I'm a web programmer by profession, and most ofmy tools are Linux-based, but because I do so much indepth work in MSSQL and DTS's, I've been dual-booting between Windows and Linux mainlybecause there's no way I know of to access my MS SQL DTS's from Linux.Any Linux solutions out there that will read and maybe even edit SQLDTS's?Thanks,Alex.

Hello all,We need to access MS SQL 2000 database from RHEL platforms. I'vetested unixODBC and Easysoft ODBC-ODBC Bridge (under trial license). They work together pretty well. Unfortunately Easysoft ODBC-ODBCBridge is not a free solution. Anybody have any experiences with otherODBC solutions that can make MS SQL accessible to unix? I've heard ofiodbc but without any hands-on details. Thanks in advance for sharing your experience.Bing

Replication Error With Sqlserver Mobile:A Request To Send Data To The Computer Running IIS Is Failed, See Hrresult

Jan 27, 2006

I have smilar kind of an issue with replication. I had sucessfully done replication with Sqlce2.0 on sql server 2000. In development machine I had VS 2003, sqlce development tools.

Now I use the same code done in VS 2003 into VS2005, it sucessfully converted the code.

In server machine (win 2003) I installed sql server 2000, sql server 2000 service pack 4, SP4 merge replication components, sql server 2005 mobile server tools and .Net framework 2.0. Created pubication sucessfuly. In this machine I configured IIS as per the web synchronization wizard. Gave anyonymous permissions. Virual direcory is created sucessfully. I tested the server agent in IE http://myservername/aliasname/sqlcesa30.dll.

SQL Server Mobile Server Agent 3.0 is shown

My application opened successfuly in windows mobile 5.0 Pocket PC emulator. When try to sync its dislays error "A request to send data to the computer running IIS is failed, see Hrresult"

No firewall in both development and server machines.

The same code works if its sqlce20 perfectly with vs2003 code. Not in this

ODBC On Remote Computer Won't Access

Aug 24, 2006

I'm attempting to connect to an SQL Server Express database from a remote PC, but it isn't connecting. I have a user account created in the database, and I'm using the SQL authentication with that user account. I have success with this if I'm on the server that the database is on, but not remotely. Both are on the same network, even plugged into the same hub. There doesn't appear to be any network problems.

Any ideas? Thanks!

Restricting Computer Administrator Access To Named SQL Instance

Jan 18, 2008

This is a slight re-stating from an older thread, which I think warrants some new discussion. The answer has always been that system administrators should have full access to everything on a system, including databases.

Although that is a logical position for internal IT departments it doesn't quite fit the model of systems with outsourced or external system support.

"If you don't trust your DBA, then you need a new DBA. They are in a position of authority for a reason and restricting that authority makes it impossible for them to do the job they are hired to do."

What about scenarios where you have local machine administrators that should NOT be given access to private data in a secured database, even though they need to be able to access and maintain everything else? And unfortunately some regulations are written about access to stored data whether encrypted or not...

In the modern world of Sarbanes-Oxley and PCI-DSS/CISP it is no longer so cut and dried. Especially where companies have software/hardware support contracts with third parties that require administrative access to other aspects of the systems.

So accepting that you might need someone to have administrative level access to the box but they should not be able to view the contents of a database installed on that box, what would you do?

Is there a way to create an adminstrative group that does not allow access to a specific named instance of SQL?

Is there a way to revoke access for one member of the administrators group only?

Thanks,
Ted

XP Home -LAN Remote Access - Unable To Connect From One Single Computer.

Jan 5, 2007

Hi,

I have Windows XP Home Workgroup LAN.

I am treating one of the XP Home system as 'Server' and installed SQL Express 2005 SP1. Enabled remote connections access.

I have total 4 XP Home systems, out of which one i am treating as Server, from the rest 3 computers, 2 are successfully connected to the Server and able to access SQL Express without any problems. But the 3rd system is unable to communicate with the Server. I disabled all firewalls in this 3rd system but still unable to connect to the server. I am able to ping the server, browse for shared folders on the server. Except SQL Express remote connection, everything else in the network is accessible from this 3rd computer.

Can anyone help me on how to troubleshoot this 3rd computer sql express connection problem to the server.

I don't have any error message to provide here. It just says, unable to connect to sql server, verify username/password etc.

Is there any limitation on SQL Express remote connections ?

Also, if “Due Date” is less than or equal to system date by 30 days, put “Yes” in “30 Days Overdue” and same for the 60 and 90 days.how to write this Case Statement? I have some answers how to do it in SSRS (Report Designer) but I want to get the results using T-SQl.

eg in the loop below I want to create 10 new variables, called @var0,@var1,@var2 ...@var9

declare @varname nvarchar(10)
declare @i integer

select @i=0

while @i<10

set @varname = cast(('@var'+cast(@i as char)) as nvarchar(10))
set @i=@i+1
end

Does anyone know of a way to do this?

