How To Get User Name Of The Person Loged In To The System In SQL
Sep 27, 2007
Hi,
I have written a trigger for audit trail of one table in SQL and it has to get the user name who is doing the changes from the application(.net)
I have used the SQL user name and password while connecting the .net application to the database, and because of this whoever log in to the application and make changes on that table data, in the audit trail it still shows as the database user name.
I want to display the user name of the person logged in to the application
In the query i am using "System_user" for getting the user name. And the connection string in my application has a default uid and pswd.
I want to retain uid and pswd in the connection string but still want the query to get the name of the correct logged in user to the application.
after i login, i should be able to see the login person's profile, and edit it. anyone know how to do this?currently i am using grid view to display the profile, and created a store procedure in database ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[select_customer_by_login] -- Add the parameters for the stored procedure here(@Username nvarchar(50))AS SELECT C.CustomerName, C.TFN, C.Address, C.City, C.State, C.PostCode, C.Phone From dbo.Login L, dbo.Customer C Where L.CustomerID = C.CustomerID and L.UserID=@Username; @Username is the login account when people login. the error output is Procedure or Function 'select_customer_by_login' expects parameter '@Username', which was not supplied.
I am trying to grant solely the SELECT privilige to a particular user and to a particular database.I am using Sql server management studio express to do this and SQL Server 2005.
I have created a new login and set the server roles to public, then on the user mapping page, I have checked the box next to the table I wish the user to access and have selected the database membership role - public. Next, On the Table Properties, I have added the user on the Permissions Page and Selected "Select" under the grant column
When I click on effective permissions, the select command does not show and when I try to login with that user, the table does not display.
Hi all, Can someone explain it to me why I am getting the following error when I try to connect SQL server express with .NET 2.0?
Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code. We have been working on an application that will be using a forms-authenticated report server (RS2005) as a reporting back-end. Using the reporting services web service I have been able to assign permissions to objects in reporting services no problem. The issue is that each user needs to be added to the System User role to be able to use the report builder properly. I can't seem to find a way to do this programmatically. Any idea?
I need some advice with a msSQL 2005 databaseI'm creating a administration program in vb.net based on a new msSql db. This programme is involved with customeradmin, facturation, products, sales,...by example: Some employees don't has anything to do with product, so they don't need the rights to delete, create or edit it.The question is how can i resolve this problem, because i don't find any good solution. The rights are for every employee different, and can be changed by a admin panel. The admin can give a employee specific rights for every part of the programmeso how can we give a user certain rights when he is logging in into the program.thanks, BoardD :S ;)
i´m looking for TSQL-Code (7.0/2000) to identify, if a SQL Server Database ist a SystemDatabase or a UserDatabase. In the sysdatabases there is no information abount that.
I am quite newbie, really grateful for some help how to create a sql sentence in Reporting Services that would return the best sales person from each shop.. The following returns all the sales persons from each shop
So how to select the top sales person from each shop? SELECT TOP (10) shop.name, SUM(Cd.Price) AS Sales, Personal.Name AS Salesperson FROM Purchase INNER JOIN Personal ON Purchase.Salesperson_id = Personal.Personal_id RIGHT OUTER JOIN shop ON Personal.work_id = shop.shop_id FULL OUTER JOIN Cd ON Purchase.Cd_id = Cd.Cd_id GROUP BY Shop.Name, Personal.Name ORDER BY Sales DESC
Or something like this? But how in Rep.Services???
...LEFT OUTER JOIN ( SELECT P.work_id, P.Name, SUM(C.Price) AS TotalSale FROM @Personal P INNER JOIN @Purchase B ON B.Salesperson_id = P.Personal_id INNER JOIN @Cd C ON C.Cd_id = B.Cd_id GROUP BY P.Work_id, P.Name ) D ON D.Work_id = S.Shop_id
Hi all, Is there any easy way to not allow a user to see system views? I have set up 1 view for a login, and I have to use an ODBC connection to access it. However, the 3rd party application I'm using is apparently timing out because of the number of tables/views that are returned. TIA! - Mark
Hi, I can view the site fine on VS developlement sever, but not through IIS 7. Whenever i try to run it, i get this error: Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITY/SYSTEM'. The problem is that i am not using this user to access my database, so i don't know where it came from. I mapped this new user to my database and changed my web.config file accordingly to see if it works, but it did not. i have looked high and low for this, but i don't seem to find a solution that solved my problem. I am running Vista, IIS 7 and have forms security on my website. Any suggestions will be very much appreciated. E
Hello,My server is part of a W2K domain. What do you advice me as account torun my SQL*Server, service started with a domain user account or aslocal system ?I need advices from a security point of view.Thank's in advance
I am using SQL Server Express Edition 2005 as a backend database working with Visual Basic 2005.
