how to copy a content of a table from one remote server to another,. server A does not see server B (B doesn't see A) - I cannot even ping to one from another.I do have SQL Studio installed on server C, which IT team configured to allow access to both A and B.So what I did so far is to periodically:
1. connect from the studio on server C to server A 2. run the following script on server A: SELECT * FROM A.myTable FOR XML PATH('ROOT') 3. copy the result 4. connect from the studio on server C to server B 5. to write something like
DECLARE @xmlData XML; SET @xmlData = pasting here my result from item 3 above
6. INSERT INTO SELECT
ref.value ..... FROM @xmlData.nodes('/myElemnet/ROOT') xmlData( ref );
so it works. now there is a requirement to schedule this update to run periodically and I need to implement it..
Here is my problem: I'm trying to copy a few tables from an ODBC database located on a PC on my LAN to a SQL Server on a remote server.
To do this I have created a DTS package on the SQL Server which runs smoothly, copying the data as it should, but only as long as it copies the data from the ODBC database on my own computer where I have Enterprise Manager installed. The moment I try to copy data from another PC in the network where Enterprise Manager is not used to execute the DTS package the task fails to run.
I'm quite at a loss here and would very much appreciate a notch in the right direction. Perhabs some source or book which I may read to solve the problem.
I set up DB mirror between a primary (SQL1) and a mirror (SQL2); no witness. I have a problem when I issue command:
alter database DBmirrorTest Set Partner = N'TCP://SQL2.mycom.com:5022'; go
The error message is:
The remote copy of database "DBmirrorTest" has not been rolled forward to a point in time that is encompassed in the local copy of the database log.
I have the steps below prior to the command. (Note that both servers' service accounts use the same domain account. The domain account I login to do db mirror setup is a member of the local admin group.)
1. backup database DBmirrorTest on SQL1
2. backup database log
3. copy db and log backup files to SQL2
4. restore db with norecovery
5. restore log with norecovery
6. create endpoints on both SQL1 and SQL2
CREATE ENDPOINT [Mirroring]
STATE=STARTED
AS TCP (LISTENER_PORT = 5022, LISTENER_IP = ALL)
FOR DATA_MIRRORING (ROLE = PARTNER)
7. enable mirror on mirror server SQL2
:connect SQL2
alter database DBmirrorTest
Set Partner = N'TCP://SQL1.mycom.com:5022';
go
8. Enable mirror on primary server SQL1
:connect SQL1
alter database DBmirrorTest
Set Partner = N'TCP://SQL2.mycom.com:5022';
go
This is where I got the error.
The remote copy of database "DBmirrorTest" has not been rolled forward to a point in time that is encompassed in the local copy
Hi and thanks in advance for your help. I have a dilemma and I need some expert help with this. I am trying to make a copy of a remote Database and then replicated the DB and it's contents on my local machine so I can build a test site to run data with. I tried to remot into the server machine but I guess that feature is not allowed by the honest of the remote machine. Since I build on my local machine and would like to be able to test data on my local machine.... I would like to copy the remote DB to my local computer and then I can run my test app on my local server. The version of SQL on the remote machine is SQL Express 2005 and I have SQL 2005 on my machine. Please give me how to accomplish this please.
We currently have a PPTP connection set up for our developers toaccess our development SQL server through a VPN tunnel. When theyneed to copy tables up to the dev SQL from their local machine theysimply do a DTS copy. However, we are now moving to a thin client solution where they willbe working on a terminal server. They will have access to thedevelopment SQL servers and SQL tools such as EM and QA. However, they will not have access to their local SQL server and, therefore, will not be able to directly perform DTS copies. We have exploredseveral possibilities such as exporting tables to a .csv or .mdb fileand then importing them on the development SQL server but this is notideal because things are lost in that process (e.g. primary keys, field names, data types, etc.)My question is this: Is there a way to export and then import SQLtables without losing dependent objects such as primary keys and datatypes in the process? If any of you are working with a similarsituation I would really like to hear how your remote users copyobjects from their remote location to your SQL servers. I am using vb.net in windows form. I have made a module which is connected to sql server 2000.
Now, I want to have a fresh copy of the remote database of SQL Server at my local computer and whenever there is change in remote database(insertions, deletion or updation), my local database copy may gets synchronized(i.e changes get reflected in this local copy).
Can any one help me? If it is possibel by using Vb.net code, it is very well, and if there is some Sql Server wizard that can help me do that, please reply to me.
