How To Find Client's Hostname Using RDP From MSSQL Command.
Apr 7, 2008
Hi,
Can anyone help, how to find client's hostname using RDP from MSSQL command.
In simple words,
I am connecting to Remote desktop and using MSSQL server management studio in the remote desktop. And when I run select host_name(), it returns the RDP machine name. However, I wish to see my own computer name.
Thanks in advance.

i'm experiencing an extremely slow connection from a WXPP Sp2 client to a MSSQL2000 running on a W2k server. The client is running a VB6 application that connect with Windows authentication: every form requesting data opens with a long delay at the first launch; next attempts run normally fast.
In the same LAN there are some others identical clients, all running fine.
Every other network activity from that client is ok.
I need to install the 'MSSQL 2005 Express Client' on a computer that will be hosting a copy of an MSSQL 2005 Standard Edition database. Question: Should I install both the DataBase Services feature and the Client Components feature?
Anyone support a config where you have an unix/linux (AIX here) ODBC client connection to SQL Server database? I am looking for a simple, supportable configuration that does not require me to learn perl or instal a bunch of crap gnu shareware on enterprise class machines.

DELETE FROM Table1 WHERE id = @new_id
SET @table1Count=@@rowcount
SELECT @table1Count I'm then using an input box and linking it to the delete control parameter. Then on a button click event i'm running SqlDataSource1.Delete() which all works fine. But how do i get the @table1Count back into my aspx page? Thanks

Hi, This is the situation: There are around 300 jobs on the server. The server shutsdown abnormally and is not functional for let's say 2 hours. After the server is back on, I need to find what jobs had to start during the server was down. Is there a way to get this list? I tried to write an SQL script that tells me the needed information, but the job schedule sheme is so complex that it would take too much time in developing such SQL script. Maybe anybody has a better solution, or has already made a similar script? ThankYou.
I have a really simple query which i can't figure out why its not working. I have a table called 'ADMIN' which has a datetime field called 'date_edited'. Because the majority of records have never been edited, i have allowed null values and they are filled with 'NULL' in each record. How ever, when i try:
SELECT * FROM ADMIN WHERE date_edited = NULL
I get no records, but i can see and know i have hundreds! I know i'm doing somthing really stupid, but for life of me can't figure it out!
Hello, I'm trying to access the MSSQl 'remotey'. I open telnet and go to 127.0.0.1 1433 but can't. It seems I have done everything I can to fix it, but nothing solves the problem.
My firewall is disabled.
I have TCP/IP enabled in "SQL Server Configuration Manager" for both Client Protocol and protocols for MSSSQLSERVER (Shared Memory and NAmed Pipes are also both enabled). VIA is disabled.
In SQL Services, SQL Server Integration Services, Full Text Searc, SQL Server, SQL Server Analysis Services, and Server Browser are running. SQL Server Agent is disabled.
In Server Surface Area configuration, under Database Engine is running (automatic) and "Remote Connections" is enabled to TCP/IP and named pipes. Analysis Service has Local and Remote connections checked and is running (automatic). SQL Server agent is stopped.
Integration Services is running (Automatic) SQL Server Browser is running. (Automatic)
When I look in the error log, it shows...
Date 1/4/2007 3:21:45 AM Log SQL Server (Current - 1/4/2007 3:21:00 AM)
Source Server
Message Server is listening on [ 127.0.0.1 <ipv4> 1434].
Date 1/4/2007 3:21:45 AM Log SQL Server (Current - 1/4/2007 3:21:00 AM)

