Data Cleaning

Mar 7, 2005

Hey gang, I have 2 100,000 record tables, with a ID & address field. (I've exclude all the other field for now) I need to make sure the ID field in table A is equal to table B and that the address in table A is equal to table B. If the Id's or address do not match create a separate table. Any good ideas

Cleaning Data In SSIS Using Lookups.

Dec 19, 2007

All
I am in trying to clean and standardize the data during the ETL processes using the €śLookup Data Flow Transformation€? in SSIS€¦
I am able to clean data by replacing the values in columns with values from a reference table, using an exact lookup to locate values in a reference table.
What I would like to do is €śif there is NO exact match€? replace it by e.g. zero or some other value which means €śno reference data available€?, how do I do this?
Any help is much appreciated.

Cleaning Up Data Files When Removing Instance (integr. Inst.)

Jun 13, 2007

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to integrate SQLEXPRESS in a custom application ("the app"). On installation, a new instance ("myNewInstance") is created, and a new DB ("myDB") is created on that instance.

Upon de-installation of "the app", I remove the new instance. To that end, I'm calling the SQLEXPRESS setup like this:

Code Snippet

setup.exe /qb REMOVE=SQL_Engine INSTANCENAME=myNewInstance
The Problem: While the service and the instance are removed, the instance's data directory is not, and the DB Datafiles are still there. Now if I reinstall the app (re-creating myNewInstance), it uses the same directory structure, and when I try to re-create the DB, I get the following error message:

Code Snippet

Msg 5170, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
Cannot create file '[...]MSSQL.2MSSQLDATAmyDB.mdf' because it already exists. Change the file path or the file name, and retry the operation.
So here's the Question: is there
a) any way to tell setup.exe to completely remove the datafiles when uninstalling the instance, or
b) any way to tell TSQL to overwrite the old datafiles if they exist?

Thanks in advance,
Thorsten

Can We Automate The Data Mining Models Management?

Jun 12, 2006

Hi, all here,

I am having a question about automating data mining models managements. As we know in many businesses, patterns vary very frequently, therefore, the mining models created will need to be created again afterwards according to new rules appearing in the data. But can we make all these process automated like automatically assessing the mining model accuracy and automatically recreate the mining models based on predifined specifications? Would please any one here give me any idea about that?

Thanks a lot for any guidance and help for that.

With best regards,

Integration Services :: Automate Process Using SSIS To Create Tables In Corresponding Database And Load Data

Oct 6, 2015

We are using SQL Server 2014 and SSDT-BI 2013. We have a reporting environment where business users create objects which need to be persisted for fiscal year reporting. Let's say for instance SQLSERVER1SRVR1 they create table objects like below in the reporting environment.

Accounting2014, Accounting2015 in AccountingDB;
Sales2014, Sales2015 in SalesDB;
Products2014, Products2015 in ProductsDB;
Inventory2014, Inventory2015 in InventoryDB etc....

These tables are persisted for auditing in a different environment SQLSERVER2SRVR2 for finance & audit folks. We would want to automate this process using SSIS to create tables in corresponding database and load data. I tried using For Each Loop container but the catch is I could loop the source or destination but how do we loop on Source & Destination at the same time (i.e when source is in AccountingDB destination to be AccountingDB, source SalesDB then destination SalesDB so on etc....

Unable To Copy App_data Folder Databases On Production Server To A Different Folder Or Location

Sep 19, 2007

I dont alot about sql server 2005(Express edition). For debugging purposes i want to copy  the whole app_data folder(.mdf & .log files) on the production server to another folder on the same machine(or sometimes to a network folder).  So when i copy and try to paste this App_data folder to a new location, i get this error message
"cannot copy ASPNETDB: it is being used by another person or program. close any programs that might be using the file and try again."
After reading the above message, i close visual web developer, stop the website in IIS and stop the SQLExpress service on the server and try again but still get the same message.
So how can i make sure that all the programs accessing these database files are closed such that i'm able able to copy them to a different location.

SSIS Or SQl Agent Job Moving From A Network Folder To A Sharepoint Folder - Errors...

Oct 31, 2007

Ok,

I have a network folder called A

I have a SharePoint (2007) Document Library site called B. Web Client is enabled on the server and B is mapped as a Drive (let's call it Y for this discussion)

I want to move documents in A to B. Easy enough, right? Not so....

I first started by creating a batch file that issues a COPY \A \Y /Y at the command prompt. Viola! Worked Great!

I then moved that command to a SQL Agent job as a CMDExec statement (exact same statement) and attempted to run it.....CRASH! It found the files in A but then said "The system cannot find the path specified"

Ok, so I tried it in SSIS. CRASH! Checked the error log. Same thing...

So I then checked the account under which the SQl Agent was running (special domain account for all our SQL Servers). Thinking it might mater I changed it to run under my name (I'm in Domain admin). I also ensured I had permissions to the SPS 2007 library as well. (I did).

Ran again! CRASH! Same error....

So, I created a batch file , placed thec ommand in the batch file and ran that from the command prompt! Viola! Worked Great.

So, I was thinking of how ingenious I was as I pasted my C:RootCopy.bat into my SQL Agent job. With a big grin on my face I right clicked and picked "Start Job at step".......CRASH! Same error.

Does anyone have any ideas on this ???????????????

Thanks,
Stephen

Can I Use The Foreach Loop To Obtain The Sub Folder Names Within A Folder?

