Need To Install Service Pack On Client?
Jan 4, 2001We are running SQL Server 7.0 on an NT Server in an NT environment. We have Service Pack 2 installed on the server hosting the database. Do we need the service pack installed on the client machines? Even if they only need client connectivity? Also does anyone know what fixes sp3 is supposed to fix? We are running our production environment without any known problems using sp2 and really dont want to disrupt it with sp3 if its not needed. Thanks in advance.

When I do do Help | About in the Analysis Manager, I get
Version: 8.00.382
And doing the same in Enterprise Manager, I get:
Version: 8.0
Is this indicating that SP3 (which I think is the latest) has been installed or??

Client Network Utility Service Pack
Jan 13, 20042 Questions:
1) I am getting back into SQL more than before, in my new job. I need to find the service pack installed on the clients who have the Client Network Utility installed. I do not remember how to do this.
2) Running 'Select @@VERSION' on the server returns 7.00.1063 but does not indicate the service pack. Does this still mean sp4 has been installed?
I'm trying to ensure we'll all up to date since our dual 700 procs are acting eratic...jumps between 10 - 95% or so.
Server info:
NT Server SP6
SQL 7.0
2GB Ram
2 procs @ 700Mhz
Roughly 80 network connections.
No other programs running on server except Antivirus.

Does Service Pack 2 affect client tools? In other words, if you have a client machine with just the tools installed (management studio, BIDS, etc) do I need to run the SP2 package on this client as well?

I cant see a way from the client to get a service pack on ssis itself. I'd like to be sure about a suggestion from one of your contributors before approaching our technical guys about their failure to install sp 2 of something.

but to my development server i didn't download sp2 yet. Ifs it safe to download the sp2 for sqlserver 2005 enterprise edition now??

Dec 15, 2005I'm running XP w/ SP2 and I tried to install just the client tools (management solution) from a SQL 05 Standard Edition. Don't have any kind of SQL sever or client tools installed (like older version or express). The install goes really quickly and installs successfully. When I try to go to Start - All Programs - SQL Server nothing shows up? It seems that nothing was installed. What am I doing wrong. Any ideas? All I'm trying to do is to connect to a SQL2005 server from a workstation with the new Management tool (the new version of Enterprise Manager). Thanks!

I have installed SQL 6.5 client tool on to my workstation. Since then, we have upgraded to SQL 7.0 on our server. I installed SQL 7.0 client tool to my workstation and have been using it. I want to remove SQL 6.5 client tool from my workstation and do not know how. There is no uninstall button in the SQL 6.5 folder nor this program exists in Add/Remove Program in COntrol Panel. Jun 15, 2006I am trying to migrate our processing from command line based scripts and foxpro to SQL so I need to run the SSIS packages using dtexec. I copied the dtexec file and a few dll's that are missing to our production servers but i cant execute the packages. I dont want to install the full client tools (particularly managment/business inteligence studio) on our production servers due to the overhead and limited system disk space.
Can somebody tell me what the minimum install would be so I would be able to run SSIS packages using the dtexec or dtexecui tools? I would also like to install some of the other command line client tools like osql etc.

May 12, 2004I am binding bunch of SQL object change t/sql code into one service pack and then distribute to around 1500 databases.
gradually, I feel I need to put the table/proc/trigger/field/datatype/data size.... all the changes into a kind of database so that could let me or other developers quickly pull out all the change info against a particular object, say table customer. It may have changed 15 times already, from enlarge customerName data size from 30 to 50, add a unique constraint to force the customerName uniquenss, add an index on companyPhone field, modify a delete trigger when an customer becomes inactive to append to a historyCustomer table before delete it....
Of course, the db should also include servicePack release date, each object release reason, approved by.....
At first, it sounds simple and not a big deal, but when I draw something and found the relationship between table--field--datatype--size--constraint is not so simple. Is there something even 'raw' available there already, so I might take a short cut and move on?
