Determine Value Based On Two Separate Date Columns

Jun 20, 2014

This is the logic I need to incorporate in to sql

if the getdate() < term start date then R
if the getdate() > term date date and getdate() < term end date then C
if the getdate() > term end date then H

I have come up with the following type of case statement that will allow me to determine the first two values (to a degree), however , I need to evaluate the end date as well.

Is there a way to look at multiple columns in a case statement?

CASE
WHEN DATEDIFF(DD,GETDATE(),TRM_BEGIN_DTE) >0 THEN 'R' else 'C' end

XML Format File For Bulk Insert Of Text File With Fixed Length Columns

Jan 2, 2008

Hey All,

Similar to a previous post (http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=244646&SiteID=1), I am trying to import data into a SQL Table.

I am trying to program a small application that will import product data obtained through suppliers via CD-ROM. One supplier in particular uses Fixed width colums, and data looks like this:

Example of Data

0124015Apple Crate 32.12

0124016Bananna Box 12.56

0124017Mango Carton 15.98

0124018Seedless Watermelon 42.98
My Table would then have:
ProductID as int
Name as text
Cost as money

How would I go about extracting the data with an XML Format file? I am stumbling over how to tell it where to start picking up data for a specific column.
Is there any way that I could trim the Name column (i.e.: "Mango Carton " --> "Mango Carton")?

I don't know if it makes any difference, but I've been calling SQL from my code by doing this:

Code in C# Form

SqlConnection SqlConnection = new SqlConnection(global::SQLClients.Properties.Settings.Default.ClientPhonebookConnectionString);
SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand();

cmd.CommandType = CommandType.Text;
cmd.CommandText = "INSERT INTO PhonebookTable(Name, PhoneNumber) VALUES('" + txtName.Text.ToString() + "', '" + txtPhoneNumber.Text.ToString() + "')";
cmd.Connection = SqlConnection;

SqlConnection.Open();
cmd.ExecuteNonQuery();
SqlConnection.Close();
RefreshData();
I am running Visual Studio C# Express 2005 and SQL Server Express 2005.

Thanks for your time,

Hayden.

Alternatively, is there any documentation about what is read with RESTORE HEADERONLY so I could write a tool myself?

Can I specify column names in DTS? It seems to always force me to name the columns Col001, Col001, etc.

The data to be extracted from SQL is:

Mxmservsite.siteid as Marker_ID, mxmservsite.name as Name, 'SITE' as Group, '3' as Status, '' as Notes, mxmservsite.zipcode as Post_Code, 'GB' as Country, '' as Latitude, '' as Longitude, '' as Delete

RS2k Issue: PDF Exporting Report With Hidden Columns, Stretches Visible Columns And Misplaces Columns On Spanned Page

Dec 13, 2007

Hello:

I am running into an issue with RS2k PDF export.

Case: Exporting Report to PDF/Printing/TIFF
Report: Contains 1 table with 19 Columns. 1 column is static, the other 18 are visible at the users descretion. Report when printed/exported to pdf spans 2 pages naturally, 16 on the first page, 3 on the second, and the column widths have been adjusted to provide a perfect page span .

User A elects to hide two of the columns, and show the rest. The report complies and the viewable version is perfect, the excel export is perfect.. the PDF export on the first page causes every fith column, starting with the last column that was hidden to be expanded to take up additional width. On the spanned page, it renders the first column on that page correctly, then there is a white space gap equal to the width of the hidden columns and then the rest of the cells show with the last column expanded to take up the same width that the original 2 columns were going to take up, plus its width.

We have tried several different settings to see if it helps this issue or makes it worse. So far cangrow/canshrink/keep together have made no impact. It is not possible to increase the page size due to limited page size selection availablility for the client. There are far too many combinations of what the user can elect to show or hide to put together different tables to show and hide on the same report to remove this effect.

