im working on a report which shows the data based on the users input. I have used a matrix because I have no control on how many fields the users want, so practically we have a dynamic column here. My problem is that they require me to able the user to hide the columns he/she wishes to during runtime. We have a previous report that enables the user to hide it during runtime but it has static column. Any idea on how I could do it?... Thank you so much...

Hi -- I am fairly new to SSIS development, although I am starting to appreciate it more an more, especially since I have started getting into extending the object model. Here's my question:
I have a data flow that pulls data from any number of different delimited files with different numbers of columns. I have had no problem dealing with setting up run-time file locations and file names by using the expressions of a flat file data source, and i have been able to pretty easily deal with varying file delimiters by standardizing the files before they get into the data flow. however, I have not been able to come up with a solution that will allow my data source to discover its column info at run time, and then pass that information on to the data flow task. all i really care about is being able to properly parse the individual rows into individual column data by the flat file data source because the data flow itself is able to discover the actual data that the columns hold at run-time.
i would very much appreciate any feedback from anyone on possible solutions for this.
thanks!

I am trying to find a way to provide three metrics for a table that only provides 2 of them. I need to derive a third column which tallies based on conditions that can be found in the dataset.
The table I'm querying shows
(1) total referrals
(2) total moves
but it is missing a column that tallies whenever the referral moved into the same property_id that it was referred to.
create table dimFacts
(date_value datetime
, month_name varchar(9)
, year_number varchar(4)
, month_number tinyint
[Code] ....
How can I use sql to create one additional column for the above data set, ie. let's call it 'property_conversion' such that on the fifth row there will be a '1' showing that on 2012-12-30 lead_id 10038655 moved into the property it was referred to back on 2012-10-15 ?

Hello,
Im doing research for my company for a project we are about to start, but the more I find, the more Im confusing myself. Maybe someone would be so nice to help me a little.
We need a database solution, either licensing (ISV) or i think maybe an embedded database. if its licensing, its not a problem, but after research, im thinking licensing would be a waste of time or too much and theire not enough information to go by just that.
Problem: Need to develop software for a client where there will be around 300 users using the system (not all at once neccisarrily). We are creating this software for them and they want to re-sell it after completion, but they do not want to make their customers purchase a database for the purchase of their software. (because of all types of licensing). We need the database RUNTIME to run on the customers machine to make the software work.
Is there a RUNTIME license for Independant-Software-Vendor(IVS) for redistribution? or would it make sense to embed a database ( for example, the free edition of sql server;embeeded feature :), or maybe firebird embedded database?) We are developing in Visual Studio 2005.
This might sound confusing, thats where im at. For those of you with more experience, hopefully you understand what im talking about.
Thank you. I have 2 days to find a solution. Ill continue looking and post in thread if i find anything new or clearify my problem.

Hi All,
I have a c# project with an sql express database which is bound to a datagridview via a dataset.
I would like to allow the users to import data into the database from a text file.
How does one go about adding rows and filling in the column data programatically? Do I add the to datagridview? the database? the bindingsource?
Thank you,

In both VB6 and VB2005 Both are loaded on same computer. When attempting to write to an access database table using ADO I get a runtime error: -2147217887(80040e21) "mutiple-step operation generates errors. Check each status value. " Reading the database is no problem. I only get the errors when writting to database. I have used the following code forever in VB6 and never got this error. Now that I have Visual Studio 2005 loaded on the same machine. I get this error. I get the exact same error when using this code in VB2005. I know VB6 but am just learning 2005. The following code is writting to a database table from various user imputed text and combo boxes. I used basicly the same code in VB2005 and get the same exception error. This code works on machines that do not have VB .net loaded. How do I fix this. My application is useless unless the user can make changes to their data.

Hi,
I am having a Data flow task in For each loop which will gets 100 sourcetable names and 100 target table names...
am having a simpleData flow task which trasferes from OLEDBSource to OLEDBDestination.
I am repeating the Dataflow task which transfers from sourcetablename extracted from for loop to a destination table var.
The problem am gettting is for the first table it is able to transfer correcly because I did mapping for those tables at design time...but for the next coming sourcetable-desttable (which r having different no of cols, datatypes) its giving Validation failed...and...needs to refresh metadata....
is there any way to refresh the metadata of Data flow task (I set the property of OLEDBSource validate external meta to false then also same error is coming)
Thanks

To do this successfully do I need to backup the Service master, Database master, and database itself from the the Source server, then restore all three of them on the destination server?
(I'm concerned that restoring the source Service Master key to a new target server with an existing sql 2005 install will screw things up big time.)
TIA,

Hi to all,
As I am going to deal with a huge number of database tables, I thought that drawing their diagrams will be the most professional way of keeping track of what I am doing. So In Enterprise Manager using the Wizard I made it to be drawn nicely.
But I have a problem now. I see that the relations defined among the tables are represented correctly but the line connecting the two table is drawn randomly. I mean the starting point of the line doesnt start from the column having the primary key and doesnt end near to the column having the foreign key. Viewing my diagram I want to see the lines to start and end showing the 2 related key columns.
Is there a way to accomplish this like setting an option, clicking somewhere or should I try to drag the lines to manually?
Thanks in advance