How to add a task to copy an OLAP database to a remote Sql server in control flow using SSIS 2005? This OLAP database is existed in the remote server and I just want to replace the existing one with the one just been updated in the SSIS package and the last task in the package is to copy the updated OLAP database and replace the one at the remote server. Hopfully during the copy and paste process it will not screw up the reports that are using the OLAP cubes at the remote server as the report data source. Thanks.
I try to copy database from remote SQL Server(6.5) to our local SQL Server(7.0). I try this way: First, in Enterprice Manager, I try "NEW SQL SERVER REGISTRATION" using "Register SQL Server wizard". The remote server give me the IP, login name and password. then, I try connect option by "login using SQL Server". But I got message say:"specialted server not found, Connection open, create file". some times say:"client server access denied..." some times say:"timeout". What's going on here? So, I can not get going on with "Import data wizard".
Does anyone know how to solve this problem? Any answer would be of great assistance!

I am developing an SQL Server application on my local SQL Server. When I want to put this on the remote SQL server I do a restore of the whole thing by copying the database files by myself.
I have the fallowing question:
I there a tool which i can use to create a script to create the whole db with tables and all the stuff an the SQL Server? Like phpmyadmin.
And is there a tool to create this script based on an existing db
I am having problems setting up database mirroring (SQL Server 2005). I made a backup of my database and transaction log, I restore this on my Mirror server with NoRecovery mode. I established the end points and I set the partner on my mirror server, I then received the error "The remote copy of database "DBNAME" is not recovered far enough to enable database mirroring". when attempting to set the partner on my primary server.
I have a SqlExpress DB on my server. I have a remote copy for security/backup reasons. Because the DB file(and .bak file) is about 2 Gb, it take a while to copy the whole thing to the remote machine. I believe there is a way to use the log file to simply update my remote copy ratherr than copying whole files, but I don't know what this process is called to research it. I have Brust's book on Sql Programming, but I have not found what I am looking for in there. Can anyone tell me where I should be looking and what this process is called?
One of the step in sql agent job is to execute the SSIS package to copy files from remote shared location to local server where sql server is installed. The account on which SQL agent runs as has access to remote shared location. However SSIS package always fails with following error:
An error occurred with the following error message: "Access to the path '\sharedlocationBCKTST105092008.csv' is denied.".
We have tried using proxies but same issue come with proxy also. When using proxy, we created a proxy for a user who has access on that shared folder on Windows server(from which files are to be copied). If we login to SSIS server with the above user and execute SSIS package manually it works fine. However if we login with different user and run the job via SQL agent using proxy of the above user, then job fails throwing same above mentioned error
I connect from SQL Server on Windows 2000 to Progress Database on UNIX. The database name of SQL Server is cstarsql and the name is cstarint on UNIX.
I would like to schedule to copy data from cstarint(Progress) to cstarsql(SQLServer). I did for one time, but I want to control if the data has already copied or not. If not, it will copy.
In DTS Query Builder to copy from Progress to SQL Server, SELECT * from calls WHERE call_date = TODAY The name of table of calls is the same for both database. The above calls is cstarint(Progress Database) This command is enough for one time. But I need to control if the record has already copied.
In SQL Server, I control if the record is available or not with @@FETCH_STATUS . Now I would like to mix two queries, but I couldn't. Can anybody do this?
DECLARE calls_cursor SCROLL CURSOR FOR SELECT * FROM calls WHERE call_date = TODAY
OPEN calls_cursor
-- Perform the first fetch. FETCH NEXT FROM calls_cursor
-- Check @@FETCH_STATUS to see if there are any more rows to fetch. WHILE @@FETCH_STATUS = 0 BEGIN -- This is executed as long as the previous fetch succeeds. FETCH NEXT FROM calls_cursor END
Hi, I am trying to copy the data and tables from My server(SqlServer2000) to another Server(MSDE2000A) using DTS, after some time i am getting an Error " the login PDD Doc handler doesnot exist" failed to copy the data. How to fix this, appreciate your help Thank You
Hello, I have a sql database server (let call it server A) which has SQL program files installed on C:, and SQL data structures MSSQL (include subdirectories BAckup, DATA, FTDAT, JOBS, LOG, REPLDATA) on F:. A new server (call it server B) was cloned of server A but only at the C: partition. I still need to manually copy the SQL data structure on F: drive from A to B. The purpose of setting up server B is to test the restore of backup of server A and eventually want it to serve as the standby server should server A crashes. My questions are 1. Can MSSQL directory be copied from A to B without stopping the SQL server service on A first? 2. I will use robocopy for copying data over, what switches should I use to retain all database file security, permission, etc.. 3. Currently I can not start the SQL service on server B because part of MSSQL directory is missing from the F: drive. so theorically, after I manually copy that folder over, I should be able to start the sql service. Am I right? Is there any steps that I might have overlook here. Any errors I might encounter doing it this way
Once I can get the sql started, I can take care of the restore part. Thanks for any insights or suggestions you can provide on this.