Any help or suggestion on this issue would be appreciated

Only Bringing In Select Columns From A Text File

Dec 2, 2004

Hi all,

I have some bad data that i'm trying to do a workaround for. I have a comma delimited text file with a column which contains a few records that has, gasp, a comma in it. Thus creating an extra column and pushing out NULL values in an empty column that isn't recognized by my DTS package.
Can i fix this?

And if I'm correct in my assumption that I can't, how do I import only the fields preceding the bad data field? When i attempt to do that, I get the following message

'Too many columns found in the current row; non white-spaced characters found after the last defined column's data.'

Blindman, you probably know exactly what to do, huh?

Bulk Insert From Txt File Less Data Than Columns

May 23, 2007

Hi, I´m trying to bulk insert files that looks like this:

aaaa,bbb,dddd,
ccc,dfd,tghj,

each file can have up to 10 data fileds per line, and each file will have same number of data fileds in particular file, let´s say 3 like above. Second file could have let´s say 10 and that is maximum.

I read the file and insert data with fieldterminator in temp table from witch I insert data to other tables regarding some parameters inside.

Now problem is:
Msg 4832, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
Bulk load: An unexpected end of file was encountered in the data file.
Msg 7399, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
The OLE DB provider "BULK" for linked server "(null)" reported an error. The provider did not give any information about the error.
Msg 7330, Level 16, State 2, Line 1
Cannot fetch a row from OLE DB provider "BULK" for linked server "(null)".

That is because I´m trying to insert 3 fields of data in temporary table which is made of 10 columns (It have to be 10 because next file could have 10 fileds of data). If the temp table has same number of columns like text file has data fields than it works.

What is solution for this problem?
Can I bulk insert NULL in columns for which I don't have data?

I can also import each line of text file to one column (with delimiter inside) but than I don´t know how to insert that data to correct tables or even to one table but to seperate data fields to columns with fieldterminator which is , in this case.

I'm new to SQL and I would apriciate any help.
Thank you

Dynamic Columns For Flat File Destination?

Jul 10, 2006

I have a database app, and we're implementing various data export features using SSIS.

Basically, it's a couple of straight extracts of various recordsets/views, etc. to CSV (flat files) from our SQL Server 2005 database, so I'm creating an SSIS package for each of these datasets.

So far, so good, but my problem comes here: My requirements call for users to select from a list of available columns the fields that they want to include in their exported file. Then, the package should run, but only output the columns specified by the user.

Does anyone have any idea as to the best way to accomplish this? To recap, at design time, I know which columns the users will have to choose from, but at run time, they will specify the columns to export to the flat file.

Any help or guidance here is greatly appreciated

Flat File And Uneven Number Of Columns

Jan 20, 2006

Please leave feedback for Microsoft regarding this problem at https://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/feedback/ViewFeedback.aspx?FeedbackID=126493

Ok I'm sure it just me, SSIS has been great so far....but how can you import a straight CSV file with and uneven column count.

For example: (assume CR LF row delimiter)

The,Quick,Brown,Fox,Jumps
Hello,World
This,is,a,test

"Normally" I'd expect this

Col1
Col2
Col3
Col4
Col5

The
Quick
Brown
Fox
Jumps

Hello
World
NULL
NULL
NULL

This
is
a
test
NULL

Ok but what we get is the row delimiter is ignored in preference for the column delimiter and the row delimiter gets sucked into the column and the next row starts to get layed down.

So we get

Col1
Col2
Col3
Col4
Col5

The
Quick
Brown
Fox
Jumps

Hello
World{CR}{LF}This
is
a
test

I'm I not seeing a tick box somewhere that says "over here if you want to terminate a row on the row delimiter even if all columns aren't full and we'll pad NULLs in rest of the row columns which you can fix in the flow transformations"

I'm sure it's there.....help!

