Column Header Duplicated -- Matrix Report
Apr 1, 2008I've a matrix report with two row groups. One of the row groups has been used to do alternate coloring in report rows. The issue is that the header text that I've provided for the row group repeats twice. Another interesting point to note here would be this doesn't happen in the report preview but only when the report is displayed through a report viewer in an ASP.Net application. I can guess that it must have got something to do with the invisible row group but can't get my head around on how to avoid it?
The report currently looks something like below:

Month Total Ave % Total Ave %

I'd need to add the manufacturing date of the item to the report. For this I need an extra column next to the row header column (in red) and also a field header (in purple).
Measurement M1 Measurement M2 etc....
Art. Date Unit U1 Unit U2 Unit U1 Unit U2 etc...

I've tried copying and pasting the first column of the matrix, inserting columns or rows, but I allways end up with an extra grouping level, which I don't want.
The date is the manufacturing date of the item, so it is an attribute of the item, not a separate level of detail.
Anyone knows how to add this extra column to the row header ?
Also, how do I add a column header like "Art." or "Date" in the example above ? I was thinking of placing a text box above the first cell of the matrix, as a kludge.

I'm having a strange problem with a matrix headers.
I can't put column headers above each row group header. There is a
merged cell above them, which can't be split. If I have several row groups,
including Customer ID and Zipcode, I can't put headers above them to
identify them in the matrix. Since both have 5 numerals, they can be
confused.
Does any body know how to solve this?

I addressed this situation in another thread, but since the thread had not been updated for some time I felt a new thread may have been warranted to included uptodate information and requests for further updates.
I will refresh the topic's primary issue:
When using a matrix, a developer wanted to provide column headers atop the columns to help users distinquish between multiple columns of the same relative data type(columns of digits, etc.)
The space in the upper left corner of the matrix will create a void that cannot be broken down or divided so that a column header label can be applied. It's either one label for the whole void or nothing at all.

A poster suggested placing a rectangle inside the voided area above.

The problem is that when the report is run and rendered the rectangle txboxes are no longer aligned at the bottom. Even though the text within the textboxes is set to the bottom.
Instead the rendered version appears like this.

Thus rather than having the labels inside the rectangle textboxes aligned at the bottom so that they appear more in-line with their assigned columns, they are automatically top-justified and this makes the labels look awkward.
So does anyone have any suggestions on how I can get the rectangle textboxes to be aligned adjacent to the tops of the row columns so that their labels appear in-line with their appropriate columns?

Is there a way to dynamically make report header and footer fields change location (or size)? I have many matrix reports that grow in width and then the header and footers do not look good.
Another example is I have a line that is in the header...I would like this to grow to the width of the report, which again is not static on a matrix report.

should prevent an error and I expect it to show 'nothing'

Jan 18, 2001My boss wants to know why I can sort information in the Enterprise Manager by clicking the column headings but he can't; like in the Job window clicking status to sort the jobs by status so all of the 'executing' jobs are listed first. I said no problem, let's apply SP2 and that should do the trick. To my chagrin it did not solve the problem. I would appreciate any ideas.

Placing A Sum In A Table Header Column
Jan 30, 2007I have been requested to add the sum of an interger field to the table header. I have the sum in the footer (which is very easy to do), but I cannot get the sum to appear in the table header.
I then set-up the stored procedure to run the sum, and place it into a dummy field. I still cannot add this field to the table header. Instead of printing the data for the dummy field (the correct total), it instead prints the actual field name on the report.
Is there anyway to place a sum in a table header on a SQL Server Report?

How can I alter the visibility of the group headers when they don't have access into the scope of the groups themselves ? At startup, I only want to show group1's header. If I expand an item in group 1, then I only want to show headers for group 1 and 2, etc ...

Multi-column Report Page Header
Aug 2, 2007I have a multi-column report with a page header that spans the width of the report. Whenever I close the report and reopen it, the header is changed to the width of the column. This isn't a real big deal because I deploy it with the header across the whole page; but once in a blue moon I accidentally hit the F5 key (which I am used to using for refresh in other environments I work in) and the report gets redeployed with the messed up header. Is there anyway to stop RS from automatically adjusting the page header?
And is there anyway to disable the F5 key from deploying the reports. I do use it to build and run windows apps, and don't want to change that, but I don't want to deploy 80+ reports when I accidentially hit it.

Where property value is some arbitrary detail. The real propertyType has 50 or 60 rows and not every property has all of the values. I am trying to create a pivot table that would look like so that I can present the data in an easier to understand format:

The propertyTypes are added often, and I don't really have the ability to change them. There is a unique constrant on property on nameid and typeid so there will never be two of the same property with the same owner. Any help would be very helpful.
Dynamic Header Column Names In Excel

I am running into an issue while trying to export data to a spreadsheet. I actually don't know how to do it... Considering I only know the column names by the time I execute my procedure, I can't use the Excel Destination to export data.
With DTSs I would create an ActiveX script to execute the procedure which loads the results into a temp table. After that I would select everything from this temp table and load the results into a record set, looping through this record set to create the destination spreadsheet with the dynamic column names.
When it comes to SSIS we are advised to write vb.net scripts instead of ActiveX... These ones do not have records set's but dataset's, which at first glance are only applicable to xml and not xls files (when I try to define a variable as a dataset in my vb.net code, I face a message saying: Missing reference required to assembly System.Xml...).
How I would create this spreadsheet using a vb.net code in SSIS packages? Please, help...

Dec 20, 2007While trying to set up an unpivot transformation to load data from excel (2003) into sql server db, the dates as column headers get lost in the translation.
To simplify the problem I created a very simple package with an excel source and an excel destination.
The test Excel Source looks like

After running the package The destination looks like this:

I need to keep the dates since I am loading a large volume of data often.

If the Shift column is hidden, i want to move the equipment columns over so there is no gap in the columns.I know you can do this in a table by hidding the whole column, but how do you do this in a matrix? when i try to hide the column the visibility option is not there, and when i hide the field, it leaves a gap in the report.Thanks for your help.
