How to convert cubes , which are generated by Analysis Services, to generate end user reports like pivot tables for excell, pdfs etc. by using Report server.
We are working on a business intelligence solution and are breaking our heads on something that is too critical for us to proceed any further and support our stance. Please help. The case is as follows.

Say there are two tables like the ones above.. We need to know if a report model can be built so that we can build reports where the details from the first table will be shown and when the user clicks on the Month (Say Jan) details for Jan Should be pulled from the second table, something like a drilldown would also be fine.
Now, with our understanding here makes us feel that it can't be done with a report model but is possible with Report Desinger. We need to know if it is possible to have such an implementation with a report model when a cube is built or not even with a cube. Any inputs, suggestion, explanations, references, code samples, etc.. etc.. would be of GREAT HELP.
I want to create reports in SSRS that use cube in SQL 2000, I don't know which type of connection that i have to use,
I tested it with Microsoft SQL Analysis Services, means I connect to my cube with this type , everything is ok in developpement (create MDX query , make reports...), but in production It gives me this error message (cannot connect to the datasource),
I am trying to report against a cube and I want the user to be able to choose the date for the report.
Now the cube dimension has been built against a calendar which contains values for the next 30 years(!) so when I create a parameterized report the list of dates is ridiculously huge.
I want to filter the dates out and show only the dates for which there is data. How do I filter out the list of dates for a parameter?
Hi, I am trying to filter data within my report by a date range (FromDate - ToDate), which is using a cube as a datasource.
My Issue: I have the filtering working ok but if i select a date which is outside the range of the data within my cube for example if i select the starting date for the range as 1/Jan/1965 but by data starts from 15/Jan/1965 then no data is returned.
Within the MDX query within the STRTOSET function i am using 'constrained' which is around the date parameter i.e. StartDate for Range.
My question is has anyone or is it possible to use date values outside of the range of the data within my cube and get a correct dataset returned. If so could you please explain how with an example.
I'm trying to create report with datasource as a cube. I'm able to connect to datasource to pull data with a single parameter. But, I'm unable to succeed in creating a cascading parameter. The following scenario: I have a dimension "Period" as Paremeter. The Period dimension is cascaded to year- quarter- month. So, I would like to create a cascading parameter for period as year - quarter - month.

I have tried searching the forums and cannot find anything really helpful. I have had one cube setup and a model generated before and all was workin, but i had to delete it and i recreated the SSAS cube from scratch.
My user account has admin rights on the cube and also on the servers.
Server is Windows 2003
Client is Windows XP.
Any one got anythoughts on this or how i can determine what is wrong.?
I have made a big mistake. I was suppose to make a report for SQL 2000 but I made it in 2005. Now the Reporting server does not take the report. Obviously, as suggested in other topic here that 2005 report wont work on 2000 server.
Is there any way of converting this report from 2005 to 2000 so that I dont have to redesign it again.
how do i hide an attributes member value in all the reports where my cube is exposed as data source. Example : Lets say i have dimension called Product. Product
Name column Key column Product A 0 Product B 1 Product C 2
Now i need to create mdx query which will fetch member values except 0 key column value so that member values except 0 Key would be loaded in the parameter list. What is the best query so that i will run in to any performance issues. Is there any cube level setting i can do so that i will be doing one time job ?
Can i use Key() function to compare something like Key([Product].[Product Name]) >0 in the mdx query ot would Except() function would help?

Our users use Report Builder as an ad-hoc report tool. Data sources for Report Builder come from Report Servers and Analysis Servers.
I have run into issues where a user will select a source for their report that is based on an AS cube. When they select an attribute (field) from a selected entity in the Report Builder Explorer and drop it on the canvas, all entities except the one the field was selected from disappear.
For example:
A cube has a fact table called "Annual Income" with dimension of employee and demographics. In Report Builder, the entities would be listed in the left hand Report Builder Explorer window as
Annual Income Employee Demographics
If I select attributes from Employee or Annual Income, as usual, you will see the related hierarchies of the remaining entities. However, if I select an attribute from Demographics, then the Annual Income and Employee entities just disappear and all I can see is the Demographics entity and its attributes.
Has anyone run into this and if so, any ideas? This is becoming extremely frustrating. I have deleted and rebuild cubes, individual dimensions, and everything else I can think of.
I have created a simple cube in BI Studio against an Oracle Relational Data Warehouse. In this cube I have created a perspective in which I have selected (included) only a small subset of measures and dimension. When I view this perspective on the Browse Tab of BI Studio, only the entities that were included in the perspective were available for report construction as was expected.
Next, I generated a model for this cube in Report Manager. Now here is the problem, I then opended the model in Report Builder and selected the same perspective from above, but all of the Entities in the cube were displayed including the fields I explicitely did not include in the perspective. I then looked at the .smdl file describing the Model and it looked like in the Perspective description section all of the cube's entities were included, even the ones that should not have been included. It seems as if the problem is ocurring durring the model generation. I also tried generating the model in Management Studio and it seems to be doing the same thing.
Any ideas on how to fix this? Could I be doing something wrong(probably)? I have to give a presentation soon and this is a big deal for the Project Stakeholders.
By the way, I am using the 180 Day Evaluation of Sql Server 2005 with SP2 CTP installed.
I am trying to add a calculated field / column in Report Builder when working with a Report Model built from anAnalysis Services Cube. I can create the calculated Field/Columns, but I get an error whenever I try to use it in a report.
Is there a way to create a report builder calculated column on report models built from a SSAS cube? Is this supported?