I am using Vista and having two users to access to my computer. User-1 and User-2.
I created a database in User-1 and works fine Visual Basic 2005.
Now the problem is when i login to my computer system with User-2. I cannot able to access the database with encountering error like "User-1/SQLExpress". I know that i cannot able to access to database which was created in User-1.
Do you any solution to this problem. when i login with user-1 and user-2 it should able to access database.
We're developing an application request/packaging/rollout worflowapplication for our 50 site, 40,000 user company. There is a requesttable, an engineering table, a distribution table, etc. etc. But, thecompany has a designated "Application Owner" at each site, and eachperson who will use the application must also be listed in the workflowapplication. So, we need a lookup table for the owners and users:CREATE TABLE REQUEST (RQ_ID INTEGER NOT NULL,RQ_BY_ID INTEGER NOT NULL,RQ_FOR_ID INTEGER NOT NULL,ASSIGNED_ENGINEER_ID INTEGER NOT NULL,OTHER INFO...);CREATE TABLE APP_OWNERS (RQ_ID INTEGER NOT NULL,OWNER_ID INTEGER NOT NULL);CREATE TABLE APP_USERS (RQ_ID INTEGER NOT NULL,USER_ID INTEGER NOT NULL);There are many other tables, of course, some with single person IDfields and addititional lookup tables where there are multiple peopleinvolved like testers, package distributors, etc. I began to wonder, why not just a single table to cover ALL the people involved:CREATE TABLE RQ_WORKFLOW_PEOPLE (RQ_ID INTEGER NOT NULL,PERSON_ROLE VARCHAR(20) NOT NULL,PERSON_ID INTEGER NOT NULL);INSERT INTO RQ_WORKFLOW_PEOPLE (rq_id,person_role,person_id) values(123456,'RQ BY',314159),(123456,'RQ FOR',951413),(123456,'APP OWNER',159413),(123456,'APP OWNER',413159),(123456,'USER',594131),(123456,'USER',313459),.....The real question I have is how does one evaluate options like this? The good news, I think, is that where I simply must have crossreference tables because of multiple values (application owners, users, testers, etc.) I've reduced the number of those tables to one byspecifying a single table by role. Is that a good thing or a bad thing?I've also removed similar data from several other tables where only asingle column was needed in those tables, i.e. the requested by andrequested for fields, the assigned engineer, and several others. Thereis one and only one of each for each request but the type of data, thatis an employee ID is exactly the same, so does it make more "sense" tokeep the data with the request table or the engineering table orconsolidate all ID data in an ID table?Any thoughts on this woudl be appreciated.Randy
I am gonig into interview for a junior developer position. The role involves a lot of SQL based work. Training is on the job, and they know I am new to this, but they want to know what I can do with SQL server by wednesday, and obviosuly I stand a better chance if I can do a reasonable amount by then.I am assuming I can practise with offline databases, so I would like to do that. Also I was wondering if there were any simple example databases I can load up.
I have downloaded and installed the software, and would like to know how to connect and create a test database. There will be a small test in the interview and the questions are: 1. SQL Management and Data Extraction For this task you will need to be familiar with database tables, data types and constraints. There will be some administration work using SQL Management Studio along with some T-SQL queries. You will need to show use of the SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE and DELETE statements. If you do not have SQL Server, you can download the express edition for free at the following URL. http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/express/bb410791.aspx
2. XSLT For this task I will be asking you to produce some HTML output displaying the data from an XML file. The concept is similar to ASP.
3. Database Design You will be given a scenario for a company that requires some database software for the smooth running of their organisation. You will need to plan and design a data structure to accommodate these requirements. You will be allowed to spend as much time on this part of the test as you wish. Key information here is going to be database normalization.
These questions dont make a whole lot of sense to be at the moment, so would appreciate a breakdown in simpler terms.
This job will be a fantastic opportunity for me to get into development, and would appreaciate any help that you guys have to offer, thanks in advance.
In a transactions table, I need to get the record for the earliest transaction date for each person or account. So far I've been doing it in 2 steps (below). Is there an easier way to do this?
