Problem Running SSIS From C# Executable When Kicked Off By Another Executable.

Sep 26, 2007

If I kick off my C# executable from the server everything works fine but if I have another C# executable kick off the C# executable that runs the SSIS I get an error message saying it cannot run SSIS package. I am thinking it sounds like a permissions problem but not sure. Any suggestions/guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Errors I am getting.

Can I Export Tables So That Existing Tables In Destination Database Will Be Modified?

Jul 20, 2005

I'm working on an ASP.Net project where I want to test code on a localmachine using a local database as a back-end, and then export it tothe production machine where it uses the hosting provider's SQL Serverdatabase on the back-end. Is there a way to export tables from oneSQL Server database to another in such a way that if a table alreadyexists in the destination database, it will be updated to reflect thechanges to the local table, without existing data in the destinationtable being lost? e.g. suppose I change some tables in my localdatabase by adding new fields. Can I "export" these changes to thedestination database so that the new fields will be added to thedestination tables (and filled in with default values), without losingdata in the destination tables? If I run the DTS Import/Export Wizard that comes with SQL Server andchoose "Copy table(s) and view(s) from the source database" and choosethe tables I want to copy, there is apparently no option *not* to copythe data, and since I don't want to copy the data, that choice doesn'twork. If instead of "Copy table(s) and view(s) from the sourcedatabase", I choose "Copy objects and data between SQL Serverdatabases", then on the following options I can uncheck the "CopyData" box to prevent data being copied. But for the "CreateDestination Objects" choices, I have to uncheck "Drop destinationobjects first" since I don't want to lose the existing data. But whenI uncheck that and try to do the copy, I get collisions between theproperties of the local table and the existing destination table,e.g.:"Table 'wbuser' already has a primary key defined on it."Is there no way to do what I want using the DTS Import/Export Wizard? Can it be done some other way?-Bennett

Checking For Modified Dates For Tables

Jul 11, 2003

In the olden days when I used databases that kept each table in a separate file, I used to be able to tell when a specific table was modified by the date stamp on the file.

Is there a method in SQL server to check the "last modifed date" at the table level?

I didn't see anything in sysobjects.

Get File Modified Date

Jan 10, 2008

Hi,

the ssis package loops through a folder using a foreach loop container and imports the data inside each .csv file into the database.

Now I would like to add the functionality to first check the modified date of the .csv file. If it is NOT today's date then the package should fail or go to error.

Any thoughts how to do this please?

Thanks

File And Date Modified

Jul 20, 2007

Hello all,

I was just thinking about a situation which I have been tasked with in that I have a package that is scheduled to run once a day which will import data from a flat file. The data does not have any distinguishing time that can be used to see whether or not it is beyond a last imported time.

I was wondering, is there a way to access the date modified of the file? If so I could simply append this time to a table which keeps track of all of the files and the modified dates which I have ever imported for this task.

I'm thinking an ActiveX task and variable currently, just wondered if anyone had any other thoughts on how this could be achieved.

CMD Executable From A Job Step

Feb 28, 2002

I'm trying to initiate an executable from a job step. This executable functions normally from a command prompt on the server and will initiate properly from a DTS package that is executed locally by a logged in user. It won't run from Query Analyzer, an Operating System Command jobstep, or a scheduled DTS package. The executable creates a report that gets written to disk and a window shows briefly during execution.

MS SQL 2000 on Win2K.

Any clues as to how to run this executable from a scheduled jobstep?

Thanks if you can help,
Mack

How To Execute An Executable Using A Sqlserver Job

Jun 14, 1999

I am trying to run an executable via a scheduled sqlserver job. I have set the jobstep type to CMDEXEC; and the commands for the jobstep that I have tried are:

start c:estinsertindb.exe
c:estinsertindb.exe
c:estinsert.bat
insert.bat above contains c:estinsertdb.exe or
start c:estinsertdb.exe
Is there an exception that will not allow a job to run an exe file?

I am running into a similar problem using the NT scheduler via the "at" command.
With NT, I run a bat file with the following command to create a scheduled task or job (at 10:10 /every:M,W,F c:estinsertdb.exe).
At 10:10, when the job is scheduled to run, nothing happens; but if I edit the job and manually start the job, it runs.

Saving Tables That Are Generated By Queries As HTML File Or Sub-tables

Oct 17, 2006

I have a trade data tables (about 10) and I need to retrieve information based on input parameters. Each table has about 3-4 million rows.

The table has columns like Commodity, Unit, Quantity, Value, Month, Country

A typical query I use to select data is "Select top 10 commodity , sum(value), sum(quantity) , column4, column5, column6 from table where month=xx and country=xxxx"

The column4 = (column2)/(total sum of value) and column 5=(column3)/(total sum of quantity). Column6=column5/column4.

It takes about 3-4 minutes for the query to complete and its a lot of time specially since I need to pull this information from a webpage.

I wanted to know if there is an alternate way to pull the data from server ?

I mean can I write a script that creates tables for all the input combinations i.e month x country (12x228) and save them in table (subtable-table) with a naming convention so from the web I can just pull the table with input parameters mapped to name convention and not running any runtime queries on database ??

OR

Can I write a script that creates a html files for each table for all input combinations save them ?

OR

Is there exists any other solution ?

Execute Process Task How To Exit The Executable Program

Jan 21, 2008

Hello everybody,

Could anybody tell me how can I stop the executable program which I am using in Arguments field of Execute Process Task Editor window. My SSIS process based on three steps.

1. retrieve the file from FTP location
2. Process the file by using windows 32bit application
3. transfer the processed file back to FTP location

The problem occurs in step 2, it opens the win32 application for processing and it does process BUT after that it won't exit untill I close it manually, so it never reaches to step 3 if I don't close it.

Thanks in advance.