(By the way SSIS team, great job on the package love using it)

Not Able To Map View Columns To A Flat File Destination

Oct 16, 2007

Hi,

I have a dataflow task with two components: OLE DB source --> Flat File destination

In the OLE DB source, I am accessing a view, not a table.

However, when I attempt to map the view's input columns to the flat file destination columns, the screen is completely blank. There's none of the usual drop downs that let you select the column name, nor can I drag and drop the input column from the upper pane to the lower pane.

Is there a trick to doing this?

Order Of Columns In Flat File Destination

Oct 23, 2007

I need to create a number of flat files, all with the same layout and sourced from the the same table, but with different criteria.

The first set of (three) flat files file is created out of a simple Conditional Split transformation: If Source Table row number > 40,000 route to File 3; if row number > 20,000, route to file 2, otherwise route to file 1. This gives me 20,000 rows in files 1 & 2 and the remainder in file 3.

I also want to create a fourth flat file by joining the Source Table with a sample table and selecting only those rows where the Customer numbers match. I'm currently doing this in two stages: An Execute SQL Task performs the join and inserts the selected rows into a Destination table (identical layout to source table), and then a simple data flow moves the rows from the Destination table into the fourth flat file.

My problem is that the order of the columns in the first three flat files is different from the fourth file. I've tried creating the fourth flat file with a single data flow using a Merge Join transformation which didn't work because the tables aren't sorted in the correct sequence, and I couldn't get an OLE DB Command transformation to work either.

I'm not sure why the column order of the 4th file should be different seeing as how its contents are sourced from the same Source table, but is there a cunning way of setting this up so that the columns end up in the same order?

Flat File Connection Is Skipping Columns

Jan 25, 2007

The data file contains column names in the first row. Excel imports the file correctly. I can see the tabs in UltraEdit32. But...the flat file connection just skips over a column.
In the preview window, it appears to skip the column entirely.

However, when the data is imported, data from the non recognized column goes into a column that is mapped to receive data from another column shifting the data in to the next column.

I am using the CopyColumn and the SQL Destination controls.

Any ideas on how to make this work?

Thanks,

Bulk Insert Into Table With More Columns Than Data Within File

Jun 17, 2007

Hey all

I have a bulk insert situation that would be nice to be able to pull off. I have a flat file with 46 columns that are to go into a table. The table, I want to have a 47th column to be updated later on by means of a stored proc saying if the import into the system was sucessful or not. I have the rowterminator set as '"' thinking that would tell SQL to begin on the next row, leaving the importstatus column null but i still receive an error.

First of all, is this idea possible within this insert statement. Secondly, if so, what would be the syntax to tell the insert statement to skip that particular column. It is the last column listed in the table so it just needs to start on the next row after it inserts the last bit of data in the flatfile.

If this is not possible, is it possible to bulk insert into a temp table?

Thanks

Integration Services :: Importing A File With Dynamic Columns

Jul 16, 2015

I am new to SSIS and C#. In SQL Server 2008 I am importing data from a .csv file. Now I have the columns dynamic. They can be around 22 columns (some times more or less). I created a staging table with 25 columns and import data into it. In essence each flat file that I import has different number of columns. They are all properly formatted only. My task is to import all the rows from a .csv flat file including the headers. I want to put this in a job so I can import multiple files into the table daily.

So inside a for each loop I have a data flow task within which I have a script component. I came up(research online) with the C# code below but I get error:Index was outside the bounds of the array.I tried to find the cause using MessageBox and I found it is reading the first line and the index is going outside the bounds of the array after the first line.

Flat File Import, Ignore Missing Columns?

Oct 12, 2007

I'm new to SSIS, and trying to automate data imports from text files. The text files I'm importing always contain a fixed set of columns, or a subset of those columns. If I include a subset of columns in the import file (and exclude others), the data doesn't import...I assume because the actual file doesn't include every column defined in the flat file source object?

Is it possible to accomplish this without dynamically selecting the columns, as indicated here: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms136020.aspx