I'm developing an application that need to create everyday information to be stored in a SQL Mobile Database.
The SQL Mobile database will have:
Last schema from tables (in SQL Server database); Last information in the tables;
I don't want to copy all the tables from SQL Server database than this mecanism should give me the way to choose the tables.
I have been reading about the SqlCeReplication but I don't undestand what is InternetUrl property. The SQL Mobile database is created in the PC and after is copy to the the Mobile Device. How can I avoid the InternetURL property?

I am facing a great problem. I have a DB about 80GB. There are 217489811 number of records which include 2005, 2006 and 2007 data in 1 table. Now I want to split the table into by quarter tables 2005Q1, 2005Q2.....etc. It is because it is easier for me to housekeep the old data. (It takes about few hours to housekeep 3 month data currently, so that it affect my server performance a lot)
so I start my work, however it is failed every times. Actually, if I copy 3 month data to a new tables, it is nearly about 30 million records which needs about 1 GB space. However, it takes about 8 hours to complete the job and failed because of not enough space allocated. Actually, my Server has about 50GB space, but when the job complete and fail, all the space is occupied. But i wonder why this happen because the data only need about 1 GB, how come it use 50GB?
it seems that nothing i can do to housekeep the old data. because housekeep the current table takes too long time while splitting tables use up all the space. So how can i do?
For your information, the table has non-clustered index on the data date field
I'm a web developer who writes transact-SQL to make my web applications run properly. I'm not real strong in other areas of SQL. Let me explain our set-up and then I'll explain what I want to do:
We have an ecommerce web site and all sales are saved in a SQL Server 2008 R2 database at our hosting company. We also have a local Windows 2012 network that has SQL Server 2014 Express installed.
Here is what I want to do:
I want to copy sales rows from the SQL Server 2008 database at our hosting company and save them in the SQL Server 2014 Express database on our local Windows 2012 server. I'd like to automate this if possible so that it happens each night perhaps. I know there is a way to schedule SQL jobs but I've never actually done this. I also would need to know how to attach to our hosting company DB as well as our local network DB.
I have two SQL Server tables on the same server and in the same database. I'll call them table A and table B. They have identical schemas. I need to insert all rows in table A into table B. (Don't laugh - this is just for testing and long run the tables will reside on different servers.)
Can someone please tell me the correct task to use for this and the connection type I need for both the source and destination?
Copy objects and data between SQL Server databases " Display the Select Objects to Transfer dialog box, where you can specify both objects and data to copy, if both the data source and destination are Microsoft® SQL Server™ databases. The objects you can transfer include tables, views, stored procedures, defaults, rules, constraints, user-defined data types, logins, users, roles, and indexes. You can transfer objects only between multiple instances of SQL Server version 7.0, from an instance of SQL Server 7.0 to an instance of SQL Server 2000, and between multiple instances of SQL Server 2000. "
can I apply "Copy objects and data between SQL Server databases" to run in two different sqlserver 2000 ( not an instance ) . what I mean is I have two different sql servers located in two different locations( I am not using an instance installation) can I still run the copy and get an identical database in both servers. Q2. if I have two sql server 2000 with different collations (one is binary and the other is the default) will I be able to run the copy wizard and still have an identical copy of sql server in both servers.
I personally tried to run the copy wizard and IT NEVER WORKED FOR ME and I really do not know the reason.
I want to post all the data in my company branch office in Lahore to the Head office in Peshawar. This will be done at the end of the day and the two SQL SERVERs synchronize data between both points over internet. what procedure should i use? and how the two computers will know the ip addresses of each other while connecting?
I'm looking for some advice. We have multiple remote SQL Server 2005 systems at various clients that all contain the same WorkTrack database. We need to send this data on a daily basis from all of these remote servers to our main server (ChemWeb/Spindle) in our corporate office. The thing is that we need to do this over standard HTTP - no VPN connection, etc.
