2) How to replace the renamed or replaced table name inside the code of Stored Procedures that references it ?
I'm looking for a way to track usage of SPs. I haven't found any TSQL tool that is already tracking that information. Long ago another DBA added an exec to the end of some SPs to log the usage to a table.
If there is a function already tracking this I'd like to know.
If not, I want to tack an exec line to the end of all the SPs but I don't want to do it by adding it 1600 times manually. Is there any trick in the scripting process I can do to make this easier?

Have sql 2005 express installed.
Running a database for a DotNet Nuke site
Opened Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express.
Navigated to CASPORTALDatabasesDotNetNukeProgrammabilityStored Proceduresdbo.AddUser
Right clicked dbo.AddUser and selected "modify"
This allowed me to paste the additional code into the right hand window/pane, however when I try and save this it wants to save it a seperate file /query. Is there something I don't understand?
am I not able to edit the original stored procedure?
I have a user on my database that has the following base permissions :
public
db_datareader
I need to give this user permission to edit a single stored procedure. I have tried using the following command :
GRANT ALL ON stored_procedure_name TO username
Which executes successfully, but the user still cannot edit the stored procedure.
If I give the user db_ddladmin permission they can edit all the user stored procedures, but for security reasons I would prefer to be able to this this at procedure level rather than a global permission on all user procs.
Does anybody know how I can do this?
EDIT : This is on SQL 2000
Hello All,I tried to set the access permissions for debugging stored procedure by reading the articlehttp://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/w1bhybwz(VS.80).aspxandhttp://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms164014.aspxI have tried to add the role to sysaminas follows1)SELECT * FROM INFORMATION_SCHEMA.ROUTINES WHERE ROUTINE_NAME = 'sp_sdidebug'(to find the sp)Error:--The stored procedure not found2)sp_addsrvrolemember 'Developmentswati.jain', 'sysadmin' though this is executed successfuly . Error is still persisting
Cannot debug stored procedures because the SQL Server database is not setup correctly or user does not have permission to execute master.sp_sdidebug.
I have a MDS entity with 6 columns, I need to lock 3 columns out of those from editing. How to do this ?

View 11 Replies View RelatedHi,
This Might be a really simple thing, however we have just installed SQL server 2005 on a new server, and are having difficulties with the set up of the Store Procedures. Every time we try to modify an existing stored procedure it attempts to save it as an SQL file, unlike in 2000 where it saved it as part of the database itself.
Thank you in advance for any help on this matter
Hi,
I'm from Argentina. I'm not an expert at all in SQL, I know very little about it. I've read in MSDN Library that in order to edit a stored procedure I must right-click the procedure to modify, and then click Design.
I'm using SQL Server Management Studio (not Express) and I don't see any "design" option. I do see a "modify" option. I clicked there and modified just a number I wanted to. Once modified I clicked on the X button to shut the file hoping the system would ask me if I wanted to save the changes made. When I clicked "yes" the file saved into "my documents > sql management studio > proyects".
I checked the original Store Procedure file inside "Programmability > Stored Procedures" and obviously it wasn't altered. I have now a file called "SQLQuery31" in "my documents > sql management studio > proyects" that seems to have the modification made.
Why do I have it there (inside My Documents) instead of modifying the original one? What must I do to get that stored procedure modified?
Thanks from Argentina !!
I'm using the ADO command object to call a stored procedure in SQL Server from Access 2000.
Set rst = cmd.execute
I receive the correct data back but I can't edit the recordset or addnew.
Is this possible????
Thanks
Which tool is used to maintain packages stored in the MSDB. Do you have to export them as file based to edit them?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am trying to follow an exercise for debugging a stored procedure in the .net IDE. I have had success in adding a connection to the application, until I get the point of where I should set a BreakPoint in the stored procedure "Ten Most Expensive Products" which belongs to the Northwind database. When I open Sever Explorer -->Data Connections- ->WI0001.NorthWind.dbo-->Stored Procedures and Right-click the procedure, the context menu does not give me an edit item to select to open this SP in the editor. Nor can I double-click on the stored procedure to open it either.

