Covert Connection From Access To SQL

I've got to convert the following functions so it connects to the SQL server that uses this connection string: ("server=(local);database=BCA;Trusted_Connection=yes")
The code below works fine to an Access db. I know I've got to change all the Ole objects below to SQL objects to connect to SQL server. But try as I might, I'm still not getting them right. Can anyone help by showing me how to change the code? Please just take the code and substitute the SQL connection strings for the Access string. That way even I could understand it. Sigh.

but I don't know how to duplicate this in SQL.
HT Convert Datetime To Text On The Fly
Apr 24, 2007I want to merge data from two different tables that have the same column names but different datatypes.
Table one has a varchar field pubdate_full that includes a date formatted as text like this: '2005-04-15'.
Table two has a smalldatetime field called Hard_NYP and a varchar pubdate field that includes just the year (eg '2007').
I want to Select data in table two and return a pubdate_full field that has either the datepub or the Hard_due. If the Hard_due is not null or '1/1/1900 12:00:00 AM' then I want to fill pubdate_full with that value, otherwise fill it with the pubdate value.
This works in that regard:

CASE WHEN (Hard_due <> '1/1/1900 12:00:00 AM') AND
(Hard_due IS NOT NULL) THEN Hard_Due ELSE datepub END AS pubdate_full from inventory
The question is, how do I convert pubdate_full on the fly to be the same format and datatype as the Table one pubdate_full or vice versa in order to be able to merge the two tables?

I have created a DTS Packages to import data from our back office database, which uses DBF files. This works great, however the way in which the dates are stored in the DBFs are as follows: -
4th May 2006 = 05/04/A6 (The A was a desperate bid by the developers to get by the Y2K issues)
Now the data is in SQL, I have created a view for each table, which re-orders the date data so it is displayed as dd/mm/yyyy using the following syntax: -
substring([eff],4,2)+'/'+left([eff],2)+'/'+'200'+right ([eff],1) AS [Eff Date]
This now looks good, however we can not use this data in a query using the between start date and end date as it sees it as text.
How can I convert this data to Datetime?
I believe it can be done with a cast or convert command, however do not know the correct syntax nor know how to apply it to our date columns in each table/view.
Any suggestion will be gratefully received.

New to the forums here. I'm not a beginner with SQL, but nor am I a SQL developer - network engineer who knows some scripting and the fundamentals of DB design/administration. There's the background.
I have a database of client information where a date is keyed in and stored as text. Because this is entered by end-users, the way it's entered varies - 1/1/2001, 01/01/2001, etc. Most use "1/1/2001" (note the date is not the same for each record)
I have 4,000 records to update and I need to try to convert the text string to the correct date - changing 1/1/2005 to the same date in proper date/time format. My database uses datetime as an integer calculating the number of days from 12/30/1800. Today's date would be 75508. Time is separated into different fields.
I can do the work to update the text to a single format to make the conversion easier, but I am having trouble locating the proper way to write a convert function to do this. I've searched online (which is how I came here) and have searched the forums without luck.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!
Yyyymmdd Text Data Into A Datetime Field In SQL Server?

I have an Excel spreadsheet that contains 100,000 + rows of data. Two of the columns in the spreadsheet are date fields that are sent over in the yyyymmdd format (no separators such as "-" or "/"). I tried converting these fields into dates using the Data Conversion task in SSIS. This doesn't work as it appears that SSIS cannot map a string in the format of yyyymmdd to a valid date. In lieu of this, I have added a Script Component to my transformation which can take the string and convert it to a date value using some Substring() calls on the source yyyymmdd string.
A few questions for the group ...
1. Is this there a more efficient or "better" way of performing this transformation?
2. I can also use OLE DB Command task in my transformation and make a call that might do something like this: select convert(datetime, convert(varchar(10), [@yyyymmddValue])) but how would this perform related to the Script Component task? My guess is that this would be slower since the transformation would make a database call for every record.
3. Are there any plans for the SQL team to make these types of conversions easier to implement in the future? It seems to me that this is a pretty common scenario for integrating date data.

'31/08/2006 23:28:59'
I get the error "...datetime data type resulted in an out-of-range datetime value"
I've looked everywhere and I can't solve the problem. Please note, I first got this error from an asp.net page and in order to ensure that it wasn't some problem with culture settings I decided to run the query straight in Sql Query Anaylser. The results were the same. What else could it be?

Comparing A Real Datetime To A 'constructed' Datetime

where right(term,4) always returns a string which constitutes a 4 digit year eg '1999','2004',etc.
The SQL above returns
2004-04-20 00:00:00.000 Deposit ...
Which makes me think that it is able to successfully construct the datetime object inline. But then when I try and do:

select convert(datetime,'04-20-' + right(term,4)) as dt,
'Deposit' as type, a.* from

) where dt >= a.submit_date
I get the following error:
Syntax error converting datetime from character string.
Given that it executes the innermost SQL just fine and seems to convert the string to a datetime object, I don't see why subsequently trying to USE that datetime object for something (in this case comparison with submit_date which is a datetime in the table a) should screw it up. Help!!! Thanks...

When I try to test the format by using getDate instead of DateTime column I get right milliseconds.

In my VB .Net application , when I am trying to fire a SSRS report on my local machine . Its giving the error ".Client found response content type of 'text/html', but expected 'text/xml'."
The request failed with the error message:

Sep 7, 2007Hi, i'm trying to do a full text search on my site to add a weighting score to my results. I have the following database structure:
Documents: - DocumentID (int, PK) - Title (varchar) - Content (text) - CategoryID (int, FK)
Categories: - CategoryID (int, PK) - CategoryName (varchar)
I need to create a full text index which searches the Title, Content and CategoryName fields. I figured since i needed to search the CategoryName field i would create an indexed view. I tried to execute the following query:
CREATE VIEW vw_DocumentsWITH SCHEMABINDING ASSELECT dbo.Documents.DocumentID, dbo.Documents.Title, dbo.Documents.[Content], dbo.Documents.CategoryID, dbo.Categories.CategoryNameFROM dbo.Categories INNER JOIN dbo.Documents ON dbo.Categories.CategoryID = dbo.Documents.CategoryID

But this gave me the error:
Cannot create index on view 'dbname.dbo.vw_Documents'. It contains text, ntext, image or xml columns.
I tried converting the Content to a varchar(max) within my view but it still didn't like.
Appreciate if someone can tell me how this can be done as surely what i'm trying to do is not ground breaking.

I want to perform Full Text Search with SQL Server 2000. My documents (.doc, .xls, .txt, .pdf) are stored in a SQL Server field which is binary (the type of the column is image).
I would like to know, how you can extract pieces of text from the documents.
Example:
I have a ASPX page with codebehind in C# making the search in a table in SQL server that is full text indexed.
I make a search looking for the word "peace", than SQL server will take care about the search and return it to me the rows that match with that. But also I'd like to extract the 50 characters before and after where sql server found the word "peace" to show in the result page.
Does anyone has any idea how to work around it ?

Problems Importing Text Files With Double-quotes As Text Qualifier
Jul 14, 2006I have text data files from a third party and they use comma as field delimiters and enclose the text for each column in double-quotes. Not a problem for most of the data files until they start sending files where there is " within the column values. SSIS package fails with the error:
The column delimiter for column "Column 1" was not found.

Im a programmer for an university webportal which uses php and msssql.
When an user creates a new entry and his text is too long the entry is cut short and weird characters appear at the end of the entry.
For example:

How can I set the text limit to unlimited?
Could it be something else?
Is there a way of splitting an entry to several text fields automatically?