Thanks
Dannie
--------------------------
SELECT
Person_ID Earliest_Transaction_Date = MIN( Transaction_Date ) INTO
Earliest_Transaction_Dates FROM
All_Transactions GROUP BY
Person_ID
SELECT
b.* FROM
Earliest_Transaction_Dates a LEFT OUTER JOIN All_Transactions b WHERE
a.Person_ID = b.Person_ID and b.Transaction_Date = a.Earliest_Transaction_Date
I have a query that pulls information on people, courses they have taken, their score and so on. I have a date parameter setup so I can run it by year. Everything works ok on the query side, I get all the information I need on all the people and the courses they have taken. However, when I run the report, I do not get a separate page for each person and their relative information. The first page shows the first name and the rest of the 700 pages list all the courses and other information, with no break. How do I render the report so that I can get a separate page(s) for each person and their specific info? I can glady provide more info/code if need be.
I have about 8 databases to integrate. All of the databases have ssno, address city...ect. I need to create a DW table with one unique record for each actual person. In other words,
Joe Smith,123 Main St, Anytown, State,....+ssno
goes into the DW table and is the same person as Joseph S. Smith,123 Main Street... and any other versions.
Could someone point me to a reference or give me an outline of how to do this in and SSIS package?
Is fuzzy logic used here?
Do I need to deduplicate the feeder systems first??
It needs to handle a situation in, for example, the Bronx New York where there could be an apartment buiding with 7 people named Jose Sanchez .
I hope I've been clear, I'm a newbie at this DW stuff, but it's fascinating. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Does anyone know the logic that Enterprise Manager/SQL Server uses to distinguish system objects from user objects. I've looked through all the sysobjects in the database and there doesn't seem to be any unique logic for seperating all objects. User tables are easily distinguished from system tables (U/S) but thats not the case with stored procedures and views. I'm looking for suggestions... Thanks, Adam
I built a database by using a generated script from the originaldatabase. It built the System Store Procedures as User type. How do Ichange them back to System type?
when i browser the page on browser the following error dispaly " System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Login failed for user xxxx "sqlAdaptor , sqlconnection and dataSet are all fine. i can even preivew dataset, but i don't know while it doesn't display in browser.

i have just exported all objects from one sql server to another and no matter how many times i check the password i keep getting this same error.. I KNOW for a fact that the password and username are correct and that they have all of the correct permissions.. what am i doing wrong?
My question takes two parts; firstly, is the new table that I'm proposing going to handle the business logic I describe below, and secondly, if I put the new table in, how in hell do I use it?
Right; present schema attached.
The idea, which I hope is fairly clear from the schema, is that you send it a buch of parameters about the event, admission date, etc, and it will return all tickets matching those parameters. An example stored proc for this is below:
CREATE PROCEDURE [dbo].[getSingleTicketsByParameters] @eventIdINT, @standIdINT, @admissionDateIdINT, @bookingDateIdINT, @concessionIdINT, @bookingMinQuantityIdINT, @bookingMaxQuantityIdINT, @membershipIdINT AS SET NOCOUNT ON SELECT [tblTickets].[id], [tblTickets].[booking_date_id], [tblTickets].[booking_min_quantity_id], [tblTickets].[booking_max_quantity_id], [tblTickets].[ticket_concession_id], [tblTickets].[membership_id], [tblTickets].[event_id], [tblTickets].[stand_id], [tblTickets].[admission_date_id], [tblTickets].[price], [tblTickets].[availability], [tblTickets].[description], [tblTickets].[admin_description], [tblTickets].[ticket_open], [tblTickets].[ticket_live], [tblEvents].[event_name], [tblEvents].[event_open], [tblStands].[stand_name], [tblStands].