How To Define Configure Info While Deploying On Remote Server?
Mar 19, 2008
I use MSSQL Server to store the configure info and create deploymentutility to deploy the package on remote server,
If the configure info could be created automatically while deploying?
or I have to create the Table on remote server to record the configure info in manully?
Thanks a lot

I already asked this question at the MSDN forums, but I'm asking it here because I got conflicting answers.
I want to configure my server to allow remote connections. For some unknown reason, I'm unable to do this with the Surface Configuration Tool. My understanding is that I can accomplish this using the sp_configure stored procedure. Is this correct? If so, can someone please give me an example of the correct syntax? BTW, I'm running SQL Server 2005 on winxp pro sp2.
Thanks in advance.

Hi there! I've been trying for several days now to configure SQL Server 2005 to allow remote connections, apparently, with no luck.
I always have this error message: Microsoft SQL Native Client: An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections.
I've followed the instructions at this link -> http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=914277&SD=tech, but I have been having the same problems.
I've already adjusted my firewall settings.
What should I do?
Please help me...

Sorry for the newbie question, but....
I have developed a website on my local development machine. When I create the connections string VS automatically creates a path to my local hard drive inside the string.
Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename="C:Documents and SettingsMikeMy DocumentsVisual Studio 2005WebSitesPostAlertzApp_DataPADatabase.mdf";Integrated Security=True;Connect Timeout=30;User Instance=True
However, when I deploy this website to a remote server, SQLExpress tries to attach to the file using the wrong path. How do I fix this?
Your patience is appreciated...

Hello there,
I just deployed a new ASP.NET 2.0 website on a remote server http://www.alrazem.com/. and when i want to log on, or when any connection to the database happens!! the following error ocurs.
Server Error in '/' Application.
An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified)
Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code. Exception Details: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified)Anyways, I searched the new. and i found this link: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;914277... I followed the instructions and changed the Surface Area Configuration for Services and Connections to Local and remote connections. and Applied both protocols. Then redeployed the application. but the error still ocurs.
I didn't restart my machine after changing the SQL to remote. but i did the website from scratch again. and created a new connectionstring and database!!!
Any help? Thanks!

Ok. Here is what I need to do: several computers on the intranet need to use a client program to access data from the server (a desktop)
Here is what is going on:
1. I am using Visual Studio 2005 c#.net 2.0
2. Sql Server Express 2005
3. I don't have IIS set up
4. The database is being shared from the c drive on the server (not sophisticated at all, but this is a one man operation!)
Questions:
1. Is IIS an absolute must to make this happen?
2. If not, a user pointed out that I can't use UNF to access the database. How do I set up the connection string to access the db on the server?
This is my basic connection string (local)
connectionString="Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=C:MonzaDBMonzaDB.mdf;Integrated Security=True;Connect Timeout=30;User Instance=True;Asynchronous Processing=true"
Thanks for any help on this subject. I know basically nothing about NETWORK programming and database administration!

Hello. I have SQLEXPRESS 2005 installed on my laptop running Windows XP Home Edition with SP2. I have an application that can connect to the local instance with no problem. The other day, I tried to configure SQLEXPRESS 2005 for a remote connection from my desktop. To date, I have been unable to figure out how to do this.
I have followed the instructions posted at various locations on the internet, but to no avail. While I can configure SQLEXPRESS 2005 to allow TCP/IP connections, I have been unable to restart the server.
Here is the pertinent snippet from the error log:
<time> Server A self-generated certificate was successfully loaded for encryption.
<time> Server Error: 26024, Severity: 16, State: 1.
2006-08-14 21:02:27.18 Server Server failed to listen on 'any' <ipv4> 0. Error: 0x277a. To proceed, notify your system administrator.

