Hotfix.exe Is Not A Valid Win32 Application.

Jan 1, 2008

Ok..So the story is I'm trying to install a SQL Server 2005 SP2 upgrade from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=d07219b2-1e23-49c8-8f0c-63fa18f26d3a&DisplayLang=en

I'm sure my computer is either x64 or ia64, and I have downloaded both the installation files but both of them give me the same error, when the installation bar at the start is pretty much full, it gives me a "hotfix.exe is not a valid Win32 application." error.
And instead of installing it to the usual C: directory, it installs to the F: directory..And it does not give me an option to choose which directory I want to install it into..

My operating system is a Windows XP Pro..

Hope somebody can help me out soon..
Thanks in advance.

Replication -Is Not A Valid Win32 Application.

Apr 22, 2002

Hi all,
I have a problem is that I cannot perform the transacional replication from one server (ms-sql2k) to other server (mssqlserver).

The error show below :
Log Reader Agent - Is not a valid win32 application.

I try to setup another server (mssql2k) to do the same thing, there is no error appeared.
Therefore, I have doubt that the name of the computer using "-" will have problem. Or the registry of (ms-sql2k) may have problem because it had wrongly installed personal edition and re-installed the standard verions afterwards.

Can anyone tell me the root of the problem ?

Simon

%1 Is Not A Valid Win32 Application - Trying To Execute A Batch File

Feb 12, 2008

Today I ran into the error (see title of this post) while trying to execute a batch file using SSIS. If anyone else runs into this problem I want to point them to my post on the issue, as I did not easily find a solution when doing the search myself: http://blog.lyalin.com/2008/02/1-is-not-valid-win32-application-ssis.html

Summary (So you dont need to visit my blog):

I was trying to execute a totally empty placeholder batchfile and this produces the "%1 is not a valid win32 application" error when using Execute Process Task. Simply add something to your placeholder file (like DIR command) and you can continue running your package without error

I hope this saves someone time in the future.

Comments? If anything in my post is inaccurate I hope you guys post some corrections.

Dmitry

Valid Stored Procedure Returns Error In ASP.net Application

Jan 17, 2005

I have a stored procedure that works when executed in query analyzer. (It is also way too long to post here) When called from my application ado.net returns the error:

Invalid object name #idTable

If I run the proc in query analyzer using the same parameters (copied from quickwatch while debugging) there is no error.

While very complicated, this procedure runs quickly so timing out is not an issue.

Does anyone know why a proc would run in query analyzer and not in an asp.net/c# application?

Thank you.

Win32 DLL Reloaded !

Aug 1, 2007

I'm trying to debug some CLR UDTs that uses unsafe acess to a win32 dll, I'm modifying both the win32 DLL and the UDTs DLL at the same time.

To let SQL server load the win32 DLL I've put ot into the ...Binn directory, all worked ok. Now I want to update the win32 DLL... and here cames troubles :

- I've tied to stop sqlserver / overwrite DLL / start sqlserver, but does not works. The DLL is also 'overwiteable' while SQL server is using it... this makes me think that sqlserver stores the win32 DLL in other places (maybe inside the DB) and does not uses the original one in the Binn dir

- I've tried to reload the CLR assembly, doen't works

- I've also tried to drop and recreate the assembly and doesn't works too... anyway this is not even possible in a production server since it would require me to drop all tables that uses the UDTs.

(does't works means that the win32 DLL behavior is the same)

Anyone knows how to do this basic task ?

Win32::ODBC Connect To MSSQL

Apr 19, 2004

Hi,

I wanted to know if there is a way to connect to my MSSQL without having to setup a datasource in the control panel.

Perferably I want to locate the database within my perl code instead. I don't want to have to setup a datasource each time I need a different database. Perhaps there is a way to pass the name of the database along with the username and password through the command line.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Win32 Error:-2146893813 With SQL 2005 On XP

Aug 6, 2007

I'm not exactly sure when this error occured, as I typically access databases running on a server. However, I've recently encountered this error when trying to access my local instance of SQL Server 2005 Developer edition. I'm assuming it's due to a recent windows update.

The dialog box that comes up with this error is titled: Microsoft .NET Framework
The full error is: System.Exception: CryptUnprotectData: Win32 error:-2146893813

Any ideas on what happened and how to fix this?

