Mar 6, 2006I am working with a Detailsview. I am displaying information from a number of different tables, and so when I configure the datasource I have to specify a custom sql statement. I can get it to display the right columns, but I cannot seem to be able to use a where statement.
I am wanting to display the info in the Detailsview based on what is entered into a textbox, but I get an error when I try to add in the where statement. Can someone tell me what I am missing here?

I have a page (a search page) with sqldatasource, gridview and set of textboxes. The sqldatasource is using stored procedure with parameters. Using the visual wizard i'm associating the parameters with apropriate textboxes controls. It all works, like a charm.
The problem arises when I input some dangerous code in any textbox , like ' or % .
I'm having exception about unenclosed strings, generally info about the possibility of sql injection.
I thought that using ControlParameters, any Parameter in fact is sqlinjection safe, but apparently it isn't.
Does anyone know the right way of achieving my goal? It's very urgent.

I want to make a web application so our leads can go on the web and request to be put on the do not call list. problem is, if their number already exists, it gets a violation of primary key... Normal handling for this would be to do a select query based on user input, and if it exists in the database, tell them that, else do the insert query... Problem is, i cant seem to figure out how to bind the result of the select query to a textbox or label so i can compare the results to do that logic. Any ideas? This is in asp .net 2.0. Thanks! -Dan

Feb 17, 2008I have a sqlDatasource with 3 parameters based on the input of 3 text boxes on the page. The datasource returns sales details for a company based on a from and to date. Inserting TextBox Values To Database Using SqlDataSource.Insert Method
Oct 25, 2006Hi, it is few days I posted here my question, but received no answer. Maybe the problem is just my problem, maybe I put my question some strange way. OK, I try to put it again, more simply. I have few textboxes, their values I need to transport to database. I set SqlDataSource, parameters... and used SqlDataSource.Insert() method. I got NULL values in the database's record. So I tried find problem by using Microsoft's sample code from address http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.web.ui.webcontrols.sqldatasource.insert.aspx. After some changes I tried that code and everything went well, data were put into database. Next step was to separate code beside and structure of page to two separate files followed by new test. Good again, data were delivered to database. Next step: to use MasterPage, very simple, just with one ContentPlaceHolder. After this step the program stoped to deliver data to database and delivers only NULLs to new record. It is exactly the same problem which I have found in my application. I compared html code of two generated pages - with maserPage and without. I am using SQL Server Compact Edition 3.5 and C# .NET 2.0. It's worth noting that the web service does this outside of the program as well, so I don't think the problem is in the code that calls it. Fill Data Grid With Data From JOIN Query

I am supposed to be creating a very basic OMS, the teacher themselves have said they do not know how to do this (in previous years it has all be done via Access) but apparently I am a lucky one to be doing it in SQL this year.
So I have 2 tables for products in the system

One of the user requirements of the OMS is to fill a data grid with product name and the product details which I have the query for or rather I have created a view for, which is then queried from a stored procedure.

The problem I am having is then returning the data from this query into a data grid, I think the reason is because when I attached the stored procedure to a table and then call that procedure via the table adapter there is a mismatch of the schema - specifically the table it is attached to does not contain the column "productName".
I am thinking I need to create a temporary table to fill the data grid with - however, I am not sure how I would create a temporary table.
Is there something I am missing or not done correctly. As far as I can tell the queries work as when I preview them they produce the expected results.

I need to take all the rows with the same SKU number and fill in the missing data for the Price, Cost or the SalePrice, what ever may be missing. Arithmetic Overflow Error Converting Expression To Data Type Int When Using Fill From A SqlDataAdapter
Mar 7, 2007I thought I'd post this quick problem and answer, as I couldn't find the answer when searching for it.
I tried to call a stored procedure on SQL Server 2000 using the System.Data.SqlClient objects, and was not expecting any unusual issues. However when I came to call the Fill method I received the error "Arithmetic overflow error converting expression to data type int."
My first checks were the obvious ones of verifying that I'd provided all the correct datatypes and had no unexpected null values, but I found nothing out of order. The problem turns out to be a difference on the maximum values for integers between C# and SQL Server 2000. Previously having hit issues with SQL Server integers requiring Long Integer types in VB6, I was aware that these are 32-bit integers, so I was passing in Int32 variables. The problem was that Int32.MaxValue is not a valid integer for SQL Server. Seeing as I was providing an abitrary upper value for records-per-page (to fetch all in one page), I was simply able to change this to Int16.MaxValue and will hit no further problems as this is also well beyond any expected range for this parameter.
If anyone can name off the top of their heads what value should be provided as a maximum integer for SQL Server 2000, this might be a useful addition, but otherwise I hope this spares others some hunting if they also experience this problem.

Parameters Approach To Fill Report Header With Source Data Doesn't Work
Jan 19, 2007It's well known issue, that one can't use any dataset fields in a
report header/footer directly. One of the approach is to create
query-based parameter that basically equals
=First(Fields!@FieldName@.Value, "@DataSetName@") and use that
parameter value instead. But it doesn't work in my case!
My report displays some entity description and is parametrized with
EntityID param. Its header contains entity name that, according to the
approach, is queried from the data source through the EntityName
report parameter. There's important issue: the report is displayed in
ReportViewer control, that is embedded into my application and entity
ID parameter isn't ser by user in ReportViewer parameters area. Its
default value is changed by the application with SetReportParameters()
web method every time a user wants to view the report according to the
entity the user is exploring in the application. But after the report
has been rendered, its header always contains not actual (outdated)
entity name. Nevertheless, the report body contains actual data
(including entity name). If I alter entity ID parameter in ReportViewer
or in web-based Report Manager and refresh report, header displays
correct entity name.

Jun 17, 2008Hi I have a situation where i have a drop down list. The user selects a value from it and then a query behind the scenes is generated based on the value from the list. I want the result of the query to be diplayed in the textbox.I've checked a few examples but i don't really have a good understanding of how to generate this query and get the results to the textbox. I think you use the SQLDATASOURCE but still need some help...Can anyone help? Thanks.

I am working on a report, in this report a textbox is present, which is expected to show string. This string length is larger than what textbox can accommodate in single line. I want this textbox to show only right part of the string in case it can accommodate full string.
After using the right alignment I assumed it would do show, however it does not work like that. It always shows the left part of string in case, string is bigger than width of textbox.
Restriction from design:
1. Cannot increase the width of textbox.
2. Cannot use the Can Grow = true to show string in multiple lines.
Below is the example of my issue:
Say there is a string: "Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services".
because the textbox width is not sufficient to see full string, I want to "Reporting Service". Which is of same size which column can accommodate. So I used Right alignment in textbox. however text box shows "Microsoft SQL Server". So, is there a solution to see required text in the textbox.

Retriving Data From 2 Views By The Value In A Textbox
