View 1 Replieshi,
i need to start an external program (vb.net) from within a trigger. via xp_cmdshell everything works fine except that the execution of the trigger waits for the vb-program to finish.
now i tried a workaround with a "starter application" which only calls the vb.net program (asynchronous) an ends.
this works fine from a dos prompt (command prompt returns immediately and vb.net task is running). but when i call the starter app from the trigger with xp_cmdshell, the behavior is the same as before: execution does not continue until the vb.net task ends.
any other ideas that could solve my problem? submitting an agent-job is not fine for me because i need to supply parameters to the called program and maybe i need call it more than once at the same time.
thanks
thomas
Hi,
Is there a stored proc or a function I can call from Query Analyzer to execute another .EXE and return when it's finished?
I'd like something like
SET @RET = sp_CallEXE('c:mypathmyprogram.exe myparameters')
(Except for the name of the function, there should be something that does this right? I mean, DTS does it already so it must be referring to a function or a SP.)
I want an answer to so that I can validate that everything went well (hence the @RET variable)
Thanks,
Skip.
Student from norway needs help. After update on certain rows a trigger will trigg a program (using LDAP?) That fetches data and stores it in an Active Directory What should this trigger look like, it only starts another program.
Thanks

We noticed SQL Server 2005 is creating Program FilesCommon FilesMicrosoft SharedDW on our largest drive for each 64-bit installation. Does anyone know what this is? It appears there is no Microsoft documentation regarding this installation and if we need to keep it. It may be .NET related, but I have no idea why it is needed.

View 1 Replies View Relatedthe idea is to put together a folder that is in some place in the computer, like "c:excel_fles" and the database full backup in a single .bak file, the database can be recovered with sql server management studio(but no the folder), the restoration of the program can be done with a program, I think it can be done with msdb, but I'm a little lost in the road.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have created a trigger to call a program that is written by our program. The program is basically read the record in the table and write to a text file, then delete the record from the table.
The trigger is a after insert trigger. After we added the trigger, we insert a record to the table. The result is that the record still and did not get deleted. Also, the text file didn't get created either. It seems that it take a long time for the record to be written to the table.
But if we just run the program (a exe file), it can write a text file in the folder and delete the record. the trigger is basically:

SET ANSI_NULLS ON
GO

View 3 Replies View RelatedHello everybody,
Could anybody tell me how can I stop the executable program which I am using in Arguments field of Execute Process Task Editor window. My SSIS process based on three steps.
1. retrieve the file from FTP location
2. Process the file by using windows 32bit application
3. transfer the processed file back to FTP location
The problem occurs in step 2, it opens the win32 application for processing and it does process BUT after that it won't exit untill I close it manually, so it never reaches to step 3 if I don't close it.
Thanks in advance.

Hello
I know its possible since i saw it on a demonstration ;)
I want to loop through all files in an folder and execute them as SQL Script in an SSIS Project. Can anyone help on how to realize this? I dont know which task can be used to read the content of a file into a variable
Hi,
How do I execute all the .sql scripts in a folder with OSQL command?
Thanks in advance,
Hari Haran Arulmozhi
Hello, I wanted to do the following.
Copy a full directory from source to destination (Done)
then for each file on the destination directory,it must process that file and insert rows on the table.
So I created a foreach loop, and created a varriable aclled CURRENTFILENAME, and assigned it into the foreachloop to index 0.
Inside the foreachloop I created a dataflow task, in the dataflow task I dragged a flat file source and an oledb destination, but I noticed that the flat file source requires flat file manager, and the flat file manager requires a unique FILE NAME. I cant put this c:copia*.txt.
I took a loot at flat file source properties and it has associated the flat file manager, but I can not assign the filename to the variable from the foreach.
Any ideas please
I've been struggling with this issue,
1) Test--FolderName (This Test folder name should use as a database name for below sub folders)
a)Create--Sub Foldername
i)create.sql
b)Alter---Sub FolderName
i)Alter.sql
c)Insert---Sub FolderName
i)Insert.sql
[Code] .....
The scripts need to be run in order. So script one needs to run first folder in that sub folders after that next second folders etc..
Is there a way to create a bat file that automatically runs all these scripts, in order against, the databases they need to?
The databases that they need to run against have the name of the database at the beginning of the name of the folder.
I have created for each container to call all the packages in a folder like below, also created a variable.
Then I add execute package task inside of foreach container and selected file system in a location and in connection called currently creating package name finally in connection properties i added variable in expression which i created and mapped into for each loop container. I referred below link
[URL] ....
All the packages are running but its not ending once all the packages executed its re run and continue the running process, how to stop once all the packages execute.
why we use sql exceptions ...
what the program will do if we caught that exception .. i need some suggestions ... i got this exception(String or binary data would be truncated.
The statement has been terminated.).. will it affect the functionality of the program...
hiow can i avoid this exception..
I am trying to move my application (asp.net) from a non-paged
select to a paged query.
I am having a problem. Below is my Stored Procedure. The
first Query in the procedure works...the rest (which are commented
out ALL work interactively, but fail when the program tries to
access....The ONLY THING I change is the stored procedure
I switch the comment lines to the non-paged procedure and it
works, I try to use the any of the paged procedures and it
fails with the same error (included below)
I can't see where any of the queries are returning

