Using Reporting Services 2005
I have a date time field
Fields!CreatedDate.Value which I am grouping on and Counting on an ID Field
result of grouping is this
7/13/2006 12:00:00 AM 1
7/21/2006 12:00:00 AM 11
8/7/2006 12:00:00 AM 3
8/8/2006 12:00:00 AM 2
I know if I put (Month(Fields!CreatedDate.Value)
I get this result
7 1
7 11
8 3
8 2
What I really want is
July 12
August 5
how do I do this please

Is there a way to adjust the orientation of the grouping labels (x-axis) of a bar chart in a report. So instead of displaying the grouping label text horizontally I want to display the text vertically? Is there any way to access the chart object and code this in the report from properties ->code tab? Any suggestions?

I have created a report that uses a fairly complex IIF statement to sum the data. That part works just fine. Now I need to format the font color so negative values show in red. Is there a way to reference the individual cell (by its textbox name maybe?) in the Expression Editor?
For example, if tb_Orders was the name of the textbox that sums the data, I'd like to write something like:
=switch(tb_Orders < 0, "Red")
I could just copy the IIF statement but I'd rather keep things simple. This way, if I need to change the formulas, I don't have to change all of the conditional formatting as well.
Is this possible?

I have what should be a simple string formatting issue -- removing all alpha characters from a phone number. T-SQL below is simple and works just fine:
declare @home_phone as char(14);
set @home_phone = '(123)979-3206';
set @home_phone = REPLACE(@home_phone,'-','');
set @home_phone = REPLACE(@home_phone,'(','');
set @home_phone = REPLACE(@home_phone,')','');
The condensed version below works equally well:
set @home_phone = REPLACE((REPLACE((REPLACE(@home_phone,'(','')),')','')),'-','');
Either script above returns correct result:
select @home_phone;
Result = '1239793206'
HOWEVER, within SSIS Derived Column expressions, this function fails to remove parentheses. First of all, Expression Builder doesn't like outer single quotes (turns red) which I resolved by using double quotes resulting in the following expression:
REPLACE(home_phone,"-","") + REPLACE(home_phone,"'('","") + REPLACE(home_phone,"')'","")
Unfortunately, this expression fails to remove parentheses and instead returns: '(123)9793206'
I've tried several different permutations--no inner single quotes; adding more inner single quotes; etc., but so far no success. Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

I'm trying to put conditional formatting on a field, that behaves as follows:
The data in the field is varchar, and sample data is either:
NULL
3.0 :0
11.7 :1 (these are ratios of a sort)
I want to evaluate the first 3 characters of the string as numbers.
Example:
Mid(fieldvalue,1,3) = "3.0" or "11."
Any data that is greater than 1.99, I want to make the background dark red, anything else including nulls, zebra formatting. I have the following expression built so far and it appears to work, except when the value is null. If the value is null, it leaves the background color white.
This is the warning: [rsRuntimeErrorInExpression] The BackgroundColor expression for the text box "Asthma" contains an error: Input string was not in a correct format.

I'm using CTEs to try and get the totals of two different criteria queries that I want to group by Month depending on the associated Inquiry Date. Here is what I have right now;

I get 170 for InitCount, but for TransCount I only get 19, not 26. I assume it is with my left outer join statement grouping but I am not sure how I would change this to get the proper counts. All I want to do is group the values together depending on the month they were done in.

I'm unable to get the grouping right on this. Since the line details and line parts both are children of the line #, how do you do "parallel groups"?
There are 4 tables:
Work Order Header
Work Order Line
Work Order Line Details
Work Order Line Requisitions
The Header has a unique PK.
The Line uses the Header and a Line # as foreign keys that together are unique.
The Detail and requisition tables use the header and line #'s in addition to their own line number foreign keys. My queries ends up looking like this:

I have created 1 report with 2 datasets. This report is attached to the 1st dataset.For example,1st one is "Smallappliances", 2nd is "Largeappliances".
I created a tablix and, the 1st column extracts Total sales per Sales person between 2 dates from 1st dataset (Small appliances). I used running values expression and it works fine.
Now, I would like to add another column that extracts Total sales per sales person between 2 dates from 2nd dataset (Large appliances). I am aware that I need to use Lookup expression and it is giving me the single sales value rather than the total sales values. So, I wanted to use RunningValue expression within lookup table to get total sales for large appliances.
This is the lookup expression that I added for the 2nd column.
=Lookup(Fields!salesperson.Value,Fields!sales_person.Value,RunningValue(Fields!sales_amount.Value,
sum, " sales_person"),
"Largeappliances").
I get this error when I preview the report.An error occurred during local report processing.The definition of the report is invalid.An unexpected error occurred in report processing.