Hello. I am trying to write a VB.net application to call our SSIS packages. I have seen several tutorials, including this one:
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms190901.aspx
Which calls for me to import:
Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime
However, I don't have this DST Runtime DLL installed on my machine. I have installed "everything" in SQL Server Developer Edition and Visual Studio. Any idea how I can get this?
Thanks,

I just ran a testbed of 4 types of SQL queries:1. inline SQL with a StringBuilder2. managed sql3. SQL text processing (@SQL as varchar(5000); SET @SQL = 'SELECT ' + @var...)4. a regular sproc that has the columns and table name hard coded1,2, and 4 always end up at about the same time given the averages.3 is always at last 1.5 times slower, and usually closed to 2 times.1 and 2 both use StringBuilders, the code is a direct copy, and 3 is a copy as well.My managed SQL is: [Microsoft.SqlServer.Server.SqlProcedure] public static void usp_Items_Select_Managed(SqlString table, SqlString name, SqlString value) { // sql StringBuilder stringBuilder = new StringBuilder(); stringBuilder.AppendFormat( "SELECT {0}.* FROM {0} WHERE {0}.{1} = {2}", table, col, value ); SqlConnection sqlConnection = new SqlConnection("context connection=true"); SqlCommand sqlCommand = new SqlCommand(stringBuilder.ToString(), sqlConnection); sqlConnection.Open(); SqlContext.Pipe.Send(sqlCommand.ExecuteReader()); sqlConnection.Close(); }Is there anything wrong with my Managed SQL, or is this just the way that it is?Thanks

I'm running a package on SQL Server 7, SP2 created in the same environment.
When running a package from DTS Designer, I get an execution status of "Error Occurred" in the Package Execution Status dialog on one of the data pump tasks I'm running along with the number of rows inserted. When I double-click on the task, I get the following message: " The Connection is currently being used by a task. The connection cannot be closed or reused".
Both the exception log for the task and the package, specified for error output, indicate the task ran successfully and the clients confirm that the appropriate number of rows have been inserted in the table. Has anyone encountered this error that can explain the cause/cure?

Hi Everyone,
I've an DTS package, which has an Execute SQL Task. I'm doing the operations based on a parameter. I need to pass that in runtime. Is there any way to do that in Execute SQL Task? BOL says that the runtime parameter can be set by giving a question mark(?). But when I tried this, it says, value not passed.
Thanks in advance.

Hi.
I posted similar stuff in one of my previous topic. what i need to do is parse database name runtime
means sample example is
USE <%1>
GO
SELECT * FROM Table_Name
here instead of <%1> i need to pass Test DB name
USE Test
GO
SELECT * FROM Table_Name
my .sql file contains <%1> so i need to replace it
i tried like
declare @t varchar(50)
declare @chg22 varchar(500)
set @t = 'Test'
set @chg22 = 'USE <%1> GO'
set @chg22 = REPLACE(@chg22,'<%1>',@t)
exec(@chg22)
SELECT * FROM Table_Name
but i am not getting it..in above example i am just took one line select * from table_name but actually in .sql file more that 300 lines are there so i m not able to concatenate it..

We run a regular query through Excel that is linked to a Microsoft SQL Server data source.
We have run this query routinely for the past few years. Suddenly this query has started returning an error message - “[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver] [SQL Server] Difference of two datetime columns caused overflow at runtime. It seems to be a common error (as per Google search) however I don’t want to go messing around with something I don’t fully understand. Can anyone point me in the direction of what to look out for?

Hi,
Currently im using SQL queries in combination with ASP.NET..
I have currently only one table('Requests'), which has all the user info of name,id,studyrequested etc.. A person can request for any number of studies.
Now the prob is that from now on whenever a user requests for a new study not only should his details be stored in the Request table but also in a new Users table. In the Users table that particular users details must only be loaded once.. i.e. if the same user enrolls for another study his details should only be updated in the requests table and not in the Users table, since his details have already been loaded once in the Users Table..
While this works fine for new users, but what bout the old users already stored in the Requests table before the Users table existed.
Is there any way i could run a sql script only once at runtime, so that all the old legacy users are loaded once in to the Users Table.
Thanks,
Nitin

I want to combine a bunch of reports (which are stand alone reports on there own) as subreports in a parent or master report. We have done this in Crystal Reprots in order to get a group of reports out in one file.
The issue with Reporting Services is the header and footers of the subreports are not rendered, so I have to repeat the logo information for each subreport in the body of the parent report. I can do this in a table or list or rectangle, but I have to do this for each subreport. Is there any way that I can specify the name of the subreport at runtime? That way I can put everything into a List and drive it from the database. I noticed that the dropdown to select the report name does not allow you to create an expression for this field.