Dear all:
I had got the below error when I execute a DELETE SQL query in SSIS Execute SQL Task :
Error: 0xC002F210 at DelAFKO, Execute SQL Task: Executing the query "DELETE FROM [CQMS_SAP].[dbo].[AFKO]" failed with the following error: "The transaction log for database 'CQMS_SAP' is full. To find out why space in the log cannot be reused, see the log_reuse_wait_desc column in sys.databases". Possible failure reasons: Problems with the query, "ResultSet" property not set correctly, parameters not set correctly, or connection not established correctly.
But my disk has large as more than 6 GB space, and I query the log_reuse_wait_desc column in sys.databases which return value as "NOTHING".
So this confused me, any one has any experience on this?
Many thanks,

Hi Experts
Is there a way to find out programmatically using T-SQL where the current log folder is located for a SQL insatance? if for example the log folder is located under the C: as
C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLLOG
I need to find the path where the log folder is placed. If there is a way please share the trick.
Thank you
AK
I am trying to send a variable selected by the user and have all of the results that match that selection show in a datagridview. I tried using this query but it gives me not result.
//code
SELECT wasteDate, wasteFeed, wasteLbs
FROM tbWaste
WHERE (wasteDate = 'date1')
//code
date1 is being set by a datetimepicker
I am getting no results when I run the program
I have tried out every different combination of ways of coding it i can think of
if anyone can help it would be greatly appriciated.
I dont alot about sql server 2005(Express edition). For debugging purposes i want to copy the whole app_data folder(.mdf & .log files) on the production server to another folder on the same machine(or sometimes to a network folder). So when i copy and try to paste this App_data folder to a new location, i get this error message
"cannot copy ASPNETDB: it is being used by another person or program. close any programs that might be using the file and try again."
After reading the above message, i close visual web developer, stop the website in IIS and stop the SQLExpress service on the server and try again but still get the same message.
So how can i make sure that all the programs accessing these database files are closed such that i'm able able to copy them to a different location.
I know a WMI event watcher can be used to watch for a new file being added to a folder. However, I need to check for new folders being added to an existing folder. I haven't been able to find a post on doing this. Is there a way in WQL to check for a new folder being added instead of a new file? I've used SQL for years, but am new to SSIS.

Ok,
I have a network folder called A
I have a SharePoint (2007) Document Library site called B. Web Client is enabled on the server and B is mapped as a Drive (let's call it Y for this discussion)
I want to move documents in A to B. Easy enough, right? Not so....
I first started by creating a batch file that issues a COPY \A \Y /Y at the command prompt. Viola! Worked Great!
I then moved that command to a SQL Agent job as a CMDExec statement (exact same statement) and attempted to run it.....CRASH! It found the files in A but then said "The system cannot find the path specified"
Ok, so I tried it in SSIS. CRASH! Checked the error log. Same thing...
So I then checked the account under which the SQl Agent was running (special domain account for all our SQL Servers). Thinking it might mater I changed it to run under my name (I'm in Domain admin). I also ensured I had permissions to the SPS 2007 library as well. (I did).
Ran again! CRASH! Same error....
So, I created a batch file , placed thec ommand in the batch file and ran that from the command prompt! Viola! Worked Great.
So, I was thinking of how ingenious I was as I pasted my C:RootCopy.bat into my SQL Agent job. With a big grin on my face I right clicked and picked "Start Job at step".......CRASH! Same error.
Does anyone have any ideas on this ???????????????
Thanks,
Stephen
I am trying to run a UNION ALL query in SQL SERVER 2014 on multiple large CSV files - the result of which i want to get into a table in SQL Server. below is the query which works in MSAccess but not on SQL Server 2014:
SELECT * INTO tbl_ALLCOMBINED FROM OPENROWSET
(
'Microsoft.JET.OLEDB.4.0' , 'Text;Database=D:DownloadsCSV;HDR=YES',
'SELECT t.*, (substring(t.[week],3,4))*1 as iYEAR,
''SPAIN'' as [sCOUNTRY], ''EURO'' as [sCHAR],
[Code] ....
What i need is:
1] to create the resultant tbl_ALLCOMBINED table
2] transform this table using PIVOT command with following transformation as shown below:
PAGEFIELD: set on Level = 'Item'
COLUMNFIELD: Sale_Week (showing 1 to 52 numbers for columns)
ROWFIELD: sCOUNTRY, sCHAR, CATEGORY, MANUFACTURER, BRAND, DESCRIPTION, EAN (in this order)
DATAFIELD: 'Sale Value with Innovation'
3] Can the transformed form show columnfields >255 columns i.e. if i want to show all KPI values in datafield?
P.S: the CSV's contain the same number of columns and datatype but the columns are >100, so i dont think it will be feasible to use a stored proc to create a table specifying that number of columns.
I have a set of folders with the following structure:
MainFolder
1999
SpreadsheetA.xls
SpreadsheetB.xls
SpreadsheetC.xls
2000
SpreadsheetA.xls
SpreadsheetB.xls
SpreadsheetC.xls
etc.
Is there a way that I can use the foreach loop container to loop the sub folders? My plan was to get the folder name and path into a variable, use this to build the connection string for each file in this folder, carry out the upload for that folder, then move onto the next folder and do the same thing, but I cannot see a way to do this.
Thanks,
Sam
One way to save storage space is to put the SQL data files into a compressedfile. Has anyone got any idea how this will affect the query speed?
