Restore To Another Machine And UNICODE Problems

Aug 15, 2000

Our on-line database server runs SQL Server quite happily, but I have tried to Backup from that machine and Restore the data to our Intranet machine

I then ran into a UNICODE problem - the error produced is;
"The database you are attempting to restore was backed up under a different Unicode locale ID (1033) or Unicode comparison style (196609) than the Unicode locale ID (1033) or Unicode comparison style (196611) currently running on this server.
Backup or restore operation terminating abnormally."

Both servers have the same Regional settings in Control Panel, and were installed the same - why is this happening and what can I do to fix it?

I would rather not have to Import/Export the data as it crashes about 95% of the way through. Also, when the backup is Zipped it's 80% smaller.

Any help would be appreciated

Does DB-Restore On A Different Machine Omit User/login Information ?

Jul 23, 2005

Dear group,I am a DB-Administrator for a Company that creates and maintains asoftware solution based on SQL-Server and Crystal-Reports.The Crystal-Reports part uses the following method to present data.First a specific user (database authentification) is created with afixed password. Then Crystal Reports uses thisuser/password-information to login to the database and present or printthe data.I recently received a database from a customer of ours and i restoredit on my machine. It worked perfectly except that the Crystal Reportspart did not function at all (showing only blank reports).After dropping the specific user and creating the fixed password thething worked.So my question: does restoring a SQL-Server database on a differentmachine alter or eliminate login and user information ?Any reply will be highly appreciated.Greetings from ViennaUli

RESTORE Database - Database In Use, Restore Fails

Nov 19, 1999

11/19

Trying to keep out sysadmins & sa during/between database RESTORE

Configuration:
WINNT Server Enterprise 4.0 w/SP5
SQL Server 7 Enterprise & SP1

2 SQL Servers:
Production Server
Standby server

I Backup (full backup) databases to disk on primary server (logical backup devices are physicaly located on a Standby server (dedicated gigabit NIC in each server for this process). Transaction logs are applied to the Standby server throughout the day.

Problem:
How to keep out "sa" and sysadmins from a database while I'm restoring (or between restores) to a standby server?
The database being restored cannot be in use during a restore.
If a DBA forgets that this process is happening, the statement fails (RESTORE)for the database they happen to be in at the time of the restore.

Example restore statement:
Standby Server -
RESTORE DATABASE databasename FROM database_dd WITH DBO_ONLY, REPLACE, STANDBY = 'g:Mssql7FromPrimaryDatabaseName_undo.ldf'

I could restrict Domain sysadmin access and change sa password. I could also put the database in "Single user" mode, however this could become problem if my process disconnects and then someone else connects - then my process is locked out. What I'm really looking for is to lock out all activity for a database that is in "standby mode" except for RESTORE processes.

Any ideas??

Only RS On One Machine, Database On Another

May 20, 2008

Hello Everyone

I want to install only the Reporting Service (and Analyzing Service) on a machine without any database (I will create a dedicated SQL Machine later on). Now, after the installation process I can see a SQL Server in my Installed Programs View. To me this looks like a complete SQL Server installation,but this is not what I wanted (I only checked the two services during the Setup). Or are those just some supoorting components?

Thanks

Ssis Package Hangs On Script Transformation When Running On One Machine Not Developing Machine

May 4, 2007

Help!
I am using Script Transformation to output a new column as image[DT_IMAGE]
field to store serialized object. In the VB script, the sample code as

Row.serializedobject.AddBlobData ( binaryArrayReturnedFromC#dll )

The package always runs fine on my developing machine and will halt on other
machine at AddBlobData after certain number row records were processed. I am
stuck here. Anyone has any suggestion?

What I need is reading data from mutiple tables in one database and writing
into a single table in another datable. In order preserve all the columns
data, I use input column fields to construct a new object and then serialize
it, and store the serialize data into detination db table. (The object and
serialization function is coming from c# dll.)

Dim b As BusinessLicense = New BusinessLicense()
b.ApprovalDate = Row.approvaldate
b.BusinessId = Row.busid
b.BusinessName = Row.busname
b.NaicsCode = Row.naicscode
b.NaicsDescription = Row.naicsdescr
b.OwnerName = Row.ownername
b.Phone = Row.phone
b.Pkey = Row.pkey
b.RenewalDate = Row.renewaldate
b.StartDate = Row.startdate
b.Suite = Row.suite

Row.serializedobject.AddBlobData(Serializer.Serialize(b)) '''----This is blocking line
Row.infoType = BusinessLicense.TYPE

Both machine is xp with sp2. and standard SQL Server 2005 - 9.00.1399.06

Thanks!