I create the parameters for a custom report after right click on a specific Cube and select Browse to arrive at a view where i can define dimensions and parameters as well as drag and drop measure to the report rows and columns. The left top File bottom only give me a Save Selection or Save ALL option. However, i'm not sure where it saves it to or if it saves the settings for this custom report at all.
I pull this report monthly and it's a pain to recreate all the parameters. How to save this template for future pulls or maybe even incorporate the pull into excel for monthly refresh instead?
I have an SSRS report that gets its data from an SSAS cube, and it essentially displays a list of students and absences. Everything works fine.
But the users only want to see the top N students with the highest absences. For example, today they want to see the top 100, but during summer vacation, they only want to see the top 5.
Is there a way to add this parameter to the SSRS report? So if I select "5" from the dropdown parameter, it will show the top 5 absences.
The query that I use to populate the report is something simple:

I'm trying to get empty cells from an OLAP cube to display in a report designed using the Report Builder. Of the three report types, only the Table report shows the empty cells. Is there any option/setting that I need to enable to get this to work for the Matrix or Chart reports? Something like the "Show Empty Cells" option that is available in the pivot table used by BI Dev Studio?
When creating a report using reporting Services with a cube as a datasource, visual studio 2005 hangs. I have applied SP1 to visual studio.net 2005 .
This is the query generated by query designer in reporting services. When I try to drag and drop another dimension to slice it by , visual studio hangs.

I am just starting out using CUBEMEMBER/CUBEVALUE formulas in excel linked into a sql olap db - using this method for some custom reports where pivot tables are not suitable. The time dimension values include Months, Quarters and Years and the CUBEMEMBER formulas like

I am receiving the following error when I run the report builder query. I am able to successfully select the dimensions and measures that I am intrested in but when I run the report I get the error message.

I am testing this against both Adventureworks standard and enterprise cubes. Additionality I saw a post in this forum http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=368962&SiteID=1 that seemed related but I am using reporting services in sharepoint integrated mode so I am having a hard time trying to troubleshoot this.
When I make a call to GetSchemaDataset with a restriction of a cube name with a space in the name of the cube the call fails. I have three differents sub-reports, each one inside a table object.
Each table has a property "page break-before" enable.
When I execute the view-report in HTML 4.0 format, the reports are executed with success, but when I export to PDF format, the property "page break-before" inserts a blank page at the end of each sub-report. How can I do to suppress the blank-pages when exporting to PDF format ??
I'm using this query to generate a report. When I preview the report I should be able to select values from parameter drop down list for the following fields. OfficerName OfficerId, BorrowerName frmMain( is access form type. wonder how do I get this as a parameter to my ssrs report. how do I make available data set for this one?. I can not see available data set for this one when i click drop down menu in report parameter box) Forms ToDate FromDate
But when I run the query I can see only date parameters. I can not see anyotehr parameters. I can add parameter and select fields like officerName, OfficerId etc. But it does not work when i preview it.
Actually one of the developers has created a stored proceedure for this report. He already created an Access report, What I really want to do is recreate it in SSRS or convert into SSRS. But in either way, this parameter thing does not work.

I've got a report that is using a cube as a data source and I can't get the report to show all the data. Only data at the lowest level of the cube is displayed. The problem is that most of the data I'm concerned with is at higher levels. There's no problem with the MDX. I get the correct results when I run the query.
I'm using a table to show the results. I've also tried a matrix, but I get the same results. I'm using SSRS 2005 and SSAS 2000.
Anyone have experience with this? Am I missing something simple?
