Create Virtual Cube From Local Cubes?

Oct 22, 2005

I have a big problem to solve:
I use MsSqlServer 2000, Analysis service. I have cubes and virtual cubes. I have a dimension of consult, they have a hierarchy that change every month. for example: In june the consult "John" is in D11, in September he is on D14,...
Hierarchie: D10 -> D11, D12, D13 - > C1, C2..
For this reason when i want analysis The consult John in a year(12 months) my result is wrong. With this changes in the hierarchie my analysis become wrong!
I thought in the end of every month store the cube in a local cube, like a picture of every consult, with his sales e others measures. With this i can analysis the consult in a specific month rightly, but i need the anlysis in a year. And in a year i would have 12 local cubes, then i could acess them and do a right analysis. How could i access 12 local cubes? Can i create a virtual cube with this 12 local cubes? Is there another solution for this problem?

Thanks,

Cannot Create Named Instance Virtual Directory

Jun 8, 2007

We regularly deploy our product to client's sites and install a named instance of SQL Server 2005 and Reporting Services on their Windows Server. We use the instance name "lgs" during SQL setup and it automatically ensures we have a http://server/Reports$lgs and http://server/ReportServer$lgs to work with.

A recent deployment had some trouble with their OS and we have needed to reinstall the Reporting Services component of SQL. After reinstalling, the virtual directories for Reports$lgs and ReportServer$lgs are gone. I have used the Reporting Services Configuration tool to create new virtual directories but when I enter Reports$lgs or ReportServer$lgs as the names I get an error. The error says that the virtual directories cannot

be created due to illegal characters in the names.

How can I create the same virtual dirs that would have normally been created during initial installation?

Thanks,

- Jason

Create Database On A Virtual Drive (Created With Subst) Failed

May 26, 2007

When I try to add a (SQL Server 2005 Express Edition) database to my project (I'v tried a windows application and an ASP.NET application) in Visual Studio 2005 Professional Edition; It fails with an error like this :
"create database failed. some file names listed could not be created (...)"
but when I open the project from the real path It works.
Is this a bug? Is there any solution? (In many situations there is a need for working with virtual drives. There must be some work around ...)

Hello,I currently have Table1 and View1.View1 is a query from 2 or 3 tables that works fine on its own.However in my current query if I try to use it...something like...SELECT a.col1, a.col2, a.col3, b.col1, b.col2, b.col3FROM View1 a JOIN Table1 b on a.col1 = b.col1WHERE a.col2 <b.col2 OR a.col3 <b.col3It throws an error "Server: Msg 446, Level 16, State 9, Line 1 Cannotresolve collation conflict for not equal to operation."Clearly I need to use collation between Table1 and View1, But I dontknow where I need to use "COLLATE SQL_Latin1_General_CP850_CI_AI" andhow? this is the collation set on Table1.Thank you!Yas

Why Virtual Suscriber_db Value In Distribution.dbo.MSsubscriptions Table?

May 10, 2007

I'm using SQL Server 2005 version 9.0.3054.

In the distribution.dbo.MSsubscriptions table, the field subscriber_db has a value of "virtual".
This is only occurring for one of my transactional publications.
There are 2 rows with "virtual" and they have subscriber_id's of -1 and -2.
There is a third and last row for that transactional publication that points to the correct db.

What does "virtual" mean and why does it appear?

More info:

I have 3 transactional subscriptions. The first two were created via SMO. The third one, with the "virtual" subscriber_id, was originally created manually via SSMS. I then generated scripts from SSMS in order to recreate it again later. Those stands out from the other two with differences in these columns:

snapshot_seqno_flag

value is 0 rather than 1;

independent_agent

value is 1 rather than 0;

article_id

value is 3 for all three rows listed for the subscription in that table;

status

values for the three rows are 1,2,1 respectively. Whereas my other subscriptions have status 2.

agent_id

values for the three rows are each different (10,11,12) whereas the agent_id for each of the rows in the other two publications is consistently the same.

publisher_seqno
ss_cplt_seqno

are displayed as equal for each row whereas the values for those two fields for rows for the other 2 publications are not equal; The value formats are different too. Example:

0x000013340000125200C1 0x000013340000125200C1
0x000013340000125200C7 0x000013340000125200C7
0x000013340000127D0012 0x000013340000127D0012

instead of format like the following for the other 2 publications:

0x00002CB2000026370001
0x00002CAF0000022B000100000002

0x00002CB2000026370001
0x00002CAF0000022B000100000002

0x00002CB2000026370001
0x00002CAF0000022B000100000002

0x00002CB2000026370001
0x00002CAF0000022B000100000002

No other columns appear unusual.