Using SQL 2005, SP2. All of a sudden, whenever I create any stored procedures in the master database, they get created as system stored procedures. Doesn't matter what I name them, and what they do.
For example, even this simple little guy:
CREATE PROCEDURE BOB
AS
PRINT 'BOB'
GO
Gets created as a system stored procedure.
Any ideas what would cause that and/or how to fix it?
Thanks,
Jason
During a unit test, I was surprised to find a data access error that traces back to a particular master stored procedures missing execute permissions for the dbo. I wonder if there's somewhere a sample script that globally grants execute permision to stored procedures. Better still can the permission granting be automated each time a new stored procedure is created?.Thanks much.
View 3 Replies View RelatedHow do I search for and print all stored procedure names in a particular database? I can use the following query to search and print out all table names in a database. I just need to figure out how to modify the code below to search for stored procedure names. Can anyone help me out?
SELECT TABLE_SCHEMA + '.' + TABLE_NAME
FROM INFORMATION_SCHEMA.TABLES
WHERE TABLE_TYPE = 'BASE TABLE'
Seems like I'm stealing all the threads here, : But I need to learn :) I have a StoredProcedure that needs to return values that other StoredProcedures return.Rather than have my DataAccess layer access the DB multiple times, I would like to call One stored Procedure, and have that stored procedure call the others to get the information I need. I think this way would be more efficient than accessing the DB multiple times. One of my SP is:SELECT I.ItemDetailID, I.ItemDetailStatusID, I.ItemDetailTypeID, I.Archived, I.Expired, I.ExpireDate, I.Deleted, S.Name AS 'StatusName', S.ItemDetailStatusID, S.InProgress as 'StatusInProgress', S.Color AS 'StatusColor',T.[Name] AS 'TypeName', T.Prefix, T.Name AS 'ItemDetailTypeName', T.ItemDetailTypeID FROM [Item].ItemDetails I INNER JOIN Item.ItemDetailStatus S ON I.ItemDetailStatusID = S.ItemDetailStatusID INNER JOIN [Item].ItemDetailTypes T ON I.ItemDetailTypeID = T.ItemDetailTypeID However, I already have StoredProcedures that return the exact same data from the ItemDetailStatus table and ItemDetailTypes table.Would it be better to do it above, and have more code to change when a new column/field is added, or more checks, or do something like:(This is not propper SQL) SELECT I.ItemDetailID, I.ItemDetailStatusID, I.ItemDetailTypeID, I.Archived, I.Expired, I.ExpireDate, I.Deleted, EXEC [Item].ItemDetailStatusInfo I.ItemDetailStatusID, EXEC [Item].ItemDetailTypeInfo I.ItemDetailTypeID FROM [Item].ItemDetails IOr something like that... Any thoughts?

I have MSSQL 2005. On earlier versions of MSSQL saving a stored procedure wasn't a confusing action. However, every time I try to save my completed stored procedure (parsed successfully ) I'm prompted to save it as a query on the hard drive.
How do I cause the 'Save' action to add the new stored procedure to my database's list of stored procedures?
Thanks!
We recently upgraded to SQL Server 2005. We had several stored procedures in the master database and, rather than completely rewriting a lot of code, we just recreated these stored procedures in the new master database.
For some reason, some of these stored procedures are getting stored as "System Stored Procedures" rather than just as "Stored Procedures". Queries to sys.Objects and sys.Procedures shows that these procs are being saved with the is_ms_shipped field set to 1, even though they obviously were not shipped with the product.
I can't update the sys.Objects or sys.Procedures views in 2005.
What effect will this flag (is_ms_shipped = 1) have on my stored procedures?
Can I move these out of "System Stored Procedures" and into "Stored Procedures"?
Thanks!
Hello friends......How are you ? I want to ask you all that how can I do the following ?
I want to now that how many ways are there to do this ?
How can I call one or more stored procedures into perticular one Stored Proc ? in MS SQL Server 2000/05.
Hello
I'm start to work with SSIS.
We have a lot (many hundreds) of old (SQL Server2000) procedures on SQL 2005.
Most of the Stored Procedures ends with the following commands:
SET @SQLSTRING = 'SELECT * INTO ' + @OutputTableName + ' FROM #RESULTTABLE'
EXEC @RETVAL = sp_executeSQL @SQLSTRING
How can I use SSIS to move the complete #RESULTTABLE to Excel or to a Flat File? (e.g. as a *.csv -File)
I found a way but I think i'ts only a workaround:
1. Write the #Resulttable to DB (changed Prozedure)
2. create data flow task (ole DB Source - Data Conversion - Excel Destination)
Does anyone know a better way to transfer the #RESULTTABLE to Excel or Flat file?
Thanks for an early Answer

