Host Multiple Sites On Report Server?

Mar 28, 2007

Is it possible to host more than one site on the server that hosts reporting services? We have a web app that is accessed through intranet. This site is hosted (IIS)on the same server as the sql server 2005 database that is used as the backend. Is it possible to run reporting services from this same server? or does the reporting services default site require to be the only site hosted?

SQL Replication For Multiple Sites

Oct 5, 2007

I am trrying to figure out what the best replication would be to use and or setup...

Her eis the current goal and structure..

We are just moving over to a new custom POS system that will be using SQL databases....We have have three locations and we want each location to be independent in case of network connectively failures to our primary location.

Basically, all three locations will be running SQL server 2005 and the POS app...
We want replication to occur overnight, so that each location will have the other locations transactions from the previous days, etc...

Essencially I want all three locations to "syncronize" their data every night....basically two-way replicaiton between all three sites...

Master Site will have say databaseA that the local POS system will use
Sencond Site will have say databaseA that the local POS system will use as well

Third Site will have say databaseA that the local POS system will use well...

Any thoughts or Ideas will be helpful

Thx
Martin

Geographic Data, Multiple Sites And Replication

Mar 13, 2002

Hello all, I am in the process of doing some research and thought I would query you guys (and gals) for your opinions. I have never setup replication and my company is bringing up multiple sites, multiple GIS servers with one master GIS server. They want them to be replicated. Network bandwidth throughout the day is a concern and I may have an option to run replication at night. All servers will be continuously connected and they tell me that each site will be owners of it's data so data conflict should not be an issue. I originally thought qued-updating subscribers and transactional replication but it sounds like that does not work if the servers will always be connected. Any opinions on this anyone? Also, keep in mind that this is GIS data so there will be pretty big blob files in the database. Thanks in advance. RayH

Database Connection Pooling Behavior For Multiple IIS Sites.

Mar 28, 2006

How does database connection pooling work for multiple "copies" of the same web application on the same server?  My IIS 5 win2K server has 32 sites, all pointed to the same code. Each site responds to a different IP/URL(www.a.com, www.b.com, etc.) for SSL reasons. DB is SQL 2000.
Based on perf stats, as a new site spins up, a new pool is created.  So when I hit site 1, I see 10 pooled connections. Site 2 bumps it up to 20, etc.  However, I don't see it go up to 320, so it isn't linear.
BTW, I'm trying to build a case for having 1 site/application that all URL's point to in order to conserve memory, connection pooling, caching, etc.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

SQL 2000 Replication Agents Connecting To Local Host Multiple Times?

Aug 21, 2007

Hi all

I have SQL 2000 SP4 running on a W2K server SP4.

The server acts as a subcriber and publisher and acts as its own distributor.
Each publication uses its own distribution agent and is set to loop.

There are 4 queued updating subscriptions on this box.

When running 3rd party tools to determine open active ports, the replication executables (distrib and logreader) are connecting to local server multiple times. Easily 15+ established connections plus many more waits.

Everything connects to 1433 then opens a new port.

Is this because of the queued updating?

Replication is functioning as it should without any problems.

I even checked our 2 main distribution servers which only act as distributors and there is not one connection from replication to itself.

Any insight would be appreciated

Thx
John

Maintaining SQL Server At Customer Sites

Apr 18, 2003

I am wondering how people maintain their SQL Servers which run at several customers sites and disk space is getting smaller and smaller? I want to say that we have tables in SQL dbs which hold a lot of date consisting of statistics, errors, logs etc.
They grow and grow and existing data is not needed anymore as soon as the data get older than let's say for one year. How do you overcome the problem reducing the tables but not charging the system too much as the major application also runs on the same server?

Thanks for any input

Hosting Multiple Environments On One Report Server

Sep 17, 2007

All,

Is there a way to simulate hosting three environments on one Report Server. Due to resource limitations, I would like to set up three environments DEV, TEST, STAGE on one report server such that the data source for each environment would be different. Can I use a different folder structure for each and then deploy the reports by providing server url accordingly?

e.g.
http://servername/DEV_Reports or should it be (http://servername/ReportServer/DEV_Reports)

http://servername/TEST_Reports
http://servername/STAGE_Reports

and then in each of the above define a datasource that has connections to appropriate database on db server. Can we do something like this?