Connection Pool Leak In Production Machine (in Other Machine It Runs Well)

Nov 16, 2006

Hi to everyone,
I'm facing a problem that drives me crazy. I've a web application that has the following problem. When I test the application on my developement machine all runs fine, but when I put into production server there is a problem in connection pooling. Look at the following image, the blue line is the number of connection in the pool and the violet line is the number of connection reclaimed. From the image it is clear that connection are returned on the pool only in block, maybe when the garbage collection pass and reclaim the object. The strange thing is that on my developement machine all is good, and also I'm using Enterprise Library and the connection are managed internally.- Thanks to everyone for any help.

Database On External Machine

May 11, 2007

Hi,
I have two servers, namely ServerA and ServerB. These two servers are on the same subnet. ServerB has a database called DatabaseB.
I'm logged in in ServerA and trying to pull data from DatabaseB.

This is the query I do when I'm logged in in ServerB (note im using Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio):

USE DatabaseB

SELECT distinct b.Subject
FROM dbo.F_Class_Exam a
LEFT OUTER JOIN dbo.D_Course_Catalog b
ON a.Course_ID = b.Course_ID
WHERE a.Term = '2071' AND a.Class_Exam_Type = 'FIN' AND b.Term = '2071'
ORDER BY b.Subject

How would I do this same query on ServerA? Ideas? Thoughts?

Thanks,
Mikhial

Copy A Database To Another Machine

May 1, 2007

Im guessing this is the right forum for this question:

I have a database on a WS2003 box running on MSDE 2000. Were trialling SQL 2005 (currently running on Win XP pro) so what i would like to do is to "copy" the database from the WS2003 box to the XP SQL box. So we can evaluate the database and see what SQL does/doesnt do.

1. How can this be done please?

2. Will it do anything to the original database?

3. Can this be scheduled to be done everyday? if yes how please?

Thank you in advance.

Help! How Do I Create An SQL Database On My Machine? + Access -&> SQL ??

Jan 19, 2004

According to my technical support for web hosting, for database format they only use "MS SQL" operating on a windows system, usualy clients create they're sites on their local machines using "MS SQL".

I'm just wondering.....

Is 'MS SQL' free? where can I get it?

I also have the option of creating the site round an access databse but I'm worried about the security issues,

do you think it would be wise to use access?

Is it easy to convert a site written in ASP.NET&ACCESS into a site using ASP.NET&"ms sql"?

because then I could code a site in the former on my machine and then change the code to link to an sql server.

Number Of Database In A Single Machine

Jul 27, 2000

I use SQL 7.0 server to build large scaled Web application.
I want to know that reasonable number of database in single machine. I know
single machine can get a 32,767 database in SQL 7.0.
We think database deploying method as following two cases.

Case 1)
We will provide multiple web application services and each service will be put into each database. Some table in a database will get about 1,000,000 records. 1,000,000 users will access each database. The number of services will be 100.

Case 2)
Or, we group 4~10 services and these group put into one database and another group of services put into another database.

What is the best database deplying method that reliable to performance and maintenance ?

Copying Database To Another Machine That Has Sql7 (HELP)

Mar 13, 2000

Sorry to break the threay i started earlier but once again I need this to work and I have spent al day on it with no luck.

SCOPE:
I need to copy my database from my sql server 7 platform to another office on
another server that also has sql 7. DTS will not work for me due to network traffic and so forth I would get messages saying that it failed. i tried it off/ peak time but still the same.
Now in the days of 6.5 I would be able to creat a new db device for LOAD then I would copy the dump over there and run LOAD database blab blah .. No brainer.

I have tried the following ideas some of you have mentioned such as back up the db (I would zip it copy it over there ) unzip it and tried to RESTORE it but I get the following: "The backup set holds a backup of a database other
than the existing 'mydb' database. Backup or restore operation terminiating abnormally."

I would also try restoring from FILE and I would get the similar message.
Sp_attach and detach no good either.

What am I missing. i would create a new 'mydb' then try the restore all of the above is all I get...

Copying Database From Server To My Local Machine.

Feb 27, 2006

First of all let me explain that I am a complete newbie to this SQL stuff. I am in the process of reading a book, and followed the books suggestions for what I want to do, but it doesn't work. I know this has been covered several times in this forum, but no one post in particular covered exactly what I want to do.

I want to copy the database from the server to my local machine.

First, do I need to have SQL running on my machine in order to copy the database? I do have Enterprise Manager running, does that mean SQL Server is running locally?

Secoond, I tried using the Copy Wizard, but when I get to the target list, my local machine is not listed. How do I get it listed so I can copy the database?

I hope my questions are not too stupid... but then I'd be stupid if I didn't ask questions.

Thanks in advance for your help...
David

Database On Server But SQLEXPRESS On Local Machine

But for the night-backup of the database I want to put the database on the company server.

Let's say the database is on: X:datamydatabase.mdf

Why cant't I attach this database with the manager of sqlexpress

Second:

I have installed on local machine sqlexpress AND also the database

Why can't I backup the file to the server like:

BACKUP DATABASE [mydatabase] to DISK=x:datamydatabase.bak WITH FORMAT

It looks I can only backup to the localmachine.

thanks a lot