I need some clarification regarding the security inside of the master db.
I have a user stored procedure in master. I would like to be able to execute that stored procedure from an internal web app. Would I give execute permission on the stored procedure to the "public" or "guest" role? The web app would be using a userid/pw for an application database.
Also, is it a good idea to have user stored procedures inside of master? Could someone point me to where I can find a good article on master db best practices?
Thanks in advance.
Hi,We have a situation where we want to move our current databaseserver to a different hardware and rename the server. If we change the Physical server name, do we have to go thru the wholeprocess of changing it in sql server by running sp_dropserver,sp_addserver?Can we have an alias for the server name in DNS and can sql serverresolve the server name internally by going thru DNS?For eg: Our current database server name is FFSQL-PRD01. We have itregistered in EM as FFSQL-PRD01. Now we renamed the server toSTLSQL-PRD01, and added an entry in DNS for STLSQL-PRD01 with alias ofFFSQL-PRD01( the same old name as alias). After doing this when I goto EM and click on FFSQL-PRD01 would it give me an error? or can itresolve the server name by going to DNS.When you install SQl server the default instance has to be the physicalserver name, Why? Is the physical server name stored in Masterdatabase( SYSSERVERS table)? Thanks for your help.Geetha
View 2 Replies View RelatedAlmost new to ssrs, accessing Oracle's stored procedures to feed the reports (no other choice), working on a master/detail report and badly stuck. This report needs to access 3 stored procedures one for master and two for small tables under it. The master's order ID is fed to the two stored procedures that may or may not pull any thing for certain order ID's
I am approaching it by creating 2 datasets and a page-long list, added desired text boxes and a table in the list, grouped the list on order ID and passing it to tables using default values etc. but keep getting the following message.
"The Group expression for the table €˜table1€™ refers to the field €˜ProductName€™. Report item expressions can only refer to fields within the current data set scope or, if inside an aggregate, the specified data set scope".
The list seems to be associated to one dataset only and any item in it cannot refer to anyother dataset, even if I try to access the table's dataset in its properties (The 'current data set scope' implies that).
(Not sure what will happen when I will try to add the second table and dataset with the same parameter name).
How should I approach this issue. I will appreciate help, if explained in steps but won't mind a good tip.
Thanks.
I have a SQL server instance being used as our data warehousing environment. The instance consists of several databases that I am snapshotting as part of our high availability strategy for data. I've created a stored procedure that takes the source database as an argument and that will create a new snapshot when a new one needs to be created and will also automatically remove the old snapshot. It also updates some synonym tables that point to the new snapshot but that might not be an important detail.
I would like to have the stored procedure stored some place global to all of the databases that I am routinely snapshotting, but that would mean putting it in the master database. Although having it there makes things significantly better in terms of usability, it seems like there's something wrong with putting any stored procedures in the master database. Am I wrong? Is it OK to put stored procedures there in situations like this?
Hi,
Do you know how to write stored procedures inside another stored procedure in MS SQL.
Create procedure spMyProc inputData varchar(50)
AS
----- some logical
procedure spMyProc inputInsideData varchar(10)
AS
--- some logical
--- go
-------
I am writing a set of store procedures (around 30), most of them require the same basic logic to get an ID, I was thinking to add this logic into an stored procedure.
The question is: Would calling an stored procedure from within an stored procedure affect performance? I mean, would it need to create a separate db connection? am I better off copying and pasting the logic into all the store procedures (in terms of performance)?
Thanks in advance
John
Hi all - I'm trying to optimized my stored procedures to be a bit easier to maintain, and am sure this is possible, not am very unclear on the syntax to doing this correctly. For example, I have a simple stored procedure that takes a string as a parameter, and returns its resolved index that corresponds to a record in my database. ie
exec dbo.DeriveStatusID 'Created'
returns an int value as 1
(performed by "SELECT statusID FROM statusList WHERE statusName= 'Created')
but I also have a second stored procedure that needs to make reference to this procedure first, in order to resolve an id - ie:
exec dbo.AddProduct_Insert 'widget1'
which currently performs:SET @statusID = (SELECT statusID FROM statusList WHERE statusName='Created')INSERT INTO Products (productname, statusID) VALUES (''widget1', @statusID)
I want to simply the insert to perform (in one sproc):
SET @statusID = EXEC deriveStatusID ('Created')INSERT INTO Products (productname, statusID) VALUES (''widget1', @statusID)
This works fine if I call this stored procedure in code first, then pass it to the second stored procedure, but NOT if it is reference in the second stored procedure directly (I end up with an empty value for @statusID in this example).
My actual "Insert" stored procedures are far more complicated, but I am working towards lightening the business logic in my application ( it shouldn't have to pre-vet the data prior to executing a valid insert).
Hopefully this makes some sense - it doesn't seem right to me that this is impossible, and am fairly sure I'm just missing some simple syntax - can anyone assist?
I am attempting to setup a Master-Details with GridView/DetailsView but I can't seem to find any information on using a stored procedure that requires parameters with the SqlDataSource control. SelectCommandType specifies that you are using a stored proc. SelectCommand specifies the name of the proc, but I haven't found any information on how to pass a parameter to the stored procedure. Is it even possible or do I have to forget about using the DetailsView control altogether?