Column Order/presentation In Virtual Table (result Set From Viewor UDF)

Sep 1, 2006

I was just messing around with some ad hoc views and table returningUDFs today so I could look at and print out data from a small tableand noticed something strange. If I stick my select statement into a View the columns are returned inthe order I specify in the SELECT, but if the same statement is in a UDF(so I can specify a parameter), the columns are not returned in theorder specified in statement.I know that relations don't have a specified column order, but it was myunderstanding that a SELECT statement could be used to define how youwant your data presented. Views seem to respect the order specified inthe SELECT, but functions don't.What am I missing? Is there some way to force the order of the columnsreturned from a SELECT?View:CREATE VIEW dbo.View1ASSELECT Ident, Text, Type, ParentStmt, ForStmt, IfStmt, ChildStmt,ThenStmt, ElseStmt, NextStmtFROM dbo.tblStmtWHERE (Ident LIKE '4.2.%')Column order from this view:Ident, Text, Type, ParentStmt, ForStmt, IfStmt, ChildStmt, ThenStmt,ElseStmt, NextStmtFunction:ALTER FUNCTION dbo.Function1(@SearchPrm varchar(255))RETURNS TABLEASRETURN ( SELECT Ident, Text, Type, ParentStmt, ForStmt, IfStmt,ChildStmt, ThenStmt, ElseStmt, NextStmtFROM dbo.tblStmtWHERE (Ident LIKE @SearchPrm) )Column order from this function:Type, Text, ElseStmt, NextStmt, IfStmt, ChildStmt, ThenStmt, Ident,ParentStmt, ForStmtTable:(I know that this table isn't entirely normalized, but it serves mypurposes to have a matrix instead of a fully normalized relation):CREATE TABLE dbo.tblStmt (StmtID INT IDENTITY(1,1) CONSTRAINT PK_Stmt PRIMARY KEY,Ident VARCHAR(255),Text TEXT,ErrorText TEXT,Type INT,ParentStmt VARCHAR(255),ChildStmt VARCHAR(255),IfStmt VARCHAR(255),ForStmt VARCHAR(255),ThenStmt VARCHAR(255),ElseStmt VARCHAR(255),NextStmt VARCHAR(255),FullName VARCHAR(255),LocalName VARCHAR(255),Method INT)INSERT INTO tblStmt Ident, Text, Type, ParentStmt, NextStmtVALUES('4.2.1', 'LineNumberOfResp := EMPTY' 64, '4.2', '4.2.2')INSERT INTO tblStmt Ident, Text, Type, ParentStmt, ChildStmt, ForStmt,NextStmtVALUES('4.2.2', 'FOR K:= 1 TO 2', 128, '4.2', '4.2.3','4.2.7')INSERT INTO tblStmt Ident, Text, Type ParentStmt, ChildStmt, ForStmt,NextStmtVALUES('4.2.3', 'Person[K].KEEP', 16, '4.2', '4.2.3.1', '4.2.2', '4.2.4')INSERT INTO tblStmt Ident, Text, Type, ParentStmt, NextStmtVALUES('4.2.3.1' 'AuxInterviewerName := DOSENV', 64, '4.2.3', '4.2.3.2')