<time> Server TDSSNIClient initialization failed with error 0x277a, status code 0xa.
<time> Server Error: 17182, Severity: 16, State: 1.
<time> Server TDSSNIClient initialization failed with error 0x277a, status code 0x1.
<time> Server Error: 17826, Severity: 18, State: 3.
<time> Server Could not start the network library because of an internal error in the network library. To determine the cause, review the errors immediately preceding this one in the error log.
<time> Server Error: 17120, Severity: 16, State: 1.
<time> Server SQL Server could not spawn FRunCM thread. Check the SQL Server error log and the Windows event logs for information about possible related problems.
I have a feeling this problem is due to the way my system is configured, not necessarily how my SQLEXPRESS 2005 is configured. My laptop and desktop are connected via a wireless router, and both machines are running Norton Anti-Virus 2006. I've added sqlserver.exe and sqlbrowser.exe to the exceptions list for the Worm protection on the laptop, i.e., the server machine. There's not a setting at the router that would prevent the server from re-starting, is there?
Any help is GREATLY appreciated!
Matt

Hi,
We are using SQL-Server (2005) for the first time and have developed an app that uses 2 dozen tables and a bunch of SP, triggers, etc.
How do we get our entities to our client site without a lot of copying and pasting? How about the data we want to upload for lookup tables - how would we get the data there?
Moreover, how do we sync stored procedures with the live database as we make changes during development?
Thanks,
Mark

Hello! I hope that I have posted in the right spot.
We are looking for advise. I know that there is no right or wrong answer. "It depends."
We currently have a server with the OS as Windows Server 2003 SP2 and SQL Server 2000 SP3. This Server has 6 physical drives; only 3 of these physical drives are being used. These 3 physical drives are 1 container with Raid 5. This 1 container is divided into 3 logical drives.
We would like to fill the other 3 physical drive slots and create another container. We were thinking of making this Raid 1.
I should put in my disclaimer that Raid 10 is out of the question and so is SAN.
Is Raid 1 the best choice? This is my first question.
Next is how should we split up the files among the containers.
For example, OS, log and swap file on container 1 with Raid 1 and datafiles on container 2 with Raid 5?
What are most people doing? Is there a standard? Can people provide examples of what they are doing or provide suggestions?

I want to be able to see when records have been added to a table. The issue is we have a DTS job scheduled to run every night. The developer who wrote it password protected it and doesn't work here anymore. I want to add a step to this series of DTS jobs and want to run it just prior to his job. Is there a way to see when the records are being added or when this job is being run? Thanks again, you guys are the best.

Hi Well this is my first post on this forum, in fact I have not even used SQL Server yet!
My question is.... I have been asked to produce an application which will be a VB6 application with an SQL Server database behind it. I would like to be able to put the application along with the database on to a CD and run them directly from the CD once it is distributed. So the question I guess is can this be done with SQL Server i.e. can a table be exported in a format which will allow it to be queried in a standalone fashion? Maybe I have not explained myself properly but I welcome any questions which will help clarify my problem.
Thanks Red

Guys,
Let me first give you a little bit of background...
One of my goals for this year is to migrate all DTS packages to SSIS, those DTS packages are used across the company by different groups/users.
Since I'm still not that familiar with SSIS and like many here, was well used to the enterprise manager view (all DTS packages on 1 single place), I'm unsure on how to structure my SSIS packages in a way that I could break it down by group let's say.
The way that I'm doing right now is: I'm creating a solution for each group and creating the SSIS packages (.dtsx) relative to that group inside each solution, that's pretty easy. Now, the next thing that I'll have to figure out (and hope you guys can help) is how to deploy them structured this way and how to handle these packages to my end users. Basically, how do I handle "Group A" all of their SSIS packages? Will they have to open the package in debug mode on VS every time they need to execute a package?
Thoughts on this?

Hi all,
I'm having a problem configuring one of my SQL servers
as a distributor. I've done it successfully on another
server, so I know that it's nothing procedural and there
must be an issue with the way the server is set up.
When I click 'finish' on the Configure Publication and
Distribution Wizard, I get the following error message:
Enterprise Manager could not configure 'ABEL' as the
distributor for 'ABEL'.
Error 20017: Cannot add the remote distributor at this time.
Make sure that the local server is configured as a Distribution
Publisher at the Distributor.
Can anyone point me in the right direction? I'm fairly new
to SQL Server, so feel free to explain things in a
condescending manner. ;-)
