how do you write a query to retrieve an attribute value from xml?

I want to get back a table of all products. Example
Report product="DetailPPC">
want to return DetailPPC the xml may contain multiple reports I want a table with all the report products:
SELECT PassportResponse.Reports.query('.') as result FROM
@xml.nodes('/PassportResponse/Reports') PassportResponse(reports)
the sql will return the reports but I want to get what the product = only.. I'm hoping to do this without a substring function.
any help would be appreciated.

Hello everyone,
I have an xml file that looks like this:

What i need is to find a way to retrieve the value of the attribute belonging to the root element (value of @Date) in SSIS.
Tried it using Xpath but don't know how i should configure the xml task editor or if maybe there's any other way to perform such a task.

Hi GuysOff late, I've grown with programming that requires more than a number of tables that has foreign keys with other tables' primary keys. It takes a really cumbersome coding to retrieve the code from another table with the other table having foreign keys. My question is, how do we program VS 2005 such that it does all the retrieval of the data from the database instead of us writing the code all by ourself?Is it really good database technique to bend the normalcy rules and have one to two columns having redundant data?Can anyone tell me how to write code that retrieves the foreign key data when the data from the other table is called?Thanks

I want to insert attibute att1 in field F1 . Value for this attribute is content of another field in this table (F2).
My query :

But I get this error :
XML well-formedness check: Duplicate attribute 'att1'. Rewrite your XQuery so it returns well-formed XML.
How do I check the douplicate attribute ?

HI,
I had to change the key columns of a dimension attribute to fix an error. I did this in BIDS. The change was from a single key column to a composite key column. Now I am getting these error when I process the cube:
Measure group attribute key column x does not match source attribute ..
I looked at the cube XMLA definition under mesaure groups and it still shows a single key column with inherited binding. However, the BIDS does not give me an option correct this in any way. I have had to do this once before and the only option seems to be removing the dimension from the cube and add it back in. But that is very error prone since I lose any specific settings at the cube dimension level not to mention aggregations no longer include the dimension, etc.
Not seeing an alternative, I went through each measure group (I have 7) and changed the key columns manually in the XMLA and saved the cube. This worked, but I don't understand why BIDS automatically doesn't do it.
Is this a flaw in the BIDS or I should be missing something.

In my reports I want Date attribute to be added only in the data set and not in the query builder, As if I am adding it in the query builder report is taking very long time to generate and I am getting around 7000 pages of data which is absurd.So, if I can add it only in the data set then I can use filters for my reports and get only the required data. So, is there any way where in which I can add the Date attribute only in the dataset and not in the query builder????

I am in the process of develping a MSRS report using an MSAS 2005 OLAP cube as my data source. In the MSRS Query Builder, I am using an MDX query which successfully executes in Management Studio. Something like the following:

The twist is that the AttributeHierarchyVisible property of the [Dim Attribute].[Hierarchy Not Visible] is set to False.
As mentioned previously, the query successfully executes in Management Studio. However when it is executed in the MSRS Query Builder, the following error message is displayed:
The query cannot be prepared: The query must have at least one axis. The first axis of the query should not have multiple hierarchies, nor should it reference any dimension other than the Measures dimension..
Parameter name: mdx (MDXQueryGenerator)
Is there a way to successfully query dimension attributes whose hierarchies are not visible?

I have spent days searching the web and forums for an answer to this simple question and cannot find an example.
I have built a service broker application on sql server 2005. The application puts some xml on an incoming queue which is basically a few parameters to be used in a query. This queue will then call a stored proc which does some business logic and puts the resulting results in another queue also in xml.
I have written a test harness in SQL to put messages on the inbound queue and then some sql to retrieve the returned code from the outbound queue.
What I want to do is be able to convert the SQL which does this into .net code to be used by an application. i.e. write in .net some code to put xml on a queue and then write some .net code to retrieve xml from another queue.
I wouldn't have thought this would be a difficult thing to do and would have been done hundreds of times, but unable to find anything to simply send and retrieve XML to service broker queues....
thanks for your help.. its really needed. I found some links, but they are really vague and often doing select statments in service broker or something like this. I don't want to call any sql, just send and recieve XML on the queues.
any example code that does this, would be really helpfull

I would like to use a dynamic query to obtain a value...a recordcount specifically.
I have two options so far. The 2nd option works fine, but seems like it would be slower. The first option doesn't recognize that i have declared my variable (@int). Any ideas how i would use the first method...or if it's worth trying?
Method 1
--# produces error: Must declare the variable '@int'.

I have two table named tbl_Scale and tbl_NGTrDAMaster
tbl_Scale(ScaleID,ScaleName,ScaleLB,ScaleUB,ScaleSI1,ScaleSI2,ScaleSI3) here scale id is prim key
tbl_NGTrDAMaster(TrDaId,ScaleID,CityTypeID,DAAmount) no prim key
and we get CityTypeID from xml databinder.......
In my form thr is two drop down list one for scale name and another for city type id
this is the data form tbl_NGTrDAMaster

ok i have table1, table 2 and table 3.
these table have some common feild names. table1,2 and 3 all have a,b,c and d as field names. each table has other field names too but the ones they all have in common are a,b,c and d.
so i would like to write a query that returns all rows from all 3 tables where column d is greater than 5 and less than 10.
so basically i want it to treat the records from all 3 tables ad one big dataset.
how would i write a query to do this.
i know i could say:
SELECT a,b,c,d
FROM table1,table2,table3
but what gets me is the WHERE clause
do i have to say WHERE table1.d >5 AND table1.d <10 OR table2.d>5 AND table2.d <10 OR table3.d>5 AND table3.d <10
??
any guidance please?

I have a table with many records in it. There is one field called "Nature". How would I select the value that appears the most often in the "Nature" field? The nature field contains text.
For example, this code selects those with more than 10 records...
I just want the top record.
SELECT count(*) FROM WEBASGN_FULL GROUP BY NATURE HAVING count(*) > 10
Basically select nature from webasgn_full that occurs the most often in the table....

I need help on writing a query which will return my results as I need them.
I have three tbls.
TimeType, TimePlan and TimeSpent
TimeType simply lists the Individual Jobs (types) a user can be doing.
The TimePlan and Time Spent each list individual records with start and end dates and what TimeType was being performed.
Each TimeType can have multiple starting and ending dates for the TimePlan and Timespent.
I need my results to show individual timetypes, with the starting and end dates for the Timeplans and also the TimeSpent
EG:
TypeType | TimeplanStart | TimeplanEnd | TimeSpentStart | TimeSpentEnd
Writing | 01/02/2007 | 02/02/2007 | |
Writing | | 03/02/2007 |
So there will be multiple Types, and for each one I need to show the start and end dates.
I would normally write this as three seperate queries.
The first would get the TimeTypes,
The second the TimePlan starting and ending dates for that type,
The third , the Spent starting and ending dates for that type
However that doesn't come across as very efficient so I wonder if there was any other alternative

Hi !
There is one table tCustomers. It has following columns: ID, Name, Code...
By the mistake in this table has appeared incorrect records (duplicates).
How can I write the query to find them ?
I tried:
Select c.ID ID1,s.ID ID2, c.NAME NAME1,s.NAME NAME2, c.Code C1, s.Code C2, From tCustomers c, tCustomers s
where c.Code=s.Code and c.ID <> s.ID
But the result is not that I expected