Access To SQLServer

Aug 23, 2006

Hi all,

I have to transfer an Access Database to SQLserver. There're hundred of tables in the original DB which use True, False value. Those will be translated to -1, 0 in SQLserver. I need them to be 0 , 1 instead (-1=>1).

Is there a way to tell SQLServer to process this modification during the transfer or is there a store procedure which can go through all tables and modify those values ?

Any help will be appreciate..

Thank you all

Cannot Edit SQLServer Using MS ACCESS

Mar 31, 1999

We are using MS Access as a front end to a SQL Server 6.5
Database using ODBC & linking tables in Access.

We are unable to edit certain records using access. We
get the following error message:

"This record has been changed by another user since you started
editing it. If you save the record, you will overwrite the changes
the other user made.

Copying the changes to the clipboard will let you look at the values
the other user entered, and then paste your changes back in if you
decide to make changes."

What the message says is untrue in our case. Worse, there is
no way to recover and have the desired change posted. This error
occurs only with certain records. This error occurs when there are
no locks active (and only 1 client logged in).

I am inclined to think that this error may be the fault of ODBC.

Updating the same change directly into ISQL works fine. SQL Server Permissions
have beeen checked & double checked.

If you have suggestions as to how this error can be rectified, please contact
me:

How Do I Setup SQLServer For External Access?

Nov 22, 2007

Hello

Normally we installs our SQLServers for internal use, but now we've a data supplier which we're going to expose a SQLServer at.

The datasupplier should be able to log on the SQLServer, so I've done the following.

Created an IP-adress from the outside to point at our server

Opened port 1438 in the firewall

Installed SQLServer 2000 Developer Edition as an instance (ie. ServerAINST001)

Opened SQL Server Network utility, selected the correct instance and TCP/IP and altered the default port to 1438

And tried to connect, but with no luck. Can anybody guide me in the right direction?

Kind regards
Janus

Remote Access To SQLServer 2005

Oct 16, 2007

Hi,

I installed SQLServer with a instance using the following cmd:

/qn INSTANCENAME=MYINSTANCE ADDLOCAL=All SQLCOLLATION=Latin1_General_CI_AI=Latin1_General_CI_AI PIDKEY=ABCDE12345FGHIJ67890KLMNO SECURITYMODE=SQL SAPWD=Pass SQLAUTOSTART=1 ENABLENETWORKPROTOCOLS=0

When I try to connect to the server using VS2005 (VB) using the code:

Dim instance As System.Data.Sql.SqlDataSourceEnumerator = System.Data.Sql.SqlDataSourceEnumerator.Instance
Dim table As System.Data.DataTable = instance.GetDataSources()

For Each DRrow As DataRow In table.Rows 'DRrows
C1List1.AddItem(DRrow(0).ToString & ";" & DRrow(1).ToString & ";" & DRrow(3).ToString)
Next

I can see the Server Name, but not the Instance Name.

I've already checked the SQL Configurantion Manager, and I've allowed this instance to accept remote connections (created by the cmd install command).

NOTE: I'm testing the connection on a Domain, but only using the SA account (SQLmode).

Can somebody help me?
Thanks.

PS: I also created an Firewall exception in Windows on the port 1433.

Can't Access SQLServer In Single User Mode

Feb 14, 2008

Hello:

Having an extremely frustrating issue trying to connect to SQL once I've done the NET START MSSQL$SQL_DEV /c /m /T3608.
Briefly: SQL 2K and 2K5 named instances running on same DEV box. Can't open admin:<serverinstance> in SSMS, I get the following error:

"Login failed for user 'sa'. Reason: Server is in single user mode. Only one administrator can connect at this time. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 18461)

This happens regardless of credentials supplied (my AD acct (local admin on box), AD acct running SQL services or sa). Object Explorer is closed, remote connections disabled in SS Surface Area Config. I open SSMS and make no attempt to connect to server. Choose File >New > Query with Current Connection. In dialogue box, I attemp to utilize DAC and get the above error.
In DOS prompt where I issued the single user mode startup cmd, try to use sqlcmd to grab DAC session and receive the following error:

SQL Network Interfaces: An error occurred while obtaining the dedicated administrator connection (DAC) port. Make sure that SQL Browser is running, or check the error log for the port number [xFFFFFFFF]. Sqlcmd: Error: Microsoft SQL Native Client : An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections..

So, no matter what method I use, I've managed to disable ALL access to the instance, despite the tips I've seen here and on Google.
I need to move the system databases to new disk volume, but cannot do so until I can open a connection to the instance once I've put it in single user mode. Looking in the SQL Srvr log following startup in single user mode I see the following:

Message
Server is listening on [ 'any' <ipv4> 3560].
Message
Dedicated admin connection support was established for listening remotely on port 3560.

Do I need to call the port# specifically when using SSMS or sqlcmd?
I can include screenshots of the failures and mssgs if necessary.

More disturbing is in a DR situation, I CAN'T OPEN A SESSION TO THE INSTANCE, which would be a very bad thing...

Please Help!
