate Transformation Sometimes Doesn't Match The Output From T-SQL Query

Dec 25, 2006

While using Aggregate Transformation to group one column, the rows of output sometimes larger than the rows returned by a T-SQL statement via SSMS.

For example, the output of the Aggregate Transformation may be 960216 ,but the

'Select Count(Orderid) From ... Group By ***' T-SQL Statement returns 96018*.

I'm sure the Group By of the Aggregate Transformation is right!

But ,when I set the "keyscale" property of the transformation, the results match!

In my opinion, the "keyscale" property will jsut affects the performance of the transformaiton, but not the result of the transformation.

Thanks for your advice.

Transact SQL :: Generic Store Procedure Call Without Output Parameters But Catching Output

Inside some TSQL programmable object (a SP/or a query in Management Studio)I have a parameter containing the name of a StoreProcedure+The required Argument for these SP. (for example it's between the brackets [])

DECLARE @SPToCall NVARCHAR(MAX) = N'sp_ChooseTypeOfXMLResult
''TABLE type'', ''NODE XML'';'
DECLARE @paramsDefintion = N'@CatchedOutput NVARCHAR(MAX) OUTPUT'

Output And Error Output Write The Same Table At The Same Time, Stall The Process.

Aug 30, 2006

Hi

I have Lookup task to determine if source data should be updated to or insert to the customer table. After Lookup task, the Error Output pipeline will redirect to insert new data to the table and the Output pipeline will update customer table. But these two tasks will be processing at the same time which causes stall on the process. Never end.....

The job is similiart to what Slow Changing Dimention does but it won't update the table at the same time.

What can I do to avoid such situation?

Thanks in advance,

JD

Using Output From A Stored Procedure As An Output Column In The OLE DB Command Transformation

Dec 8, 2006

I am working on an OLAP modeled database.

I have a Lookup Transformation that matches the natural key of a dimension member and returns the dimension key for that member (surrogate key pipeline stuff).

I am using an OLE DB Command as the Error flow of the Lookup Transformation to insert an "Inferred Member" (new row) into a dimension table if the Lookup fails.

The OLE DB Command calls a stored procedure (dbo.InsertNewDimensionMember) that inserts the new member and returns the key of the new member (using scope_identity) as an output.

What is the syntax in the SQL Command line of the OLE DB Command Transformation to set the output of the stored procedure as an Output Column?

I know that I can 1) add a second Lookup with "Enable memory restriction" on (no caching) in the Success data flow after the OLE DB Command, 2) find the newly inserted member, and 3) Union both Lookup results together, but this is a large dimension table (several million rows) and searching for the newly inserted dimension member seems excessive, especially since I have the ID I want returned as output from the stored procedure that inserted it.

Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide.

PrimeOutput : Difference Between 'Output' And 'output Buffer'

Aug 12, 2005

When overriding the PrimeOutput method in a custom component, you get as parameters the outputIDs and the output buffers (of type PipelineBuffer). using the outputIDs you can get IDTSOutput90 outputs.

DTS And Fixed Widths

Dec 2, 2003

Hi all.

I'm trying to export some tables in fixed width format for a client that needs it this way. The first time I did this, using Import/Export in Enterprise Manager, integer fields were 12 chars long. However, when I saved this as a DTS and ran it again later, it made integers 4 chars in the text file (which matches the lengths of the datatypes you see in enterprise manager.)

Why is this difference there? What do I need to do differently? Also, is there a list of how wide each data type is when exported as fixed delimited text?

thanks,
Craig

Possible To Have A Fixed Value As Foreign Key?

Aug 15, 2007

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to make a hierarchy in which some nodes are locked, preventing children nodes from being added.

The hierarchy table points to itself (the parent entry). I want to secure this from the DB side. Initially, no nodes have parents but can attach themselves to one.

I'd like my FK contraint to be like:
CONSTRAINT FK_hierarchy FOREIGN KEY (parent_id, 1) REFERENCES nde_recursion(hierarchy_id, allow_children)

This is so the parent_id can only be set if that entry allows children.

Here's my approach. Any better ideas? I feel like I'm adding an extra field (parent_allow) when I shouldn't.

CREATE TABLE hierarchy(
hierarchy_idINTIDENTITY(1,1) UNIQUE NOT NULL,
allow_childrenBITDEFAULT 1 NOT NULL,

parent_idINT,-- NULL is for root nodes
parent_allowBITDEFAULT 1 NOT NULL,

CONSTRAINT PK_hierarchy PRIMARY KEY (hierarchy_id, allow_children),
CONSTRAINT FK_hierarchy FOREIGN KEY (parent_id, parent_allow) REFERENCES nde_recursion(hierarchy_id, allow_children),
CONSTRAINT CK_hierarchy CHECK ((nde_status = 'Normal' AND parent_id IS NULL) OR (nde_status != 'Normal' AND parent_id IS NOT NULL)),
CONSTRAINT CK_hierarchy2 CHECK (parent_allow = 1)
)

Fixed Header

Mar 1, 2007

Hello!

I have a report that the users reach from an url. In the url I have rc:parameters = false. That part works fine. But when I use rc:parameters = false, the property fixed header doesn't seem to work. If I run the report from the report server it works fine, but not from the url.

Any ideas?

/C

Fixed Header

Feb 15, 2008

Hi

I have a table in a report which has the FixedHeader property set to true. What happens is that when I try to look for a text using the find option, the found text gets hidden under the header row, which then I have scroll back to see that. The user may think that the text was not found. Any solution to be able to bring the found item to somewhere the user can see?

Thank you

Bigint And Int64 - When Fixed?

Nov 22, 2006

I am attempting to build our first set of packages populating or DW. All of our source system primary keys are bigints (on the main tables at least). SSIS seems to have a problem dealing with bigint values, i.e. having to assign variables as doubles rather than int64, having to cast returning bigint values as float, or bigint sproc output parameters as double. It is all a bit messy (and possibly the most frustrating part of SSIS for me) - does anyone know if this problem is due to be fixed in any forthcoming release?

Select Fixed Number Of Rows

Jun 14, 2004

A table has a column of int type. I need to select a fixed number of rows for each value. For example, if data in that column (c) are 5, 6, 7, and the number I want to select is 2, then I need 2 rows from c=5, 2 from c=6, and 2 from c=7. How to write that query? Any idea?

Thanks.