Hello all,I have a strange problem that i need some advice on. I have the following field called FILENO. It is a SQL 2000 field with the Data Type set to Char (7). I'm working as a consultant for a project and I have been having constant issues with the in house "database guru" about stored procedure formating.
He insists I use a format similar to this:
create procedure getUser @UserId int = NULL

where as I prefer this format:

Now normally I don't argue about style issues but I find his format confusing and it bothers me that it senselesly wastes lines make the stored procedure longer than necessary.
I'd love to get some comments on this issue or reference to any discussions on issues such as this.

Does anyone know why SQL Server Reporting Services formatts SQL weird? -- If I type a SQL statement in notepad or notepad++ and then paste it in Reporting Services it will change the whole structure and "expand" it out to three or four times its size.

I need to show my SUM of the 2 columns added in the query below formatted as currency. Is this possible?
SELECT SUM(QVSTDN + QVNONC) AS Total FROM INVOICE_TBL WHERE QVORDN = @QVORDN AND QVINV = @QVINV
I tried:
SELECT CONVERT(varchar(12), SUM(QVSTDN + QVNONC) , 1) AS Total FROM INVOICE_TBL WHERE QVORDN = @QVORDN AND QVINV = @QVINV
But this does not format it as currency. Any input would be helpful.

I am trying to output data from SQL Server to an email body message with a little formatting (just to make it legible)
Using this SQL statement:
select top 1 'Name', app_first_name+' '+app_last_name [name] ,'Submission Date', submission_date ,'Address', app_address+', '+app_city+', '+app_state+' '+app_zip from vw_bpa_export where app_email = dave@email.com order by submission_date desc
the resulting output displays this in the email body
"Name","Brian Vogler","Submission Date","2008-01-30 07:45:00","Address","6285 Harrow Trace, Norcross, GA 30092 "
but what I want is the text to look more like this:
Name Brian VoglerSubmission Date 2008-01-30 07:45:00Address 6285 Harrow Trace, Norcross, GA 30092
Is there a way to do this in the SQL statement (without HTML tags)?

I have values in my database that I'd like to display as $xxx,xxx.xx. Some of these values use the money datatype and others use float.
I'm building a string in a stored procedure that is eventually passed to Visual Basic. I want to format these values in the above format in the string that is passed. I've searched all through MSN and I couldn't find anything related to VB's FORMAT function in SQL Server.
Does Transact-SQL have any functions that could format these values for me?

Does anyone familiar with a tool or a quick way to put apostrophes and commas around some values, so they could be used in a query ? Example, if I have a bunch of zip codes such as:

etc
Let's say I have a couple of hundreds of them. I need to be able to see them as -

I am trying to run a query for the company that I work for and I am getting the right data but more than needed. the query is like this
select distinct(companyname),max(calldate) from tablename
what I want to see is the latest call made to a customer for each company
but what I get back is the company listed several times with the dates of each call. I only want the latest. Any help?

I have been requested to take a number of columns and concatenate them into one column with a specifc format/layout. For example I need to take this, (noting all columns are of different datatypes:
col_1 col_2 col_3 col_4 col_5 col_6 col_7
PK #1 John Doe 123 Elm Street Anywhere NM 55660

etc..
...and create this on a different table (noting col_2 is of datatype "text":
col_1 col_2

Can this type of formatting be done?
I know how to concatenate data and use the convert function, but how do you add in CR-LF to get the proper formatting??
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

(yyyy-mm-dd hh:mm:ss) how would I convert the date to this format
2001-10-08/10:35:45 (yyyy-mm-dd/hh:mm:ss)? The only thing added was the / between the date and time.

I am new to php/MySQL and am working on an online manual. The data is divided into Title and Content. The title is easy as it is one line but the content is meant to be in a number of paragraphs.
The Content field is currently set as "blob" and the text comes out as just one paragraph. Wha can I do to get paragraphs etc into the text?

Hi, I am running a script which inserts certain rows into a table and at the end of the execution, I do a select statement to show the inserted data as output in the results pane and it is showing as truncated...How can I show the full results..

I am using a MS Access ADP connected to SQL Server Data
In a view I have the following formula:
dbo.tblQuoteItem.Cost + dbo.tblQuoteItem.Markup * dbo.tblQuoteItem.Cost * .01
this calculates cost + markup
I cannot get it to format in Currency
Ex:
Cost is $1.75
Markup is 2.00 (2%)
Total shows - 1.785000
I want $1.78
Also - I am using this formula to calculate the Quoted price for the Qty Entered
dbo.tblQuoteItem.Qty * dbo.tblQuoteItem.Cost + dbo.tblQuoteItem.Markup * dbo.tblQuoteItem.Cost * .01
Using a Qty of 2 for above, I get 3.535000
I want $3.53
Any help is appreciated - AB