Sep 4, 2006

I have a set of folders with the following structure:

MainFolder

1999

SpreadsheetA.xls

SpreadsheetB.xls

SpreadsheetC.xls

2000

SpreadsheetA.xls

SpreadsheetB.xls

SpreadsheetC.xls

etc.

Is there a way that I can use the foreach loop container to loop the sub folders? My plan was to get the folder name and path into a variable, use this to build the connection string for each file in this folder, carry out the upload for that folder, then move onto the next folder and do the same thing, but I cannot see a way to do this.

Thanks,

How To Use An Folder As Data Source

May 15, 2008

Hi

I need to use .txt files as data source, those files are in same folder. Now I connect to them with ODBC, and allow client select which file they want to view by input the name of file as a parameter.
The problem is all those file are tabdelimited and the default of ODBC driver is CSV delimited. So once new file is added in the folder, we must refresh the ODBC otherwise the drive will deal all the data as one column.

Are there any better solution for this case?

Cleaning Up After Myself

Feb 18, 2007

How should I go about releasing any objects I've created? I've got a very complex CLR stored proc that creates a dataset, many sqlcommand objects, an adapter, etc, etc. It's used to evaluate high school transcripts for completion of the core subjects. It's a very complex SP that takes a single SSN as a parameter.
Right now it works as expected when I call it from a query window in SQL Mgmt Studio, I can stack 39 calls in a row like:

exec usp_Evaluate_eTranscript '011...'
exec usp_Evaluate_eTranscript '012...'
...
exec usp_Evaluate_eTranscript '039...'
And if I build a little test harness in VB.Net calling it in a populated dataset For ... Next loop, it works just fine for the 39 valid values I have.
But, when I build a cursor in a query window in MgmtStudio I get some strange behavior, that just doesn't really make sense. I'm getting a foreign key violation and I'm not even trying to insert any rows, just updating existing ones.
So, the only possible cause that I haven't eliminated yet is that some objects are still hanging around when the cursor tries to call the SP again.
It's declared:

<Microsoft.SqlServer.Server.SqlProcedure()> _
Public Shared Sub usp_Evaluate_eTranscript(ByVal SSN As String)
And exits with the standard End Sub.
Is there some way I can help the garbage collector along? Kick it into action? Maybe some

Set sqlcommand = Nothing or
sqlcommand.Dispose
dataset.Clear or
dataset.Dispose or somesuch thing?
I'm closing the context connection immediately after each time I use it (I have to so the next object can work).

Can't Restore To Custom Data Folder

Jun 3, 2008

I am having a problem with a client's MS SQL Server 2005. When doing a restore, SQL will not allow me to restore to the database mdf and ldf files outside the SQL root folder (C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server). I want the data and log files to be on a separate disk with plenty of disk space. When I created the database, SQL allowed me to create the mdf and ldf files in the E:Data SQL ServerData folder. But when I perform the restore SQL reverts to the C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLData folder. I am specifically redirecting the mdf and ldf files to the custom folder by clicking on the button (...) to change the folder.

I have tried creating a new SQL Server instance and uninstalling and reinstalling SQL Server to no avail.

How can I force the restore task to restore my database to the custom data folder location?

Thanks

The bcp command is called from a step in scheduled job in SQL 2005 (T-SQL) similar to:

SET@chvCommand =
'bcp [working_t] out D:EprojectsEdataCdata200701.dat'
+ ' -c -STPISQL -T'

EXECUTE master.dbo.xp_cmdshell @chvCommand, NO_OUTPUT

.... where Cdata is a compressed (zipped) folder.
The scheduled job seems to work without errors, but afterwards there is nothing in the compressed folder.
If Cdata is a regular folder everything works fine.

Cleaning Up Transaction File

Apr 16, 2002

I have been getting some strange results while trying to reduce the size of a transaction log file. The background is the database was fully backed up last night. There has been no activity since the backup. A transaction backup was performed 30 minuted prior to my testing. Here is what I tried:

1. dbcc shrinkdatabase ('mydb',1)
Resulted in no change to the size of the log file (Still 110meg)

2. Right clicked on the database in Enterprise Manager and selected Shrink Database. I selected the log file to shrink and it shrunk to 29meg.

3. Tried dbcc shrinkdatabase ('mydb',1) again and no change.

4. Issued backup log mydb with truncate_only and
dbcc shrinkdatabase ('mydb',1) and the size shrunk to 2 meg.

Am I doing something wrong? I thought that after a full backup and backing up the log file, the out of date log records would be able to be shrunk out.

also, why does the Enterprise Manager shrink work differently from the dbcc command?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

Cleaning Up Hardcode Sections

Jan 5, 2005

Hey,

Does anyone know of a neat and easy way to modify this section of hardcode:

SELECT CASE dbo.requestsbyyeartemp.themonth when '1' then 'January' when '2' then 'Febuary' when '3' then 'March'
when '4' then 'April' when '5' then 'May' when '6' then 'June' when '7' then 'July' when '8' then 'August'
when '9' then 'September' when '10' then 'October' when '11' then 'November' when '12' then 'December' end as 'themonth', etc...

Requestsbyyeartemp is a table where the numbers corresponding to the months are stored. This statement is used to make a new table where the months are stored with the proper names and not numbers.

I would sooner not have any hardcode at all if there is a simple way to do it.

Thanks
