Getting English Column Names Into A German Database
Jul 23, 2005I'm currently implementing a German ERP system and I'm having aterrible time writing reports/SQL statements. The database is MS SQLServer 2000. I want to set permanant aliases for the columns that Ican use in SQL statements. Is this even possible? All of the researchI've done implies that you can only alias column names in the output ofa SQL statement.

i need to know how to enable my database that is stored on SQLServer 2005 to be able to store German characters, because as you know that when it finds a unique character that is not supported by the Collation language it puts instead a "?" character.
so i need to know the correct Collation item that is equivelant to the German language or if there is any extra download or package i should get to make it work.

I've a VB6 application that writes data to a SQL Server database using ADODB in the VB6 code. My market has been the United States. My application is written for the English language.
I've a new user in Germany. Unfortunately, every number that contains a decimal is now stored in the SQL Server database with the decimal dropped. For example, 29.15 gets stored as 2915. I've done some searching and found the culprit is probably the OS Regional Language setting. The Germany user is using German. So it seems ADODB is expressing "29.15" as "29,15", and SQL Server is having a fit when ADODB is trying to write to the database.
My client is reluctant to changing all their user profile language settings to German (or the other option, changing their German language setting decimal symbol option to "."). They fear other applications may be affected.
Can anyone suggest a solution on my software end? Does ADODB have some options of which I'm unaware that will ignore the regional language setting and express decimal-containing numbers simply as "."? Or is there a setting in SQL Server to compensate?

German Special Characters
Apr 13, 2003I have a problem inserting German special chracters into a MSSql table.
üöäÖ works fine, but ßÜÄ are reduced to "_". I'm using a html form and a php script to enter the data into the database. Any idea why this isn't working? Funny thing is, when I use a german version of the SQL Server it also works without a problem... but I need this to work on ANY mssql server. Any help would be very much appreciated.

ü will result in |

and so on.

Apr 10, 2007I have developed a tool to allow project developers to easily re-create the entire schema for our base product. The current issue involves setting the correct collation for the customers' region. Our brother company in Germany uses the same db creation tool and scripts, and we here in the US also have customers in South America. My ultimate question is "what subset of collation names would be necessary to provide the project developer?" I could query the database to get all the collation names, but I think it was around 1000 names. Can I query to get a smaller subset of the most relevant collation names?

im using a rss script and the rs.exe tool to deploy about 100 reports to several reporting server. The problem now is, that a lot of the reports a named with special german chars like Ö Ä Ü.
I am using the folowing function:

If I deploy a report name "Verträge" (=contracts), i will get an error that the report definition could not be found. But after that the report i viewable in the report server but could not be rendered.

Is there any tool available to migrate the data from the SQL Server test database to SQL Server production database. Data Migration should be based on a condition which can be given as an input for a table by the user. The dependant tables also should be migrated based on the given condition. i.e data subsetting based on the matching conditions.
Ex : Salary > 2000
The rows of the table which matches the condition alone need to be migrated for the corresponding table. Also its dependant table's rows should be migrated based on the given condition. Please help me with a tool which can automate this.

Now I am unable get the database loaded to SQL Server. The database has 2 replications configured, so deleting and re-attaching the database means the replication needs to be re-configured. Is there an alternative way to issue a command to update the database FILENAME ? Not sure if this can be edited in master database (sys files).

I've tried enabling flag 1807 via the SQLserver service and the startup parameters of the instance. In allcases the database always come up suspect after a reboot. Sep 3, 2014I did tried the encryption on server "A" for database "AdventureWorks2012". Then I tried to restore to server "B". There was the certificate issue, and I thought "of course : it's encrypted ! Let's deactivate it". So here I go "ALTER DATABASE AdventureWorks2012 SET ENCYRPTION OFF".I look at sys.databases : not encrypted.I backup using no encryption, I verify using msdb.dbo.backupset : not encrypted.
I move my backup to my other server where encryption was never configured (so no certificate, nothing...), and I have the error :
Msg 33111, Level 16, State 3, Line 1
Cannot find server certificate with thumbprint '0xFA130E58C999C4919B8975999C83A75A403B11D8'.

Encryption is the standard AES-256 that comes with Sql Server 2014 btw. I don't want the original touched/altered in any way. I would like to capture a success message if possible.I can extract the physical device name of the database in question using the following code:

Not All Database Failover To Mirrored Database Server When MSSQL Service Stopped
Sep 4, 2007We have a Prinicipal, a Mirror and a Witness server. We have automatic failover configured between the Prinicipal and Mirrored server. When we stop MMSQL service on Prinicipal, not all the databases failover to the Mirrored instance.
Any suggestions would be welcomed as we have a tight deadline to get this in Production.

Both the servers were in the same domain whose active directory was also in another server in the same virtual lab environment. My question can we have the primary sql server in one domain and the secondary sql server to which the logs are shipped in another domain by including a router also between the 2 networks for connectivity?