[stand_open], [tblBookingDates].[booking_start_date], [tblBookingDates].[booking_end_date], [tblTicketConcessions].[concession_name], [tblBookingMinQuantities].[booking_quantity], [tblBookingMaxQuantities].[booking_quantity], [tblAdmissionDates].[description], [tblAdmissionDates].[admission_start_date], [tblAdmissionDates].[admission_end_date], [tblAdmissionDates].[date_open], [tblMemberships].[membership_name] FROM [tblTickets] LEFT JOIN [tblEvents] ON [tblEvents].[id] = [tblTickets].[event_id] LEFT JOIN [tblStands] ON [tblStands].[id] = [tblTickets].[stand_id] LEFT JOIN [tblBookingDates] ON [tblBookingDates].[id] = [tblTickets].[booking_date_id] LEFT JOIN [tblTicketConcessions] ON [tblTicketConcessions].[id] = [tblTickets].[ticket_concession_id] LEFT JOIN [tblBookingQuantities] AS tblBookingMinQuantities ON [tblBookingMinQuantities].[id] = [tblTickets].[booking_min_quantity_id] LEFT JOIN [tblBookingQuantities] AS tblBookingMaxQuantities ON [tblBookingMaxQuantities].[id] = [tblTickets].[booking_max_quantity_id] LEFT JOIN [tblAdmissionDates] ON [tblAdmissionDates].[id] = [tblTickets].[admission_date_id] LEFT JOIN [tblMemberships] ON [tblMemberships].[id] = [tblTickets].[membership_id] WHERE 1=1 AND ([tblEvents].[id]=@eventId OR @eventId=0) AND ([tblStands].[id]=@standId OR @standId=0) AND ([tblTicketConcessions].[id]=@concessionId OR @concessionId=0) AND ([tblAdmissionDates].[id]=@admissionDateId OR @admissionDateId=0) AND ([tblBookingDates].[id]=@bookingDateId OR @bookingDateId=0) AND ([tblBookingMinQuantities].[id]=@bookingMinQuantityId OR @bookingMinQuantityId=0) AND ([tblBookingMaxQuantities].[id]=@bookingMaxQuantityId OR @bookingMaxQuantityId=0) AND ([tblMemberships].[id]=@membershipId OR @membershipId=0) GO
So. It's all about to get horribly, horribly complex (well, it is to me) so take a deep breath.
Tickets are subject to quotas. However, quotas are subject to... well, at the moment they can be based on event, stand, admission date, concession, or any combination of these. They can also be based on an individual ticket. All quotas, however, are annual; they only apply to ticket purchases in the same year. For example: - you can't buy more than 4 tickets for date A, in stand B at event C, per year. - you can't buy more than 2 tickets for stand D per year. - you can't buy more than 4 of ticket number 123.
Now, I'm thinking that all I need to manage this is one table, and it's going to look a little like this:
tblQuotas id INT PK ticket_id INT FK event_id INT FK stand_id INT FK admission_date_id INT FK quota INT
So, if I put a record in there with an event, stand and admission date - and a quota - then I've met the first business rule that I described above. If I put in a record with just a stand id and a quota, then I've met the second sort. If I put in one with just a ticket id and a quota, then I've met the third.
Now we return to that big SQL statement above. The one that says "get me all eligible tickets that match these parameters". And it's got to get a lot bigger because I now need to not only join in tblQuotas, to see if any quotas apply to the ticket I've chosen (or to the event, stand, etc that make it up), but I've also got to join in tblBasket, and tblOrders, and tblUsers, to find out how much of any particular quota they've already used up in previous orders. Although that's only orders placed in the current year, mind. And of course I also now haveto pass the users ID in as a parameter so I can look up their order history.
Your head's hurting too, right?
So... this is where I've got to:
SELECT SUM(ticket_quantity) FROM [tblBasket] INNER JOIN [tblTickets] ON [tblBasket].[ticket_id] = [tblTickets].[id] INNER JOIN [tblOrders] ON [tblBasket].[order_id] = [tblOrders].[id] WHERE [tblTickets].[stand_id] = @standId AND [tblOrders].[user_id] = @userId AND ([tblOrders].[order_date] BETWEEN '2006/01/01' AND '2006/12/31')
What I want to do is incorporate that into the big SQL query up top, in such a way to make it only return tickets that not only match the ticket parameters but that also aren't linked to stands, admission dates or anything else, that the user has reached their quota on.