I have tried to telnet to port 1434 and 1433 but nothing happens. Does anyone know what else I need to be able to access that port??
Hello All,I am trying to create a DTS package.I have two tables tbl_A and tbl_B with similar data/rows but noprimary keys.tbl_A is master.I would like this package to query tbl_A and tbl_B and find1)all rows in tbl_A that are different in tbl_B, 2)all rows in tbl_Athat are not present in tbl_B and3)all rows in tbl_B that are not present in tbl_A, and then just showthose rows. Can this be done with a simple UNION?Perhaps this could produce a temp Table that can be dropped once theDTS package exists successfully. The 2nd part after all the above rows are retrieved is that I wouldlike to add an addional Column to the retrieved data called STATUSwhich has 3 possible values(letters) at the end of each row...M (modified) means that row exists in tbl_B but has 1 or moredifferent columnsA (add) means this row exists in tbl_A but not in tbl_BD (delete) means this row exists in tbl_B but not in tbl_AI'm hopping this DTS package would output a nice comma seperated TXTfile with only...1) rows from tbl_A that are different in tbl_B (STATUS M)2) rows from tbl_A that are not present in tbl_B (STATUS A)3) rows from tbl_B that are not present in tbl_A (STATUS D)Can a DTS package in MS SQL be used to perfom all of the above tasks?I would very much appreciate any help or any advise. Thanks in advance :-)
Thanks in advanace for taking the time to read this post. I am using MSSQL 2005 and have created a function that allows me to use regular expressions in my SQL queries. My question is I have a pattern buried in a field of misc data that I need to pull out just that pattern and discard the rest of the data. Here is the Regular Expression I am using select field1 from table1 where dbo.RegExMatch (field1,'[a-zA-Z]{4}[0-9]{6}[a-zA-Z]{2,4}')=1 This returns all values in the field that match the expression. What I want to do now is remove all data from the field on the left and right of the expression that does not match the expression. How would I accomplish this without reading through the 200k+ records and writing rules for every exception I run across? so I could have Gar b/a ge 'THE GOOD DATA' m/or1 ba4d da....ta. All I want to do is return 'THE GOOD DATA'
I am trying to install SQL Server Express - (the non ADV version) and get the following error.
"An installation package for the product Microsoft SQL Server Native Client cannot be found. Try the installation again using a valid copy of the installation package 'sqlncli_x64.msi'".
I have 64 bit Vista Ultimate running on an HP dv9000.
I am using the download from the bottom of the download page for SSX where it says 64 bit version.
Prior to this I got the. "64-bit ASP.net is registered. Required 32-bit ASP.NET to install Microsoft Reporting services 2005(32-bit)." messagd during the pre-install scan. From what I gather in the posts, the reporting issue is different from my installation package problem.
I have been trying to prove a point to friends about how far you can go with SSX but am having no luck installing it. This whole process took 1 hour in XP but I've been stymied for 2 days.
I would appreciate being pointed at the right downloads for what seems to be a simple install.
I apologize if this is not the correct forum for this posting. Looking at the descriptions, it appeared to be the best choice.
I am running Windows XP Pro SP2. I have installed the SQL Native Client for XP. However, when I try to add a new data source through ODBC Connection Manager, SQL Native Client is not listed as an option. I have followed this procedure on three other systems with no problems. What would be causing the SQL Native Client to not show up in the list of available ODBC data sources?
Problem: ======== A few records in a particular table are getting updated with incorrect values everyday somehow by some process. No one is manually changing these records. Every morning I query the database and fix these records. But somehow they again get set to the incorrect values.
So I want to figure out how this is happening. I'm thinking of creating an update trigger on that table. And whenever this update trigger is fired, check the modified record's id and if it is the problematic record, then get the hostname, username, processid which is doing this update.
Can someone give me ideas on how to get the hostname, username.
I want to capture hostname of the client computer making changes to a table on the server. I tried to use sysprocesses table, but the max(last_batch) column is giving the datetime and hostname of previously ran query. I need to find the hostname of the client who is making change at that instant of time.
I have problem with identitys when subscriptions uploads new inserted data, I need somehow create a partitions for each user. All user need exactly the same data (now 10 user but in future about 100 users).
In the database is 116 tables and still growing. Because this is a project i working with.
My system is a one Server, one publication and server is acting as its own distibutor, and multi users
I have really problems with conflicts plz somebody help
I'm having trouble with my Merge Replication setup in regards to changing the HostName property of the SqlCeReplication object. As we all know, if you modify the HostName value, you must then call the ReinitializeSubscription(true) method before calling Synchronize(). Unfortunately, this isn't working for me. Following this sequence of steps consistently results in error messages saying that I need to either call ReinitializeSubscription, or change my HostName back to it's original value. Has anyone ever experienced this problem?
Can someone explain me, if it's possible to set my SQL servername equal to the hostname of the server ? Of the moment, i have to log in with : WS003/sqlexpress But I want to log in like this : WS003

Using Currently Activity Detail, we went to the hostname that seemed to be the culprit, but the users had not accessed SQL Server in a few days. Where is SQL Server get the hostname from? We are on an NT4.0 network, using DHCP.
I'm trying to get into an installation of v.6.5 to use with anotherserver and I need the following information:Database hostnameDatabase nameDatabase usernaneDatabase passwordIs this information available anyplace within the installation files?I'm not asked for uname and pwd to get into the database. Thanks!
my SQL is running TCPIP and everytime I register the server from a client, I have to enter in the IP address. Can I use a hostname to map an IP address to a server name and then enter the server name to register the server?
