How Can Client Get Service Pack Of Ssis Installed On Server?
Apr 12, 2008
if we installed ssis on the same server much later than the engine itself, could it have been installed successfully at an earlier service pack than the engine? I did a select @@version on the engine and got
Microsoft SQL Server 2005 - 9.00.1399.06 (Intel X86) Oct 14 2005 00:33:37 Copyright (c) 1988-2005 Microsoft Corporation Standard Edition on Windows NT 5.0 (Build 2195: Service Pack 4)
I cant see a way from the client to get a service pack on ssis itself. I'd like to be sure about a suggestion from one of your contributors before approaching our technical guys about their failure to install sp 2 of something.

Hi all,
Does anyone know, apart from the documentation that one keeps on these things, which service pack is installed in SQL Server.
Microsoft versioning reports on 8.00.760 for both.
Any ideas please?
Rgds,
Jim.

Hi,
I have the subject question both related to MS-SQL Server (desktop version) AND MS-Analysis services.
When I do do Help | About in the Analysis Manager, I get
Version: 8.00.382
And doing the same in Enterprise Manager, I get:
Version: 8.0
Is this indicating that SP3 (which I think is the latest) has been installed or??
Thanks.

I upgraded the OS on my SQL 2005 SP2 to Windows 2003 SP2. Everything still works fine but now Windows Update says that I need SQL 2005 SP2 again. I checked the version of SQL on the server and it's still SP2. Did the Windows service pack somehow downgrade parts of my SQL installation? I know I can probably just reinstall the SQL service pack but I was just curious...

We are running SQL Server 7.0 on an NT Server in an NT environment. We have Service Pack 2 installed on the server hosting the database. Do we need the service pack installed on the client machines? Even if they only need client connectivity? Also does anyone know what fixes sp3 is supposed to fix? We are running our production environment without any known problems using sp2 and really dont want to disrupt it with sp3 if its not needed. Thanks in advance.

I have recently installed SQL Server SP2 on a Windows 2003 x64 server SP 1 and now I cannot open existing packages on that machine. The packages work fine on other machines. Also, when I create a new package and then attempt to add a data flow component, I get an error that the designer could not be initialized. It does add the component, but when I try to delete it, I get an error that the collection cannot be null (parameter: c). I have read some posts that point to registry permssions, and have ran the sample c# code, but I do not see any problems. Anyone have a suggestion?

2 Questions:
1) I am getting back into SQL more than before, in my new job. I need to find the service pack installed on the clients who have the Client Network Utility installed. I do not remember how to do this.
2) Running 'Select @@VERSION' on the server returns 7.00.1063 but does not indicate the service pack. Does this still mean sp4 has been installed?
I'm trying to ensure we'll all up to date since our dual 700 procs are acting eratic...jumps between 10 - 95% or so.
Server info:
NT Server SP6
SQL 7.0
2GB Ram
2 procs @ 700Mhz
Roughly 80 network connections.
No other programs running on server except Antivirus.
Thank you!

Hello,
Does Service Pack 2 affect client tools? In other words, if you have a client machine with just the tools installed (management studio, BIDS, etc) do I need to run the SP2 package on this client as well?

I am new to SQL server 2005
Windows 2003 Server and all client PCs are all on the same network. I installed SQL 2005 std version on windows server 2003 and created a database and tables in it.
I have two users, who want to connect to SQL server 2005 from their PCs (they have windows XP):
These are two things that I need to facilitate:
1) They want to be able to write queries using Query Designer and run from their PCs.
2) I created an MS Access database on my PC, I want to use Access database as a front end to the SQL server database. I will create queries, forms in Access DB, and I want to be able to get the data from SQL server Database to do this. I guess I can use ODBC to connect to tables in SQL server database.
3) I want to connect SQL server to Oracle database, and run oracle stored procedures. I want to load the results of oracle stored procedures into SQL server database tables. I guess I will use IIS for this.
Any suggestions are appreciated, especially with item number 1.

Has anyone had a problem when installing service pack 2 or 3 on SQL Server 7.0? I'm stuck at MDAC upgrade every time, had to 'end task'. Did select @@version afterwards, still on the old version. I didn't try service pack 1 yet.
I found the following page titled "Can't install SQL server service pack 1", but I'm unable to access.

I wanted to find out more about Service Pack 5. I have heard that the purpose of this service pack is to make SQL Server 6.5 Y2K compliant.
Does anyone know anything about this Service Pack (its contents, release date etc). I have checked the Microsoft SQL Server home page, MSDN Library, TechNet, Knowledge Base and have not had much luck.
Thanks!