Oh, and I'm in a bit of a hurry so do try and get a move on won't you? ;)
But seriously - how do I put those two SQL querys together? Do I need one for each paramater that might have a quota attached, or is there a quicker way? All suggestions and advice, up to and including "get an easier job, dude", received gratefully :)
I'm trying to do some basic stuff in SQL Server 2005 that I could do in Oracle. I'm sure there's a way to do these things, I just don't know how. My most immediate question is this: Is there any easy way to run a SQL script and have it spool to HTML tables to a file? The 'results to text' from SSMS is not adequate for display purposes. I'm trying to display table/column descriptions. Beyond that, does anyone know of any good resources that provide an 'Oracle to SQL Server' matrix so I can help figure out how to do some of these things in SQL Server? Thanks in advance, Mike
Please help me in sorting out my Problem Providing me the solution . My Problem is I have a master table with Primary key on ID field (PatientID-(Patient-Table)) and it is an Identity field And My child table has the same ID field(PatientID-(PatientDetails-Table)) and it has the relationship set And the child table has its own Primary key of its own ID field(PatientdetailsID). What I want is as soon as enter row of data into the master table (Patient-Table)and click save on my front end application(Which is ASP.Net web application) I want to update Child Table’S (PatientDetails)ID field ( ie.,PaientID in the PatientDetailsTable) in the Child Table which relates the parent table ,by doing so I want to update the Primary key field (ie.,PatientDetailsID) & ForeignKey Field (PatientID)of the child table and to create row in the child table with two columns .(PatientID,&PatientDetailsID) What I want to achieve is in my ASP.net Application as soon as I enter Master table I want to Edit Child tables (about 15) one by one like a Wizard pages which will have The ID Field(PatientID) same in all my wizard pages . I want to know whether I can incorporate triggers if so in which table (is it in Patient or PatientDetails) and I will be grateful If anyone gives the Script to-do so.I am also providing my two table sripts. I am using SQL Server2005-Express Although Iam using ASP.net C# I am new and I will not be able to do this in my front end. Please help me wth the solution. thanks rameshs_2000
I am having a very strange and frustrating problem with moving an application from Development to Production. I have been working on this application on XP with VS2005 with SQL Express on my local machine. Throughout the development lifecycle I have moved it to the Server multiple times to test things and everything has been working fine until this last time. What I have done since the last time: Added some ASP.NET AJAX functionality Added some views that I am having to fill a dataset from the dataset to manipulate the data before presentation. Everything has worked fine without any issues on my local machine with my local database. I just made backups of the databases and restored them on the server and have moved all my project files up to the server. I then installed the ASP.NET AJAX Extensions 1.0 on my 2.0 server.
NOW - The Problem: The entire site works fine, I can read data from every table of every database, and I can also write data to all the databases. However, this one page has a GridView that I pull data from the database and fill a DataSet with the data. I then manipulate the data, adding some data from other databases and then present it to the browser. This is working fine on my local machine, but since pushing this to the server I get an error: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Login failed for user 'ext_access' Line 36: ad.Fill(ds, "CaskInfo")Line 37: Dim Table As DataTable = ds.Tables("CaskInfo")Line 38: Table.Columns.Add("Company", GetType(String)) I have checked the database and the SQL Server and the user listed above has the correct access to the database, which I would guess since everthing else is working fine. I use the same connection information throughout the app and it is stored in the web.config so I am certain nothing is wrong with my connection information. I access that information with the same code throughout the application as well so I know it is correct. I know this may not be the most trimmed piece of SQL code, but I figured I would post it incase there is something inefficient in my SQL that could be causing this. Here is my code leading up to the error. Dim conn As SqlConnection = CreateConnection2()Dim connectionString As String = conn.ConnectionString Dim myConnection As New SqlConnection(connectionString)Dim ad As New SqlDataAdapter("Select CaskID, CompanyID, SiteID, UnitIDVCC, UnitIDTSC, DATEPART(mm,DateLoaded)as Month, DATEPART(dd,DateLoaded)as Day, DATEPART(yyyy,DateLoaded)as Year, COCName, AmendmentName, HeatLoad, Dose, DryTime, Damaged, Debris FROM CaskInfo, COCInfo, AmendmentInfo WHERE CaskInfo.COC = COCInfo.COCID AND CaskInfo.Amendment = AmendmentInfo.AmendmentID", myConnection) Dim ds As New DataSet() ad.Fill(ds, "CaskInfo")
Using this connection code:Function CreateConnection2() As SqlConnection Dim conn2 As SqlConnection = New SqlConnectionconn2.ConnectionString = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings("MainWeb").ConnectionString conn2.Open()Return conn2 End Function And this is the line in the web.config: <add name="MainWeb" connectionString="Data Source=N2K3APPS;Initial Catalog=NUTUGData;Integrated Security=false;Pooling=False;User Id=ext_access;password=zzzzzzz" providerName=".NET Framework Data Provider for SQL Server"/> Thanks!
I have searched all the forums on this issue and tried the other options but nothing seems to work. I have an IIS server using asp.net to connect to a SQL database on a separate server which also happens to be a domain controller(i.e. no local accounts). I have tried changing the connection string, web.config, etc. but I still can't get connected. I believe the issue is with the SQL security but I'm not sure.