Thanks.

Merging Multiple Report Server Instances Into One

Sep 18, 2007

Greetings... I'm working at consolidating several Reporting Services installations into one so we can decommission some old servers. We have two Report Servers that are in SQL Server 2000 and three that are in SQL Server 2005 (none are in a web farm configuration). I can upgrade the 2000 databases to 2005 format just fine, but now how do I merge these five ReportServer/ReportServerTempDB databases into one? I'm reluctant to redeploy reports to the "official" Report Server because we lose security, subscription, and scheduling information by doing that. So redeploy would cost us time and data loss over hundreds of reports, thus my hope to merge the databases at a data level. Is there a tool to automate this process, or has anyone tried this before? Thanks in advance.

Changing Host Server Name

Oct 24, 2000

At work, we are in the process of moving a server running SQL Server 7 from one domain to another. A part of this domain change will necessitate that the server be renamed. In a couple of tests that we ran we found that changing the domain does not cause problems, but changing the server name does. How does one register the databases with the new server name without reinstalling everything from scratch?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated as we are under a time crunch here. Please reply to my email as I am unable to check this board often.

Connecting To SQL Server On A VPC Host

Jan 19, 2008

VPC Host: Vista 64Bit
VPC Guest: Win2K3 (32Bit)

VPC is configured to use the wireless card on the host.
Firewalls on both systems are completely disabled.
Machines can ping each other.
Both machines can access the Internet.
I can browse the SQL Reporting Services Web Site on the Host from the Guest.
Host SQL Install has remote connections enabled.
If I browse for Network server from teh connect dialog on teh Guest, it finds the Host.

Why can't I connect to the Databse Engine on the Host from the Guest?
I have tried both TCP/IP and Named Pipes and both show a connection failure. (Not a login failure)

If it matters, the Guest OS also has a SQL Database Engine running. But I don't know why that would stop me from connecting to a remote instance.

And suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Issues On Changing Name Of Our SQL Server Host

Feb 18, 2002

Issues on Changing Name of our SQL Server Host
Michael G (m1g@hotmail.com)

We are going to rename the Server machine Host Name that our SQL2000
(named instance) Server now resides on.

* I am searching for all references in Operating System items, such as .cmd, .bat. ftp files referring to it (eg., sqlservNM)
* I am searching for all references in Operating System items, such
as ODBC, VB ADO, DOA and DSN-less connections that refer to it.
These references will be changed manually on the day of the change.

I am NOT so certain that I need to search for all SQL Server Objects referring to it, (eg., DTS packages and scheduled Jobs). Must these
objects be changed manually or will they be redirected somehow?

Anyone with any experience on this?

Thanks,
Michael

SQL Server Do Host Variables Need Rtrim

Aug 13, 2007

I understand that for SQL Server rtrim is not needed in where clause equates because SQL Server

automatically trims the spaces. Is rtrim necessary when comparing to a host variable since rtrim is a deterministic function? It it needed in the following example
Select ....
where
TEXT = rtrim(:I--HV-001)

TEXT is a varchar column in the SQL Server database and it is getting compared to the host variable.

MSSQL Dbo Table Duplicates On Host Server

Apr 26, 2005

(i am not sure which forum to post this too)
Hi, I imported a table onto my host's server, table_Login which has username password, and userID. userID is Primary Key & identity.
When I had my code do insert of new user, I was getting error the Login.userID doesn't allow null values. Which shouldn't have mattered because userID is an identity.
After making a diagram from Enterprise Manager, I noticed that I have two Login tables (although only one shows in Enterprise Manager's "Table" node view. The second table, which had none of the constraints that my table of the same name which is listed under the "Table" node does; appears to be the table which is being written to by my code.
I can't find this table, Login(dbo), through Enterprise Manager, nor am i sure how to access it through Query Analyzer. Needless to say, I don't like this arrangement. and well tech support for this host seems to leave a lot to be desired.
Anyone know what needs to be done so that I can fix it or fight with tech support to convince them that they should?