Thanks

Porting Database Functions From WM 5 Pocket PC To WIN32

Apr 21, 2008

Hi all,

I'm working on porting a solution running under WM 5 Pocket PC to Win32 but I got some problems with type definitions like CEOID, CEGUID... I saw that these types are defined in windbase.h (EDB definition added to preprocessors) ) which includes types and definitions usefull for database managment. Anyway this header file is not present in C:Program FilesMicrosoft Platform SDK for Windows Server 2003 R2Include, so I was wondering which is the header file I can use instead of it. Thanks

Hotfix On Sp2

Mar 14, 2007

Hello,

Just want to know if anybody else has problems with the hotfix ?

I have a sqlserver 2005 on my desktop.

I installed the sp2 before 5th march.

Recently Microsoft changed the sp2 and released a hotfix for sp2 installed(downloaded) before 5th march.

I installed the hotfix but it failed to update the sqlserver engine.

Very weird.

I uninstalled sqlserver 2005, applied the new sp2 (which was smaller compared with previous one)

Today i still received a critical update in windows update.

I installed it, but i still don't trust these updates.

How can i investigate all went well ?

Which Hotfix To Apply?

We would like to apply a hotfix to solve the issue that brought our server down. The hotfix we are trying to apply is in Build 3175. But the latest Cumulative Update 3 Package is Build 3186. Should we apply 3175? Or we can go for the latest build 3186? Which is recommended?

Select All Hotfix.

May 16, 2008

Hi,

Is there anyone know where to get the hotfix to put the "Select All" option back on multi-value parameter list after SP1?
The reason why I didn't install SP2 because it requires to install print control on client side. At the moment our company try to avoid it.
Or is there a way to avoid this print control?
I hope to see some responses from MSFT support team.

Cheers,
XL

SP1 Hotfix 919478

Feb 12, 2007

I have SP1 on most of my servers. My users however do not. They have been developing using "select all" and are now ready to deploy a major project, I am in the process of installing the hotfix so my question is "they do not have SP1 and I have SP1 along with the hotfix" will that work or does this hot fix require that the client tools have SP1 and the hotfix applied as well"? They do not want to change their development environment since they are so close to deployment of their reports. Thank you!!

Memory Errors After HotFix 8.00.0679

Feb 17, 2003

Post installation of Hotfix Update 8.00.0679 (for the slammer worm) we've encountered this error on our production server "2003-02-13 09:54:17.14 server Error: 17882, Severity: 18, State: 1
2003-02-13 09:54:17.14 server Error accepting connection request via Net-Library 'SSNETLIB'. Execution continuing..".

This appears to correlate with attempts to access our SQL7 server, which was also patched for the worm (Hotfix 7.00.1030) via any query analyzer linked server reference; in fact the linked server attempt fails on a 'general network failure'.

On the SQL2000 side, the SSNETLIB failure is followed by failures in "Stored function 'xp_enumerrorlogs' in the library 'xpstar.dll' generated an access violation" and then all backups fail on memory allocation failures and major database selects of 100K's records fail on "unable to allocate thread".

Anyone have any thoughts or experiences germane? I'm about to undo the security patch on both servers.

Thanks,

Al

Applying A Hotfix To A Failover Cluster

Jan 25, 2008

Hi. Was hoping to get some advice on applying a hotfix to a SQL Server 2005 failover Cluster.

The hotfix I am applying (KB933508) relates to a Maintenance Plans issue with Server 2005 Service Pack 2. During installation I'm advised that unless the SQL Server and other services are stopped a reboot will be required, although I can still install the hotfix. However the installation is failing. There are error details in the relevant logs created in C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server90Setup BootstrapLOGHotfix to the effect that the 'Debug' value in registry key 'SoftwarePoliciesMicrosoftWindowsInstaller' can't be read and that SQL Server was unable to add a user (the account under which SQL Server Agent and Analysis Services run) to a local group (the domain group in which SQL Server logins are contained).

Is this something simple like explicitly shutting down the services first before applying the hotfix or is there something else going on?

Regards,

YaHozna

Applying Hotfix To A Single Instance

Aug 1, 2013

I've got a 4 node SQL 2008R2 cluster (configured 2 active - 2 passive), and 9 instances, of which all but one are on SP1 (the most recent addition is on SP2).

I need to apply a hotfix (Cumulative Update 6 for SP1) to just one instance. Can I do this by failing over the affected instance to one of the passive nodes, applying the hotfix, and failing it back again or do I need to apply the hotfix to all nodes as detailed in:

SQL Server failover cluster rolling patch and service pack process

i.e. will it involve a little downtime for all instances on the cluster?