SQL Server Under A Virtual Machine

Aug 17, 2007

I really need some help. This is what I'm trying to do: first of all, i have a PC running Vista. Now on that PC, i have a virtual machine using VMWare Workstation 6, which has Win XP with SP2 installed on it. On the virtual machine, i have Visual Studio 2005 and SQL Server 2005 Express Edition with SP2; now, the thing is, i have a program in C#, which is supposed to connect to a network, but since I'm running on just one PC which is not connected to a network, i instead connect to 127.0.0.1 via port 1433. Now here's where my problems start. At first, i could not connect because i kept receiving an error which said "An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provedier: TCP provider, error: 0 - No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.)". A friend of my mine helped, so i did the following: i went into SQL Server Surface Area Configuration (configuration for localhost) , changed the remote connections to allow for both local and remote, using both TCP/IP and named pipes, restarted the database engine, started the SQL Server Browser; then i went to administrator tools, Data Sources (ODBC), and from System DSN tried to add an SQL Server. I gave it a name, and on the server textbox i tried typing "localhost", but doing so, i could not get past the next screen, (i did specify the port as 1433) where i have to chose between win nt and sql server authentication, and neither would work (even though i know the sa password and can log on to SQL Management Studio using that password). Then i tried copying the server name from the management studio, as the server when trying to add the system DSN. That seems to have worked, and i finished ading the SQL Server to the System DSN, using the database which i wanted. But after all these steps, i still get the exact same error as before - "An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server.
When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the
fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote
connections. (provedier: TCP provider, error: 0 - No connection could
be made because the target machine actively refused it.)".If someone can please help - i've tried everything i can think of - i can access the internet from the virtual machine, i even tried disabling the firewall, but no luck. Is it because of the virtual machine? If so, can anyone suggest a solution? I actually doubt it, because i've even tried to install it on my pc, not the virtual machine, so on vista - and also installed SP1 for VS 2005 and SP1 for Vista, but still the same thing. Sorry for making this post so long, but if anyone can help, i'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

SQL Server For Real Time

Apr 12, 2007

Hi,

We currently have a propriety in memory DB that is used to store the latest transactions in the system and we have a service that copies the data to a SQL Server every couple of seconds - For historical reporting purpose.

We would like to move into a more standard DB as our real time DB, since we have scalability and availability issues. We taught about using SQL Server since this is the DB we know, but I'm not sure it's built to handle real time data.

Does someone has any experience in using SQL Server for "Real Time" applications?

Does someone has any experience in storing the data files on RAM?

Does MS has a solution similar to Oracle's TimesTen, which is their real time DB?

Thanks,

Avi G..

HELP! New Virtual Server In Existing Cluster

Mar 6, 2004

I have a 2 part question about adding a new 'named' Virtual Server to an existing Clustered SQL Server 2000 install.

I have a 2 node MSCS Cluster (WIN2K advanced Server sp4) with a default SQL Server instance. This has been in production and working fine. I created a new Cluster resource and reran SQL Server 2000 ENT setup and added a second Virtual SQL Server (named instance). After many problems, finally got the second Server installed. Now I have 2 SQL Server instances in the Cluster - from what I understand, you can have up to 16, each seperate installs with seperate Cluster resources.
Thus the problem:

For the Second Instance, I have specific instructions from the Applications vendor on how to install SQL Server to work with their APP. I need install SQL Server WITHOUT the Full Text Search component and WITH a specific Server Collation (Binary order for use with the 850 Multilingual character set). (I have done this same setup on standalone SQL Server installations for this APP and they have gone smooth).

When I installed the new Virtual 'named' instance in my Cluster, I Could NOT 'DESELECT' Full Text Search when I choose Custom install.. it does not appear as an option???

Also, I chose the "Binary order for use with the 850 Multilingual character set" during the installation, but that is not the Server Collation that is installed...

I have already installed SP3 for SQL Server against the Virtual Server on this Cluster, as well as a HotFix... and Now I'm thinking I need to rerun the SQL Server installation, uninstall the second server and reinstall to see if I can fix the 'Collation problem' .. but I'm not sure if this is the right course of action.

Does anyone know why I cannot 'deselect' Full text search component at install, and any ideas why it did not install with the SQL Server Collation that I specified at install????

Why is SQL Server called 'Server' ? I understand it is a lot more capable and robust than Access but where does 'server' come into it.
I currently use ASP and Access for dynamic websites but it is time to move up a notch.
Do I just buy SQL Server, make a database, upload it to the same place as before and hey presto?
can I run lots of websites (on different domains and servers) from databases created with my single license standard edition?
Thanks
