I receive the input file with some 100 columns and some 20k+ rows and I want to check the incoming input row is existed in the database or not based on 2 key columns. If the row is existed then I need to check all the columns (nearly 100 columns) values in input and the database are equal or not. If both are equal I need to treat them seperately if not there is a seperate logic. How Can I do that check for each row and for each column?
Basically the algorithm is like this, if the input file row is not existed in the database then treat that as new row else if the input row is existed in the database then check all the columns are equal or not. If all the columns are equal then treat that as existing row and do nothing else if some columns are not equal then treat this row seperately.
I found some thing to achieve the above thing.
1. Take the input row and check in the database.
2. If the row is not found in the database then treat it as new row.
3. If row is found in the database then
a) Take the source row and prepare a concatenated string for all the columns
b) Take the database row and prepare a concatenated string for all the columns
c) Find out the hash code for the 2 strings and then compare hash codes for equal.
The disadvantage of this is running a loop 2*m*n times where m is the number of rows and n is the number of columns. It should be done 2 times for input file row and database row.
Can anybody suggest a good method to do this?
What does the function "GetHashCode" for InputBuffer in method "Public Overrides Sub Input0_ProcessInputRow(ByVal Row As Input0Buffer)" will do?
Will it generates hash code based on all the columns values?
Pls clarify.

I've been given read access to a database and I also am looking at a GUI which draws data from the database. I am trying to map the results I see from the GUI to find the columns that the data is in... So.. big database, takes a long time to search the entire thing so I try to narrow it down by the following:

This essentially gives me a list of tables and columns whos data type is either text or varchar. Once I have this list... I then run the following on each:

So this runs through each table, looking to see if a value exists and if so, prints the result.
I am then left with a much much smaller list that I can manually look through and find the one I am looking to specifically find.
Is it possible to do this running only one query... where the output gives me all the columns in with a specific data type that contain a value I enter Anything else to make this more efficient
I am aware that there are data mining programs that could probably do this however I only have read access on the database which often causes a problem. The application I am using is "Aqua Data Studio" ....
I have two databases, database A and database B
Both have an identical table called "Codes" containing billing numbers and prices.
Database B is one I use for testing, and is out of date. Is there an easy way to load the values from Table_A.codes into Table_B.codes?
I know how to do an update from one table to another within the same database, but am clueless how to do it when the data reside in separate databases.

Our application has a table, which is populated via ADO.Net from C# with data originating from a C++ COM call. Today I encountered an entry that is C++ code for an undefined value: -1.#IND stored in the database. However, I could only discover what was stored in the table by Casting the value to a varchar -- simply selecting returned an error.
Is this expected behavior or a bug? It does not seem correct that SQL Server should store a value that cannot be displayed. In essence, either the value should not be allowed in the table because it violated the domain or SQL Server ought to have a way to display it with a Select *.
As fas as our application is concerned, we will be masking these values -- initially by ignoring them in the queries and eventually the loading program will convert to null.
Building the database I have come across different databases some that add a default value for every field and some that don't. I feel it is a hassle to add a default value, keep track if it is added.
I guess with a default value there would be no "NULL" values in the database but one could also make sure in the C# code that all the fields have a value when inputed and on the way out check for nulls.
What is the right way????

Ok what i am looking to do i cannot figure out.
What i want to do is have a simple script that when a user logs onto the website (via windows auth) to get there username somehow llike with
Request.ServerVariables("LOGON_USER")
that should display there username either "domain/name" or "username"
and then insert that into the UserLogs Table under my database with the date with the GETDATE() command..
But when i do this i cannot get the page to auto submit the values. Actually i cannot get anything to write to the DB unless i am doing it under the query builder.

I want that the user can chose several options from one ‘listbox’, and to do this, I have created two ‘listbox’, in the first one there are the options to select, and the second one is empty. Then, in order to select the options I want the user have select one or more options from the first ‘listbox’ and then click in a link to pass the options selected to the second ‘listbox’. Thus, the valid options selected will be the text and values in the second ‘listbox’. I have seen this system in some websites, and I think it is very clear.
Well, my question is, Is it possible to insert into the database all the values from a ‘listbox’ control? In my case from the second ‘listbox’ with all the values passed from the first one? If yes, in my database table I have to create one column (field) for every possible selected option?

Could any one tell me whats the best way to put encypted data into a table.i have a textfield that a single integer is entered into it. It is then encrypted using DES encrption algorithim.It converts the value to byte(Convert2ByteArray method) I pass the data to a stored procedure which converts it to char before inserting it into the table. when i checked the database all it entered was System.Byte[]. Does anyone know where im goin wrong?

I have a application that receives GPS lattitude and longitude values. I was originally using file base system where I would load all the points from the file into memory and do the calculations in the software but I now would like to use SQL Server Express.
I have created the tables:

I have created the tables and I have inserted GPS values into both tables.

I am trying to compare the current Lat/Lon (which are passed into the SQL fuction as two real datatype value) and I want to return all Table 2 locationId's where the current Lat/Lon are withing GPSPoints1-4 area.
gpspoint1, gpspoint2, gpspoint3, gpspoint4 reference an id from Table 1. I am not sure how I can do this?

Uses a lot of Trig and (for me) is quite complicated. This works very well and is very accurate. It also only uses a single table. I want to be able to now look for the current position within a boundary of 3 or more positions from Table 1 and this is where I am struggling?
Also, any suggestions on how I could do this better would be very much appreciated?

Hi, i m using vwd 2005 express and sql express. i have created following tables table_office,table_customer,table_order in my sql express. i also added one more table named table_final. In my webform i have 2 textbox and submit button plus(controls to take values for table_office,table_customer,table_order).so when user fills the form and clicks the button the data gets inserted into thier respected tables.similarly table_final gets populated with values in this way (id,name,address,table_office_id,table_customer_id,table_order_id) Now when displaying the output in the gridview. i combined values of all these tables together. its fine till here. Now what i want is i want to write a query to retrieve these values back into the webform . Here i want the values from all the tables back into the webform controls on a click of a button.so that i can modify it manually, make updation on it and finally show it into gridview. i hope i m able to make u understand. anyway can somebody help me with simple code(C#) and sql query to achieve this task.? thanks. jack.

Linq-To-Sql is not using the database-defined default values.
For example, suppose there exists a column, Table1.Column1, of type nvarchar(32) in the database.
Further suppose that Table1.Column1 has a default set as '', an empty string, set in the database itself.
Now suppose that one has a Linq-To-Sql class mapped to this table.
Note that if one then tries to insert, using the Linq class, and one does not provide a value for Table1.Column1, then it throws a RTE.
Is there a way around this other than writing a partial class and using the Extensibility methods?
Please advise.

I have a function that updates a table in sql server
If a field is left blank I want the database field set to Null. I use:sqlCmd.Parameter.Add("@somefield, someintvalue) to pass all my values to the database.
if someintvalue is null I want to set @somefield to dbnull
How can I do this? I get errors if I submit a null integer when there is a foreign key constraint. What is the best way to handle this? should I just make all parameters objects? so that I can set them to DBNull.Value?
Also on a side note, when you are populating fields from a datatable, is there a better way to set the values (i.e. of a textbox) than cheking for DBNull before assigning?