So I'm thinking of using SQL 2005 Web services to do such. Here's my plan (the name of the Database on the client side and server is WorkTrack, and SDP is the acronym I am using for a Spindle Data Packet which contains the data to be updated from the client)
1. Every day update a WorkTrack_SDP database on the client server that will contain all of the data from WorkTrack (name of Spindle Client Database) that has changed since the last SDP transfer. This WorkTrack_SDP database will only contain the tables from the WorkTrack database that are necessary for transfer to the ChemWeb/Spindle server
2. The WorkTrack_SDP database will have the same schema as the WorkTrack database with one additional Customer_No column in each table.
3. All of the tables in WorkTrack_SDP database will be truncated before insertion of updated data.
4. An acknowledgement of the previous SDP transfer and ChemWeb/Spindle Server update will be required before this process will proceed.
5. There will be an additional table in the Client WorkTrack database to track SDP transfers. a. Date/Time range of updated data of each transfer b. When the transfer was sent c. When the transfer was completed.
6. Create SPROC’s on the ChemWeb/Spindle server to serve as SQL Endpoints (Web Services) to update/insert data from client systems to WorkTrack_SDP database on the ChemWeb/Spindle Server.
7. Create SPROC on ChemWeb/Spindle server that will transfer data from WorkTrack_SDP into WorkTrack
Client side: 1. my DSN is CMDB.dsn on a mapped network drive(only way for now that I get a connection) 2. My client does not fail to connect, but I am having a hard time linking my database tables to each other. Through Access 03. 3. My client is remote 4. I can ping the server, 5. but I cannot telnet 6. My application is Access 2003, 7. I am on a different domain 9. I have table names that match, 10. I do not force encryption.
Server side: 1. SQL SERVER 2005 2. Standard Edition 3. TCPIP 4. The server starts fine 5. The SQL browser is enabled YES 6. Domain Account 7. Not applicable 8. NO
Platform: 1. Client runs Windows XP, Server runs Windows Server 2003
My question then is this: Does anyone know of code that can be used to import data from a CSV file to a server on a different domain? This is tricky cause the connection is not really allowing this kind of access. Which is my next question: How do you get these two applications to connect? I don't want to do it with ADP, and linking the tables I always seem to have to place the DSN on a mapped network drive to get results. Then after that I go to link tables from the SQL Server and the tables I created there are no where to be found. Why is this happening? It gives me a list of System tables but none of my
Ok, here is my dilemma I have an application that has many sites. Each site has it's own database. The databases have common tables (ie the name and fields are the same) What I want to be able to do is when creating a new database, I want to be able to copy certain common table data from one database to another. I have run into an error because the table have an IDENTITY so this is not working
INSERT INTO Containers SELECT * FROM ADMS2_Indian_Point.dbo.Containers
I also tried USE ADMS2_RSCS GO SET IDENTITY_INSERT Containers ON GO INSERT INTO Containers SELECT * FROM ADMS2_Indian_Point.dbo.Containers GO SET IDENTITY_INSERT Containers OFF GO
I got an error saying that I need to have a column list. I am trying to use this for any tables, so my question is this.. Is there any way to get around using a column list or is there a way to dynamically create the column list? Or, Is there a better way that I should be doing this?
Please keep in mind I am not a dba and everything I have learned about SQL is from my good pal Google :)
Is there a way to use SSIS to copy data from a SQLServer CE database to a SQL Server 2005 database?
I have a database that has only been used on a mobile device, but now I want to use it among several devices, so I want to copy the structure and data to a SQL Server 2005 database and expand it's scope.
I am trying to copy/update a table which is in server2 based on a similar table which is in server 1. I can't use replication, so I am thinking which are the best ways to do without affecting the performance as the source table is busy with inserts or updates. I am thinking of following options: 1. SQL server 2000 DTS packages: As I am trying to copy the data from the source table(server1) into a destination table which is a similar table in server2, if I use dts first I want to take the complete snapshot and then on I only want to copy the new transactions or updated transactions, please let me know how I can do this. 2. Does trigger affect the performance as the server1(source table) is a busy server. Please let me know. Thanks.
Can u please tell me how to copy data from table A(database A) to table B(databaseB) which table A contain 10 fields but table B consist of 11 fields. I have to insert current date and time into another field in Table B (which has extra field compare to tableA) automatically every hour or so. Please help. Thanx
